Yes the 284131 both looks the best and drives a little better. Our K989 is about 15 months old and used a lot, where the 284131 is only about 4 months old and not used that much (yet). It’s like those cars gets better over time, like they need some running in, so the 284131 is probably going to be even better where the K989 is maxed out. And it has the lights 😁
Thanks. They are perfect for indoor racing, you should consider making a carpet track like mine it works very well and is quick to deploy. There is a video on how to make it
It surprising how much you get for your money with these cheap cars. If you want to race with then you need a carpet as on for instance wooden floor they just drift around as they are very powerful for their size. Thanks for watching and your always nice comments 😀
Hey! Excellent video. Really saved me some time and bother. I had just put in an order for a $75 969 and when I saw your video, I cancelled the order and placed one instead for a $80 284131. I didn't know you could power slide with the 284131 or that it had the handy transmitter feature for capping the top speed. This is my first RC drift vehicle, so I'm sure the speed control will help me learn. The LEDs are a great bonus as well! I decided to also order some drift tyres for it, since the primary purpose for me was power sliding. I understand the difference between open and locked differentials, but not how they work in practice. Thanks for a very informative (and useful!) video.
K969 and K989 has a worse radio then 284131, but can be upgrade, see more here WLToys K989/K969/284131 radio upgrade FlySky FS-GT3B with EXP, Exponential. Improve steering. ruclips.net/video/_LAe7qcECkY/видео.html
I have made these two videos about locked vs open diff, hope it helps understand: ruclips.net/video/AqzqRUB_FEk/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/IaK9rInmT_s/видео.html
Thanks Buddy. The lap counter is great for comparison because my son Kristoffer is faster than me no matter if he drives K989 or 284131 so to get best comparison I had to make a lap counter
I also like the physical dimensions of the old transmitter better than the new. But electronically the new is better. Perfect transmitter would be the old case with the new electronics 😀
@@Sc0r3Pr0j3ct great idea. I have an old remote with a large wheel maybe I can move that over. On the other hand the 284131 is actually my sons and he likes the small wheel 😀
The 284131 & k989/k969 comes with same motor. But by the body and accessories the speed may be changed, but it wont be noticeable. I have them 3 k969,k989 and 284131. But can't guess which one is faster, they all feel the same 😅
The radio on the 284131 is a little better, the dead zone around steering straight is less than on the K989/969. When just driving around with it, you probably can’t notice it, but when you start racing with it you can quickly feel the difference. Based on the body etc, I would expect that the K989 could beat the 284131, but it can’t - at least not for us. We tried both cars on a 1:10 scale carpet track and here where they drove at top speed it was a bigger difference
@@LyhneRC Yeah, haha! The 284131's radio feels comfortable too. The dead zone really improved. For k989, i will recommend to change the radio and esc. There's a very big improvement on driving with it.
Yes I have thought of doing that, to see how great it can be. But already now it can flip over when going fast in turns, so I am worried if new electronics will make it more top heavy. Do you have any electronics you will suggest?
@@LyhneRC Yes, the overall weight will be increased. But it wont be so slow, as u said, the car can turn sharper more with weight. Currently i use flysky gt3c transmitter. You can go for dumborc for a budget, its really good too. I use 20A micro esc. The motor inference is different so u have to change and solder it.
@@loga_912 thanks. Don’t you also need another servo? I can’t remember if it has 3 or 5 wires. I would definitely use the fly sky to get EXP or maybe a sanwa
These aren't 1:18th scale, they are close but they are 1:28th - 1:25th scale. Worth taking them apart & sanding, scraping off excess plastic & some parts of the drive train so they roll smoothly, more top speed & battery life from a smother drivetrain along with ofc less risk of burning the electrics & motor from the roughness of it. Just picked up a k989 myself here in sweden for 500 sek or about 50 usd, which I'll need too tear down too do this with for it too work properly. the diffs barely works as diffs on my car atm, nor does it roll freely well.
Hi, you are absolutely right these cars are 1/28 scale, I made a typo in the description, is that were you noticed it? But thanks for pointing that out 👍. I have a K989, K969 and 284131, the K989 ran good out of the box, the K969 were a little tight in drivetrain but the 284131 was really bad. The diffs were so tight than I first thought it has locked diffs and drivetrain was also very tight. I made this video about how to fix that, maybe you have already seen it, I notice it in this video: ruclips.net/video/vw0_qGlPOTs/видео.html But the good news is that these cars becomes better the more they are used, my K989 which is by far the oldest and most used runs very well now. So sand it down as good as you can and let it run in and enjoy that it gets better over time :-)
@@LyhneRC 2nd charge with it i slid too far & broke the rear hub 2 minutes into driving lol. I think a 1625, 1410 or 130 would fit. If you want a BL motor you also need a new esc and radio/receiver
