Nice additions to the locomotive fleet. The Athearn Soo Line SD40-2 has a couple extras besides the decoder. The first extra is an updated motor, and the second addition is a winterization hatch on the radiator fan. This feature is an add on to the locomotive. The Kato CSX SD80MAC is nice. The SD80MAC (5000 HP) was originally built for Conrail, but both CSX and NS acquired them through the Conrail split. Sadly, I believe all of the SD80MACs are off the roster of both CSX and NS. CSX and NS considered them odd balls which led to their demise. As far as the actual model, I had a pair of them in Conrail which I sold to a friend. They ran very well. If I ever want them back, I know who to call. The NS First Responders unit is a nice addition. I haven't ever seen it in person, but I do live near the NS Chicago Line. So, seeing this unit is very possible, I probably missed it going through town when it did pass through. As far as the Athearn frame with the funny truck side frames, they are intended to be used with Athearn trucks, but with a different frame such as a Rail Power Products frame and shell of a newer GE B series locomotive. Rail Power Products made shells and frames which used Athearn drive train parts to build your own custom locomotive. I suspect someone tried an old Athearn U boat frame four axle frame for their project which didn't work as seen in the video. Just change the side frames to the four axle ARR side frames from Athearn along with some U (insert number) B shell, and you will have a good working locomotive.
Great haul. I really like the SD80 CSX. I am not a big fan of sound myself, and prefer DCC without sound. So I think your loco is absolutely perfect! Nice going with your new trains.
The prices at your shows are so much lower than here in the Maritimes. For that awesome CSX unit, I think you'll find that the main lights and ditch lights are tied together because there is a plastic piece that fits in place within the shell that has the same LED running to little plastic leads that go to both the main light and both the ditch lights. This is common on Kato engines. To separate the ditch lights, you're going to need to turf that whole plastic setup and glue in your own LEDs. I spent nearly an entire weekend doing that on an Amtrak P42, and it turned out pretty decent. I have two more P42s to convert, so I'll use what I learned from the first one to make changes to the others when I do them.
Hi Dave, Proto 1000 did come out after Proto 2000, Proto 1000 used the same motors as Proto 2000 but had less detail and a lower price. The Dominion Atlantic was a subsidiary of Canadian Pacific that ran in Nova Scotia from Halifax to Liverpool, passenger service in the DAR ended with the 1990 Via Rail cuts. CP abandoned the DAR trackage west of Kentville after the Via cuts, the rest of the DAR was sold in 1993 to a short line operator. It is no longer operating. Only two RDC1s were ever painted for the DAR, the rest just ran in CP colours until they were all repainted into Via Rail colours.
The KATO SD80 has the light bars in them. I have the same one. I painted mine in the blue scheme. CSX got rid of their SD80's. I think some went to the Canadian Pacific. The Cotton Belt is a GP40. 3 large radiator fans. A GP38 has 2. Always good to have extra motors.
Nice little hall Dave! I have to admit that I am envious at all the train shows you have in Canada. You did mention that the Rio Grande orange hoppers needed some work, and yes, the plastic wheels have them rocking plus a hopping to the music, lol. I especially like that Dominion Atlantic and need one of my very own. Great buys and video, Jersey Bill
Those yellow box Atlas locomotives are wonderful runners. A bit growly, but they're built like tanks. Only downside is that they're a little hard to get into the guts of for maintenance. Also, congrats on the SD80MAC. As a Conrail fanboy, I make the recommendation that you find one in original "Quality" livery.
Somebody was super detailing a GE....those are either smokey valley or RailPower sideframes....my guess is that chassis was going to have a railpower B23-7 shell
29:00 SOO decoder, you might just need to know DCC address for the loco. Try the engine number as long address or factory reset decoder to get back to 3.
Regarding the loco with the bad trucks: I suspect that those aren't the original truck side frames. I think they were glued onto the side of the trucks too high. The side frame bearing boxes don't match the actual wheel axel hub height. They need to be lowered a bit.
More like the difference between Walthers Mainline and Proto. Life-Like originally started with Proto 2000 and later introduced Proto 1000 as a slightly less expensive alternative. Same mechanisms.
If I may ask, what are you using to video, record and edit your video. I am looking into starting my own content but regrettably am clueless as to where to begin. Any input will be appreciated. And I thank you for your content. You always have good vids and content.

