I looked this topic up because I’ve been thinking lately: if curly hair is the driest hair type, why are we told to avoid watering it everyday? We’re encouraged to moisturize with oil, but dry hair needs hydration. That only comes from water. If our bodies are dehydrated, do we drink a bottle of oil or a bottle of water? Just random thoughts I’ve been having about this. So thanks for talking about it.
that’s not how it works. when we say moisture we don’t mean actual moisture. we mean conditioning. the reason curly hair is considered drier is because it tends to be high porosity and have less sebum on it both of these properties let moisture ESCAPE, and that’s why it’s “dry”. if your hair is dry don’t put more water on it, instead focus on sealing the cuticles and sealing in the moisture that’s already there. scalp however does need frequent washing, a clean scalp = healthy scalp = healthy hair
@lambsauce8937 you're partially correct. I'd would advise those with curly/kinky hair to wash more AND seal their cuticles to keep that moisture. The scalp needs to be cleaned regularly with water and the hair needs the moisture from water. If the hair is highly porous then the moisture can only return on wash days so adding more wash days increases the moisture in the hair
Wow, I’ve never seen any black females on social media talk about this. I’ve been washing my hair daily since college and I’m now 49. It literally makes my hair grow like a weed and the body it provides is unreal. I haven’t looked back ever since.
I started daily washing this year, took a min to find the right shampoo and condish but this is THE best black hair care secret. Hardly any tangles, inc. growth rate, my hair is so soft and my routine is waaaaay less stressful. It’s actually quite relaxing and refreshing. I don’t plan on stopping.
@@amateurastronomer9752 Yessssss to everything you’ve said! 🙌🏾 I think we’ve been lied to our whole lives. It doesn’t dry our hair and scalp out nor makes our hair brittle. It make our hair stronger, add a ton of body w/ a lot of movement, promotes crazy growth, smells sooooo good, makes it thicker, less tangling, etc. The daily washing changed my hair texture too over a period of time…it’s straighter. Btw, my hair is natural (no chemicals and dyes. We as black people has to clean our scalp pores just like the finer hair textures on a daily basis in order to obtain the best out of our hair. I know it brings out the best in mine.
@@katbell436 Omg, I forgot to mention the smell! Knowing at any time someone can put their nose to my scalp and it will smell great has given me a whole new confidence as a woman . And I’ve too have noticed that my curls are starting to really pop. This the way to go!
I started doing this a few months ago and I am addicted. For any ladies in their 40s or 50s with thinning of crown issues, daily washing concentrating on you r scalp is the way to fix it.
I used to wash my hair everyday 11 for years. My hair used to grow fast. I stoped doing so in 2010 when I started to wear hijab. Let me tell you washing your hair daily will help your hair to grow. Now I wash my hair twice daily. Our hair needs hydration and oil.
I’m so glad I watched this because I decided to make this change last year and started washing my hair daily, sometimes I’ll skip a day if I’m busy but usually everyday then putting coconut oil in my damp hair and let me tell you for the first time in my life my hair has grown past my shoulders and I see clearly the growth every month! Love it and never changing back!!!… also they say that we must wear protective hairstyles to help our hair grow, i STOPPED doing that and leaving my hair out on a stay at home day or i tie it in a bun loosely for outings and my hair breakage has reduced immensely. I also trim my ends every 3 months so this has really worked well for me.
Put coconut oil with some rosemary leaves in a hot water bath to make rosemary infused coconut oil it made my haig grow so fast my baby hairs are almost just hairs now😂
@BuildaBi Why does she need to do this if she said simply washing is making it grow? That's part of our problem...we're out here doing the most except for keeping it clean.
I've washed it daily and experienced growth. So for people who say it can;t be done, Im hear to tell you it can and it works, lol. Matter of fact, I'm going back to that. Yes it can be dried with a blow dryer on med or warm heat.
@@smritivinayek6042 After my big chopped, between working out and swimming, I either shampooed or co washed daily. Neither were damaging and the only reason I stopped is because my hair grew so long in a matter of months. Looking back I was working too hard for definition and using way too much product. Nowadays I use one styler with a light leave in so I can dry it quickly even it’s long.
Girl you can do whatever you want with your hair. I wash and cowash my hair two to three times a week. Sometimes more. My hair loves it. Besides most black men wash their hair every time they shower like my brother. Our natural hair loves water. You should just use a cleanser that your hair loves.
