I remember, as a child growing up in London, England, my father took the family to Norfolk Broads where we met a man who had a Punt Gun. It was larger than the one used in this video. He told us that it had to be well hidden during period of time due to it being an ill-legal weapon. When it was to be used, it took a long time to load, always before starting the hunt, as there were no shells made at that time and he used any small pieces of scrap, or other stuff, such as ball bearings to load into it. It could only be used once during a hunt, usually either at dusk or dawn, and could kill up to 300 birds at a time depending on the size of the raft he shot at. I visited him many times while in the Royal Navy, but sad to say he died and I cannot recall his name or what happened to his weapon. Apparently, it had been in his family from the time it was manufactured, a long time ago, and was still in good working order, as I saw more than once. It could never be used from the shoulder as it was too big and the recoil extremely powerful so that it would probably have dislocated, or broken, a shoulder, at least.

But he's correct; I've run a few hundred pounds of shot and slugs through my 12 gauge shotguns. The ones delivering the most muzzle energy (which will consider the mass of the projectile and the speed) are the ones that kick the hardest; two-ounce turkey loads are pretty stout, but I can shoot them all day if needed. Deer slugs aren't as hard-hitting. A pump or break-action kicks harder, in the same way that a bolt-action rifle kicks harder, than a semi-auto. They needed to show the function of the movable folding thole pin on the gun. The boat had a hole in the bow and appeared to be reinforced. He described a "mechanism" that it fitted in to. The thole allowed for elevation adjustment and just a little leeway for drift ( not much, though a broach from the recoil could be enough to overturn the boat.) Also, market hunters would use gravel, old nails and metal scrap to more broadly scatter the load and kill more ducks and geese.

My old dad used one of these punt guns on the Norfolk Broads in the UK for shooting rafts of duck....with great success
that's a cannon
They needed to show the function of the movable folding thole pin on the gun. The boat had a hole in the bow and appeared to be reinforced. He described a "mechanism" that it fitted in to. The thole allowed for elevation adjustment and just a little leeway for drift ( not much, though a broach from the recoil could be enough to overturn the boat.) Also, market hunters would use gravel, old nails and metal scrap to more broadly scatter the load and kill more ducks and geese.
What would a 1 gauge shotgun look like? Lol
i think a artillery gun
Destens 2 Probably.
wolflover1000able by definiton, a lead ball weighing a whole pound would fit in the barrell
hunger993 Well then...
It would be called one pounder.
I use a sawed off barrel, stockless 2-gauge for home defence.
thats suicide.
Sure ya do.
buyUSA9808 Like i said, its suicide.
yea.
"You invade my house, I'll destroy my entire house with shot!"
Who here is from infographics?
who needs a motorized boat when you have a 2 gauge shotgun
0.o that thing is a fucking monster!! Dont use for home defense. Youll erase the body, along with half your house lol.
Guns for cancer. That's awesome
Crash Fistfight It is a good, but pointless cause....I know I am going to get hate for saying that but it's the truth. There are over 260 types of cancer, each is able to change and keep changing, curing cancer (unfortunately) today, as it stands is an impossible task! :-(
geez, you'd vaporize the bird. lol
We currently own both of these guns, and they are infact both 4 Gauge. The underlever breechloader weighs 21 lbs, and the muzzleloader with the oarlock weighs 32 lbs!
Sjot a magnum round with my 12 gauge and my handwriting looked like a drunken spider fell in an inkwell and crawled across the page.
"Nice antitank rifle"
"It's for duck hunting"
O_O
I once held a 3/4 gage punt gun. Barrel about 4 inches in diameter but 3 feet long.
Doomguy is drooling for that gun
Holy crud I’ve heard of 8 gauge goose guns but never a 2 gauge punt gun 🤯😳 can you still purchase them ?
Think they were outlawed. You could take out a whole flock with one of these. Its basically a cannon.
I like how the already big guns just keep getting bigger and bigger in the old still shots. Unbelievable
If anyone is curious, this is the precursor to a cannon, literally a step down from a 1 pound projectile cannon.
I saw a 2 gauge when I was a kid. It was hanging on a wall in a pawnshop in Kennett, Mo.. I have never seen another one since then.
was kind of expecting the boat to start skipping across the water after he pulled the trigger XD
Mount that on a car and you got yourself a homemade tank!
I don't quite understand ... you get a bunch of birds at once ? What kind of shot is in there?
The first time I saw a 2 gage shell was the first time I held a shotgun. The guy explaining the shell diffrence said "these were made to take out changing Rhinos." 🤣
boat mounted punt guns we're responsible for annihilating entire specifies of birds because they were so effective. Basically flak cannons lol
This video is essentially an audio file and the visuals look like it would appear to someone who was legally blind in both eyes.
