Just today I read some news that few poor girls loved BTS/Kpop so much they almost tried to travel from India to Seoul without telling anyone, and luckily they were rescued. Why are so many people (especially I feel girls) becoming crazy die-hard fans of Kpop that they would do anything for them?
@@adarshmohapatra5058 because how they portrait things in kdramas, idol vlogs, interviews and many such instances. They train idols for 3 to 7 years or more to be seen as an extraordinary being. I am huge kdrama fan . But i never follow any celebrity. I enjoy and watch dramas. Sometimes defend korea as a whole when someone unreasonably hates them. Sometimes j don't even know their real names.
Iam from Telangana, Yes there is a toxic fan culture here. Like, when a person said ADIPURUSH movie is bad then a group of Prabhas fans physically tortured him for sometime. The Worst thing is even the Media people and remaining public were enjoying it.
I had a similar experience. I was obsessed with BTS around 2 years ago because I had some personal issues and they helped me escape from reality. Then after one year of being obsessed, when the issues where finally resolved, I realised how unhealthily obsessed I had become. I still listen to BTS, but I'm not obsessed with them anymore. :)
Actually, toxic fan culture is much worse than this. As a South Indian, during my school days, my class was split in two groups: Vijay fans and Ajith fans(there were some students, who didn't side with either of the celeb including me, the two groups ignored us since we didn't spew hate on either of the actors). There were fights everyday on which actor was better compared to the other. The two groups would try to find the faults in the films and tease about it to the other group. And this toxicity was even in my college, with more intense fights and quarrels. My classmates bunked classes to watch the first shows of the actors and pride themselves as the biggest fans. Rajinikanth fans were obsessed to the point that you could frequently hear news of some fan dying while worshiping(pouring milk and doing puja) Rajinikanth's very large cutout, some fans go to temple barefoot, climbing many thousands of stairs, so that his movie becomes a hit.
I don't regret subscribing you Mohan. I really wanted a content on this topic. I'm tired of seeing toxic fans either downgrading others or forgetting their own existence. Parasocial relationships are ok in an extent since there are a lot of people in whose life their fav celebrity might be making an impact but to take that admiration to the level of obsession is worst. "Be a fan, but not a devotee" PREACHHHH🙌
that's really pathetic! obsession is always fatal. but in that case media were literally blaming BTS and calling them a "drug", it's not a way we solve problems, is it?
I wish you had mentioned some extreme examples as well, like fan fights resulting in death. In 2016 I remember a fans fight in tirupati over who's the best (NTR or Pawan Kalyan). Their fight ended with the NTR's fan killing Pawan Kalyan's fan. Here's the ridiculous part, both of those guys were friends. Toxic Fan culture in South India is like a virus that is plaguing South Indian population.
Bhai I was in some remote village in kerala and saw a political hoarding for a Vijay fan club 😂. legit president, Vp, treasurer, secretary etc sabh the. And these kids weren't even 20ye old! Just jobless kids.
I observed this toxicity in K-pop fans first, later I realised that this is normal for Indian celebrities as well. As a Telugu person, it's disappointing to see Tollywood fans wasting their time and fighting with others. Fans shouldn't lose their self respect in the process of worshipping a celebrity, instead admire their good work, get inspired from them, and hold them accountable if they do mistakes.
But one thing about kpop fans is that they cancel their celebrities pretty fast if a k-celebrity gets caught doing drugs then their career is doomed since s.korea has very big problem of bullying so many celebrities get accused of being a bully during their school times and most of the times they get kicked out of their group and then they have no chance in the industry whereas in India you can easily get away with these things
Agree but I think it's there life they are free to do what they want to do unite it is out of limits because im also like to debate with fans about anime and sports but I know the difference between debating and abusing
As a K-pop fan myself, I can vouch for the fact that parasocial relationships are a big thing in k-pop fandoms as well. I focus on the music and memes now mostly but I have to admit, I also went through that phase. Not necessarily a romantic parasocial relationship but a deep admiration. I am also not saying it's bad to like someone in the media but when it's taking up a lot of your time and distracting you from your work, it's an issue.
Maturity is when u realise that in this world, irrational, lunatic and crazy people will always exist and we can't really change them 💀👍🏻. Even if we try to make them understand, they'll troll us back instead coz that's how it works (completely illogical 💀)

