      So you know if not teld you down below. River was in the the 3rd Indiana Jones ,movie as a young Indiana. He died in his early 20s suicide which is sad due to the fact that he died young. Just like Jonathan Brandis another sad young actor died of suicide.

    Such an amazing film and the acting is...wow. These 4 kids carried 95% of the script with the talent of seasoned professionals. Imo Corey Feldman's best role. I still get teary over River Pheonix, gone way too soon, I adored him.

    I have always considered Goofy a dog, but think about it. There are a couple of classic Goofy cartoons where Goofy has a family. You never see his wife's face but she has human feet, and he has a pet dog named Bowser. So, if he has a pet dog, what the hell is Goofy?

    I've lost touch with basically everybody I grew up with aside from one friend. A couple of them died and the rest just moved on and have their own families and careers now. I have another friend that I've been close with since I was in my early 20s, and I'm now in my early 30s.... but nothing could ever replace the memories I have of the times I had with my childhood friends. I miss those days so much. I have a wife who was my high-school sweetheart and I wouldn't give her up for the world... but sometimes I do long for those simpler times. I really miss my friends a lot. But I guess that's just a part of life. I'll always cherish those memories until I'm old and grey, if I live that long.

    I had a crush on Phoenix when I was young. I identified with Gordie, an isolated intelligent dreamer. I SOO wanted someone like Phoenix to just put their arms around me and hold me. I was sad when I learned of his death, and cried when I saw that ending scene again of Chambers fading away.
    They did an homage to him in the video game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, one of my fav games. It's silly... I never knew him, but I had crushes on both him and Corey Haim in Lost Boys. It's sad that both of them died early, Haim most of all.

  • @cpmahon
    @cpmahon Год назад +14

    One of my favourite films, the acting and the story is excellent. The Chris/Gordie milk money scene just shows what potential River Phoenix had if he had not died so young.
    I loved the film as a young teen when it came out as it was kids being kids, apart from the body. Unfortunately it has a special resonance now as my best mate, when the film came out, died the year after Phoenix did. Sad as that was I always watch this film with joy. It makes me think of the fun times with him, just like the characters had with eachother.
    Thanks for the reaction, it was fun. I'm glad that you enjoyed your pumpkin pie, or at least half of it anyway!

I always wished I grew up in the 50's era, like these kids, but I would never give up growing up in the 80's. I don't think I would ever have gone looking for a dead body. Growing up in Montana, I can confirm that small town kids wandered far and wide on foot or bike growing up. In the country with cousins, we'd walk three or four miles to inspect old homesteads, one way. I walked 21 miles home from a mountain once when a car broke down, it took 8 hours of so for four of us. It was almost completely downhill, and we had smoke and drink so it went along pretty quickly, but I'll admit my whole body was achy when I some up.

      Nice, I've added it to my list. I'll be honest, the less reacted to a movie, the worse it does. I've tested the waters and been first or within the first few for about 5 videos and all of them have done terribly. 😂 (Vampire in Brooklyn, Jawbreaker, Valley Girl, Summer School etc.) I'm not big enough to influence the "react market" yet haha
      If someone like Popcorn in Bed did it, it's smarter for me to follow hers up because her audience would be looking for other perspectives. That's why you'll see that trend happen a lot. In the span of a month you'll see all 40 people talk about Forest Gump seemingly out of nowhere.
      Reactions are a weird game, I tell ya.

    My friends from that age turned on me once we went into high school. I guess i was deemed the less cool one. One of them didnt like how the other guys treated me and ditched them and stayed on my side rest of the year till he moved away across the country . I always hold a special place for him for sticking by me then, he said it was because I had stuck by him the year prior during an issue with the other guys. A few years back I discovered one of the other guys was posting blogs about things in his life, he spoke of how he and the other friend did me wrong. i wrote in comments about how they made me feel, both of them apologised to me.This is us in our late 40's now when this went down. I became decent online friends with them both.The one that instigated it mostly back then was the one I'd talk to the most, he and I would discuss music a lot. When covid came about he got it about a year and half ago and passed away from it. I still talk to the other "former" friend once in a while. I am really glad I made amends with them both, after the one passed i am glad I can think good thoughts and good memories and miss him instead of the hatred I felt all those years.

