People with learning difficulties are judged on their mental capacity not their mental age. Mental capacity is determined by a multitude of different factors regarding their ability process and retain information.
You're trying to dodge the issue. We may treat mentally disabled people in some ways similar to children, but not ALL ways because we recognize they AREN'T children. Like, we don't let disabled 30 year-old men attend normal grade/high school. No one chants "Disabled adults ARE children!" And no one chants "Trans women are like women in some ways!"
But those ways in which we don't treat them like adults are meaningless, they have to be under supervision, you cannot talk to them like you would another adult and you certainly cannot engage in sexual activity with them. We can't really send them to school but we do send to special centres with other children like them basically a kindergarten.

The MPH question reminds me of this time where I'm trying to explain alcohol % to my wife. Age denotes how long someone has been alive. We generally classify people based on that because that’s typically the case. However, just because you may not mentally align with that age doesn’t make you “trans age”

Man I'm used to agreeing with him, but Destiny's trans-age take is so fucking stupid. If someone has a mental disability that doesn't change anything about how old they are. Age doesn't indicate maturity necessarily either. There are not any standard changes that happen at exactly the same time for each person. We do assign responsibility based on how old you are and mentality handicapped people can be exempt but that doesn't change their age. We are saying that even though their age is 18, they still do not have the mental capacity. Like gender, destiny is placing too much meaning on age. If I’m trying to steelman destiny I’d probably say mental age // or maturity doesn’t exclusive fluctuate based on mental illness. The term IQ, stands for Intelligence Quotient, and initially used to be calculated as the ratio between a persons mental age and their chronological age. Obviously disabilities heavily impact IQ but there are fluctuations even amongst those without neurodevelopmental disorders. Basically a 200 iq meant you had double the ‘mental age’ and 10 iq meant you made 10 % of the progress that’s expected of your age. Obviously some people are born smarter and dumber, but there are cases of people achieving intellectual levels they weren’t born with/losing the ones they had (bolstering plasticity argument). The conclusive point is that, though it might be a shitty framework to view people, it explains how fundamental traits are shaped by both experience and genetics.
I worked in a centre for people with disabilities. We were made very clear that they are adults with equal rights and not to be treated like children. For example voting was always a big thing because they have a voice and deserve to have it expressed and represent their interests, some smoked etc. They are adults of varying abilities not children

The only difference is that we as a society don't have any research into the consequences of identifying as a different age - people tend to grow out of their discomfort with aging or it simply doesn't have a big importance in their lives as a whole. The same can't be said about gender, which has medically studied effects on mental health when they aren't granted access to gender affirming care and transitional medication/surgery.

In my mid 20s I was going through a period of stagnation and wasn’t going anywhere in life and it caused a disaffect between i how I felt about myself and my physical age, I was a college drop out job hopping between shitty retail spots still living with my parents. I was 26 but I felt like I was 21 or 22, it wasn’t until I went back to school and got on with my life did the age I felt more or less caught up with my physical age

Ben does believe it is a mental illness/disease and thinks that treatment is necessary; however, he doesn't think transition is the best treatment. @@xaece0174 Yes, if dysphoria exists in trans people because internally they are a different gender compared to their physical body, then some sort of transition towards the gender they are internally is required to alleviate or eliminate gender dysphoria in trans people.
Every psychologist and doctor has different opinion anyway about if it works or not. But evidence has shown this to be the best treatment overall. Some Cancer treatment can also not be the best treatment but is still necessary or treatment of choice over others at least. I think with the trans it’s also treatment of choice. Does Ben say what would be a better treatment for it? Because talk therapy etc. hasn’t been found to work well. Like therapy to accept the gender for example.

