Another fun review of a movie that I've never forgotten throughout the years. Happy you took the time to watch this, and a perfect summary of what this film was all about. Thanks! ^^
I brought this on my senior trip in high school and we watched it on the bus. No idea how I got away with that, especially with a priest onboard! We went to Toronto and stopped by Niagara Falls on the way home :)
After nerds, Brian Tochi played the Asian stereotype in the Police Academy sequels. Before Nerds, he starred in a short-lived TV show called "The Renegades", a cross between "The Warriors" and "21 Jump Street" in which his fellow Renegades include Patrick Swayze and Tracy Scoggins, who, as a Full Moon man, you must know. One of the cops they report to is Kurtwood Smith, from "That 70's Show" and "Robocop". The opening to the show is such a trip. Tochi was also the voice of Leonardo in Ninja Turtles.
This movie came out just as it was becoming apparent that nerds are going to take over the world. This movie was kind of a coming of age for nerd-dom. In this movie, the nerds were not there to be made cruel fun of, as they typically would be, they were there to take over. It was a cultural moment when it started to become OK to be a nerd.
Haven't watched this in decades, I was 13 when released, saw it at the cinema, taught me a lot. They had roombas, home surveillance, they accept, gay, black, female culture with robot food delivery. They do not judge weight they do not tolerate bullies, they spy on others ...always. Nerds own our now, they created everything we see, learn from and know... this was a visionary film, with Queen playing "We are the Champions" to close out. Nerds won!
Ok, as a Gen X'er, I watched this when it first came out. Watching this now with you trying to explain the "offensiveness" and make excuses about the stereotypes every 5 minutes really makes me happy we grew up in a time when people weren't ❄ babies. You don't need to explain. People just need to stop being triggered. This movie was hilarious!
I can't believe that the dad is the old guy from the Babe movies and Star Trek First Contact the guy doesn't get old he looks like he looks in those movies
Just found your channel yesterday with Better Off Dead. Just watched this one and watching Summer School and Porkys next. I absolutely love how you're doing these older comedies I grew up on. It's wonderful newer generations are watching these. I know they are a little crude for today's audience but it was perfectly acceptable in the 80s. Doesn't make it right but the culture and even society was conlmplely different. Keep it up. Nobody else is doing them. PS One Crazy Summer was also a good one with John Cusack and the guys who did Better Off Dead. Great flick even though those two hated each other after BoD. Has a young Demi Moore in it also.
Thank you! I actually planned to do One Crazy Summer this week, but thought maybe these kinda comedies were too close together, so I'll likely get to that one next week! Excited for it though.
Movies like this, were likely inspired by the 1979 movie, "Meatballs." Which is a movie that really doesn't work well in today. And actually weird that it was made, as alot of the content is questionable. But, it definitely is a product of its time. As many young people went to summer camps back then. Should check it out. It has Bill Murray in it. Its format certainly has many offsprings despite the nature of the film.
Anthony also appeared in How I Got Into College ('89) / The Client ('94 - directed by the late Joel Schumacher; with Jones, Sarandon and then-newcomer, the also-late Brad Renfro).
If you haven't seen "Iron Eagle" thats one of my favorite 80's movie. Starring Lou Gossett Jr. and Jason Geddrick. The actor who plays the gay nerd is in it, thats why this reminded me of it😍
Coach throwing his hat during his rally speech (NERDS!) is so fucking awesome. The way he just went for it in such a silly movie. As a kid, I was stoked when he popped up in Roseanne.
"How does he come from this to Goose in a couple of years?" Anthonny Edwards played stoner, nerd, loser, jock and cool in the 80s alone. He was never type casted. Quite versatile. Refs: Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Revenge of the nerds, Gotcha, High School USA and Top Gun.
I enjoyed this reaction. I'm approaching middle age and discussed this film with someone much younger than me who found offense to it all. I kinda never realized myself all the 'wrongs', in the film...but I don't think this film had any of those intentions. Just sign of the times in which a lot of these frat house movies were being made and just kinda pushed the boundaries of the fun taking place. It was taken as entertainment like watching Wile E. Coyote, it wasn't going to make you want to strap a huge rocket to yourself and go chase a bird.