    The movie is a lot more optimistic than the Novella. In the Novella Verne and Teddy are long dead at the time When Chris gets killed and the aftermath of the confrontation in the restaurant. With the confrontation over the Body Ace and the gang they all get beaten up later on. Gordy and Chris get the worst of it with a broken nose, fingers and getting kicked in the balls for Gordy and Chris gets a Broken Arm and deep facial lacerations. Verne and Teddy get beat up but less severe. They all refuse to name names and the gang don't bother them again.

    This movie came out when I was 5. My dad and I watched it together (back then it seems like people weren't so paranoid about age restricting certain things in entertainment. Or maybe it was just my parents? 😆)
    I'm extremely sentimental about this movie. Even though I'm female, and I'm sure it would have meant something different to me if I was male, it still was really something that helped define who I became as a person- emphasizing values like loyalty (including to chosen "family"), loving people for the imperfect people they are, protecting those who need it, and standing up for what's right; Whether it's finding the body of a missing child everyone had given up on finding (that's why they think they'll be treated as heroes for finding the body) or standing up to a bully with a knife.
    The idea that doing the right thing is hard, but worth it. Even if it means you experience something terrible; Even if it means you might get hurt. Even if it means you might die.
    It was an important bonding moment for my dad and me.
    It's still one of my favorite movies.

    No, we weren't supposed to think that Chris died there. Richard Dreyfuss was an adult when he read the newspaper article and it said "Attorney Chris Chambers" was stabbed.

      It's a matter of perspective. As a brand new viewer, without prior knowledge of the events of movie stuff like "attorney" isn't the takeaway from seeing "name stabbed". This is my first time watching, so perhaps on your first viewing you saw things differently.

      I think most viewers don't fully register the newspaper story, or forget about it entirely as they become engrossed in the story, only to be stunned by the information when it is repeated at the end of the film. Of course, now, for those of us who know about River's tragic early death, the impact is much greater.

      @@oliverbrownlow5615 That may be, but I maintain that I doubt the article saying Chris was stabbed was put there in order to make people think that he would be stabbed by Ace Merrill.

      @oliverbrownlow5615 Год назад

      @@Ididnotwanttojoin No, I don't think it was. Jay's experience of gleaning from the headline that Chris was stabbed without noticing that he had become an attorney was unusual, but still similar to the typical one in that he didn't register the article's full significance until the end.

    I don't remember if I ever rewatched this afterwards.. but seeing scenes from it now I once again have to question the parent who thought it was okay to show this movie to me when I was in 4th grade.. though it did stick with me... more so perhaps because it was enough time after that River Pheonix had already passed, making the ending of the movie all too real for me.

    "Do you think I'm weird?"
    "Definitely."
    "No man, seriously. Am I weird?"
    "Yeah, but so what? Everybody's weird."
    Fun Fact: After director Rob Reiner screened the movie for Stephen King, he noticed that King was visibly shaking and wasn't speaking. He left the room and upon his return, told Reiner that the movie was the best adaptation of his work he had ever seen.
    Sky High Fact: Kiefer Sutherland claimed in an interview that in one of the locations of the film, a Renaissance Fair was being held and the cast and crew attended and bought some cookies. Unfortunately, the cookies turned out to be pot cookies and two hours later, the crew found Jerry O'Connell crying and high on the cookies somewhere in the park.
    Four Musketeers Fact: River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell got into a lot of mischief in the hotel they were staying in during filming. This included throwing all the poolside furniture into the pool, Wheaton fixing video games in the lobby so they could play them for free and Phoenix (spurred on by the other boys) unknowingly covering Kiefer Sutherland's car in mud, only discovering whose car it was when Sutherland confronted a scared and nervous Phoenix about it later.

      Great question. I don't know to be honest. I love the nostalgia of some movies that I've seen from back in the day but I think sometimes hearing about 80s movies that I haven't seen might hype many of them up a bit more than I'd like. Same happens with some modern movies, but knee jerk opinions are easier to ignore. I guess I enjoy good (or really bad) movies regardless of when they came out.