Destiny basically proves Shapiro's point here: Age identity actually is in many ways *more* valid than sex/gender identity because unlike sex, age is actually a spectrum and people do age at different rates, etc. So trans-ageism is actually more valid. Also, biological sex can be determined with at least the same degree of precision as we can with age. The idea of brain-body dualism is literally a religious concept that has nothing to do with science. The brain is part of the body, obviously. Destiny is correct to say that "age identity" would more accurately described as maturity, but the exact same thing is true of "gender identity": When a male says he feels like a female inside he's not saying he's *literally* a female. He's saying he's a feminine man. So the concept of "maturity" in this context is directly analogous to "masculinity" and "femininity" in the context of transgenderism. Using the analogy of age, the TRAs are basically arguing that a super immature 50-year-old man should be able to identify as, transition into, and be socially accepted as a 10-year-old boy, including-but-not-limited to playing children's sports and sharing spaces specifically designed for children.

Are adults to get plastic surgery, tatoos, organ donations, etc all *inherently* delusional now? We don't see those people as having a different age; we treat people of some age as if they don't have adequate mental faculties & people with some disabilities as if they don't have adequate mental faculties. Part of treating them like that is absolving them of some responsibilities & privileges. I give money to vendors & beggars both. 7:36 I feel like Destiny really is misconstruing the conservative argument here. Conservatives aren't saying that it's a disease, they're saying that it's a mental illness. Therefore, according to them, it should not be treated as a disease (like cancer might be treated), but it should be treated like we treat other mental illnesses. When someone has depression we don't tell them to off themselves, we try to solve it by helping them accept themselves, work on themselves, and by psychiatrically medicating them. When a schizophrenic is convinced they need to cut off their arm we help that person fight the mental illness, but when a transgendered person says they need to cut off their dick we do not see any issue with it. Now I don't personally agree with what I just wrote, but I feel like that is a much stronger argument, and one that conservatives actually use so I would much rather see that argument being responded to.

Gender identity is deeply rooted in a person's psychological, social, and biological makeup and identifying as a helicopter for example is a fantastical notion that is not grounded in reality. Demographics are fluid. they change from culture to culture, state to state. IE the parameters around "adult", "child", "minor", "senior" etc are inconsistent. 16 year old is a minor in the USA, in other countries they are adults. a 17 year old can give consent in ny state, in other states they cant. We need to address what the definition of "Trans" actually ties to and assign it a specific meaning. To me this means "Trans" refers to a "social construct." This implies that a given set of social attributes yields a person who is trans in our socially constructed reality (social rules, behaviors, gendered expressions, etc.). Words for socially constructed realities must tie to specific sets of social attributes. Words for objective things in reality must tie to specific attributes of reality (things that exist regardless of our perception - Age/Time, matter, etc.). Since social constructs don't equal objective reality, it doesn't make sense to compare Trans identity to age, as age/time is a concept of objective reality, not a social construct (the concepts and attributes are fundamentally different). So in my eyes, Ben's comparison isn't fair because he's trying to point to a specific biological reality (objective reality), but Trans refers to a specific set of social attributes (socially constructed reality). The only way Ben's comparison would make sense is if Trans identity is necessarily tied to an objective biological reality. Also, Trans (Social Attributes) doesn't equal Gender Dysphoria (Objective Reality), but yes, the two tend to be correlated. Similarly, Maturity (Social Attribute) doesn't equal Age (Objective Reality), even though they can be correlated as well. If someone says "Trans Age", I believe they're likely speaking to Maturity and other social attributes, not to their objective biological age (though the words "trans age" is a dumb set of words to describe the concept).