I did the same i started washing my hair everyday wish sulfate shampoo bruhhhh i think all these hair gurus went crazy. I regret spending so much time and money to manage my hair.Women back in time had long frizzy hair and still considered beautiful i tried fighting frizz my whole life now im done with it i learned to loge my frizzy dry hair.
I'm Dominican and black and I wash my hair everyday now. Because my Honduran husband said it helps it grow and it does indeed. My hair is healthier that it's ever been. When I use conditioner and comb it there's no hair falling out on the comb. My hair is softer and after I blow dry it I put a mix a coconut and bergamot oil to help it grow

Been doing this for 2 weeks now but i rinse my hair with cold water 4-6 days out of the week, and shampoo 1 or 2 with conditioner. My hair hasn't been falling out like it used to and my hair looks a lot more shiny and defined.
@@dreamHIGH94 To be honest with you, you really won't see these great results everyone is talking about doing it just once a week. That's still not enough. Needs to be daily or at least 5-6 days a week. The science: ruclips.net/video/bDsNzlEeooQ/видео.htmlsi=7PYKC22a7Uyy7Giy
Love your hair. I did a big chop a year ago, and my hair grew tremendously. Now I'm natural, and I feel so good. God is good. I can admit I blow dry my hair maybe twice every two weeks. The results leaves my hair healthy, and bouncy. I wash my hair 3 times a week, once a week deep condition, and once a month clarifying, i also cut my dead ends off which helps with the growth, and the bounce. My opinion is.... washing your hair often is very good for hair growth.
I have decided to try this and I have been co-washing everyday and I must say my hair is much more moisturized, less shedding and breakage. Detangling with a widetooth comb or finger detangling, use a conditioner with a lot of slip. I think the misconception comes in with African American ethnic women that we aren't able to wash Co wash daily because we are assuming that is going to break or strip our hair, but if you detangle properly let it air-dry leave in conditioner and may be seal with the oil and you can do clarify shampoo once a week to remove the build-up and deep-condition. This has helped me. For reference I have 3C 4A 4B low porosity medium density fine textured hair. At night I do about three jumbo twist and tie my hair up with a 100% silk scarf.
Omg I am so glad I came across your channel.. I have been washing my hair everyday for 2 months. I had the same moment like why can’t I wash my hair everyday?? I do use a moisturized shampoo, but my hair is shiner , heather, and doesn’t tangle at all anymore.
I cut my hair a few months back, and I find recently that now that I am shampooing daily it started going faster. I make sure to follow up with a conditioner, but for the most part a tea tree shampoo that I thought would cause me issues is not. A few times out of the month I use Mane and Tail as my protein conditioner.
I'm glad I found your video. I was always told that "WE" can't wash our hair every day, well... I wet my hair everyday and put conditioner and oils, and every 2 weeks, I wash it with a natural shampoo in the summer time. In the winter times, I either wear braids or protected with a wig and my hair is thick and very healthy.
I started washing every week and noticed my hair growing rapidly. I figured that being told to wash once a month or I would damage it has been a lie repeated, just like lots of other things
Me too. Looks like the more I wash my hair, it seems to be growing fast and it is healthier. And I am not having any problems. 😊. As a black woman, thought we had to wait for a while. I thank God for the natural hair movement.
@@smilingface4761 hello i don’t know if you will see this, but i have a couple of questions! i want to know : what is your hair porosity what is your hair texture (fine, “normal” , or coarse ) also, do you co wash 6 days and then use actual shampoo on the 7th day? really curious for hair thrives when. washed everyday considering shampoo strips natural oils! please let me know your routine xx also do you stretch out your hair or leave it in a curly shrunken state !?
Your hair is super pretty! I used to cowash daily when my hair was super short. It grew suuuper fast. I just got back to it, and so far so good. I thought it would be draining since I have more hair but it isn’t. I just add product and let my fro be. The work is in the manipulation (twisting, braiding, etc.)
How did you style it though. I like to wear mint twist but that would be a pain to have to take them out every time I wash them. I tried washing with the twist in but I have soft hair so it tangled easily
@@tyrafields4085 My hair is coarse I use medium or small plaits if bothered when I put water everyday in my hair as it prevent my hair from tangling without using comb and add some coconut oil after.
