The kid is the baby she put inside a Moses basket & was lost down the river. She sings to him telling him that he’s part of something bigger as he has the blood of the motherland in him. He symbolic of the slave trade & African Americans who were put in boats & lost forever. In the second song, she’s saying find you back & hoping he’ll come back to the motherland, Africa. As each song leads into another, throughout this journey he encounters bullies, adversity, is mesmerized by certain things etc. The album is a love letter to Africa (hence its name: The Gift) & also touches on African Americans finding their roots. It’s why she mentions ancestors a lot & references her husband’s origin (Rwanda). One important thing also is she specifically embraces authentic African accents (not the usual caricature Hollywood ones) & even says she’s exotic. This is important because often speaking English with an African accent isn’t considered as cool as doing it with a French accent or German accent etc.

BLACK IS KING is pure art, it's beautiful and moving, it's timeless, it's cultural, Beyoncé's production is perfect, she really dedicated herself to delving into her ancestry and presented us with this wonderful film.
I remember how many people had an issue with the name “Black Is King”. 🙄 On the other hand, yes, this piece of art definitely deserves more acknowledgment, but in my head this has been created out of need to serve, honor and passion. It’s one of those pieces that is very impactful spiritually, and will make its way to the viewer who is READY to experience it. It’s not meant to be consumed by pop culture, because it’s above it.
If you look closely in the Already video, when she’s dancing in the black & white striped outfit, her heel broke off but she kept dancing & just held her foot as if the heel was still there. 👑🐝
@Juke Jams On The Other Side song, it's the story of Moses, being placed in a basket as a way to protect him, intertwined with the African beliefs that our ancestors watch over us and guide us in the afterlife. We believe we will see our lost ones on the otherside. Beyonce had a miscarriage a few years back, and she's saying goodbye to her child here and meeting her later in the afterlife ( In the garden wearing white). She's singing ," Mababu katika mawingu." That's Kiswahili saying, "Our ancestors in the sky." She's asking them to protect and guide her baby until they meet again. Beyonce is a genius 👏 🙌 I cry every time I hear this song
We were beautiful before they knew what beauty was” (Beyoncé, Black Is King 👑). A masterpiece genius that is black is king by Beyonce untouchable artistry.
No other artiest will ever out do what she has visually and cinematically done here. She is the bar and she exceeds herself with each new project. I just wish it would have gotten more recognition and the praise it deserves.
I rarely feel this way but you seem like a safe white man and I appreciate it as it’s often incredibly rare. Hopefully that’s who you are in person and hopefully that never changes. Thanks for sharing the vulnerability and authenticity.
The mansion you see is Sylvester Manor, built in the 1600s. It was a provisions plantation for the sugar trade from the Caribbean. Sugar was a huge commodity back then. And, the enslaved African Columbus brought there were forced to pick it.
Heard this in college and it has been my favorite album of hers to date. People barely mention it so I feel a little crazy sometimes, but I truly feel like this album encourages something deep within me every time I hear it.
Seeing what Beyoncé did with this masterpiece I always tell people be patient when it comes to artist like Beyoncé. Everyone wants the visuals to her latest work so fast and use to getting things when it drop. I know for sure when we do finally get the visuals it’s going to surpass this visually, her along with her amazing team know what they doing.
aww at 45:46 thank you for the compliment, from your Kenyan viewer. And the African countries they filmed at are Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. Also at 1:23:36 she's saying in Swahili 'mababu katika mawingu' which means 'grandfathers in the clouds'. Great reactions as always juke👏❤️
One of Beyonce most underrated album of ALL time, visually and musically! It was almost disheartening to see it didn't do as well as her previous albums. I feel this album will be appreciated in the upcoming future. Love your reaction as always my guy!

