I like the aspect of primogeniture being the driving force in the Breen Confederacy. L'ak being the Primarch's nephew means his father was not the first born son. Being demoted while having ambition has to be the worst.
This also explains their aggressive and war-like nature; this opens up the possibility that the worlds in the secret protocol with the Dominion were simply the spoils meant to be the empires of those not first born.

I don't have a problem with any of this. While it doesn't exactly explain why they joined the Dominion it could be due to this gelatinous form. Perhaps the Breen thought they were an offshoot of the Founders from eons ago or maybe they thought they could use their semi solid form to curry favor with the Founders. As for the Founders they may have welcomed the Breen just to lure them in, but might also have felt they were a kindred species thus thinking more highly of them than the other solids. The changelings have been around for a very long time so maybe they created the Breen. It also explains why no one ever saw what they looked like. Perhaps when they are killed they liquify so whenever anyone opened up those suits they'd just find a lot of goo inside.

I'll admit, this reveal wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it could've been far, FAR better.
The Typhon Pact novel series handled the reveal of the Breen exceptionally well, revealing them to almost be a mirror of the Federation of sorts: At least a dozen different species forming a single Confederacy. Unlike the Federation's "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" spiel though, the Confederacy is a militaristic police state whose people collectively take the name Breen and wear the suits as a means of both enforcing societal conformity and eliminating societal bias. The suits are adapted to fit all of the species within the Confederacy, including built in environmental adaptations (cooling systems for the cold-dwelling, liquid-based Amoniri) and physical adaptations (snouted helmets for the lupine Fenrisal), and thus they all appear uniform.
It's a damned shame that the Discovery people didn't just canonize that version. But, then again, being Discovery, I question if it would've been handled well.

Leave it up to STD to infect another area of Star Trek with its lazy, incoherent writing. How does refrigeration increase elasticity or even allow for a gelatinous state??? I would think that being in a refrigeration suit is the opposite of flexible, on top of breaking the laws of physics. And of course he acts like a high school girl around his girl boss lover. This garbage needs to end already. I will give a praise on the Breen suits and sets, though. The art department did their job well.

@@nextlevelenglish5858 How doesn't it is the question. Using refrigeration to maintain a gelatinous state?? One that is transitioned to from a solid organic state in average temperatures no less. The refrigeration would cause either state to completely solidify. It's literally the opposite condition you'd need to maintain it. It would make more sense if they made the Breen some sort of nitrogen blooded lifeform that can't survive in our temperatures without vaporizing.
Then there's the next question: Why? Why do they go from a solid to a gelatinous state in the first place? They claim it makes them more flexible, less limiting than a solid form. Flexible in what capacity? Certainly not physically since they rely on a stiff, heavy refrigeration suit to maintain it. Mentally? If so, then how?
The reason they did this is because the writers thought they'd tug on some memberberries by making the Breen have something in relatable to Changelings. "Look, they're like a proto Changelings! They're Changlinging! And that's why they allied with the Dominion!" Except that none of it makes an ounce of sense. They're not assuming any new form of or mental state that make meaningful difference. It seems to be yet another allegory to some nonsensical social message. As always with these newer shows, the writers don't a have a brain cell between them.
I'm not even going to get into what they did to the personalities and mystique of the Breen, aside from saying that it's all out character assassination.