To be honest your scalp looks clean and soft with no build up of product or anything else. Your hair doesn’t look frizzy or dry to me , doesn’t look oily or lifeless either. Looks really nice
I have always been natural my entire life. My hair routine is simple. I wash my hair daily and have no issues. I use either a leave- in or a mousse. I'm a serious wash n go woman. I love my shower time. I don't even do bonnets. I might add that in. But, I hear that it causes damage, too. 👀
When I was younger my mom washed my hair basically every single day, so that's what I did too (with sulfate shampoo...lol) My hair was down to my butt and very healthy. I don't know why I've stopped, if it's not broke don't fix it,right, finally washing my hair multiple times a week now for the first time in 10+ years and love it..
I water wash my hair everyday i add conditioner and just leave the conditioner in then slick my edges with gel and go I also let it air dry. started this about 2 mths ago and my hair loves it. I also swim everyday so had to find something that works and this does. Our hair is like a plant and needs to be treated as such I could water it everyday all that money wasted on products you just don’t need.
My hair ( 4C natural ) loves it. Been doing it for a couple of months . Hair is flourishing! I co wash a few times a week ( not faithfully) and regular shampoo probably once a month .
That's not daily washing. Conditioner does not cleanse hair. You are just moisturizing daily and still washing once a month. She said she shampooed aka washed daily. We need to use correct terminology.
When my hair was low to my head I had to wash it way more often than I do now and I tell ya it looked a lot better ima go back to my bald head girl regimen by washing it everyday
We avoid it to maintain our natural oils as long as possible. I personally look for sulfate free shampoos (Giovanni) cause it leaves my hair clean without tampering with its natural moisture but every day for me(4a hair) would be high risk, high maintenance, and unnecessary lol
You can cowash everyday and then shampoo once a week. Try it because it works. Black women are so scared of water then they wonder why their hair doesn't grow or is dry all the time.
I haven’t met a lot of black girls also practicing head covering and, I’m actually researching washing my hair daily!! Immediately subscribed ❤❤❤ (I see from your channel that you also sew!! If I lived closer I would have loved to be friends 😊🥳). Blessings 🙏🙂
Is anyone doing this lately? I’ve been interested in washing my hair everyday, but I don’t know what to do afterwards… How do you moisturize your hair afterwards? How do you dry it? Do you leave it wet? How do you go to bed and take care of it when you wake up? I want to start wearing my hair out more, but I don’t know what else to do with it after washing except putting it up in a couple braids (my hairs really curly, and I struggle with a lot of fairy knots and splits). Any insight? I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now.
Try buying a standing hair dryer before trying it out. The indirect heat from the dryer will help dry your hair quicker and set your styles (for wash n gos/ twist outs) I wash my hair twice a week/ every 5 days and my length retention has been excellent.
I haven’t been washing my hair everyday, but every time I take a shower I would detangling my hair and twist it in four sections. Haven’t gotten the drying part down quite yet, but my hair has still grown a lot. I started with my shoulder length hair (that was originally above my butt but my ends made my hair un-detangleable) and as of now my hair is about mid back. My edges have even been growing in, which never had happened before 😂 I want to be able to shampoo my hair everyday, but as I said, my hair is around 4c and not loose like the lady in the video, it’s getting pretty long, so it’ll take a foreverrrrr. For now, I’ll have to deal with once a week

@@nicholasharris5480 I’m sorry I’m still not understanding because plants don’t dry out from overwatering either, they wilt. But consider, does any other part of your skin dry out from being washed and moisturized daily (or every other day for some, no judgment)? Because scalp is skin.

Also, it makes me wonder if some of these products don't work for black women because we leave them on our hair too long. A lot of these conditioners, leave ins, serums, sprays, etc. are not meant to be left on the hair for 4+ days let alone 1-4 weeks!
I have 4c hair and when I was a new natural I cowashed my hair every 2-3 days and shampooed weekly. It’s been a couple years and I’ve got lazy and now wash it every 7-10 days. I thought about wetting my hair daily as well but I have very dense hair and different textures. If I’m washing my hair myself I must do it in sections to make it easier for me. Due to the density of my hair type I would never have the time to wash my hair daily. That detangling ain’t no joke with my hair
Lived in Minnesota and was the only black girl in class, at sleepovers. And started to wash my hair daily to have hair more like my white and mixed friends. Its dried out and broke off cause I used selsum blue shampoo daily!... (or whatever strong shampoo my gma had) so that made me believe to not wash hair regularly. But now I'm doing water only and co wash between the gentle and sometimes sulfate shampoos. I want to do water only and use my sebum but....it seems like a hassle. I like shampoo.
it’s about hair porosity and it is really by a case by case basis low porosity hair tends to like being manipulated a lot less than high porosity hair high porosity hair would also benefit greatly from moisture so if you have high porosity hair that just loves water Like being moisturized because it’s constantly losing moisture then you’d probably benefit from this. However, compared to its counterpart, low porosity hair and normal porosity hair have no real struggle holding moisture with the right products so this would probably not be a good idea to try. With the case by case basis you can ask yourself does your hair get more oily than normal? Does your hair have trouble producing oil, is it constantly dry at the scalp? It’s not really getting dirty by your hair, natural hair oils, etc..
