When I was about 16, I happened to catch this right as it begun late at night on npr in my bedroom and I lay there cradling my radio and crying through it. That first movement is the single most special piece of music in my life. I’m 39 now, getting home from the hospital and my wife put it on and I’m still sitting alone in the car sobbing, cradling the phone. I can’t explain it. Sorry entire rest of the world, Europe simply has you very badly beaten on their musical culture. It’s not even remotely close.
I wish more people knew about and talked about this piece. It’s so beautiful and magical... ever since I heard it for the first time in the 90’s, I fell absolutely in love with it. The 2nd and 4th movements are such powerfully underrated gems of composition.
you are absolutely right ! I too, fell immediately with this piece, which reminded me of Brahms whom I adore, too.... Oh God, what composers, what an inspiration ! jewel !
I think Tchaikovsky must have had a great visit to Florence! I just love this expansion of his Sestet to string orchestra, and commend this ensemble for their wonderful expression and musicianship! Perfection!
Wow this sounds great as this is originally a string sextet (2 violins, 2 violas, 2 celli) written by Tsjaikovski but later rewritten for string orchestra so with double bases and bigger string groups.
I. Allegro con spirito 0:03 II. Adagio cantabile e con moto -- Moderato 11:06 III. Allegretto moderato 21:28 IV. Allegro con brio e vivace 27:33 Encore: Carlos Gardel, Por una cabeza 36:46
A stunning performance by one of the world's very best orchestras. The arrangement is insightful and brings the composers heart and soul to life, the musicians are superb and the performance is a masterpiece in itself. Bravo!!!
The slow movement consists of sound effects like reflections in the water then a beautiful duet between cello and solo violin swooning away in romantic ecstasy. My favourite moment.
This demonstrates the genius of the Master Composer, Tchaikovsky. So many delightful variations, some I've never heard in another piece before. Thanks for bringing this to us.
I was drawn by the title, perhaps because my month long trip to Italy became three weeks in Florence with a few side trips. It is a magical city. This piece is a delight. I'm so happy to have it offered by RUclips. Of course, I subscribed to this channel some time ago simply because they keep giving us such powerful performances.
Adagio cantabile e con moto, (11:06) reminds me the last part of hungarian anthem a lot. It´s from 1890, and our anthem from 1844, so it´s fairly possible that Tchaikovsky was inspired by it. I mean the part accompained with lyrics: "Megbűnhődte már-e nép" What do you think guys? Do you ever heard about it?
Excellent performance, and performed in this expanded approach brings new insights to the work. Very enjoyable and thank you for bringing this to us. ( It might be a souvenir of Florence, but the last movement is so very Russian.) Several audience members left too quickly and missed a delightful encore.
Mooie uitvoering door enthousiaste musici die zichtbaar genoegen scheppen in hun samenspel. Niet alleen mooi om te horen, maar ook prettig om naar te kijken.
Deep impression was reaching my wandering soul . 🍎 These fiddlers,s performances are tremendous and exquisite ! From effulgent Tokyo in profound Japan Which national are you watching this video ?

That makes life so special. This was an absolute pleasure to listen to. ❤️
27:35 is the last movement.

One of the MANY most delightfully pleasing musical compositions to ever be assembled!!! 🕰️🪔🧚♀️💎

Indian music exists, my friend... Were it not existed, one can truly claim Western classical music to be peak musical culture... Cheers!

For all those people suffering from Florence syndrome as Tchaikovsky did. A masterpiece.

It's sad that nothing to this level is created in today's times.
