Thanks for the detailed as well honest review. My favorite gen is still GT75 from MSI: Gsync, 5 SSD slot, wonderful keyboard, true desktop replacement experience. Don't understand why MSI followed the stupid trend to make laptop lighter and thinner. GT75 better than GT76 than GT77. This Titan 18 is not bad, but for 5k USD, it's a hard pass. Guess I will hold on my GT75 for many more years.
Hi Jarrod , what do you think about Medion erazer major x10? In my country cost 850 euros Here the specs: Arc 730m (12gb) I7 12700h 16gb Ram ddr5 1tb ssd 1600p screen 100%sRGB 165hz 16:10 16inch 80wh battery Is in alluminum and the charger is of 300w
I wonder why the results are so weak (relatively of course), considering the hardware and the temps it should outperform every other laptop, even the ones with the same specs since the increased tdp and yet it seems that sometimes it gets beaten by last year cpu with less power. I think there must be something wrong with the tuning or the softwer or the drivers in the titan series, maybe that's why the temps are so low (the cpu not going over 90 in a stress test with all that power it's wierd). Maybe the problem is just the ram, 3600 is very slow, other laptops reach 5200\5600 with ddr5 and unless you actually need large amounts of ram for specific tasks the speed of ram is much more important in gaming and application in general (you will never even fill 32 gb in gaming).
I have same laptop To be honest, it has nothing to do with the memory clock The performance difference depends on whether BIOS advanced settings are used such as reducing voltage and turning off CEP / UVP / Core isolation I have tried increasing the clock speed of my 128GB DDR5 to 4600~4000MHz Although it can be turned on However, above 4200Mhz, it will fail the Windows memory check. The only 4000MHz can pass the stability check And the Cinebench results are not much different from 3600/4600MHz DDR5
sounds like my type of laptop, who on earth listens music on laptop speakers or use a touchpad, just use mouse, so im glad they went cheap on those features
The main issues I think are the touchpad, speakers, lack of Advanced Optimus, and I wish all of the keys had mechanical keypads. The lack of mobility I don't consider an issue - it's not meant to be a mobile laptop. It's meant to big and heavy to get the best cooling and most performance.
How does the MSI RAIDER 18 HX compare to the TITAN? There are only few reviews on the Raider 18 HX but it’s considerably cheaper. Id like to buy a 4090 18” with good “premium” build, numpad (for engineering work and programming) and good battery life (4-6 hrs). The scar 18 is good but i heard it’s plastic-y, while the blade 18 doesn’t have that numpad I’ve grown accustomed to. Been looking into MSI machines but most reviews are only on the TITAN which is too expensive 😩
I had another laptop with a terrible touchpad like this, thanks to this I learned double-tap hold Also the 5600 MHz should be 5600 MT/s, the 3600 MHz however is correct
I think the main problem with the Titan series is that so few people considers buying them, therefore per unit price can never come down. MSI is shooting themselves on the foot with this one. You need to be mental not to go for the Scar 18 route.

THE ONE & ONLY Titan 18 HX review I've been waiting for! Thank you so much, Jarrod! I have an important question, and would appreciate your response, if possible - Why did MSI decide to remove the Mini DisplayPort altogether, and not even replace it with a 3rd Thunderbolt 4 port? I would 100% buy the scar 18 over it purely because of the screen. 2k dimming zone mini led 1600p 240hz with the GPU horsepower to back it up? That's a no brainer for me.
@@Arxgxmi not necessarily. If you're just looking for raw horsepower, MSI raider series has thicker heavier laptops, which cool better but are much less portable. I wonder what difference would it make if we compared the performance of 64GB DDR5 running at 5200 MHz vs. these 128GB DDR5s running at 3600 MHz. Can this be compared anyhow? Would it bring any real observable difference? Does a smaller but faster RAM bring some real advantage over twice as much larger but slower RAM? The previous titan is far superior to this model. 4k MicroLED at 144hz, an unlocked i9 13890, and a real legit touch pad.
we need new cooling tech in gaming laptops for sure
Jarrod,
I was talking with xoticpc about this model and I am interested to see what you would recommend for my scenario.