The only reason I don’t wash my hair every day is because it takes way too long to something with it afterwards and it takes 2 days to fully dry. Sleeping on wet hair is ni bueno
It only takes long if you haven’t figured out a quick technique that works for you yet, and you don’t leave the hair to air dry. Sit under a hooded dryer, use a diffuser or a microfiber towel to dry your hair.
@@WhatsUporDown no matter who you are the theory is that if you wash and detangle it more often it shouldn’t take you an hour or so to detangle it over time because you’re not leaving it to get tangled days on end. It’s all about consistency and the right products that give your hair enough slip. The only thing that would make you any different is if you don’t have the time or money to tend to your hair more often which is okay cause everyone’s lifestyle is different you just gotta do what works for you and improve where you can.
@@LifeFilmz I’ve tried washing & detangling more often and while it is a bit faster it’s not fast enough to justify doing it every day or even every other day. The girl in this video has super thin hair compared to mine. Have you seen truly thick hair? I don’t think you have or you wouldn’t be saying this.
@@WhatsUporDown my hair is thick and highly dense mostly type 4b hair. I started washing it more often because I am more physically active now throughout the week and I have to or else my scalp will be irritated from leaving sweat and dirt on it. It used to take me an hour to detangle my hair and now it only takes 10 minutes because I talked to a natural hairstylist who told me to switch my conditioner and to use a more gentle hydrating shampoo for frequent washing. I think because I’m getting it wet more frequently it’s making the process faster also. And my hair doesn’t take forever to dry because I bought a hooded dryer that gets it 75% dry when I sit under it for 30 mins and I let it air dry on its own the rest of the day. So I’m saying this from my own experience. But like I said everyone’s lifestyle is different so you can only improve where you can.
Question so I that High porosity hair or low? Asking because mine is the opposite of yours it dries quickly. So I’m trying to figure out what porosity I am and I’m a male by the way. I don’t know if that makes a difference.
Funny i find this video as today is day three of me washing my hair...gonna go for a month; no hair no brush.....my goal: to see what results I'll get.

What if you have 4 type hair do you think it is okay to wash it every day or at least twice a week, and to just replenish it with oils and maybe creams? Is it even possible to wet 4 type hair every day, I’m talking about 4a,4,b and 4c types? Maybe it just depends on your porosity which is how fast your hair drys idk I think I’ll try this experiment, with my 4 type hair but just wetting it everyday or every other day and then putting oils after just to see if my hair can actually benefit from it.
If you ask any swimmer with type 4 hair, they’ll tell shampooing daily doesn’t damage hair. The opposite of dryness is water, not oil. Hair receives the most water when it’s cleaned. It’s just facts. When I first big chopped, between working out and swimming daily, I either cowashed or shampooed with zero issues. If anything detangling was easier and quicker. The only reason I stopped is because I was using too many products to style and as my hair got longer it took longer and longer to dry. Now that I only use one styler and a light leave in, I’m able to go back to washing every couple of days. I probably won’t go back to daily unless I cut my hair.
@@denyshadials5702 You're right it's very time-consuming to wash your hair every 1 once a week and then moisturize it after, iv been doing that without shampoo for 2 weeks and boyy I'm tired of it already, so for the type of lifestyle I have I think I should just wet my hair every 2 weeks and then style and re-moisturize, Before I usually just leave it alone for 2 months at a time, not doing anything to it, just leaving it in my twist and spritzing it with water and cream probably every 2 weeks throughout that time, but since iv been wetting my twist with water and actually truly moisturizing it, I find it feels a lot softer and less dry. So it's probably ok to wet your hair more often than many people with type 4 hair think, I used to be hesitant to wet my hair more often because I didn't want hydral-fatigue, (and I don't like going to bed with a wet head lol). knowing this now, I think a better routine for me would be washing it with shampoo every 2 weeks and wetting it with water every 1 once a week, that's what iv been doing and so far and it's working!!! my hair's not dry at all, as long as I moisturize it well after. I'd even go far enough to say that I don't even need deep conditioner doing this routine!!! (since I haven't been using one since I shampooed it, its still moisturized because of the fact that I'm wetting it more often).
