    Clay, this is just a great series. You bring a refreshingly realistic attitude to EDC and you've got a terrific sense of humor, not to mention your obvious weapons skills. Thanks much.

    Thanks for the useful tips. Tirelessly educating myself since I’m a new ccw permit holder. I’d have loved to see the targets on all 3 sights. Drawing the pistol and unloading 2 rounds into a large target vs drawing, sight acquisition, and getting a reasonable grouping seem very different. I’d gladly take several milliseconds longer if I was more accurate using a specific sight. Anyways, thanks for the series...tons of great info for us new to ccw and generally unfamiliar with carrying and drawing from holsters👍

    I have not read through all of the comments so if someone has already mentioned this, sorry for the repeat BUT... SCCY builds budget guns with Crimson Trace red dots mounted from the factory. The CPX-2 9mm WITH red dot has an MSRP of $339. They are not for everyone but in some situations might be good. I started out with revolvers so the DAO trigger is not an issue for me. I am now in my 60's and have to wear reading glasses so I either have the glasses on and can see the front sight but the target is really blurry OR have the glasses off and see the target but have a hard time picking up the sight. Since I need to be prepared to defend myself with or without my glasses, I chose the red dot version. Now I need to get some serious practice....
    BTW, excellent series of videos. Thanks.

    this man made a full hour of true education for anyone beginner or amateur, as a British person ,small concealed knife carry is everyday and a gun is an addition when the economy falls. NOTE: not everyone in uk carrying knife is a stabber (murderer) a confident blade tends to save you when you know a thing or two in combat without killing your attacker. over 10 attacks and or mugging attempts made on me a year in my erea eps:4 was knifes i think

    If your worried about forgetting to turn your red dot on or the battery being dead. May I suggest the Trijicon RMR, and not one of the cheaper (range use only IMO), red dots. All of your worries and concerns are addressed with the RMR. Especially with the release of the type 2. I have been carrying a G19 with original RMR for over a year, without a single issue. No flickering, lose of zero, or any other malfunction. And yes that's with thousands of rounds thru it as well. Also it is on a bone stock G19. No fancy windows or extra milling. Just milled for the RMR and that's it. So $500 for the pistol, $500 for RMR not on sale. And about $100- $150 to have the slide milled. A little over a thousand bucks and as of today the best red dot pistol setup you can get for CCW. If a G19 is to large, you can always have a G26 milled. That's next on my list. The shorter sight radius is irrelevant once fitted with an RMR. It would make for a very accurate and easy to shoot subcompact gun. Loosing just a small amount of velocity compared to the G19.

    Thanks for the video, I have been enjoying this series! One note about your "comparison", was that it looked like you were in very bright light and wearing sunglasses. I would be curious to see your shot times in a less well lit indoor scenario, between the two systems?While I don't want to give up the simplicity and reliability of my irons (unless my vision were to dictate), I do shoot with a few older guys (who have vision issues) that have gone to red dots for competition and EDC and it has made a big difference for them. Because they practice several times a week and compete often, I could see why they are comfortable with the set up.

    Red Dot is good as long as you can use it unless you don't have to remove your iron sights to use it. That being said, and this applies to laser sights also. I'll keep my iron sights. Been using them since the 1970's, used them in the military, I don't ever want to have to rely on anything that requires a battery to work properly. To each their own.

    Get a set of Night Fision jumbo tritium irons with a bright yellow phosphorescent front sight. Add a TLR8-G light/green laser and you're good to go. But let's be honest in a real high stress close encounter you will be aiming via muscle memory so practice makes fast and accurate.

    Suppressor night sights allows a co-witness and a 1300 lumens light with green laser is a no brainer. Add a red dot and you have a setup far superior to iron sights.

    Trijicon RMR not durable enough?

      To be fair, he posted this in 2017. RMR Type 2 with better battery contacts wasn't released until 2017, so perhaps he feels better about RMRs now. Regardless, the use of an RDS for old eyes is a no-brainer game changer. Not to mention (okay, I'm mentioning) the ability to threat focus with better SA with both eyes open (though some, I'm sure, have trained to shoot irons with both eyes open).

