    To move the steering rod to the upper hole on the servo arm what I did was put a bit of CA glue on a thin toothpick, smear it into the hole that’s too large and then gave it a drop of accelerator. After that the stock screw tightened into the hole nice and tight.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 года назад +1

      Yes, they can run together at the same time. You just need to start them up one at a time. Here's how to do it:
      Turn the first car on then turn the first transmitter on and move the steering wheel. Once that's done do the same on the 2nd car. If you have the 3rd, repeat the process on a new one.
      Do this every time you want to run because this car binds to the transmitter at start up.

    Beaver help, the gear that is supposed to spin the shaft (the one beside the metal pinion at 4:45 ) doesn't grip the shaft anymore so the car cant run. Is it supposed to be glued?

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  7 дней назад

      That gear isn't supposed to be glued but it has a notch that goes on the shaft and locks it into place. Try turning it around to feel the notch and it should slide into there. In the previous versions it coupled with the rear pinion gear that goes into the gearbox. In the new version it's locked into the shaft.

    I want to upgrade the diffs, front to a one way and rear to a fixed. Mini z ones or copies.
    And I right in thinking I only need the longer front drive shafts and I can use standards in the rear?
    If so is the an up to date list of where I can get the parts in the UK.
    Is there a steering angle mod you can do?
    I like the look of the carbon chassis and upper deck are they a direct replacement?? Seen some carbon shock towers to?
    Thanks 🙏🏾

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 года назад +1

      The one way I got from Aliexpress is really good. However if you don't want to wait a very long time then get a genuine Mini-Z parts within the UK.
      And yes, you'll need long drive shafts for the front with one way. Both can be found in the UK from www.rcm8.net/ .
      At the back you don't have to get a solid axle, you can just lock (glue) the original axle and it'll work. You don't have to change the rear swing shafts either.
      The steering mod: follow this tutorial from 5:38 ruclips.net/video/zB3pUN9XiSw/видео.html .
      Caron chassis is not recommended. It'll mess up your ride height. However feel free to try.
      Carbon shock towers are good. It should be in aliexpress so I don't know if there's any UK stock.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 года назад +1

      If the steering works but no throttle, make sure the battery is fully charged. Then check if the Throttle D/R knob is turned to the right direction. Hold the throttle and turn the knob to see if the motor runs, I think it should turn clockwise for max speed.
      The way to bind this receiver is turning the transmitter on, turn the car on then move the steering on the transmitter.

I've been having fun racing and drifting in my basement on a tight mesh carpet. I would like to pre-purchase some spare parts to have on hand in case of breakage. I live in the US where there isn't many parts available so I will have to make an overseas purchase. This is the reason I would like to pre-purchase some parts so that it I am not down for weeks in case of breakage. What parts can you recommend to have on hand? Also I would like to know with mostly carpet driving should I avoid stock replacement parts all together and just upgrade parts like differentials and steering components now? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 года назад +1

      The centre shaft (prop shaft) pinions are what wear out the fastest following by the differentials.
      There's a way to make it durable by replacing the pinion with metal bit.ly/3m1i4bd . As for the differentials, first change the CVD to long CVD like these bit.ly/3m1i4bd then you can use any Mini-Z AWD compatible differential, it'll be much more durable than WLtoys' part. You can get Atomic AMZ or GLA ball differential too if you want hi-performance differentials. Otherwise a standard Mini-Z AWD plastic gear differential already good for touring. You can find these parts in Mini-Z racing shop like kenonhobby.com , it's based the US.

      @@BeaversHobby thank you for the reply. I will definitely look into these part upgrades. I am finding this vehicle performs pretty well stock but obviously not like the videos that I am watching on the internet with such smooth drifting control. I have moved the steering linkage to the upper hole on the servo bell. And have used the included parts to move the rear differential back and extend the wheelbase. These changes have helped drifting control but I think my next step would be to improve the tires and add a drift gyro. Is there a brand tires and wheels you can recommend? Do mini z tires and wheels fit directly on the 969? Also the drift to gyro you recommend in your videos I have found on the internet but has a long wait time for shipping. Will the AGFRC GY01 V3 be compatible with the stock receiver, speed control combo? I appreciate your help guiding me in the right direction on those things.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 года назад +1

      @@cmkpikes Mini-Z AWD wheels and Mini-Z tyres are compatible with WLtoys. Make sure you got the AWD wheels and not RWD wheels because they are different. Here's my review from K989 which go into more details ruclips.net/video/TnhriaSSfSA/видео.html (K989, K969, 284131 etc. are all the same chassis).
      As for the gyro, unfortunately nowadays the new batch comes with JST-SH plug on the servo so none of the gyro will plug into it directly. You will have to convert the plug no matter which one you get.
      The gyro is generally compatible as it just intercepts the signal and send a corrected steering signal to the servo. It'll work as long as you get the one that has a dial on the unit. The reason being the stock electronics doesn't have a VR channel to control gain.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 года назад +1

