There is a sequence of a cow being airlifted to safety in Apocalypse Now. I think the cows are in reference to that. The games atmosphere draws a lot of inspiration from that movie I think.
And the reason why that scene is in the film is because it's real. This really happened in the Vietnam War. BUT that doesn't stop us from imagining the whys and wherefores about the details as relates to the world of the Forever Winter. 😀
Who's making the balloons? It doesn't seem like something Europa would dabble in. More Euruska/ Eurasia's vibe. The concept of Eurasia nabbing cows for resources (biomatter, incubation, organs etc.) from Europan controlled territories seems to be my go-to theory, and would explain why neither faction wants to shoot them down on sight; Europa needs the food while Eurasia is in the process of heisting the bovines.
Personally I figure its just part of one of the many AI run factories. One for the Cows, One for the Ballons. Both making them because that's what they're programmed to do. Maybe long ago they were under the umbrella of Europa but now they just pump out cows and balloons and ship them out to the Meg-Cits regardless of the state those cits are in.
Wouldn’t make sense for Europan to have cows if they need to eat their own corpses. It’s likely Euruska shipping cows to establish a point for renewable food on colonised land. Their goal isn’t to win but to kill as many as possible for as long as possible.
There’s something else I don’t think people think about; the side-effect of ‘fertilizer.’ I mean how else does it show up everywhere? It might be one last program put in place by the original coders as a roundabout way to try and ‘save the earth’ or something by spreading fertilizer to more areas than just farms.
My personal head-cannon and what seems to possibly fit with what we see: They are Euruskan psychological warfare weapons. Cows can be pretty loud, the "balloons" all fly pretty low. Eurasia and Eurska have a high reliance on bio-enhanced or fully cybernetic troops that likely would ignore or not be affected by hearing this. Europan troops are almost entirely just un-altered people. They also tend to appear during low points in battles by my observation and do tend to fly towards Europan lines.
@Killpo1 yo i bet everyone has forgotten but we actually have a Butcher/ Meat factory in one of the promotional posters of the game - it's the one showing GunHead (middle) Scav Girl (foreground) and Mask Man (background) and they seem to be making their way through upside-down hanging skinned cow carcasses. Makes me think we might have some interior spot on one of the future maps where we will actually see who's harvesting the cows? Food for thought.
That intro is so good, knowing where its going. Awesome. I literally examined this a day ago and youre intro absolutely captured the feeling I had when I witnessed them coasting overhead.
For why the devs put the cows in I’ve been running with the outside the lore theory that it’s the devs showing war coming full circle, in the time of stone, copper and bronze cattle raids are what could first be called a war, and in the time of mechanical horrors, humanity’s been reduced back to cattle raids, I mean how valuable would a cow be to say the euruskans who’re stuck on another continent with out a supply chain
Energy efficiency isn't as important as nutritional content Meat/dairy have a massive bioavailability for humans are essential to human diets. Although going back to the energy angle, the number of calories needed to get your protein requirements from meat/dairy protein are much much lower than from plant sources
4:53 the rumen, the largest of the bovines stomachs, can hold up to 50 gallons (~189 litres). Hydrogen lift = 0,189m^3 (volume)× 1.202Kg/m^3 (aproximate hydrogen density) ×9.8m/s^2(gravity acceleration) ~2.23 Kg×m/s^2(Newton). So if you filled the cow's stomach with hydrogen you'd get an additional ~0 2Kg of lift!
One thing apart from the resource value of these cows is also to remember there are cultist you encounter in the game at some point. Not only that, society has become religiously confused and demented in the belief of a dark technological messiah especially in the less held together areas like the Innards where it’s nothing but survival, when you have many of the mechanized machines and cybernetic robots around they are also worshipped also involving sacrificial biomass (such as the cow carcasses when praying to the rat king, or the nurturing mother courage) cows are also marked as a holy sacred symbol in South Asia such as India for many reasons. This would draw the desperate and dark world itself to have a special connection and ideal image of the significance of these cows.
A lot of the AI factories are underground / far away and seem to be autonomous in nature, doing what they were programmed to do, with this programmer possibly being forever ago. These cows were probably a ways of feeding cities, but this was never changed with time. Front lines move back and forth but the cows were always sent out to where they were originally suppose to go, though the infrastructure to recieve them lost or in a perpetual state of being torn down by war.
Apparently there were some more recent bovine extractions n i don't feel like searching for it😂😅 but! They specifically did meme this from "apocalypse now" but they(AN) got it as it was something seenduring the Vietnam War. If I'm correct, it was to "save resources," i.e., they needed food, and beef has always been a luxury protein as they are extremely expensive to raise and care for. Please kindly correct me if I'm wrong/mixing stories! 😊
It's about opportunity cost. Those pastures that feed cows, and the water used for those cows? Incredibly less efficient if you just used that land to grow wheat, or rice etc etc. Sure we cannot eat grass, but we could use that land instead for a much more efficient way of converting the sun's energy into food via plants. This also doesn't consider the whole post nuclear war implications where there might not be giant tracts of grass / growable land outside of controlled enviroments. Even if you were in a closed ecosystem with cows you'd be better off giving them feed other than grass like corn.
Ok so my theory Cows are send to europa forces that have clear there current mission as a sort of care package The cow whole body is harvesting started by milking as must as possible to have something to drink or use for cooking Every meat, organs and bones is use to feed the soldiers The air balloons i image are fill with special made stronger gas that help it be quick and able to current it cargo to drop off to the soldiers waiting The empty ones are ether returning or may have drop the cow or alrighty delivered there cargo
tats wye i buyd it the creativity and the idea about this grous maschines who we haf createt and now become imortal and who is on the top ? or ihn the sky iland or town or wat ever the hell is ihn the sky. genius teori-
I dont know why you changed your way of speech and script writting with this, maybe a joke to the utter joke concept ''cow balloon' and how it would work with more descriptive words than corpses in a cyborg heap and stronk pronounciations on almost every 4th words but it didnt land for me. I couldnt even get to half of it.
Thanks for the honest feedback! Just trying out new things here and there. One of the main culprits I think is I didn't realize until well after recording that my noise filter wasn't on, making a lot of the words come out a lot harsher. But genuinely, thanks for the honest feedback!
Not bothering with this game anymore, 272 player as i write this, i think that early access was a mistake, i really like this game tho but i don't want to farm even more just in case it will be shut down.