Just like fake paparazis, the fan clubs were run by individuals who took money from celebrities themselves and help them counter harmful news about them and provide them support.
@@BuhumTV Really? The fans are so crazy that they can report this video and try to cancel this man just for using Elvish as an example. They are nuts.
I appreciate your work Mohak. One of the best videos on relatable topic in social issues. I had one of friend of mine who was in that bhakti vala trap of Taylor swift Calling themselves "swifties". She often used to indulge about the songs of hers, about her concerts and so. Main to kisi ka bhi Fan nahi hoon. But you pointed out right things. Usually fans forget what is right and what is wrong, only to feel the sense of self-belonging. Keep it brother! Great content!
I totally agree...i think Self-respect can be the biggest reason for this type of fan behavior in an individual. I have never seen anyone with high sense of self respect from my group manifesting this type of behavior. It also gives an aura of illiteracy present in those with erratic behavior like this.
I have been fan of very few musical artists, and I like to study fan culture as well, the sence of belonging, I have found alot of nice people and two really nice individuals as friends from these fandom culture, we often discuss these things among ourselves, in kpop fandoms mental health and help has always been promoted and supported, that being said, there are boundaries that shouldn't be crossed, for fans and celebs, it could sometimes even harm your own idols, and yourself. So be a fan, love yourself first, and stay true to yourself.
I personally think escapism point is the root cause. The truth is a huge chunk of our people live either deeply unsatisfied lives or lives full of stress thus this escapism through their personal "Heroes". I predict in future with rapid economic growth hobbies like Gamming and Anime watching are going to be super popular in India as well due to their high escapist nature.
Also our indian culture also support the kpop culture I never said anything to them but their obsession with them is crazy take my example I have some female friends but whenever we talk music they point out BTS and other kpop bands but when I tell them I don't listen to them they start talking to me like I've done any crime I'm not saying you should not support kpop but sorry sometimes you all have to support someone's opinions also as music is completely subjective!! No hate to kpop btw.

as a K-pop fan myself, this is so true on so many levels. The fact that the problem doesn't stop at Bollywood but extends to Hollywood, K-pop, and pop culture as well. it's crazy to see/ encounter someone who is overly obsessed with their celebrities, willing to do anything and literally ANYTHING. In some industries, such things can actually backfire on the celebrities themselves like in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean industries.

As a Kpop fan, I can guarantee you that you can see a lot of Sensual fidelity in Kpop just like Kris Wu who was a member of the EXO boy band was arrested in 2021 and was sentenced to 13 years in prison for r*ping even after this many active fan clubs of his support him and say he is innocent... there was another huge scandal which was known as "The Burning Sun Scandal" and the idols/actors who were part of this still have a great fan following... I hope maybe you could just mention the above things in any of your future video..
I am saying this from experience, the most important part of being a fan is getting self-satisfaction. The fact that my favorite celebrity is getting success and popularity or doing something good gives me a satisfaction that I have made the right choice by supporting that celebrity, which I may not get from anything else in my life. That's why when that celebrity does something terrible or says mean things, my first attempt will be to defend him/her and ignore that flaw as much as I can, so that I don't get hurt. If that doesn't work, then I would get disappointed and try to ignore that celebrity completely. So in a way, fans also use the celebrity to get self-satisfaction or self-validation, which is why there is immense pressure on that celebrity to maintain their public image.
But isnt that illogical ?? Seeing your celebrity become sucessful gives you satisfaction BUT what does it actually give you ? Shouldnt you be more concerned about your own sucess ? shouldnt your sucess give you satisfaction rather than someone else's . Specailly when that person doesnt even know that you exist ??

For me, this is total madness. At the end, these so-called celebrities are also made up of blood and flesh, why admiring someone who doesn't even know you exist? Admire your parents, your teachers, your friends, your life partner, who somewhere, somehow teaches you and make you a better person day by day, rather than bootlicking these so called idols.
It's about our average IQ. People worship ias officers, politicians, local celebrities, athletes. Looking up to a person is one thing but Becoming a fanatic is next level.
Since I was a small kid I used to see people calling themselves " FAN " and doing certain things . But I couldnt relate to them . I mean yes i might like an actors acting/personality but I cant be his fan and worship him . As most of the people have totally different personalities when on camera and when off camera . Some actors are seen as gods and have a very positive image on camera with millins of fans BUT THEY ALSO ADVERTISE AND SELL GUTKA AND PAN MASALA for money . And craziest thing is that people still worship them . This really made me think hard about general people mentality , Some people just have low critical thinking . My sister is one of them , She always worships some public figure . And I often tell her that its okay to like someones work but worshipping them is not okay . After many debates and arguments she finally accepts and guess what after 5-6 months she again starts worshipping some other public figures . This led me to believe that some people are biologically vulnerable to these things . Its not that they chose to be like this but its what their brain tells them to . . And in India this idol worshipping is on some next level . This video is a living proof of it . This video has 1.2 Million views with just 60k Likes and 2K DISLIKES . I mean at the end of the day its survival of the fittest , If some people have vulnerable brain you can either ignore them or exploits them .