I was born in 96. I saw this when I was like 14 and instantly loved it. It’s weird, it’s quirky. 80s movies have a unique charm to them that we just don’t get now with most mainstream movies. Everything now is very streamlined where as back in the 80s they would just throw random shit in but it worked 🤣 I love this movie, I think people are way too sensitive nowadays and can’t just take a movie as a movie, it’s a comedy and not to be taken seriously
This is one from the time that I did not watch until later, like 2007, so I never became familiar with it. A lot of actors in it showed up in other movies following it and they were better known for their characters in this.
Loved it, another great reaction my friend and I have noticed that you do indeed have some movie reactions that no one else has, just 2 suggestions to keep that trend if you react to The Three Amigos (1986) and Popeye (1980) that would be awesome, take care bro and I hope the new year is off to a great start for you.
Thank you so much! Three Amigos is definitely on the list and Popeye would actually be a fun one. I always liked the cartoons but not certain I ever watched the live action. If I did, I was far too young to remember anything hahaha
My sister, her friend, & I snuck into this movie at the theater. I had no idea what we were going to see. I loved it. I was 7. Although it may not have totally aged well, it's a movie that still plays in my household. I'm glad someone did a reaction to it. May I recommend Parenthood (Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Keanu Reeves), Real Genius (Val Kilmer), & Raising Arizona (Nicolas Cage, John Goodman)? Great movies I think you'd enjoy.
That's awesome! Thanks for those. Real Genius I'm gonna do soon and Raising Arizona is on my list too. I may have seen Parenthood but I'm not too sure. If so it's been sooo long.
I remember feeling very validated when I first saw this movie as a young teenager in the 90s. As a bespectacled overly-studious, shy, unstylish, pudgy, aspie 'nerd' myself (I think this was the first time I learned the word for it) who got picked on quite a bit by the popular kids. But I proudly embraced my nerdy qualities and, later on, found a similarly-minded group of friends. I think this movie probably had that effect on a lot of folks in similar situations.
Is it bad that a medic buddy of mine in the barracks and I were bored and took everclear 151 IV’s, using the medicine ports in saline bags we used to rehydrate soldiers that were dehydrated?
I saw this at least a couple times back in the 80's but it's amazing how much I forgot. I had no memory of John Goodman even being in it, lol. The movie is still enjoyable but obviously parts have not aged well; really enjoyed your reaction, it's always like hanging out with a friend and chilling.
I love this movie so much. Although I wasn't considered a Nerd I definitely wasn't a Jock or bully either. Me and my friends always defended the ones being bullied. Great message at the end great reaction. ✌😎

This was an interesting one. It was quite a phenomenon, in its day. Perhaps, because the concept is a little less groundbreaking, now, it has faded a bit. I really haven't seen many others reacting to this one. Also, maybe being a nerd doesn't have nearly the same stigma that it used to have. The stigma has changed, at least. I think there is still a stigma there, but for different reasons. For example, geekdom can give rise to passionate fandoms, that can reach toxic levels, sometimes. As for the stereotypes, perhaps they can be useful in this movie. The are used less to DISPARAGE people groups, but to demonstrate the difficulty that outcasts can face. The stereotypes may have been exaggerated, but mainly enough to make them distinctive and to represent certain mistreated groups. The movie is about these discounted groups finding common ground, and uniting. Through unity, they are able to gain respect, gain power, and prove their worth. Prejudice doesn't require much brain power or thought. Prejudice can be overcome with ingenuity. I think that's the theme of the film. I think your pre-assessment of the movie was pretty on target. Most movies of the era would probably follow the same formula, as you predicted. However, I think there were enough twists, to make the movie interesting & not so obvious that it insults the viewers' intelligence. Compare that to more modern "Comedies" like Disaster Movie, for instance, that spell everything out in a loud & crude manner. Modern comedies tend to stay barely a step above vintage cartoons, that stamp the word "Bomb" on a stick of dynamite. The movie wasn't really about gags. It had a story & took itself somewhat seriously, while still being light hearted. Well, you now have a further taste of the 80's. Once again, you tackled it like a pro. I look forward to what else you have in store for yourself & your viewing audience.
Nerd "dad" had the exact same laugh as his son.. hysterical....he is played by James (???) who years later was nominated for an Oscar for playing Farmer Hoggett in Babe and was also great as the police captain in lLA Confidential
Whoa, is that James Cromwell?! One of my favorite actors!! Anyway, I haven’t seen this for more than thirty years. It’s good to watch it because I remember almost nothing about it.
Poindexter is Timothy Busfield, later seen in "Field of Dreams", "The West Wing", "Thirtysomething" and "Trucks", an attempt to atone for "Maximum Overdrive".

