This Cellist is great! How can it be otherwise? Boccherini was a virtuoso cellist. A great composer of course, he wrote this song. This song shows the Cello as such a fine melody instrument, yet capable of playing lower tones to accompany the higher toned stringed instruments. I love how the Cellist gets excited to play his melody - a little too early! And he doesn't. He waits and nails the song. This Cellist is very talented. Wonderful technique and a beautiful sound!
Quasi quasi sconosciuto oserei dire. e
Such a beautiful homage to the music. So playful and light. You can imagine them playing at a party or among your friends, everyone (hopefully) just having a wonderful time. Wish I could have been dancing in Madrid :) (The central cellist is clearly the group leader, so encouraging and animated. Love it; and part of the reason why this group is amazing.} Opinions mine.*
Amazing! I love that two violins were used in the fast part of the “passa calle” movement, which I’ve noticed is rare amongst quintets. Thank you for sharing!
This is one of my favourite pieces and is one of the first that I heard after starting to listen to classical music. I bought a fantastic mobile phone speaker and it has transformed the sound of the phone. No longer is it all treble without any real sense of bass but now I can hear the full spectrum of sound
Magnificent! This has got to be one of the best interpretations of this piece I've ever heard. I've often felt that Luigi Boccherini is woefully underappreciated. And more's the pity. 242 years ago, this piece was clearly ahead of it's time. Thank you for posting this.
"Taking its inspiration from nocturnal street scenes of Madrid, it seems to look back nostalgically to the gaiety and bustle of Spain's capital, recalling the sound of the city's church bells ringing for evening prayer, the popular dances that were the delight of its young people, and the blind beggars singing their typical viellas de rueda until the soldiers from the local garrison sound the midnight curfew with their Retreat." - Jaime Tortella on this piece by Boccherini.
what a great song. what a great quintet. I think the movement from 7:35-10:23 is my favorite excerpt from any quintet piece ever. Or quartet! Thanks for sharing music. Just a great way to live.
This is fantastic. and yes a recent convert also, having just been unaware of Boccherini (although I did know the section from M&C !) and so it was actually thanks to R3 (BBC) and only last week hearing Fandango, Quintet in D major G448 for the first time. Absolutely inspired, and this is the same. Thank you so much for this , a great performance. spriteliness and grandeur for sure!
What a fantastic performance with such control. I am learning this on my violin and you have greatly inspired me. I love this whole piece. It sounds so clear and crisp played by yourselves . More please and thank you so.much.
Got to hand it to the Movies from time to time for introducing the masses to wonderful pieces of music. Bravo
I am a recent convert to Boccherini. So glad I found him. Thanks to Master and Commander.
Hold fast.
Ditto 👍☺
M&C is legit! It broke my heart when Calamy was killed.
Read the books fellas. They are endlessly enthralling. There are 20!
Boccherini is the lesser of 2 weevils
“The bird’s flightless, Stephen?”
“Yes.”
“It’s not going anywhere.”
Hold fast.
made me chuckle, nice one mate
name a shrub after me........something prickly and difficult to eradicate.....

This is the musical selection for the final scene of the movie Master and Commander. I hear it and I can't stop smiling.
I am beating to quarters on HMS Suprise

Thanks to each of you for an inspiring rendition. I have always wanted to play a stringed violin/viola/cello (piano player) but now more than EVER!!!

Amazing what hearing a favorite piece of music-not heard for years- does to one
It does, does it not?
a real joy! stunning for 1780!
I most heartily concur!

That's the reason why I'm here, haha!
I agree, nevertheless, all the opus is great.

@@nicolascruz4009 I've been listening to his music now for many years. I listened to the beautiful Stabat Mater sung by AgnesMellon on Good Friday
