I played the demo and "fell" into the ground 20 mins in, losing my equipment. Once im done playing what im playing playing now tho, I'll still probably buy it. Hopefully they work the kinks out.
B1 got CHUNKY!!! 14:15 the majority of modern design "fail safe" so something Chernobyl-like is unlikely. Also, have you SEEN the landscape? does it look like anyone cares about fallout?

I know you are spit balling but have the main generator/control in the cylindrical portion in front makes no sense. It would make much more sense as a ground radar scanning array along with the rest of the sensor suite.
Or a large ammo drum, centralizing hydraulics/control/power in one place is basically the glowing weak spot so maybe it makes sense gameplay wise.
Oh for sure. My theory I like the most is its just for hydraulics + doubles as a counterweight. and they just added the sensor suite on top because its great for anything ground level that might be below the mech's eyes. I add in that it could be a fuel / generator because honeslty it could be if they wanted that do to be it for some reason. If the mech does use fusion it would need assistance in start up and maybe instead of relying on external power that thing is a massive battery.

I thought Im pretty clear a lot of these are theories but maybe not. Fundog is absolutely trying to do the show not tell style of lore so you kind of have to piece together things from clues / what you can definitely tell is true like the use of Pilots for Europa which are absent for other factions mechs. Thanks though I'll try and make that more clear in the next video.

to be fair the devs could at least give the viper the proper 21 round capacity, like it is irl and technically the sand viper has an optic cut for the rmr footprint AND the 17 round capacity. if they wanna keep it the movie version Pit Viper thats fine just give the proper capacity. but if they gonna keep it the 17 rnder then GIVE US A DAMN OPTIC.
The inclusion of human pilots could be a technological gap as well. Eurasia and Euruska both rely heavily on cybernetics, which could include human integration into their mechs. Europa, bereft of the advancements of cybernetics, must rely on "simpler" methods. AI is great for strategic thinking, but can be limited by unfamiliar environments, which a battlefield is full of.

Y'know, that can between the mech's legs seems to me life it house the pilot, you can see periscopes on it, aas well as see a hatch, and it would make sense, kinda, since when trying to take out a mech, most people will try to aim center mass, so having the cockpit lower where it won't be hit as easily would be pretty smart
the pre-war europan culture of rejecting change in favor of overwhelming amounts of really just anything they need (except food) is super well reflected in this video, well done!

(Your name autocorrected to Kelp btw just thought I'd mention that) I've come to say that your videos on the forever winter we're really helpful for me in helping create a character and faction for the game! Your informative guides on the scavs, new player guide and other videos have been an amazing source of knowledge as someone interested in the game but unable to play it, and also attempting to write a character and faction (i should say the wiki and videos by riloe were also massive help) I just came to say thank you for these informative videos and if you'd like I'd love to share my ideas with you. I think that cylinder is the cockpit cuz those sensors look like viewports on tanks
No weight, no inertia, no tracks left behind... No storage containers for the scavenged things, dead bodies clip through. Very poor implementation.
Devs should add some kind of encyklopedia for the units of each factions.
Imo there should be a way to cripple the grabber. Like setting up IEDs and luring it into them would result in it losing a limb, making it incapable of using it´s grabbing attack (but that´s when it would never lose agro, not being the defaul), or hitting it´s joints with the anti tank to achieve the same effect (would give the weapon utility.). Or if we go with the route to make it killable then it should be a specific thing. Like for example: If it opens it´s face shield (either in combat or in an idle animation when passive) you could shoot the head inside which would kill the grabber. Meaning you´d have to either risk and engage it in a direct fight or stalk it until you find a good opening to take clear shot. But in turn that would cause euruskan forces to be on high alert and aggro a lot faster. In short, dealing with the grabber should be something you have to plan and prepare for. Sidenote: something that could also help in general is throwable grenades to use both as a source of damage and as a lure.

I came to this game from being a 40k fan as well as loving the overall aesthetic and feel - the similarities to the dark age of technology in 40k lore are great; Eurasia and Euruska strike me as factions that maybe aren't quite aware of just how much control and free will they've unwittingly given over to their AI systems, with the Europans fighting a (likely losing) battle to try and hold back the advance of sentient technology. The Europans won't put an AI in a mech, because they've seen what happens when a Toothy mech goes rogue and they're trying everything they can to prevent it. The mech's "rock and roll" hand gesture really gives me a "we die, but we die human" kinda vibe. Loving these videos too, would be neat to find out more about the Euruskan Cyborg and why it is always waiting at the damned pipe to murder me.
so Europa can't make AI something like BT from Titanfall 2 huh.
@@captainnutt2995 Would definitely be cool to find out more on the factions' views on AI, maybe the Europans tried something similar and it went wrong? I could definitely see an AI given "feelings" go nuts as a result of them.
the usage of scaled up firearms and emplacements being a nod to the tropes of mechs basically just being big robot dudes with big human guns while still maintaining a realistic and somewhat practical appearance is so dope. well done to the devs.

Oh man, the note you had about the IFF signatures at 5:45 sounds like something cool to purchase from the vendors to avoid being targeted by mechs, especially in those sprawling open ground maps.
I cant get over how weak the hip joints look
while those oversized versions of firearms are crazy, it would have been better to see creatively designed hand held weapons for the mechs instead of upscaling normal firearms. It feels a little lazy just recycling and upscaling them or maybe they're just placeholders?
This is a trend that pretty much existed since the dawn of Mecha anime and manga. You can see this in Gundam, Mobile Police Patlabor, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's more of a rule of cool factor than anything else.
i hope one day this game has a bestiary added. one that you still need to add the intel as you meet new opponents.

from what Ive heard, Europa is less technologically advanced then eurasia or euruska due to stagnation prior to the war. also most human leaders were killed in the opening stages of the war, all the armys are basically controlled by AIs who continue the fight without oversight

Europa seems to be the lesser evil of the three factions in my opinion. At least you did not get cyborg'd by your own government.

Yea, arguably. The Europans certainly don't cyborg their own conscripted civilians, then drop them out of automated bombers with nothing. They rely a lot on the human element of their armies, from what is shown. Euruska does this to a lesser extent for their own people, but they also don't have any problems taking advantage of Europa's reliance on soldiers given Toothy's secondary function.
@@fgp1505th well, my comment got deleted for whatever reason, so here it is : keep in mind that Europa can't feed it's population, so it's heavily implied they resort to the "recycling" of bodies to counter mass starvation. So, well, it's not that much cool and dandy with them either.

These unit deep dives are great! Loving the lore of Forever Winter.
The rat king is a heavily modified medium mech that was hacked by a scav, so likely it is proven that the machines are operated by a mix of an actual pilot and ai.
Hacked or hijacked? But yea, they can be stolen.
If possible in the future... I hope the devs will add more movement and actions to the Mother unit. At the moment she is just wondering around aimlessly unless you go near, or shoot at her. I would like to see some animations where she kneels down, digging in the dirt for spare cyborg corpses. And then actually lifts up the corpse and adding it to her ''armored plates'' so to speak.
I can’t wait for them to refine the Mech movement in the future. Their clunky movements sound good but they’re like figure skaters sometimes.
i think the cylindrical lower part of the mech chest is where the pilot sits, it has viewports on top.
We've seen on bit of concept art for a big mech. Image a mech sitting inside a quadruped mech with missle pods on arms hanging down. The thing really is a thingamajigger of a design.
