Finally found a copy of the new edition in stock. Played it. My opponent was Jack and on the third turn he stared at the board for thirty minutes before conceding! Now it’ll be my turn as Jack…. Yeah, not great for beginners. But we’re already hooked after an abbreviated first game!
Yes definitely not the best choice for a first Mr Jack game add its super thinky. Mr Jacket Pocket is best for that. But if you’re able to get past the learning curve you can play this game for the rest of your life and Have each Game Feel different.
Hi Dan, thanks for this review! Just discovered this game and played it for the first time today, and I am unsure if we understood the instructions correctly on the Park fields: can every person move freely through the park without losing any counted steps, or is it just Cloud Rider? And entering and exiting a subway station are two separate steps, correct?
I’m glad you had a chance to try it! So the cloud rider moves through buildings as one movement. So if there are three buildings in a row she can move through them all for 1 movement. Keep in mind there are buildings printed on the board but also on the tiles that Cloud Rider places on their turn. No one else can move through buildings. The parks are different (the opposite side of some of the tokens) and placed by the green character. Anyone can move into a park for one movement and another movement to move out of it. So those act like normal spaces from a movement perspective. For the subway, if you’re next to one it’s one movement to move onto it, then a 2nd movement to move to any other subway then a 3rd movement to move adjacent to that subway. If you have more questions send me a contact form on my website www.gameboygeek.com it’s easier to have a Back and forth than with comments. Also have you checked out my beginner strategy guide for the game? It really helps understand many of the strategies in the game and It helps you enjoy it faster!
Thank you so much for this review! I've been eyeing a lot of hidden movement games and want to take the plunge. Mind Mgmt is high on my radar, have you played it, and do you have a favourite you'd recommend? Typically i play 1v1.
This definitely feels different from other hidden movement games. Others I love are Letters From Whitechapel, the new Stop Thief (which has a one vs many mode now).
Hey Dan. What version of NY is better, 2016 or 2022? I know the 2016 version of the original game is better than the recent one but in my notes I wrote that the 2022 version of NY is better, but I didn't elaborate how or where I got that info from. I'm sure you must know though. Thanks!
For NY it’s almost impossible to find the old version these days. The new version many people like the set better but the board and pieces are a little smaller. So i still prefer the older version, but others I played with like the newer version better. So it depends it you like the new board look better and characters. If so even though it’s slightly smaller it will be better for you
Hi Dan, Im not really sure how to use "The Informant" after he's been visited on a Liberty Island. He is placed silence side up anywhere on the board and once the turn is over and all 4 characters payed, then he's filled back to his talkative side. Then, if I want to "visit" him again, I simply move the character on him? And is he then replaced anywhere else or stays exactly where he is?
Yes you have it correct. Anytime you land on him which can only happen when his talkative side is up, you take an alibi card (Jack identity pile) and take and look at top one secretly then move the informant to any empty spot on the X side. Remember that means no one can go on him until next round so you can cleverly use that to block someone from going to a specific space.
Hey Dan, thank you for another great review. Do you think that for someone who has Mr Jack + the expansion, this one would offer more variety?. I mean having both games do you think is worth it or having both will be redundant eventually. .
I think of you have the original and expansion and you love it that you’ll also love this one and the aspect of creating the boats each time makes every game feel very different.
Happy holidays Dan!! Do you think a veteran gamer would have an easier time picking this up, or do you still suggest starting with standard Mr. Jack? Thanks! Great video!
Merry Christmas, my friend.
Larry the Bari!

I would love to see a Dexter re-theme of this.
I read the rule book and your beginner's guide, and frankly I would need a video of a playthrough to understand fully the mechanics of this game.
It’s not bad once you understand all the abilities. Most are straightforward (except people and black).

is this the new version, dan?
Yes it is!
This new version has great art!
Do we have a release date?
Those aren’t typically given to me but usually if I get it, it’s usually a few weeks later in retail.
Never played Mr Jack. Mr Jack Revised Edition vs New York? Do you think New York is far superior?
NY is definitely the best by far but definitely not the best to start with for the reasons I mentioned in the video :)
Happy holidays Dan!! Do you think a veteran gamer would have an easier time picking this up, or do you still suggest starting with standard Mr. Jack? Thanks! Great video!
A Veteran Gamer would probably be ok, and Mr Jack Pocket is always the best to start with to see if you like the system.
Solo variant
I wish they would get the app up and running again