TLDR; The 60 year old man is age regressing, and this has nothing to do with being Trans. You can read why I feel that way below. This is just age regression?! This isn't trans aged, and people who claim that it's a subsection of the trans community are ignorant on age regression, and OSDD (Other specified dissociative disorder). My best friend are one of these people with OSDD, and is a little. She is currently an adult. When I am in care taker mode our relationship is strictly platonic. She acts like a child, and I have to take care of her as such ( I have no problem with this because it's the help she needs). Her little stages age can range from infant to toddler. She's never regressed to a higher age over 3. This is due to trauma that she holds, and can't process herself so she regresses to Cope. The 60 yr old just needs gender affirming care, therapy or a caretaker, and that's it. If them age regressing is taken as them being trans, then it's the people job to educate themselves on the matter. I could tell from the get go that the person in question is trans, but is also age regressing. Age regression occurs when someone reverts to a younger state of mind. This retreat may be only a few years younger than the person’s physical age. It could also be much younger, into early childhood or even infancy. People who practice age regression may begin showing juvenile behaviors like thumb-sucking or whining . Others may refuse to engage in adult conversations and handle issues they’re facing (Taking care of their environment, Paying bills, Basic responsibilities, familial issues). Age regression is sometimes used in psychology and hypnotherapy. It can also be used as a self-help tool, or something someone does to reduce stress. If people are jumping to collusion like Ben that this is some new threat from the trans community, when in reality, it's Ben changing the narrative due to his ignorance. He is willfully/blissfully using the ignorance of the 60 year old's and most people's lack of knowledge about age regression. The 60 year old doesn't know their regressing, Ben and others are not aware as well. Hopefully learning about this can help subside people fearmongering. Because the more you understand something. Someone claiming to be trans aged is due to the trans movement is not that fair fetch. Because you don't have anyone from the trans community speaking out on the matter, this Trans by proxy is enabled, which is why we have so many NB's, Trans Age, Trans Canine, and so on. We do assign responsibility based on how old you are and mentality handicapped people can be exempt but that doesn't change their age. If I’m trying to steelman destiny I’d probably say mental age // or maturity doesn’t exclusive fluctuate based on mental illness. The term IQ, stands for Intelligence Quotient, and initially used to be calculated as the ratio between a persons mental age and their chronological age. Obviously disabilities heavily impact IQ but there are fluctuations even amongst those without neurodevelopmental disorders. Basically a 200 iq meant you had double the ‘mental age’ and 10 iq meant you made 10 % of the progress that’s expected of your age. Obviously some people are born smarter and dumber, but there are cases of people achieving intellectual levels they weren’t born with/losing the ones they had (bolstering plasticity argument). The conclusive point is that, though it might be a shitty framework to view people, it explains how fundamental traits are shaped by both experience and genetics.

I worked in a centre for people with disabilities. We were made very clear that they are adults with equal rights and not to be treated like children. For example voting was always a big thing because they have a voice and deserve to have it expressed and represent their interests, some smoked etc. They are adults of varying abilities not children

Having a disconnect between your physical and mental age is perfectly valid. As Destiny stated, it's called maturity. The only difference is that we as a society don't have any research into the consequences of identifying as a different age - people tend to grow out of their discomfort with aging or it simply doesn't have a big importance in their lives as a whole. The same can't be said about gender, which has medically studied effects on mental health when they aren't granted access to gender affirming care and transitional medication/surgery.

And yet a couple minutes later he describes it as a “fact” of the matter. For somebody who is so consistent on so many things, his ignorance on this topic is ridiculous.

To be fair, Ben has talked about gender dysphoria being a real thing so i don't think he would disagree with Destiny on how trans people need healthcare. I think when he criticizes transgenderism he is just talking about the ideological aspect of it that the left has embraced. Cant help but feel as though you either didnt watch the full video or completely misunderstood what he was saying. To put it simply self identification of age is stupid and invalid however when we refer to trans ageism were not referring to ones physical age but more so their mental maturity and capabilities. For example someone with down syndrome may only have the maturity of an early teen or the iq of a child. In this country some people are subject to their rights being limited due to physical age “aka children” and we also limit rights to people with mental/emotional disabilities with some people being appointed guardians or institutionalizations. It’s the state that determines age based and mental faculty based discrimination what is allowed and whose rights should be limited on a case by case scenario. Every psychologist and doctor has different opinion anyway about if it works or not. But evidence has shown this to be the best treatment overall. Some Cancer treatment can also not be the best treatment but is still necessary or treatment of choice over others at least. I think with the trans it’s also treatment of choice. Does Ben say what would be a better treatment for it? Because talk therapy etc. hasn’t been found to work well. Like therapy to accept the gender for example.