Jay, now you are entering in a high quality franchise. 1:55 Today I learned Anthony Edwards (Goose) is the blonde Nerd. 😱 5:40 The alcohol industry uses a 200 scale so 150 is 75% alcohol. 25:45 You will see another gay character's comedy sequences in _Mannequin_ (1987).
The thing about Lamar is that there are indeed people that act like that in real life. He is also not being really made fun of for being gay, so imo its totally fine. Its also an 80s movie.
Jay, glad you're doing your own thing rather than chasing trends. Some of those other channels are looking downright incestuous, like how everyone was doing _Borat_ a couple weeks ago. I don't mind the stereotypes in this movie. They are all treated with respect, EXCEPT the Jocks. It's all treated respectfully and with love, and don't you lie and tell me you didn't tear up a couple of times.
Nerds and jocks both act like primitive screwheads in this movie. Some of the stuff the nerds do is no better than the stuff the jocks do. The jocks have the poorer attitude for sure, though. Also, I don't know for sure if this nerd versus jock animosity is authentic to reality. Granted, I might be saying that because I was more of a "freak" type of person (which might explain why Booger's muh fave), so that made me an archetypal wild card. I had friends (and enemies) from ALL "factions!" Anyway, nerds and jocks both tend to be achievement-driven go-getters, so why should they fight? Alphyne dynamic forever! 8:00 Probably a parody of the "Goat of Mendes" ritual of ancient Egypt. The goat wasn't the object of worship. It was the victim. 13:24 "You're nice!" 🤣 24:09 Was your other friend Seth Brundle?! 24:39 Lightweight. 27:01 It's not even a pie! It's just whipped cream! 30:01 Alphyne dynamic: '80s style! Gilbert's more of an Alphys-type person (gender notwithstanding) than Stuart, but whatevs. 32:17 He uses the phrase "beautiful people," but that moniker doesn't seem applicable to Ogre (who might have some hidden "nerd" tendencies, but not necessarily the stereotypical intellectual type of nerd).
Im here at the end of the video and you said make a suggestion, heavy metal it's an animated movie from like 82 it's epic and no one does a reaction to it.
Donald Gibb, right? Not just as Ogre & Ray Jackson - he was also in the Bouncer in Stripes / a guard of Osric in Conan the Barbarian / Mad Dog in Meatballs 2 (same year as ROTN) / a random ex-convict in Lost in America who picks up Linda / Larry in the infamous Transylvania 6-5000 / "Dr. Death" Krunchner on 1st & Ten / a convict in Hancock.
Finally! lol Loved it Jay. Don't know if you're interested in things like this but there's a cool video of the filming locations then and now out there on this one (he has many more too). It was cool to see these places now. Take care bud!
151 rum? Child's play. When I was in high school in the 80s I was doing straight shots of Everclear. It can only legally be 151 proof now, but back then it was 190 proof. I invented 2 different shots with it. The first: half Everclear, half Jack Daniel's in a shot glass. Tge Everclear gives the Jack an extra kick and the Jack smooths out the burn of the Everclear. The second: a 32 Oz glass of lemonade with 3 shots of Everclear in it, in another glass a mixture of vodka and Roses. Mix into a shot glass in a roughly 50/50 mix. Good stuff.