The cows serve no other game purpose than to demonstrate the udder absurdity of war.
You’re getting fed to toothy now for that
@@kieranmilner4208 It was worth it.
4:14 love that you’re trying to keep it together while talking about the Very Serious topic of balloons carrying cows
We need a mission where you airlift a cow out mgs style
I'd love a mission where you hunt the cows and then make an offering to the Rat King in exchange for gifts.
Nice pfp
You're going to extract that one?
@@killpo_1 I'm sold.

In the grim darkness of the Forever Winter, there is only cows.

it's poop and rotting flesh put in bag i think. a lot of that to go around
@ probably true, but come on; crap-in-a-bag is easy to think of. Cow-pies from the sky are a much worse way to make your day go downhill.
When the cows fly....
I used to think the only things that flew were the tanks!
this is the kind of random unexplained easter eggs i would put into a game just for people to ask "WTF!?"
Maybe eurasia still sees cows as holy and saves them from battle or they maybe are brought to boost eurasian moral
I like that interpretation, gives more character to Eurasia which seems the most mysterious of the factions so far

finally the video i have been waiting for moooooooooove out of the way!
This might be my favorite Killpo1 video yet. I never thought a video about flying cows could be so… unsettling.

“Udderly” insurmountable! 😀
Pretty sure it's just a metal gear reference 😂

My favourite deep dive by far Bro. Sinister and hilarious. Interesting also
4:15 I can hear you crack. You did a great job holding the serious tone up until then. Don't worry the cow's kicking legs got me too.
Rat King offering us a skewered Orgamech might be a stretch, he is one of our vendors. But it's too early to say, anything could be a placeholder rn
2:39 I can hear you trying not to laugh.
What! Never! The topic of flying cows is very serious business!

I had theory that ballons are bio mechanical, didnt thought it could be birds. Curious where does those cows are from, are there farms underground ?

They may be feral cows harvested from the plains. Places that weren't nuked.
Maybe the cows are airlifted food for soldiers.
Something interesting i can listen to while i wash dishes! Thank you!
This whole concept should be called venus "flying" trap...
Moo 🐄
Well this was a descent into madness
This is so much more awful than I ever could have imagined. I love it

It's an Apocalypse Now reference
I love this video. When is cow ambiance?
But Yet The Cow FLIES
Because cows... Cows never change
Its likely: A) a supply drop, B) a decoy, or C) a AI gone mad.
So in our HUB the red spacemarine is an orgamech. Did not know this. Interesting.
Do the Euraskan mediums and orgamech
I don't get the efficiency argument. We can't eat grass. Cows can. So we eat cows. We also get dairy products from them.
It's about opportunity cost.