1:23:41 "Mababu katika mawingu". This is Swahili, meaning "ancestors in the clouds," considering this song is about us rejoining our ancestors one day. This whole song leaves me in shambles, but especially this part and how she sings it. I've lost a lot of close people in my life, and I hope to reunite with them one day when the time comes but for now they watch over me❤
I know you watched this movie, but I will also suggest you watch the individual music videos for The Gift. Much more detailed to the songs. First piece of info, The Lion King is actually loosely based on an African ruling family from the 1400 who were the richest dynasty. Beyonce is doing a retelling of the Lion King but with African influences. Song segments: BIGGER: At the beginning, with the blessing of the babies by the ocean...none of those babies were hers. Her characters throughout the movie is the African Goddess Oshun (either all in white or all in gold). She is the Goddess of fertility and a protector of children. The guy who's body is painted in a teal body paint is like a guide that stays with Simba. Although, she filmed a lot in different parts of Africa, that beautiful waterfall was shot at the Grand Canyon. It is protected and she had to get a blessing to record there by the indigenous native tribe. FIND YOUR WAY BACK: the women dancing on the sand. The song is self explanatory. Go out into the world, but... "Find your way back" to your roots. DON'T JEALOUS ME: This would be Scar luring Simba into being around the shady dangerous crowd. Scar is very jealous of Simba, so he tries to corrupt him and steer him off his path. "Lead or be lead, ashtray." MOOD 4EVA: At the beginning where you said you heard the music in the background for Hakuna Matada...that was an actual African song that Disney sampled from, but never paid the artist their royalties. When Bey used it, she did pay to use it. This is Simba day- dreaming under a shade while trying to escape the desert heat. The little girl in pink is supposed to be Nala, his future queen. Btw...the "Forever, ever, ever?" Was a throwback to Andre 3000 in "Sorry, Ms. Jackson". Notice in JADA: He is hamming it up with a good time, hanging out with a multitude of faceless women and shady guys as if having the time of his life....but it's all an illusion to keep him from his destiny. If you look past the glitz and lights of the ride he's rolling in, you'll see it's a hearse. Hearses are to carry dead people in, so he's on a path to nowhere but maybe an early grave. Beyonce in the back seat like a watcher to have him heed the warnings. ALREADY: is the point of the movie when he has to decide to step into his essence and be the King he needs to be. Beyonce is dressed in a Teal outfit and the ground is meant to look like she is walking on water. She is dressed in the colors of the African Goddess of Water, Yemeye. Water is the most important source for life, to aid in growing, protecting, influencing and prosperity. WATER: definitely one of my favorites on the soundtrack. I love this one, and it makes me wanna dance, instantly. BROWN SKIN GIRL: That one is obviously an uplifting song of self acceptance, when we (especially bw) are made to feel less than. Unfortunately, people got up in their feelings and made it a colorism thing. There were videos made with toxic intent, like : "Light Skin girl" video. They separated themselves from the collective by going with the damaged mindset of the colonized. Baby Blue won a Grammy for being on this song. I see no problem with setting your kids up for a prosperous future. That's a royalty check she'll get later on in life, and I'm not mad at it. THE OTHERSIDE: Gets me in the feels. Again, at the end in all white, she is the Goddess Oshun receiving the child in the calm waters of Heaven, surrounded by all the children in heaven. The man surfacing is supposed to be Simba rising up after serving his reign and then being blessed to rejoin his father in heaven. I also believe the baby being lost to the Nile was a tribute to Beyonce's child that she lost. That she will rejoin with that child on the Otherside, someday. MY POWER: is where Simba decides to return home and fight Scar. This is another of my favorites. ABSOLUTELY GETS ME GOING! SPIRIT: Definitely a beautiful song, which was a play on the song done by Elton John's Circle of Life as a way to keep the element of the original animation tied to the newer one the did. The part with her singing in gold with the choir in purple was a tribute to Kobe Bryant. The track playing at the credits roll was called BLACK PARADE. Good dance or foot shuffle song. Great reaction, as always.💜👑🐝
Massively under-appreciated, and underrated. One of her best works and eras. I still can’t believe how many people do not acknowledge this album and film. If this came out today, it most certainly would have received the praise and impact this body of work had on the world and her fans.
Brown Skin Girl (Song and visual) makes me cry like Pretty Hurts. Growing up so thin, petite, brown skin, small young Asian girl, I thought I was ugly bcoz I am not talk, not white and not thick as how a woman should be. I'm glad that I grew up with the right people who instilled in me better how to love myself and look at myself beautifully regardless of skin color, height and weight.
She dropped this the year George Floyd passed (a few months after). And she made an Instagram post when she dropped this where she mentions how this visual has much more of an impact to the black culture 🖤🥹

Tiwa Savage is sometimes called the Beyoncé of Afrobeats. She has a lot of great songs. So does Yemi Alade (in 'Don't Jealous Me' video). They're two massive artists in Africa. Yemi especially is a workhorse, just releasing banger after banger, album after album!
Found Your Way Back is my SONG!!! A lot of aspects of the album and visuals is what is called Afrofuturism. Which is a art style, sound, movement. Is the aspect of African culture and art in the future. Jenell Moné and Erykah Badu are other artists that incorporate it.
This made me remember how excellent this movie was, so incredible. Remember watching it with my sister and being blown away. Let me stream Black Is King again!
I know everyone in the comment section has the same feeling but Damn I can’t stress enough how much this album is underrated!!! The songs, the collaborations, cultural emphasis, costumes, storyline, cinematography, and the dancing was just out of this world!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ she can do a whole tour with this album, it would probably be her most vibrant tour ever ‼️ on Behalf of All my Africans thank you. We really do have a beautiful vibrant culture & people ❤️❤️