      I have guns with laser, some with night sights and others with red dot. At close range, I am MUCH faster with a green laser. When distance increases, red dot sight rules the day. On my most frequently carried gun it has a Trijicon RMRcc and Crimson Trace green laser. It’s a beautiful combination. I can shoot super fast and accurate enough at close range and still pick flies off a barn at 30 yards with a subcompact.

    • @justinofboulder

      For defense, Trijicon HD's are my favorite. Very quick to acquire in low light! For competition, Dawson fiber optic.....much more precise at longer distances, but a little slower (for my eyes) in lower light.

    I had a FF2 (Burris Fast Fire 2) on my XD-9 Sub... big mistake: this is where the "urban legend" is true! With my eyes I was FORCED to TRY TO FIND THE DOT after taking extra time to FIND THE WINDOW.... MUCH, MUCH SLOWER THAN IRON SIGHTS.... my CT Laser grip is soooo much faster and versatile that I put my FF2 on my carbine instead. On a carbine the FF2 is simply awesome since the window naturally lines up with the gun and the red-dot is just there.... a different weapon system of course and thus the best application for it. LOL

    Anyone who has gone to a USPSA open class competition knows that the fastest shooters use a Red Dot Sight on their race guns, not because its cool but because its quicker to pick up the sight and acquire the target.

      Try looking at StealthGearUSA Ventcore holsters. Make sure you check-mark the options you need on the right side of the page (threaded barrel, suppressor height sights, or red dot optic) and you should be good to go. If you need a light bearing model, there are those too.

    • @anonypersona3189
      @anonypersona3189 4 года назад

      They are expensive ($250-$500) but some are not fragile. The most robust optics are the RMR Type 2 and Holosun 508t. Pretty much bomb proof. If you want video evidence, look up SageDynamic's videos on them.

    At close range sight picture, while important, is not critical, any shot placed on a "man-sized" target will be sufficient to end the threat, no matter what Hollywood tells you. Obviously you want to hit the torso area, but at 10-15 yards you don't have to be a sniper to hit that. Now if you dont get to the range a lot, this will be a little harder...especially considering how much adrenaline and fear (and yes, you should feel fear) fuck with you.

    my iron sights: metal, solid, not going anywhere, no battery, no screen.
    red dot: fragile, can be moved, battery, screen to get dirty.

    • @anonypersona3189
      @anonypersona3189 4 года назад

      Have you seen SageDynamic's video's on the RMR or 508t? They are not fragile, don't lose zero, have long battery life (50k hrs, holosun has solar backup), and a dirty screen doesn't matter if you keep two eyes open and use a red dot properly. Get a red dot plus high iron sights as backup and you have best of both worlds.

    Red dots are stupid and unnecessary on pistols. Especially on CCW pistols. Guys seem to delude themselves into thinking it's the same game changer as irons vs red dot on a rifle.

    • @anonypersona3189
      @anonypersona3189 4 года назад

      I wouldn't go so far to say they are stupid and unnecessary on pistols... With such a short sight radius on pistols, you could argue exactly the opposite in fact: Red dots are more useful on pistols than rifles. Not sure why you hate red dots so much - many people in fact shoot faster and more accurately with them... so that's a bad thing? 🤷‍♂️

    • @TRIIGGAVELLI
      @TRIIGGAVELLI 4 года назад

      @@anonypersona3189 "red dots on pistols are more useful than rifles" I can tell you don't have much experience with both or you never had any substantial training. Fights with pistols happen at extremely close distance (often a few feet), but if you're fighting with a rifle especially in combat you'll have to take 2-300-yard shots and sometimes on the move. Have fun doing that with irons. It's possible of course, but exponentially more difficult.

    • @anonypersona3189
      @anonypersona3189 4 года назад

      @@TRIIGGAVELLI You took my comment out of context...Of course. My point is red dots aren't "stupid and unnecessary." They can certainly be useful on pistols and CCW's. If you can't see that than I dunno what to tell you. Go to a pistol training course these days and argue with all of the guys with red dots and the instructors. In the future, there's no denying red dots on handguns will become more and more prevalent. If you think the opposite, you're very naive.