Exterior filming for Adams College was done at the University of Arizona in Tucson. My wife went to the U of A and the exterior scenes are all familiar to her. My brother-in-law was an extra in the walk away from the dorm when the jocks kicked out the nerds. He was wearing a burgundy robe.
"That Guy, That's Jefferson from 'Married, With Children' "
Yup, the actor's name is Ted McGinley
Ted also was on Happy Days, he started in Season 8, the Fourth Episode called Hello, Roger
@@SwiitKALEL Yup, if I recall correctly, he was a relative the Cunningham family
I was a 13 year old nerd when this movie came out, so I absolutely loved it. Still do. I wish people weren't so uptight about everything these days. People have no sense of context anymore. edit: I also had my 151 phase for about 2 years. I'm pretty sure it took 5 years off my life, but those last 5 years would probably be awful anyway so I've no regrets! 🤣
The whole point of a comedy is to relax and have fun. People read way too much into things.
Watchn along with you brings back so many memories.. just love Yoshiro and Lamar, they were just lovable characters..
Who played Ogre was also Ray in the film Bloodsport, he was the American Jean Claude Van Damme's character befriendeds at the tournament and was hurt extensiely by the villan character Chong Li..
Another fun review of a movie that I've never forgotten throughout the years. Happy you took the time to watch this, and a perfect summary of what this film was all about. Thanks! ^^
I love that you noticed little Wermser running into the arena as well!!😅😂🤣
One of the best 80s movies for sure.
Fun Fact: Booger's legendary belch was actually the sound of a camel's climax! I'm not kidding!
That's the weirdest bit of trivia. Hahaha
More mischievous then. 😂
I brought this on my senior trip in high school and we watched it on the bus. No idea how I got away with that, especially with a priest onboard! We went to Toronto and stopped by Niagara Falls on the way home :)
I knew I had found my people when you watched Porky's.... But this video solidified it... Love it 😂 🤣
Haha Thank you!
Haven't seen this in years... thanks for the reaction and for bringing it back.
When people were less aware they were hurting people with their prejudices. Corrected for you.
I can't believe that the dad is the old guy from the Babe movies and Star Trek First Contact the guy doesn't get old he looks like he looks in those movies
I love this movie never gets old. Great comedy
This is one of the greatest comedies of all time.
In the 80's everything was fair game. I love it!
16:48 "Damn, you Mus sure can party!" LOL