9:25 I agree, Africa is gorgeous and I think the majority of this film was filmed in Africa but this particular waterfall shot is near the Grand Canyon. I wanted to go there when I visited but it’s an ordeal
Fyi there is a documentary about this. It is called "Making of the Gift". In case you are interested on how she worked in this project. As you can imagine this was a lotnof work. The doc is on RUclips ❤❤ love your reaction man
I loved this album. I also thought the baby she placed in the water was in reminiscence of the child she lost. She said “I’ll see you on the other side. She placed the baby in the Nile. She referenced water being represented by many things. Nile runs through her body. Kendrick as representation of a lover “one time I took a swim in the Nile. He turned that into 3 different things like he does. And yes we would love Tiwa Savage reviews, love her. Also, Yemi Alade who was also on this album. She was the first artist I ran across 10 years ago when I first started listening to African artists.
I would like to say thank you🙏🏼 the first time I saw you reaction it was to Cowboy carter, and I fell in love with your kindness! Your eyes are always full of love! You are such a good person, I can see it. Thank you for that. I really enjoy watching your videos❤️❤️ Watching you from Russia👋🏼

We love us and we love you for all of the love! I wouldn't call it envy so much as admiration. With the way you speak, I can tell you were raised by some compassionate, loving women. Mama raised you right. You're always invited to the BBQ! 💙
Thank you Nicole 💙
When you start a family you can ensure that your kids don’t feel judged
you're such a king man... respectful and invested, we must protect you at all costs
Watching Black is King fills me with joy & awe Everytime. So glad you got to experience this masterpiece
This is a beautiful masterpiece⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ the song "The Otherside"Beyonce was talking about her miscarriage 🥺☹️ then it she overcomes I still watch this beautiful body of work often♥️♥️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yesssss! ❤️ Can't wait to see you dance 💃🏼🐝 Love this 🔥
Oh you dropped the reaction!!! Let me watch right now before they take it down 😊
This is for sure the Best reaction for BIK. Congratulation for your videos and your way to respect everyone and everything.
Wow, thank you so much! 🙏
We really do have a beautiful vibrant culture & people ❤️❤️
Beyonce's best BODY of work hands down
Hard to disagree. Breathtaking visuals and dope music
The Jay & Nas fued started in 99 and ended in 2005. They've been cool and made music ever since. Fun fact Nas was Bey & Solanges favorite rapper growing up
9:25 I agree, Africa is gorgeous and I think the majority of this film was filmed in Africa but this particular waterfall shot is near the Grand Canyon. I wanted to go there when I visited but it’s an ordeal
Fyi there is a documentary about this. It is called "Making of the Gift". In case you are interested on how she worked in this project. As you can imagine this was a lotnof work. The doc is on RUclips ❤❤ love your reaction man
you NEED to react to EVERYTHING IS LOVE
This album/movie was such a great project. Deserved so much more recognition
Good job, Jake. I’d like you to react to the making/behind the scenes of this movie. It’s only forty minutes long and you’d find it here on RUclips.
Yes! @JUKEJAMS Please react to the making of! ❤
I would like to say thank you🙏🏼 the first time I saw you reaction it was to Cowboy carter, and I fell in love with your kindness! Your eyes are always full of love! You are such a good person, I can see it. Thank you for that. I really enjoy watching your videos❤️❤️
Watching you from Russia👋🏼
The alright dance and claps so off beat but adorbs.
Love the reaction!
I hope one day everyone will truly appreciate this film bc it is still overlooked and under-appreciated
6 Inch/Haunted live performance on Tidal is everything
Such an overlooked film. I love it every time I watch. Thanks for sharing your reaction to this masterpiece!
This visual album was shot in Beverly Hills, South London, a predominantly Black section, throughout South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and Belgium.
Also, in NYC
as you saw this project was objectively a masterpiece...fan fact for you in case you didnt know Bey and Blue danced to the song My Power on her tour...and if youre patient enough i would recommend to watch the whole tour ...i know its long but im sure youll love it for many reasons my guy!
Beyonce has ALWAYS DELIVERED, THOSE WHOM MISSED IT, OR JUST PLAIN IGNORANT, I REALLY FEEL SORRY FOR THEM😢.....BECAUSE EVERYTHING AND EVERY ALBUM ARE INDEED STELLAR!!!❤
Her best film and storytelling.
I love how into it you get and you just start feeling the beat and dancing! Fills my heart with joy ❤
This album was so beautiful and beyond underrated the visual was actually telling the story of the lion king was so thought out and relevant now
Key of the kingdom gets me every mf time!!!
Hearing my language Twi as part of a Beyoncé album never ceases to leave goosebumps on my skin! 🥹🤗
It was filmed in South Africa.
I don’t know if anyone has said this and or knew but if I’m correct “other side” is in reference to a miscarriage she had and that is only of my favorite songs and visuals on this project 😭💛
The baby she’s holding represents Moses she’s telling his story
But as it’s for the lion king it represents Simba
I heard it represents the baby she miscarriaged. In the white outfit that's her meeting them again on the other side
@@lolaBee9 yes ive Heard that too
You need to watch Beyoncé: Life is but a dream
This is my favorite Beyonce project.
this was such a beautiful body of work from her. so sad it’s so underrated