Destiny basically proves Shapiro's point here: Age identity actually is in many ways *more* valid than sex/gender identity because unlike sex, age is actually a spectrum and people do age at different rates, etc. So trans-ageism is actually more valid.
Also, biological sex can be determined with at least the same degree of precision as we can with age. The idea of brain-body dualism is literally a religious concept that has nothing to do with science. The brain is part of the body, obviously.
Destiny is correct to say that "age identity" would more accurately described as maturity, but the exact same thing is true of "gender identity": When a male says he feels like a female inside he's not saying he's *literally* a female. He's saying he's a feminine man.
So the concept of "maturity" in this context is directly analogous to "masculinity" and "femininity" in the context of transgenderism.
Using the analogy of age, the TRAs are basically arguing that a super immature 50-year-old man should be able to identify as, transition into, and be socially accepted as a 10-year-old boy, including-but-not-limited to playing children's sports and sharing spaces specifically designed for children.

7:36 I feel like Destiny really is misconstruing the conservative argument here. Conservatives aren't saying that it's a disease, they're saying that it's a mental illness. Therefore, according to them, it should not be treated as a disease (like cancer might be treated), but it should be treated like we treat other mental illnesses. When someone has depression we don't tell them to off themselves, we try to solve it by helping them accept themselves, work on themselves, and by psychiatrically medicating them. When a schizophrenic is convinced they need to cut off their arm we help that person fight the mental illness, but when a transgendered person says they need to cut off their dick we do not see any issue with it.
Now I don't personally agree with what I just wrote, but I feel like that is a much stronger argument, and one that conservatives actually use so I would much rather see that argument being responded to.

Gender identity is deeply rooted in a person's psychological, social, and biological makeup and identifying as a helicopter for example is a fantastical notion that is not grounded in reality. Gender identity is also a well established concept that is recognized by the medical and scientific community, and it is supported by extensive research and evidence. identifying as an object or an having 7 legs for example is is not a genuine form of identity. It’s not supported by any scientific evidence, and it is not a recognized concept in the medical or psychological fields. Its a fantastical notion that does not align with the reality of human biology and psychology.

Assuming you mean brains being sexed differently than the rest of their body, no. Male brains and female brains are somewhat different, but we aren't sure how much of that is nature vs nurture because the brain is high in plasticity.

Demographics are fluid. they change from culture to culture, state to state. IE the parameters around "adult", "child", "minor", "senior" etc are inconsistent. 16 year old is a minor in the USA, in other countries they are adults. a 17 year old can give consent in ny state, in other states they cant. We need to address what the definition of "Trans" actually ties to and assign it a specific meaning. To me this means "Trans" refers to a "social construct." This implies that a given set of social attributes yields a person who is trans in our socially constructed reality (social rules, behaviors, gendered expressions, etc.). Words for socially constructed realities must tie to specific sets of social attributes. Words for objective things in reality must tie to specific attributes of reality (things that exist regardless of our perception - Age/Time, matter, etc.). Since social constructs don't equal objective reality, it doesn't make sense to compare Trans identity to age, as age/time is a concept of objective reality, not a social construct (the concepts and attributes are fundamentally different). So in my eyes, Ben's comparison isn't fair because he's trying to point to a specific biological reality (objective reality), but Trans refers to a specific set of social attributes (socially constructed reality). The only way Ben's comparison would make sense is if Trans identity is necessarily tied to an objective biological reality.
Also, Trans (Social Attributes) doesn't equal Gender Dysphoria (Objective Reality), but yes, the two tend to be correlated. Similarly, Maturity (Social Attribute) doesn't equal Age (Objective Reality), even though they can be correlated as well. If someone says "Trans Age", I believe they're likely speaking to Maturity and other social attributes, not to their objective biological age (though the words "trans age" is a dumb set of words to describe the concept).

Even if I grant "trans age is a thing", still.. nobody get upset if you refer to a special needs person as their BIOLOGICAL age. Nobody calls it violence to do so. Nobody suggests we give special needs people surgery to look like a 10 year old. Nobody is enforcing that we have to see them as a child. Treating two things similarly does not make those things the same. A special needs person has situations in which they are treated SIMILARLY to a child, but we don't say they are a child.

A male neurophysiology may be feminized, and a females neurophysiology may be masculinized in the womb, depending on the womb’s toxicity & their environment after birth.

