  • This is the third part of the "FROM OLD BIKE TO E-BIKE" project video. In these very stressful days, I thought that it would be nice to start a project that is pretty well just for fun. It helps take my mind off of all the suffering going on all over the planet. Installing most E-Bike kits is pretty straight forward but there are some pitfalls to avoid, so I hope that you have as much fun watching this video as I have had producing it. Be safe and isolate!

Very good chance that older battery is composed of 18650 cells, the type they've been using in laptop batteries for 10+years. Fairly easy to replace (and very cheap now), or, if the case can not be opened without destroying it, you can assemble a new battery yourself. I'd bet there are new batteries already assembled that you can buy to replace it (may need to replace cable ends) if you don't want to mess with building one yourself.

I have enjoyed this series of videos. Great job on this project!
I do have a question: does this e-bike do regenerative braking (i.e. recharge the battery, contributing braking power, when activating the bicycle brakes)? Given that it has to sense when the brakes are activated, it looks like a relatively low-hanging fruit.

Did you use the file you showed us how to sharpen in one of your past videos? Haha :)

I've been considering one of these kits. I'm older than dirt so speed isn't required. Round trip to my shop is about 25 miles. It sounds like there would be plenty of battery range. Thanks for the video.
