Once I watch him taste the stew, spit it out because it tasted terrible, shrug and keep on cooking. Ingredients:
1 lb game meat (such as venison, rabbit, or boar), cubed
    1 onion, chopped
    2 carrots, chopped
    2 potatoes, peeled and diced
    2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef or game broth
    1 cup water
    1 bay leaf
    Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh thyme, rosemary, and oregano (optional)
    Vegetable oil for cooking
    Instructions:
Heat a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add a bit of vegetable oil to the pot.
Add the cubed game meat to the pot and brown on all sides. Remove the meat from the pot and set it aside.
In the same pot, add the chopped onion, carrots, and potatoes. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables start to soften.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Return the browned meat to the pot and pour in the beef or game broth and water. The liquid should cover the ingredients, but you can adjust the amount of liquid based on your preference.
Add the bay leaf and a pinch of salt and pepper. You can also add fresh thyme, rosemary, and oregano for additional flavor.
Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the meat is tender and the flavors have melded.
Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
Remove the bay leaf before serving.

I haven't cooked in a cauldron before but I have used a camp Dutch oven a number of times. In my experience most recipes are going to be cooked at about 350 and preferably lower and slower so the potatoes are actually cooked all the way and the meat isn't chewy. Seeing Pearson go through that process was great, but it took him 4 hours to prep and cooked it way too quickly. hahaha!

It could simply be modern society's influence on my own mindset, but I could probably do his "job" faster myself were I taught how to do it or if I learned how to.
I'm not saying I wouldn't appreciate the work he does, but it's not like he does ridiculously more than anybody else. He's just the only one in camp that prepares food for people - the same as other people go out and make money, or they clean, or they do chores.

CD Project Red: Lets spawn the npc, oh and also lets spawn the stew, in someone's head, when the player is not looking, despawn both the stew and the npc. PERFECT!
Ubisoft: Lets copy paste both the stew and npc.
EA Games: Lets charge 19,99$ for the npc, and then another 4,99$ for the stew, oh and dont forget the meat, only 1,99$ for the meat, yeah that would do it.

    • @IronHorse1854
      @IronHorse1854 Год назад +1

These details are neat but don't really serve gameplay. I enjoyed the game but I still think it's deeply flawed, it's not the pacing that's the issue either, it's that the gameplay is very last gen even for the time it came out. People point out things like "but your beard grows in real time!" "but NPCs have specific schedules and live actual lives!" but how does any of this actually serve the game. I mean Pearson could have just been doing any random thing each time Arthur visits the camp, without a schedule, and it would have the same impact on the gameplay.
It's like being able to pet a dog in a game, like "you can pet the dog!" and what does it ever do? Nothing most of the time. So why even have it. Take a look at an older game where characters had schedules, Majora's Mask, where the schedules actually matter to the gameplay. You can only do certain things with certain characters at specific times on specific days, the game revolves around a time travel mechanic, and to finish the game you need to learn all the NPCs schedules and find the opportunities to complete their specific quests. That game came out 23 years ago and it had this same mechanic, only it actually mattered in the game. Not saying RDR2 needed time travel, but the schedules of NPCs could have been more meaningfully connected to the gameplay in some way if they were going to go to the trouble of having it at all. Outside of a handful of examples, like stores closing/opening or table game availability, it's not utilised at all really.
Not saying RDR2 is a bad game. I enjoyed my time with it, it was a lot of fun. It just wasn't particularly revolutionary in any way that truly mattered. Details are cool, but they ultimately don't matter and aren't even noticed by the overwhelming majority of players. Like I said, if NPCs just did random things at any moment, the difference would be unnoticeable until you spent a whole in game day just shadowing them, which 99% of players will never do or care about.
