Making Simple Power Pick Ups For Old Locos And Passenger Coaches.
I just don't understand why you all don't find a connector for the lights then the body won't be in the way during repairs 😮
Have you found one?
Great cars! These assemble rather neatly with most any plastic cement, my current cement is Tamiya, but I've also used Testors and Tenax, among others.
I dont use DCC so dont know this, do DCC fitted engines seem to run smoother then DC fitted engines, next question, there always appears to be engine track noise with DC fitted engines, is this noise still there with DCC fitted engines?
From my limited experience, converting to dcc does not make anything smoother or quieter. In fact, cheap decoders can make the motor quite noisy.
Don't under sell your self
Nice work. FYI; Canadian rail does not use use flashing ditchlights.
Good job Dave, they look great 👍
@Scott Rails You definitely have great courage to drill holes of that small size for lighting with a dremel . I tried many times in the past and gaffed up projects. In the end I use those tiny "Thumb drills" sold by micro-mark and manually drill through, lol. (i use them for tapping holes for hand rails/grab irons too. Great job!!
Like the ditch light.think ill ad some to a few of my locos even if there only dc
Great idea, and if you add the right resistor they will come on without too much speed in the loco.
@@ScottRails wonder if i can find micro led 12v
@@user-vp7kh4ly1n These should work fine. amzn.to/4fmG1Gx
I saw a cool method of using a larger size shrink tube (unshrunk) as a conduit and glued to the underside of the hood to control lighting wires.
You need to beeswax your drill bits. That will melt before the plastic and give it some lube to help it work.
You are getting better and better at this decoder install thing. I do think I would have cleaned everything up on the old board and just used it as a platform for the new decoder and then did everything just as you did, but that's me crazy Jersey Bill, lol. A very polished video, Dave.
I thought about that bill, but one day I might need it, lol.
Can you give some info on how you mapped the functions for the ditch lights? Which CVs did you set? Or does that model of TCS controller come setup with those 2 functions as the defaults for it?
I used the Lighting quick preset option from the TCS instructions. CV 8 - 10
Great work Dave. Looks amazing with those flashing lights. 👍 Happy modelling
Great video
Nicely done !!!💡
Thanks Steve. You're package arrived by the way. Very awesome. Thank you.
That is nice ditch lights Also I do have three high horsepower locomotives my SD70MAC, SD80MAC, and ET44AC Which has in built Ditch lights. Interestedly enough remember you got UP SD70ACe. My dream locomotive was SD80MAC which I got my hands from July 5th when the mail came.
Very Nice !! Layout Looking good. I like the brightness on the ditch lights, I'd leave it alone. Thanks for the decoder tip, I am in process of modifying my 70+ dc fleet of locos. Overtime of course. Thanks- good video.
Actually, it is a AC4400 with high mounted ditch lights. Athearn just did all the shells the same way with low mounted ditch lights. I know you're not a proto modeler but good job anyways.
awww, and I thought I got it right this time. I should have consulted the bible you sent me, lol.
That is gorgeous!!!!
Scott, that is an awesome car. My dad has a 1949 Plymouth that I want to make a model off lol
The Deer looks nice up on mountain side
The garage area is where I would hangout!! All area's are just Capital. Thank you very much. Love them can easily get lost in the wonder. A Capital build on the Mountain that.
Could it have a split axle gear ! Anyway nice work😊
Excelente información. Muchas gracias, saludos desde Perú
Midland is also a Irving based trucking company in New Brunswick. Irving also runs two short lines, NB Southern Railroad and the Eastern Maine Railroad.
I found that Ontario Northland gp9 that you got on Amazon for like $65 and might pick one up for my Canada set train layout
Looks great, nothing wrong with that either about the people,,it’s the optics that matter,,thanks for sharing,,😊
It is good to see the GO train is a showstopper. Great running session and I'm sorry I missed it. Jersey Bill
Accurail are nice kits. Have many myself. Easy to assemble.
Absolutely nice. The levers you were referring to on the gondola are the coupler cut levers.- a very nice detail to have included. Also, the GP9M designation on the locomotive just means it represents a rebuilt GP9 with a low nose. From my huge store of more or less useless knowledge
I don't like people, and that's not because I live in Australia. The people are stationary / frozen in time like a photo. The trains are not they are living. If you could make the people move and walk around I would go for them.
I also use these “cheap” people in my passenger coaches. Although I have the 00 coaches fitted with the HO people
You should try it in 'N' scale lol
If you want heads at window height more major surgery is required .. cut at waist level.
You MONSTER!
@@ScottRails It is only plastic surgery.
@@maltnz Good one
Reading the title. Via rail is really that bad? /tongue in cheek
Dave, you are crossing off these projects one by one. Lights, passengers, and a video of it all. Top job, Jersey Bill
I'm fighting the Procrastination disease Bill.
@@ScottRails I've been retired for 4 years now, and procrastination is my constant companion so don't worry it will not kill you. LOL
Oh, and make sure the gear lash is proper. It will have much less grinding noise while powered up.
It's awesome to see where you were 3 months ago. Amazing what you have learned and the layout you have now. I have several Bowser models and I have replaced the motors with the ones we all get off Ali Express. It will make it much quieter and smoother. I would recommend getting some Nickle/silver wheels for the tender. The tender has a ton of room for DCC decoder. I love steam!
Just need some snow now
My biggest issue is finding interiors for Athearn or Rivarossi cars to put the little people in.
😂my daughter is good at gluing her fingers together also 😂
I have a bunch of these same figure sets. I just repainted some for variation. When it came to fitting them, i just cut away the flooring between the seats, leaving the center isle and seats intact. Great job!
The 1/100 version fits a bit better, but these seats are way smaller than anything where I put passengers in. These are basically cheap clones of Noch and Preiser figures. To make them fit better scrape the cast marks from the back and bottom. For the observation car try to do a half decent paintjob on them, just a little bit of work brings these much closer to the originals
How bout painting one to look like a conductor? A few walking people would be good.
Not a bad idea, I’m going to try it on my wagon, see how the standing figures look,,thanks for the suggestion,,😊
Not having to paint each figure really speeds up the progress of "loading" the passenger car.
Transportation Canada has announced a study into Via train #10, the Stumpy Express. There have been claims of people losing up to 18"(45cm). One patron was heard to exclaim that it was a real bummer to get on the train full height, and come off too short to ride the tilt-a-whirl ride at the county fair. The investigation is expected to take 18 to 24 months........