I am a big fan of SRK, but thankfully I am mentally strong to not become his blind fan...
Mohak Bhai awesome video. I have always wondered why people become such die hard fans since I have appreciated an actors craft in a particular movie but never been idol worshipper for tht particular actor
Admiring someone's art or artist , taking inspiration of how to rise from rags to riche or some life lessons e.t.c is okay...but problem starts when we start losing our individuality. When we think that what they are doing is the only right thing and when we start abusing a person just because they don't like your fav celebrity is pure madness... celebrity worship is wrong whether it is in politics, movies or cricket .

Fan groups can be both good and bad. On the positive side, they foster a sense of community, shared enthusiasm, and can provide a platform for creative expression. However, they may also lead to excessive fanaticism, conflicts, and sometimes toxic behavior. It largely depends on the values and behavior of the specific fan group.

Kpop is even more toxic than bollywood
But one thing about kpop fans is that they cancel their celebrities pretty fast if a k-celebrity gets caught doing drugs then their career is doomed since s.korea has very big problem of bullying so many celebrities get accused of being a bully during their school times and most of the times they get kicked out of their group and then they have no chance in the industry whereas in India you can easily get away with these things

It's very rare to see a fan with a working Brian. My respect to you for being curious!
Bro this case is not about exo ok the burning sub club case was about big bang band 👍
@@Kai-ps6lh Exactly. That's why its so irritating, because human heart does not follow logic. I don't want to get attached to someone who doesn't even know me, but still happens and I can't even help it even though I want to.

Admire your parents, your teachers, your friends, your life partner, who somewhere, somehow teaches you and make you a better person day by day, rather than bootlicking these so called idols.
Admiration is okay. You could admire a certain individual's art, their thoughts or their achievements. Fanaticism, on the other hand, is not.

@@grishabhshori9637you are correct. There is a line between admiration and obsession.

Really need this video because after pathaan release I'm also becoming a devotee of SRK instead of doing study I started to scroll on twitter and started to interact with srk fans thanks to mohak he just opened my eyes I'll focus on my studies from now
All the best bro! Study well 👍
I was too, with some youtubers😢and now regret is forever
@@just_Vivek07 yes bro we should focus on studies we should not become devotees of anyone but we can be fan level 1 of fan is ok
Pathaan was one of the worst movies I had seen. Gave Bollywood a chance watchinf that crap, Nope. I Will stick to Malayalam and Hollywood (and some realistic well made Tamil movies )
@@3xpl0i79 look bro there's no movie which follows laws of physics so don't say that I agree that pathaan was not a good movie but it worth watching because it was a comeback movie of SRK after 4 years
7:30 😂😂 bhai mat bolo dukh hoga bechare bichariyo ko.

Thank You Mohak for discussing about one of the emotional pandemics ❤ Few fans are crazy about their star/celebrity they weave their life and social circle based on the stars which is pathetic.
In a Tamil TV debate show called “Neeya Naana”, husbands who are part of actors’ fan clubs proudly stated that they sold their wives’ gold jewellery, money saved for their kid’s education /wedding to mass book opening day tickets of their favourite actor’s films 🤦🏻♀️
The wives were also present & they looked broken.
I understand the behavior of men in their 20s who earn less and have not much responsibilities to get obsessed with an actor but why will a grown up man with family responsibilities behave that way
That's actually scary
@@radhe3920 omg you'd be surprised how many adult men with families of their own neglect their family & career to spend their time & resources on a "star" who wouldn't care a hoot of they died.
@@radhe3920men should be taught financial responsibility.... We always criticize women, but it's the men who keep splurging on unnecessary things
We had a toxic fan of SRK in the medical college😂 She failed for 5 consecutive years 🤦🏽♀️
Is she still in your medical College ?