-4 days a week, 8hrs I’ll be estimating architectural plans
-1 day a week, 8hrs I’ll be photo editing, web design & commerce management
-3-4 days a week, 1-2hrs playing games
-4-6 day a week, 1-hrs audio engineering using logic pro with many vst plugins
-downloading lots of files
-photo/video/vfx editing
-using many web tools at once
-gaming
-audio engineering
I’d like to be able to run a computer very low on power and cpu for my daily estimating work and have some custom maps for editing and gaming.
Would you have any other best recommendation that may be better suited for me rather this model?
Hope this gets to you, thanks!
That scar 17 3d is just criminal🤩
I'm more of a Dell XPS fan. The old Dell XPS 17 with the i9, 64GB of RAM, and the 4080 was a BEAST for it's size and weight
would the gigantic m18 work for you? same manufacturer, metallic construction, a 4080/4090 that run at the highest possible performance that obliterate your xps in power, at the cost of weight, size, power draw, and well...cost
@@lsp6032 eeeeexactly, the dell xps 17 uses just 135w of power, weighs the same as a 15 inch laptop, and is good for the price. Im more of a productivity person anyway
In my country cost 850 euros
Here the specs:
Arc 730m (12gb)
I7 12700h
16gb Ram ddr5
1tb ssd
1600p screen
100%sRGB
165hz
16:10 16inch
80wh battery
Is in alluminum and the charger is of 300w
Nice review! 4 ram + 4 SSD!? And that slim ??
I have same laptop
To be honest, it has nothing to do with the memory clock
The performance difference depends on whether BIOS advanced settings are used such as reducing voltage and turning off CEP / UVP / Core isolation
I have tried increasing the clock speed of my 128GB DDR5 to 4600~4000MHz
Although it can be turned on
However, above 4200Mhz, it will fail the Windows memory check.
The only 4000MHz can pass the stability check
And the Cinebench results are not much different from 3600/4600MHz DDR5
sounds like my type of laptop, who on earth listens music on laptop speakers or use a touchpad, just use mouse, so im glad they went cheap on those features
I had another laptop with a terrible touchpad like this, thanks to this I learned double-tap hold
Also the 5600 MHz should be 5600 MT/s, the 3600 MHz however is correct
I think the main problem with the Titan series is that so few people considers buying them, therefore per unit price can never come down. MSI is shooting themselves on the foot with this one. You need to be mental not to go for the Scar 18 route.
Please review the newly launched MSI Raider GE78HX V14 RTX 4090. Thank you.
The only msi that doesn't look cheap
Hope you'll do a Raider 18 review soon. Just to compare with this.
I think it's safe to say between MSI, Asus and Lenovo, Lenovo is leading innovation with their Legion series.
Do you get to keep the laptops that you review or do you need to hand them back?
Also nice video 👍
Hey Jarrod, can you review the Ideapad Gaming 3 with the Ryzen 7 7735HS and RTX 4050? I understand if you can't though. Loving the videos, keep it up!
Jesus Christ, the cost of a kidney, and still so many downsides 😅
Windows laptops are in a terrible state. Honestly see no reason why people shouldn't just get macbooks. It's so easy to make this good but they refuse to
@@SPECTRA890 It's just that this one is poor for its price. iOS is simply impractical, especially for gaming.
@@SPECTRA890what games can you play on mac again? Apple is the biggest rip-off in the game, you cant even upgrade ssd never mind ram. What a fanboy
@@SPECTRA890As insane as M-series CPUs are when it comes to sheer efficiency and MacOS works instead of the shit we call Windows 11, the Macbook has too many downsides to even begin considering.
Hopefully Windows 12 and Snapdragon's Elite X ARM CPUs begin changing the game. iirc NVIDIA and AMD are also working on ARM CPUs
@@SPECTRA890Lenovo Legion are top tier
Hey Jarrod! Please also don't leave out the Desktop side of things, You haven't made any Desktop related content for some time. I don't know any other RUclipsrs that make detailed Vids like you do for the desktopside.
There's nothing interesting on that side of things at the moment. Even laptops is quiet, we're down to 1 video a week at the moment, lowest ever.
@@JarrodsTech so this is the reason for less frequent Videos lately?
The blue back stripe look so bad. Having RGB is for changing to the color you like, but then having to stuck with blue stripe forever.
This one was on the shortlist but after a lot of contemplation I went for the Alpha17CV and dropped 64GB in it and not regretted it, 32threads on the 7945HX with no efficiency cores to worry about so no need to shut those down in some games at less than a 3rd the price of this with a 240hz 1440 screen was hard to ignore at the price point..
