Perfect for any Christmas dessert, cut open this huge chocolate confection to reveal a surprise inside cake. This started with 6 pounds of chocolate cake recipe carved into the candy shape. It's soaked in simple syrup, layered with Italian meringue buttercream, and a secret chamber within is filled with candy and sprinkles! The outside is finished with a layer of fondant to complete the wrapper look.

In upstate NY they’re much longer and come in jars, and they’re an off white color like bones with chocolate in the middle. Maybe that’s more of the origin, because they look more like actual chicken bones?

I actually got a trio of HTCI sprinkles for christmas and I used some of them on my sugar cookies.
Mum bought a huge box of crackers for us (there are two of us) and I was like, "Um... why are there sixteen crackers?" Her response? "So? They're fun!"

I’m so excited you did this cake! I just learned about this English tradition that my in-laws always did because their family is from England! I had no idea about Christmas crackers until this year! I ended up buying some crackers for this year and am so excited to continue this tradition!! 🥰

In Germany, we use them for New Year's Eve which makes a lot more sense since the old custom says that we use fireworks and fire crackers at midnight to chase away the bad spirits for the New Year. In Germany, your fun and colorful design also fits perfectly.

I love when you make big cakes that can be scaled down. Not sure how much smaller you can make it with the secret chamber but you could do cute mini one without the chamber. Or you could use mini Swiss rolls (home made or shop bought) and then decorate them.