I love dodge vipers 14:53
Very nice assortment.
Yes those Atlas locos back in the day before DCC were 80 plus US dollars

Now What you Need To do Now Is to Make A To Do List good Luck When Making That List.
A fantastic haul. I must remember "thou shalt not covet thy bud's Budds" "thou shalt not covet....." 🙂
Some great bargains and lovely to see the new marketing director 😂 cooper 👍uk
Fantastic additions mate can't wait see more 👍🏻

Thanks for clarifying that Greg.
ASAB- Atlanta & Saint Andrews Bay. Short line in the panhandle of Florida
Look at all this LOOT!
Yes, I was very naughty. Food is for whimps!
More great addeditions. A bit rough to see the odd trucks/bogeys on the one loco. Very sharp group of locos there, anyhow!
For the Atlas 7602, change one of the 6's to a 8. 6 is very close to an 8 already, just need to add a little white paint. Also amazing haul.
That Engine I Will have One Day or Another With My Collection Of Engines.
The one Athearn chassis has Smoky Valley FB2 truck frames. must have been used on a newer U-boat shell
OH NO😂😂😂😂😂an actual diesel I would have on my layout.....love that first response one lol

Need to use the off set up knuckle couplers on the GP40's
I think you need a better train room , expansion time , nice haul from the train show
You were right Dave. Bag #2 had even more goodies
When Dealers Have Awsome Deals Your Scarfing them Up.
I was excited to see this!
I have a brand new Cotten Belt never run, exact same.
Great video
🚄🙂
SD80MACs are a rare breed. Great haul on both booty bags.
The SD80 appears to be very similar to the SD90, but the nose is a little different
@@ScottRailsnot only that rear sandbox is different also they have 5,000 HP probably make that the most powerful diesel locomotive you have right now
Our Next show Isn’t Untill Feb.
You're leaning towards Canadian rolling stock but I don't remember seeing any bulkhead flats loaded with wrapped timber loads, a serious deficiency.
You are absolutely correct. I never see those at the trains shows and they're quite pricey new.

The Trainsanity Is Driving You crazy All good🤘.
SOO SD40-2 looks to have a Proto Power West motor. Hope it something easy to fix!
CSX SD 80 Sweet. You know what I'll be asking you to run lol.
Would be great to see a video of you “editing” car numbers.
If I remember correctly, the ST 80 Mac is an eight pin connecter
Old school atlas low gear
29:00 SOO decoder, you might just need to know DCC address for the loco. Try the engine number as long address or factory reset decoder to get back to 3.
That would be great if that is the only problem, but John (seller) told me he tried everything. Working on it tonight.
It's a SD 80mac
SP unit Is a GP40
It says GP38 on the box

Excellent. Thanks.
P1K is a less detailed/cheaper version then the P2K Like the difference between Walthers Mainline and train line models
Ok, but which one is older? I heard that the 2K represented the year, but the 1K came out after.
More like the difference between Walthers Mainline and Proto. Life-Like originally started with Proto 2000 and later introduced Proto 1000 as a slightly less expensive alternative. Same mechanisms.
Did you see any Accurail CP Rail boxcars when you bought the Soo boxcar?
I didn't notice, sorry.

Shame the GBW has tango trucks. Hard to back those cars up
So model it....remove the trucks plug the holes for kadee trucks and mount couplers....
When’s Your Next show?
October 20th, then October 27th, and pretty much every week after that.
Cool Beans Bancroft👍👍👍👍.
Those Kato handrails are fragile
Newbie here. Do you have a video showing how to lubricate a loco?
I have many videos. It depends on the type of loco. Some are easier than others to get into the gears. What are you working on?
@@ScottRails Sorry for the delayed response, had to figure out what I had. A Proto 2000 ALCO S1 switcher. Thanks!