I’ll be buying it, and I have a question: what should I do if I change some values in the BIOS and not boot and need to reset it. What are the ways to reset bios? Is there a way to reset without opening the back cover?
Really wish I didn't get the strix scar 17. It's rtx 3070ti and i9-12900h upgraded to 32gb of ram 4tb of space. Decked out just to last a while I know the 3080 was better but was just to expensive till it went on sale a few months later. The sad thing is I'm getting older and more busy and I can't play games as much anymore it's hard to even enjoy them because it just feels like wasting so much time
It is now A$6299 on JB-Hifi. I am very tempted to get one but also hesitant cuz the 50 series is right around the corner.
It is not a difficult issue how powerful a laptop should be. The problem is keeping the weight under control.
Great Review! But would be great if you could test the laptop connected with external monitors etc. I think most people aren't gaming with a laptop like this standalone.
It's a disappointing downgrade from the 2022 & 2023 Titan GT77 HX. Does MSI plan to bring it back next year when Arrow Lake HX & RTX 5090 arrive? Thank you.
Not sure about the mini displayport. I'll see if I can get some info from my MSI contact.
@@JarrodsTech Please do! Thank you so much!
Is there any chance of lenovo 18 inch device and should i buy scar over msi?
I would 100% buy the scar 18 over it purely because of the screen. 2k dimming zone mini led 1600p 240hz with the GPU horsepower to back it up? That's a no brainer for me.
asus is better than msi in literally every aspect.
@@Arxgxmi not necessarily. If you're just looking for raw horsepower, MSI raider series has thicker heavier laptops, which cool better but are much less portable. Asus Scar series has sleeker designs and perform a bit worse, but are not far behind. (For a given generation of laptop with the same specs). If you plan to take the laptop around, Scar. If it's stationary most of the time, Raider isn't a bad choice.
I just hesitate to recommend MSI because of their less than ideal track record
Haven't heard any news on that one
Hi, awesome test as usual.
But I think you should include a power consumption section, like a wallplug measurement in idle, load and perhaps battery charging states.
I have 6 (mainly tower) systems for my geek family, and combined consumption is now an issue, may be interested by laptop replacements to cut the costs.
(may not rly an issue for this specific 5K$+ laptop user audience).
Hi, im planning to get lenovo pro 7 rtx4090. Should i wait for new versions? Or is it cool?
Now is a good time to buy, we won't get new CPUs/GPUs for Laptops until January 2025 at the earliest.
@@JarrodsTech thank you! Just got my legion pro 7. Hope it's a good choice over raider ge78 hx14vhg 🙌🏻
you can get this laptop in the US spec'd the same a the scar for the same price. 3899 for 4090 and 3199 for 4080. I hate that every reviewer acts like this is the only version of this laptop available.
Jarrod, this is a great video. But what is the reason why you have always avoided the MSI stealth 17 laptop? And will there be a review of MSI stealth 18?
MSI haven't offered it and Stealth models usually get poor views making it difficult to justify the week+ of time spent to make a video.
I haven't used a gaming laptop or monitor without G-Sync / FreeSync in years, I've gotten accustomed to it completely. Since the Titan doesn't have g-sync does that mean it'd be more prone to screen tearing and/or microstutters / etc, especially when there's a major disparity between the refresh rate and FPS? Or is it a non-issue in modern panels?
You should check the Pro player gaming setting. They always disable G-sync.
Caro Jarrod, il coperchio inferiore in quale materiale è realizzato? Grazie per il tuo ottimo lavoro.
Is it better than di rader ???
Do you plan on doing a video on the New 2024 version of the Asus Scar 16? :)
Nice video!
My favorite pastime: watching reviews of expensive gadgets I can't afford.
What is your ram speed?
64 gb 4000 mhz works, what is the situation when there is only 32 gb
I would be very happy if you answer

Should i get Tuf A15 with ryzen 9 7940HS and 4070 or legion pro 5 with Ryzen 7 7745HX and 4070 ?both are on sale for around 1300$.which would you prefer?
Amazing review as always!! Thank you so much for your content! I have one question, Given that it has 3 ssd slots, what is the maximum storage capacity? 8tb? 12? 16? Thanks 😊
I don't know if there is a limit, it would probably depend on the CPU/chipset rather than anything the laptop is doing.
