    TV-translation from Moscow Conservatory 27.12.1977, just the final of Sonata No 3, made me a lifelong fan of Chopin. It was a great emotional shock, purification and rebirth for the Light.

    each of his notes was so bright and clean, in every piece he played, i love that. his way of playing chords is astonishing, just like richter's one.. neuhaus' influence?

    lol at your comment... Gilels was Rubinstein's inferior in one thing only - popularity, esp with Americans

    Composing and performing are two very different things (overlapping by distinct). For example, Rachmaninov was known to say that the best performances of some of his pieces were given by Horrowitz. It's a little silly to mythologize that all the composers of the past were also amazing pianists or had the "best" performance of their own music.

      Well, even though what you say is true, the example that you have given is not exactly the best. Rachmaninoff was a hell of a pianist.

    You can not compare Claudio Arrau to the best players in same day.Dinu Lipatti Oleg Boshcniakovich Ashkenazy Alexei Sultanov.the king in chopin sonata 3 dinu lipatti the best

  • @berlinzerberus
    @berlinzerberus 15 лет назад

    it doesnt sound like chopin,a bit too slow.his technique is qualified more for prokofieff or rachmaninoff.actually gilels´ chopin seems too heavy and not elegant enough.particularly the fast parts could be played more in a virtuoso manner,too static in dynamics i think.

    Really? Better than the guys who composed this stuff? I love Gilels but I think best ever is a bit of a reach.