When transwoman identify as women they’re not making a statement about their biology, they’re essentially making a request about how they wish to be treated. Someone claiming they’re 60 years old is not analogous, because they’re making a claim about how long they’ve been alive, not a request to be treated a certain way. But destiny’s right in that almost EVERYONE wishes to be treated in a way different to that commonly assumed to be appropriate to their age. Kids want to be treated as more mature than their years, older people often want to be seen and treated and often feel themselves ‘younger than their age’. That’s what’s analogous to transness imo.
The measuring height and weight thing is funny. There's a dude on RUclips named Erik kynevsky who goes to body building conventions, asks for their height and weight then pulls out a tape measurer and scale to measure them. Some of them get so pissed it's pretty funny

This is just age regression?! This isn't trans aged, and people who claim that it's a subsection of the trans community are ignorant on age regression, and OSDD (Other specified dissociative disorder). My best friend are one of these people with OSDD, and is a little. She is currently an adult. When I am in care taker mode our relationship is strictly platonic. She acts like a child, and I have to take care of her as such ( I have no problem with this because it's the help she needs). Her little stages age can range from infant to toddler. She's never regressed to a higher age over 3. This is due to trauma that she holds, and can't process herself so she regresses to Cope.
The 60 yr old just needs gender affirming care, therapy or a caretaker, and that's it. If them age regressing is taken as them being trans, then it's the people job to educate themselves on the matter. I could tell from the get go that the person in question is trans, but is also age regressing. Age regression occurs when someone reverts to a younger state of mind. This retreat may be only a few years younger than the person’s physical age. It could also be much younger, into early childhood or even infancy. People who practice age regression may begin showing juvenile behaviors like thumb-sucking or whining .
Others may refuse to engage in adult conversations and handle issues they’re facing (Taking care of their environment, Paying bills, Basic responsibilities, familial issues). Age regression is sometimes used in psychology and hypnotherapy. It can also be used as a self-help tool, or something someone does to reduce stress. If people are jumping to collusion like Ben that this is some new threat from the trans community, when in reality, it's Ben changing the narrative due to his ignorance. He is willfully/blissfully using the ignorance of the 60 year old's and most people's lack of knowledge about age regression. The 60 year old doesn't know their regressing, Ben and others are not aware as well. Hopefully learning about this can help subside people fearmongering.
Because the more you understand something. The less likely you are to speak misinformation on a subject. Since being trans is new, and all over the internet. Someone claiming to be trans aged is due to the trans movement is not that fair fetch. Similar to Munchausen by proxy, some people are so mentally ill that they take on the other symptoms, or illness relate their current mental health symptoms with the feeling of being trans. Because you don't have anyone from the trans community speaking out on the matter, this Trans by proxy is enabled, which is why we have so many NB's, Trans Age, Trans Canine, and so on. Trans and LGBT media are starting to surface more as we become more excepting of the movement.
So people claiming or thinking they are trans will occur more commonly. There are similarities through transitioning, and age regression that coincide (Felling of being another sex - Feeling of being another Age) which confuses people into coming into the conclusion that they are trans. If they don't have dysphoria they aren't trans simple as that. I just wish we'd stop taking the word of every person who claims to be trans, and act like it's the trans movements. And because these similarities overlap, many people come to the wrong conclusion that trans aged is it's own sub category of being Trans when in reality, what their experiencing in reality already has a name , Age Regression. Also duality exists, and the blatant disregards that duality exists hurts my soul, someone who is trans can also age regress, be gay, be a PDFile, and so on.

The point of that argument is that the arrangement has been going on for decades, it's obvious that republicans don't give a shit about most of the things they're virtue signaling about re "Disney shouldn't play by its own rules". They're assmad about Disney going against their "Cultural Norms", which is the start and end of their true principle based grievances. Yes there is a word for the sort of age that one acts as, yes, it's called maturity. There's also a word for the way people behave, and it may or may not exactly align with the stereotype of their sex, it's called their personality.
These are sciences that can only be understood empirically. Making claims about how easily measureable maturity/personality are is dumb. It’s not a mathematical 1 input for every 1 output system. Don’t act like it is.