Great review as always!
Over $5000 for a gaming laptop is crazy
The titan is built like a tank. *Proceeds to wiggle screen.*
Pretty normal stuff.
I can't wait for the ROG Zephyrus G16 test! Keep going, pal. 😉👍
Nice as always, bro why u dont review the Alienware laptop?
It would be great if u can do one and compare it to others.

Neither, get a Desktop, much better value for the money.
Apple still suck for animation or 3d stuff,

Go with gaming laptops. Mac still suck at 3D
Geez this laptop is for those ppl that don’t do any research and just glance at the price and spec sheet in think “bigger number better”
Very good review as always.
But a very minor mistake at 20:08 that must've been a small slip of the mind: you must mean "using ^Advanced Optimus doesn't give you as big a performance boost", since having just "Optimus" on would cost you a bit of performance.
And also I still insist that 1:1 isn't the right way to convey an infinite or immeasurably high contast.
why is the scar 18 2024 doing worst then the titan? is that got to do with the tdp of 65watss for the scar and 95 for the titan?
Hi Jarrod, can the touchpad be configured to be more accurate to touch? Have software drivers come out that have improved this touchpad issue? Thank you sir
I didn't see anything obviously available as far as user customization goes, but yes I suppose in theory they might be able to tweak how it responds in software as it's haptic feedback.
Hi, Jarrod! Thanks for the review! Could you please also make a review of MSI's Stealth 18 AI Studio (2024), if you have a chance? It would be really interesting to know your hands on experience and opinion on their new 18 inch but quite portable laptop.
Maybe, Stealth videos usually perform poorly so it's not exactly on my priority list, but we'll see, there might not be much else, it's a quieter year.
@@JarrodsTechSpeaking of a quiet year, we know that Zen5 appears this year. Do you think we'll also see Zen5 laptops, or those will come next year ?
@@JarrodsTech Stealth videos perform poorly for a good reason. No one ebin cares. Except this one guy with one like on his comment.
Powerful laptop in the planet till now 😮
Another beast of a gaming machine ruined by the panel, imo. Last year, I went with a Scar 18 over the MSI Titan andd 90% of my decision was based on the panel (for gaming).
Will you be reviewing the Legion 5i 2024? I am curious how the 32gb, 4070 version compares to last years pro5 with similar config
Shouldn't be much difference
@@Legitti So canibalizing the counter part whichever customers prefer.
You finally recorded it, but after all, it's just too expensive.
who would build such a laptop and then put 128gb of DDR5 3600mhz!!?
MSI does
Blame Intel for dropping mem speeds when increasing capacity.
@@sabishiihito you cant just add capacity and keep the same speed, we're currently limited by the IMCs on the CPUs unfortunately and 64GB is hard enough to run at over 6400Mhz on a desktop, let alone 128GB on a laptop.
the best part of the video was kalmah, heroes to us amazin song lml haha
Tbh though i had a previous version of this laptop, it's definitely supposed to be a desktop replacement, i even remember it being marketed that way. Yes it did practically replace my desktop for about 5 years. Then i got addicted to warzone and needed to upgrade so i built my own pc. Now i'm thinking about going back to a laptop and selling my old pc which is still remarkable with a 3080 and 5900x cpu and basically top of the line everything else in ITX form. I just want the mobility of a laptop if i were to travel but i'd definitely not care about the touchpad, b/c who doesn't use a mouse?
Imo I found the power supply more impressive than the laptop itself 400w in such a form factor
You can't SEE the backlight brightness change while holding the Fn key? Why is MSI always including such strange decisions?
I will never understand the appeal of RGB touchpads
3K for a great PC , 1K for a great monitor , and you still have money for a laptop / tablet / phone .... This price is absurd
Hello Jarrod! When is the Lenovo Legion 7i 2024 review coming? any updates? Looking forward to it!
No ETA, we're waiting on Lenovo, who have stopped respondong to us.
but, is there an option to disable lights on touch-pad?
I wonder what difference would it make if we compared the performance of 64GB DDR5 running at 5200 MHz vs. these 128GB DDR5s running at 3600 MHz. Can this be compared anyhow? Would it bring any real observable difference? Does a smaller but faster RAM bring some real advantage over twice as much larger but slower RAM? There may not be many opportunities for a "normal" user to utilize 128 Gigs of RAM anyway these days ...
