When you work beyond working hours, and if you report this to HR they will said in every company this is same situation you can't expect to just work for 9 hours.
And this is we belive and work stupidly beyond 9 hours in fear of apprisal job safety.
I have seen many friends did job switching beacuse of this reason.

In this case i believe, manager goofed up. How can u reschedule a meeting because of cricket match. Also i believe there is different side also. Companies are overcommitting clients with strict timelines and then they try to squeeze resources. Then there is lot of learning curve on resource end as well, then r not ready to learn n quality issues. We feel its manager its always skip level management.

Company hire karti log presure dekhte 1 2 month me left kar dete the. Me sikhne k liye jitna ho sake kam karta but jab bimar hua to bole ki resign kardo agar kam nahi ho raha ho to. Jo meri location thi vaha na koi senior tha nahi koi team. Sari team head office se hi Operat ho rahi thi. Fir bhi 1 sal 4 mahine kam kiya. VP teams calls and fon call par itna abuse karta tha k meri mental health kharab kardi. pending work ke sapne ate the.

Its scary but unavoidable. If you decide your boundary and learn to say no, there will always be a guy who will working overtime to take your place. Unemployment is a major reason behind this work culture.
In india you can always find a person who can work 15- 16 hours a day on less salary salary..
Sad but true. Unless there are more employment, this problem won't be resolved

This is not the case with corporates alone. I used to work 16 hours a day for almost 2 months straight in an economic think-tank named Evidence for Policy Design (now, Inclusion Economics India Centre). These were exactly two months before my marriage. I was given just 5 days leave for my marriage. Other than these 2 months, I had average daily working hours of 55 hours a week, with weekends having hangover working hours.
Ironically, this is an institution led by US economists who works on subjects like "Human Rights", "Financial Inclusion", and "Women Empowerment", but this is the work culture the same economists follow with their research staff in India.
PS: I am now.working for a corporate with atleast 40-45 hours of work average. The work-balance here is far better than a my last job at a Think-Tank

Companies know shit 💩 about optimizing productivity but maximizing profit margins only. And so do Government, maximizing their profit margins through horrible taxes.
Labour Law Commission also doesn't give a fuck about employees so I believe there's only a solution for this, and that's keep switching jobs within a year or 6 months maximum..

This kind of work culture is pretty common in EY and there is more to it, my sister has been working there for the last 5 years that's why I know it, During her early joining days the managers from other teams used to ask her to work for there teams as well, as she was completely new there she wasn't able to deny them.
Gradually, her work load became so much that she used to be in a lot of stress.
After a year she started denying them and the managers used to pressure her by warning her about her yearly performance report.
But with yearly promotions the work load used to gradually decrease.

The people who own the company will always work hard and expect the same from others. Employees can't feel the same . If I work for you and your company pay me accordingly if it is 20 hours a day, pay me for 20 hours. Companies don't do that. Payment will be monthly for 9 to 6. If you are working more than that that is considered hard work.

The "hierarchy" concept struck a chord with me. As a young surgery resident at AIIMS, New Delhi, a very senior consultant always called us less capable because he apparently worked 24*7 for 6 months during his residency! So, the "saas-bahu" situation goes in a spiral when you have such people at the top.

Owners have a direct motivation for working and they also after a short span of time wants to stabalise their work-life.

For me, the worst organisation was indusind bank. I was the only girl there, people used to call me “govt” employee when I tried to leave around 6:30 pm, mind you it was already an hour later than official timing. I used to go on time, while all the male lalas used to come to office pretty much after 12pm, and it was justified for them to tag me as govt employee when I want to leave office just after 6 hours of when they have reached office, not after 10 hours of when I have come to office and started working. Not only it was 12 hours everyday work, commutation was also a big pain in the ass for me. Since then I hate carrying office laptop. They used to make me work on Sundays like it was a mandate. 6 days working, minimum 12 hours everyday with some Sundays also working and working for 16 hours in second half of the month. I screwed myself there with no monetary growth, no professional growth, personal deterioration, health disturbances for 3 freaking years.. I so wished I won’t have joined this stupid organisation ever!!

Should I sleep more than four or five hours during the day?I am not teaching the work of one knowingly, I am not doing shift and day shift and no one is taking work from me alone in the night 12 hour. Even after taking them to work, they say that Bhaji sleep is only known, then what happened if you have to spend an hour more.