Movies like this, were likely inspired by the 1979 movie, "Meatballs."
Which is a movie that really doesn't work well in today. And actually weird that it was made, as alot of the content is questionable. But, it definitely is a product of its time. As many young people went to summer camps back then.
Should check it out. It has Bill Murray in it.
Its format certainly has many offsprings despite the nature of the film.
In the 80's I was the pot head with a Commodore 64, now days everyone wants me to fix their computer while they smoke my weed. :)
Hey Jay,
Anthony Greene, the actor that played Gilbert, also starred in another 80's movie titled "Gotcha" which you should definitely check out
I watched him forever as Dr. Mark Greene on E.R., but I also remember him from a few movies.
@@JemJam2976 likewise for me
I loved that movie Gotcha!
He even starred in one episode of SVU, and played a judge in an other law and order about something that happened in 93
Anthony also appeared in How I Got Into College ('89) / The Client ('94 - directed by the late Joel Schumacher; with Jones, Sarandon and then-newcomer, the also-late Brad Renfro).
If you haven't seen "Iron Eagle" thats one of my favorite 80's movie. Starring Lou Gossett Jr. and Jason Geddrick. The actor who plays the gay nerd is in it, thats why this reminded me of it😍
Oh cool, thank you! I liked him a lot. I'll look into that one!
@@JayBondReacts _Iron Eagle_ was the _Top Gun_ rival that year, _Iron Eagle_ opened in January '86 then _Top Gun_ next on May same year.
@@JayBondReacts you'll recognize bits of Iron Eagle from the pilot episode of Cobra Kai..
Coach throwing his hat during his rally speech (NERDS!) is so fucking awesome. The way he just went for it in such a silly movie. As a kid, I was stoked when he popped up in Roseanne.
Fun fact: Ogre now plays a viking in Capital One commercials.
"How does he come from this to Goose in a couple of years?"
Anthonny Edwards played stoner, nerd, loser, jock and cool in the 80s alone.
Well said.
@@JayBondReacts little tid bit since you like recognizing actors and actresses. Julia Montgomery (Betty Childs) went to Livingston High School, NJ and I believe she is in the same graduating class as Jason Alezander (George, in Seinfeld). The 2 supposedly appeared in HS plays together.
That's pretty cool! I bet there are so many interesting connections like that. Thanks for that.
Lewis' father is James Cromwell. He was the warden in The Green Mile and The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler, he was also in the movies Babe and Babe 2, he is also in the show Succession.
Poindexter is Tim Busfield. He was in the show The West Wing, the movie Field Dreams, and some episodes of various other shows like Entourage.
Booger is Curtis Armstrong who was in Better off Dead and Risky Business.
Ogre is Donald Gibb, he was in Bloodsport and Bloodsport 2 with Jean Claude Van Dame, Meatballs 2, Stripes, and various episodes of various TV shows (Such as Step by Step, Magnum PI, The Facts of Life, My Two Dads, Night Court, Quantum Leap, MacGyver, Cheers, The X-Files, Weird Science, Seinfeld, etc...)
Takashi is Brian Tochi, he was the voice of Leonardo in 1990's Teenage Ninja Turtles, Teenage Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. He was also in the movies Police Academy 3 : Back in Training and Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. He is also a voice actor in various cartoons (Such as Duck Dodgers, Family Guy, Kim Possible, What's New, Scooby Doo?, Johnny Bravo, Batman Beyond, Dexter's Laboratory, The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles..of course lol, Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo) and videogames (Such as Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, Tenchu: Return From Darkness True Crime Streets of LA, Xenogears, EOE Eve of Extinction, World of Warcraft, Saint's Row 2, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, The Darkness 2, etc...)
While there is some stuff that was questionable at the time and certainly hasn't aged well, I still enjoy the Revenge of the Nerds movies (can't remember if I've seen #4 though...). The sequel brings back the core crew and adds a bit of Courtney Thorne-Smith (from Summer School 😎).
Oh, that's sweet! Good to know.
And Bradley Whitford too...
Let's not forget Tom Hodges (from Lucas, which also featured Thorne-Smith as Alyse & Going Overboard, which featured a pre-SNL Sandler), James Hong (aka Kahn / Hannibal Chew / David Lo Pan / Dr. Hong / Yung / Jeff Wong / Li Peng / Chi-Fu / Daolon Wong / Mr. Ping / Gong Gong), and the late, great Ed Lauter (Captain Knauer in the original '74 Longest Yard and one of the golfers, Duane, in the '05 Happy Madison remake)!
"I don't believe this! I've got a trig midterm tomorrow, and I'm being chased by Guido the killer pimp." -- Miles Prebooger
Anthony Edwards would only make a short appearance in Nerds 2 and another actor plays Gilbert in Nerds 3 although I don't know to what extent he is involved since I didn't see it or Nerds 4. Robert Carradine as Lewis would continue being the lead character for the rest of the films.
“This is Sega CD’s night trap”
I thought I was the only person alive that actually played that lol
Hahaha Yes!! I only know a couple people who know of it. Back in the day it was Night Trap, then Beavis and Butthead, followed by Pam Anderson in Snapdragon. They re-released Night Trap for PS4 and it was such a nostalgia trip.

Fun reaction like always! I seen some ask for "Real Genius".. That is also a really fun movie! Val Kilmer is Hilarious in that movie.. so yeah.. you should check that one out for sure!! Btw.. Thank you! All of those movies are on my list but I didn't know Animal House was National Lampoon's, nice! Dazed and Confused is one I know I had on dvd but don't remember anything other than guys hanging around a bowling alley or something and in a car?
@@JayBondReacts Yes.. Animal house was the VERY FIRST National Lampoon's movie.. it's the movie that started it all!! Great cast and great soundtrack! Dazed And Confused.. Rodney Dangerfield's _Back To School_ (1986). 😏
@ LOL.. Yeah.. another great School comedy!! Rodney rules!! lol
Anthony Edwards was also great in ER, which ran for 15+ years
As popular as ER was, I don't think I've seen more than a couple episodes somehow. Haha
In case anyone's wondering, it was filmed at University of Arizona, in Tucson.