      After you centre everything check if the servo can swing both sides equally, if not then re-center the trim then take the servo out and re-position the servo horn. If the swing to both sides are equal then it's the problem with the wheels, tyres and the suspension. See if you get the tyres contact the same on both sides. If not you might have to put M2 screws in the lower arms to adjust the ride height and contact.
      Also check out stage 1 and 2 for how to inspect and fix the car.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 года назад

      Check where the problem is first.
      If you can pull the trigger, push it to go one way then come back to centre again and push to go the other way then the problem is at the motor wire. You can swap the polarity easily by using a tweezer to push the tap on the motor plug down and pull the wires out then you can swap them. If you pull the motor plug out you'll se one side with the lock and the other side with the exposed terminal. Do it on the side of the terminal. It doesn't have to be a tweezer, anything thing enough can push that terminal down and you can pull the wire out.
      If the problem is not at the motor wire, the wiring inside the transmitter is reversed. You will have to swap 2 of the 3 wires in the throttle potentiometer. Not sire which one so you will have to experiment which of the 2 wires give you reverse throttle.

      It will over time. There are 2 solutions, 1 is to upgrade the drivetrain with metal bit.ly/3w7XChB so the centre shaft pinion gears are metal and the spur gear as well so the motor gear won't eat it that fast. Or replace the motor pinion with a plastic one.
      I recommend upgrading the gears to metal because it will prolong the car's life as the pinions are known to wear out very quickly.

      Out of the box with the drivetrain is very sticky and you will have to pull the throttle a lot to start rolling.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 года назад +1

      For using outside your best bet is Wltoys K989 or 284131. Unfortunately they don't sell this car as kit so you'll have to work it from RTR. Any transmitter will work providing you have a small enough receiver to fit inside. The antenna-less receivers from Sanwa or Flysky Noble (FGr4S) will do nicely especially the Noble because it's dust proof. If you want a small receiver then you'll need Futaba with S-FHSS/T-FHSS, Sanwa with FH3/FH3 or Flysky Noble. These transmitters have receiver (or compatible receiver in case of Futaba and Sanwa) with JST-ZH plug so you can use Atomic or GL brushless ESC directly without plug conversation. As for the motor, take a look at BYRC on AliExpress as they have enclosed brushless so you can run outside safely.

I noticed that on the 284131 truck that the receiver speed control and motor run extremely hot. The 989 gets warm but this will burn your fingers if you touch the motor. The gears seem to spin freely with no drag and I have made sure I am not over tightening the wheels to cause drag. Like I said this one runs much hotter than my other WL toys car. I noticed the body is more enclosed on this newer truck. But I have ran through a full battery charg with the body off and it still gets extremely warm. Any ideas what could possibly be the case? No other changes have been made to the car except for changing the stock tires for the PN racing radial tires. One other question I have is the 989 is set up with locked rear differential and open front differential with drift tires. I am having a problem where when I release the throttle the back tires just lock up making the car not control how I would like. I installed a one-way differential on the front but gave me the same effect that I do not care for and have removed it. With the open differential the front does not lock up when the throttle is released but the rear does. I thought about moving the one way differential to the rear but I don't think it's designed to be able to do that. The differential would have to be flipped around in the gearbox but then the rear tires would spin the wrong direction. I noticed this can be solved by flipping both of the differentials around and reversing the direction of the motor. Have you ever tried to put the differentials in backwards or flipped over 180°, however you would say it. And then reversing the direction of the motor. Can the motor rotation be reversed by reversing the wire leads to the motor? In the end I am trying to get the same effect that a one-way differential gives where when you release the throttle the tires just spin freely but on the back. Anyway you think I could achieve this?

      @BeaversHobby  2 года назад

      Make sure the battery is fully charged or have at least 6.8V.
      Check the TH DR (throttle dual rate) dial on the transmitter. It's the bottom dial. Turn it up or the other way and see if the throttle works. If not, check the motor connection if the wires are OK and not cut. If nothing works the car might be faulty so you'll have to contact the shop for a replacement or refund.

    Any good ways to mount the shell (and battery) without using clips? I keep losing them. Thinking to try using velcro but not sure where to mount it.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  Год назад +1

      Personally I don't recommend the velcro because you will have to line it up every time you play and if you use it for touring or anywhere with dust, the velcro will get dirty very quickly.
      What is the car for? Is it for touring or drifting. If it's for touring then there's no better and more secure option than using clips. However you can make it easier by putting a small cable tie on the loop at the end so you can pull the clip out easier.
      If it's for drifting then the magnet mount system is also good.
