- Chinese Grammar - Chinese Tenses: Express Past, Present or Future Events in Chinese
As we all know, Chinese doesn’t have different verb conjugations to indicate periods of time, so how does someone know that you are referring to something happening at different times? In this episode, let’s talk about how to infer the event time when an action takes place.

VERY eye opening, unlike others saying that there is NO TENSES IN CHINESE, they just cause confusion! THANK YOU A LOT, you present the structures as I do when teaching English😁😁😁
taking notes and studying a video like this can take someone a long way! Way to go Everyday Chinese!
你是对的。you're right!
I love the videos of this channel! Very professional!
I would like to mention that "Guo" is used to mark present PERFECT tense.. So, yes something which is DONE, but in the VERY PRESENT time.. It is not past tense.. ! Thanks for the otherwise very useful learning.. a little quick explanation of the sentences would be very helpful for Beginners like me ! 🙏
Sorry for picking a nit, but, at 11:40, huá bīng (滑冰) is not skiing (huá xuě); it is skating.
Thanks for correcting, LarghettoCantabile.
@SomeoneYDK 餘實恩 Thank you, though one must almost feel bad for indicating it, because let's be honest, they make a really good job. To me it's not so terrible considering how much I am learning and I am happy you pointed it out because it helps this WONDERFUL Chinese team to find possible hidden errors. We are all not perfect, don't worry Chinese team, you are still fantastic! :D
🙏🙏🙏
quite some HSK 3 vocab, awesome overview!
非常感謝ni的努力!
💟
wonderful way of teaching! thank you so much for the videos.
👌🏻👍🏻
I was looking for this video since a long time, thank you very much

会 to express future indicate that something definitely do or express probability
Excellent video....thank-you
Hello teacher, do we need to add “hui” in a future sentence, like this : Mingtian wo qu Beijing, or Mingtian wo hui qu Beijing? Which one is correct? Xiexie Nin!
Thank you so much
Very sad that the writing is too small, could you make it bigger please 🤗
Thanks for your suggestion, Eva.
This is the most useful video I've found on this subject so far. Very good.
thank teacher 😊
But I have a question yet, can you tell how to make the past perfect please 🙏 or if that is in the video, mark here the minute
Because if it is in the video I didn't notice maybe for me to be a english non-native speaker
Outstanding video thanks for sharing.
太好了Crystal! This is the clearest explanation of action timeframes I have seen in my four years of studying. Thanks for another fabulous lesson. I also love the video you did last year about real everyday greetings versus 你好/我很好。🥰
You are welcome, Stephen. 😊
very clear and comprehensive. thank you very much!!
多谢谢老师您的帮助。。。我们都很高兴学汉语跟您。。。爱您😘😘😘
Very useful for the "lower intermediates"; well organized, few errors, very well presented. (And the background banjo is a nice touch.) Thank you very much!
Glad you liked it, Peter.
BEST! YOU ARE SUCH A GREAT TEAM, DOING ALL SO PERFECTLY!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I WAS WONDERING ABOUT MANY THINGS THAT WEREN'T CLEAR YET.
對!中文沒有時態,為什麼要有所謂時態?多X餘
That's amazing!很简单,谢谢你,老师🌹🌷🌼🌻🥀。but I don't get why 现在 is not in the 2nd part. It also indicates that the person is in the process...
The word "现在" can both indicate a present state or an in progress state. For examples.
1.我现在是汉语老师。(I'm a Chinese teacher.--present simple tense)
2.我现在在看电视。(I'm watching TV.--present continuous tense)
Present, past and future tense in english is very vast and also many branches...so I have confusion about chinese tense...thanks for making clear it in simple way...I thank tense in chinese is easier than english.
Agree with you, Subash. Expressing tense in Chinese is easier than English, only need to master more words.
17:34 I don’t mean to be picky, but isn’t it HE is going abroad ? Because the character is 他 not 她.
Thanks for pointing the mistake, Jams.

Excelente.Obrigada.
This is really helpful, but i recommend for you to use the same words in your examples so that beginners would recognize wich is wich, having to search all the words im unfamiliar with when i am solely here to master the tenses is impractical
The writting is too small. I can't read it
Thank You!This channel is amazing
Very excellent lesson I understand very well and I improve
Keep up the great work
what about the conditional (english would). How to express that.?
谢谢你 I want this video
Who says “I’m sleeping” ?🙂
When someone call you at midnight and ask whatcha doing.
烏墨蘭 In that case you would say “I was sleeping” 🙂
Very good video, but i can't get my eyes off her riped hoodie :)
哈哈哈😂😂😂
Thanks but I think 离开 means to leave, to departure. Live is the right one for saying " where do you live?" When "are you gonna leave?" Is different. To leave and to live, they sound the same but they r different
Wow I just discovered this channel! Is amazing!!!! Thank you!
Glad to hear that!

Thanks a lot mam
太好帮助!
You are more than beautiful lady. You made such a hard thing easy for us.
❤❤❤❤thanks
HAY!
amazing video
Good job
Thanks
This video is shorting but clearing for everyday use.
it's perfect ! but please stop to looping that little music in background, it makes people crazy after few time
Thanks for your suggestion. We've removed music in background in new videos.
RECENT AND PAST STUDIES,HAVE FOUND BACKGROUND MUSIC,CAN ENHANCE FOCUS,MEMORIZATION,WHICH ,INDIRECTLY,BOOSTS MEMORY FORMATION,BUT NOT FOR SOME INDIVIDUALS, THIS IS A GREAT WELL DESIGNED PRESENTATION SAD YOU DELETED THE MUSIC,WHICH WAS VERY FAINT BUT FOR US REALLY. HELPS FOCUS
AT OUR LOCAL LIBRARY MANY , MANY,STUDENTS BRING HEADPHONES TO THE STUDY AREAS AND LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILST THEY STUDY.AND THEY ARE LARGE STUDY AREAS
ppppppp
谢谢 ❤

所以老师你是乐平人吗,
我再次说,这视频非常有用
非常有用。谢谢你
Why in minute 13:33 use the particle LE for a future action?
了(le) is not only for the past. When something is about to happen, you can also indicate this using 了 (le). Normally it is paired with a 快 (kuài), 快要(kuàiyào) or a 要 (yào).
Thank you for the wonderful video
真有用的视频。 谢谢!
Thanks a lot :)
You're welcome!
谢谢你, 但是你为什么说"完了"呢? 我做了作业怎么样?不可以这么说吗?
“我做了作业” 这句话本身是对的,但只表示“做作业”这个动作,不表示已经“完成作业”这个结果。表示已经完成的事情,我们通常会用“完”这个词,比如 “做完作业”, “看完书”, “吃完饭”, “打完篮球”, “洗完澡”, 等等。
@@EverydayChinese 这样! 明白了, 谢谢你。 你教中文很好。
Great lesson 👍
Please add confusing words or similar pronunciation words with examples, Thanks a lot

Can we use 了 with all the other past time expressions too?
了 has many usages in Mandarin Chinese. It is not always used in the past time expressions.
