    A Mondrian bathrobe? Sam is truly a fashion icon, from beginning to end.
    He also turned out to be an excellent vampire hunter, somehow a great bowman. In spite of his many fears, he was less afraid and more effective than Edgar and Allen, when it came down to it.
    I hope people find this movie years from now and marvel at the ‘80s fabulousness.

    This is one of my top 3 favorite movies of ALL. TIME. I watched it when I was waayyy too young to be watching it, and have loved it ever since. Funny story: I was in elementary school and sang the theme song in class one day ("thou shall not killllllll..."), and my very concerned teacher had to make a phone call home. My parents then had to explain it was from Lost Boys and not to worry about it...LOL.

    Star is played by Jami Gertz, who you will know from the episode of Seinfeld where she wouldn't share toilet paper with Elaine in the bathroom stalls. Jami is actually the world's richest actor (over $3 billion net worth), and she and her husband have a stake in the Milwaukee Brewers and are part owners of the Atlanta Hawks NBA team, among other investments. She's been the Hawks' draft representative a few times.

    This is one of my favorite movies, I'm sure I watch it at least once a year. It's so fun and campy and pure 80s! I swear every time I watch it, I learn something new. I was reading an article because it's the 35th anniversary and they talked to the cast, it was interesting to read how they filmed some of the scenes. Also Saxman...just learned that he played sax for Tina Turner and and toured with her. He also recently guest starred on Reservation Dogs and was playing the sax on the beach, singing and dancing!! Super random...have you watched The "Burbs? I don't know if I would qualify it as horror but it's a fun 80s movie with Tom Hanks and Corey Feldman. Great reaction and also love the commentary!!

    Great job again, Jay. This was definitely one of the multiwatched movies of my youth.... then I grew up. Watching it as an adult was heartbreaking because I never saw how bad Feldman's acting was. That is a big "me" problem but when I see things like this in movies I loved as a kid, I get shivers thinking how I looked up to his character and wanted to be him. LOL. Another "me" problem was the cover version of "People are Strange." I never noticed it until I already had gone through my Doors phase and it wasn't the original. But all in all, this still is very watchable. Mullets, leather jackets, motorcycles, carnivals, vampires, etc. Everything I wanted as a kid. LOL

    • @JayBondReacts
      @JayBondReacts  2 года назад +3

      Hahaha That's great though, looking up to Feldman! 😂 His bad acting is intentional in this movie at least but I know what you mean. I didn't realize this was a cover of People are Strange but ironically I first heard a different cover by a group called Twiztid which is much different, but I still loved.

    "It was all going to be so perfect, Lucy. Just like one big, happy family. Your boys... and my boys."
    This movie is a Peter Pan allegory. Max is Peter Pan, Lucy is Wendy, Michael/Sam are Wendy's brothers, the Frog Brothers are Captain Hook/Mr. Smee, and Star is Tinkerbell or Tiger Lily. Once you pick up on the allegory, it becomes a totally different movie. There's been sequels and a remake, but they never understood this concept and just become stupid vampire movies.
    Fun Fact: This was Corey Haim and Corey Feldman's first film together, which marked the start of a popular "The Two Coreys" trend in which Feldman and Haim starred together in a number of teenage films.
    Fire Stunt Fact: In the dinner with Max and the Frog brothers, Alan puts out candles with his fingers. Nobody told (Jamison Newlander) that he had to wet his fingers first, so he ended up getting burnt. In later takes, he dipped his hands in a basin of water before putting out the candles.
    Tourist Attraction Fact: Two men can be seen playing pinball the second time Sam visits the comic shop. The guy with the facial hair is Joe Ferrara II, who actually owned the comic shop Atlantis Fantasyworld. The comic shop has now moved location but is still owned by Joe. The new location of the Atlantis Fantasyworld comic book store, which was featured in the film still carries the original #1 issue of 'Vampires Everywhere' that Sam reads in the film. The comic was created only for the film, and its opening page is signed by all of the cast members from the movie. The owner Joe Ferrara II allows any shopper to hold it and take a photo with it free of charge.

    I remember this movie had a kick ass theme song which plays a lot, esp in the climactic scenes. but didn't recall it being played in the climax scene if you get my meaning lol. The vampire house attack terrified me as a kid, esp the lamp scene where he's looking for vampires. Stand By Me was based on a Stephen King story so technically a horror movie? Also, you probably have it lined up already but I'd also recommend What We Do In The Shadows, another vampire comedy, since this movie has probably some references for a lot of the scenes there.

      Stories sometimes take artistic liberties with "official" rules on things. Sometimes stakes kill vamps, sometimes only paralyze. Sometimes stakes must be wood, sometimes not (IIRC stakes used to need to be a certain kind of wood, but I could be mistaken). Sometimes vamps can't enter homes without invitations, sometimes that only alters their vulnerabilities.

    Sam (Corey Haim) had some really questionable posters in his bedroom, I was that age at that time and wouldn't have ever imagined a Rob Lowe poster anywhere.

      But did you notice where the highly sexy Rob Lowe poster was? On the closet door. Maybe they were trying to tell us something about Sam.

    Another overlooked Vampire film is John Carpenter's Vampires, with James Woods and Thomas Ian Griffith. It has a great vampire mythology.

    Worst part of the movie is where Cory Haim picks up the action comics and bends the spine. I cringe every time.

    Where do you place The Exorcist in terms of your top 10 horror movie list? My sister who turns 48 this July refuses to watch it, as well as my niece.

    • @JayBondReacts
      @JayBondReacts  2 года назад +1

      The Exorcist wouldn't even be a contender for my top 10. Good movie, don't get me wrong, but it's not one of my top horror movies. I don't think I could ever do a top 10 of all time though. It would be so hard.

    P.S. Jason Patric was supposed to play Morrison in that big movie they made 30 years ago. They yanked him and replaced him with Val Kilmer, a significant downgrade. I always thought Patric would have made a much better Morrison.

    I enjoy The Lost Boys but The Huge Flaw that I have always had with The Movie is Michael & Star's so called Love. There was absolutely no chemistry at all between the 2 & it was underdeveloped & sloppily written other than that The Lost Boys is a Good Movie. I personally prefer Fright Night (1985) which is a much smaller movie but a great vampire movie.

    • @JayBondReacts
      @JayBondReacts  2 года назад +1

      I agree with that for sure. That's why it caught me off guard that they were just all of a sudden making out and then sleeping together. I chalked it up to vampires being horny and perhaps even prior, Star using her glamoring on him in the first place. She was told that he was supposed to kill Michael, so perhaps she was initially mind controlling him to some degree to follow her.

      As a gay man, what I despise in movies is the obligatory hetero sex/romance for the protagonist. Not only do I hate it on principle, but often moviemakers don't even bother making it plausible... they're just checking a box of things that "must" be in a movie.

    I grew up in that town on the beach. Don't live there anymore but I sure miss those days. From what is going on now in California and that city has lost all of its charm and been overrun with left wing bs I am glad I am not there. Especially how expensive it had become

    Whoa, man, this was an amazing review! Your wit was top notch, "that stare down, and that stair down" 😂my first celebrity crush was Haim. So much so, I called a hotline number for him, with the hopes he would call back. My mom called me at my grandmothers house and said, "Hey, Katie, what is a..Corey Haim hotline and why is it 300 dollars?" OOPS. I highly enjoyed you reaction. Thank you!