Napoleon Dynamite's pops!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not sure if you caught the dad that dropped them off at college was James Cromwell, best known for the movie “Babe”.
Oh really?! 😂 I didn't catch that and I even made a "Babe" reference when the pigs came in. Hahaha
And the police captain in LA Confidential
I remember watching Top Gun when it first came out, and I was blown away with Gilbert being Goose 🖒🖒
I didn't even recognize him back then and I loved RoTN.

18:56 Hey, I had Night Trap, on Sega CD 32X. I actually still have it.
Nice! That game was the best. I played it a couple years ago and it holds up. Super repetitive but hilarious.
Fun fact: Booger’s burp at the homecoming carnival was the blend of a human burp and the sound of a camel… finishing. 🥴🤣
Funny fact, Curtis who played Booger in Revenge of the Nerds also plays Snot in American Dad
Love that you reacted to this! You should watch the sequel, for sure! Weird but funny!

I absolutely love your content 💕
Thank you so much!
I love this movie so much. Although I wasn't considered a Nerd I definitely wasn't a Jock or bully either. Me and my friends always defended the ones being bullied. Great message at the end great reaction. ✌😎
I don't remember college being anything like this but then I was an undergraduate about a decade after this movie takes place :)
The one film I watched during football camp away from our hometown. It was a fun watch in the theater and still is. My younger brother saw Krull the year prior while we were at football camp. Glad to see a reactor doing movies that have not been covered by other reactors. I’ll be sticking around for sure.
Subbed, especially for the hopefully upcoming Real Genius reaction :P
Thank you! Soon!! Hahaha Either next week or the following.
It hasn't faded at all.
Nerd "dad" had the exact same laugh as his son.. hysterical....he is played by James (???) who years later was nominated for an Oscar for playing Farmer Hoggett in Babe and was also great as the police captain in lLA Confidential
Jayyyy dude, you just missed your generation.
The two of us together!??

Another 80s comedy to watch, STRIPES😎👍🤣
@9:10 you gotta wonder how many days it took them to render that
2:45 fun note. the dad would later make a total jackass move and glued himself to something, for some stupid reason that he was brainwashed into. LOL
5:40 The alcohol industry uses a 200 scale so 150 is 75% alcohol.
25:45 You will see another gay character's comedy sequences in _Mannequin_ (1987).
The thing about Lamar is that there are indeed people that act like that in real life. He is also not being really made fun of for being gay, so imo its totally fine. Its also an 80s movie.
Exactly, that's how I felt too.
Jay, glad you're doing your own thing rather than chasing trends. Some of those other channels are looking downright incestuous, like how everyone was doing _Borat_ a couple weeks ago. Your list of videos reminds me of the good ol' days of getting a take-n-bake pizza and renting an NES game and a couple videotapes for the weekend.
I appreciate that!
@@JayBondReacts If you're looking for a few more fun cheesy flicks no one's reacted to yet

- L.A. Story (1991) with Steve Martin + tons of surprising cameos (less cheesy, more wacky + heartfelt & exultant)
- Eraser (1996) with Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Diana Ross
It's a shame this one doesn't hold up well for obvious reasons, but there's a lot of jokes that are still hilarious! As a kid I was always a bigger fan of part 2 which has all the nerds but If I remember correctly, a little less assault.
I don't mind the stereotypes in this movie. They are all treated with respect, EXCEPT the Jocks. It's all treated respectfully and with love, and don't you lie and tell me you didn't tear up a couple of times.
Fun Fact: The University Of Arizona Was Selected To Be "Adams University"
You pick the best movies out of any reactor. I hope you will do Animal House, and Kentucky Fried Movie.
Thank you. I think both of those are on my list. Animal House is a must.
13:24 "You're nice!" 🤣
24:09 Was your other friend Seth Brundle?!
The guy who played Ogre is also in Bloodsport (and a bunch of other stuff).
17:20 To be fair, if he _were_ to make consistent eye contact in this situation, he'd probably crook his neck for weeks.

Good stuff.
That sounds intense, but I'd be down for both of those!