4c girlie here! Daily hair routine: wash with shampoo, silicone free conditioner for a few minutes, finger detangle (nothing too intricate, since I wash daily, shed hairs, come out easily), spray some Aussie leave in, little bit of ecostyler all over. Shake it out. Blow dry for a few minutes on low heat just to get rid of excess/dripping water and get some airflow to the roots. Go about my day as it air dries. I don’t wash in sections, I don’t detangle with a brush/comb and I don’t stretch while blow drying. This saves me a lot of time and the whole process takes about 20 min. If you can accept your shrinkage and natural texture (though my curl pattern pops moreso than before), this is the way to go. My hair is softer and looks way better now than with any other method I’ve tried and I’ve tried them all. I’d like add I have very dense hair. I hear thinner hair may tangle more easily.
Everything isn’t for anyone. Using a blow dryer on my hair everyday would cause crazy damage and my hair will not dry on its own in a couple hours. It’s dense with think strands. If you can do it go ahead. You have low density, type 3 hair with fine strands. Medical Professionals also advice against washing the hair everyday as well.
Question if African Americans don't wash there hair everyday are they washing there body's less frequently I could assume that like a teenage boy would be not showering that much if your not washing your hair daily then the body isn't daily .and if not washing daily do African Americans use like perfume on there hair because our hair absorbs smells an our scalp needs cleaning. I applaud you for providing the myths wrong
Its called a shower cap. It keeps your hair dry while you shower. I'm sure you've heard of that. Most of us bathe daily, like everyone else. I usually bathe twice a day cuz I go to the gym almost daily.
Yes, we wash our bodies everyday just like everyone else, like someone else just posted we use shower caps. SMDH 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ And no our hair doesn’t smell unless you put your nose directly to our hair
Do i still need to wash my hair everyday if washing it is when it sheds the most? Also, my hair grows long while in a sew-in without being touched or washed. So is that a sign I wouldn't benefit from washing my hair everyday?
Unless the shampoo is sulfate free you can wash as much as you want . The sulfate will clean it so much that it cleans the natural moisture leaving your hair dry which is really bad for curly hair
I don’t believe that. When I was in high school I washed my hair daily with regular shampoo and conditioner. I used mousse and hairspray. My hair was long shiny and very moisturized. I never had a split end.

Well it’s because it strips your hair off moisture that causes damage... well that’s me personally. Even if I replenish it with oils the oils aren’t in long enough to actually make a difference. My hair would just fall out honestly
I am experiencing the same, tried 3 times weekly and once weekly. Both frequencies still had lots of breakage. I am about to try twice monthly to see what happens.
When I first went natural I washed my hair 3 to 2 times a week and my hair was always stripped and I couldn't figure out why, until my mom and aunt told me to stop washing it a lot, and that's not even a everyday thing and it damaged my hair, I stopped washing my hair like that and started Wash my hair once to every 2 weeks and my hair was so much better, the feeling of my hair wasn't so stripped anymore.
i wash my hair every 3 days and I think that's too often. I'm going to try to wash my hair twice a month. when I was my hair often. it's too dry and takes a lot of product to get it back pliable and at a proper moisture level. which in turn equals a lot of manipulation and breakage all over the bathroom.
Same here, I tried washing 3 times a week, then weekly but not frequencies came with so much breakage for me and no length retention. I am about to try twice a month now.
@@hubb52424c hair with very low porosity should not be washing hair daily with shampoo, I have had Mang licensed hair stylists tell me, not to and they are right. Rice and oats cream shampoo is the best for 4c hair.
Curly hair absorbs oils naturally, I am white with curly hair and I can throw an insane amount of product in my hair and give it 30 minutes and my hair will absorb it and look dry again. Yes you can wash everyday, but then you would need an excess of conditioners (not to mention styling products)to fix what the shampoo just did to your hair. It is a waste of money and it is also a ton of pollution when you think of the amount of bottles you will go through. As a hairstylist and a proud owner of curly hair, yes it can be done but not really worth all the effort. And all those stupid white girls that go on and on about washing daily, it’s usually cuz they don’t know how to was their hair properly... lathering their ends and conditioning their scalp 😂 😝I wash 1-2 times a week and I don’t even have a full s curl. Don’t listen to anyone acting like you need to wash everyday, if you want the smell skip the wash and go straight to the conditioner!!
But if you want to wash your hair daily, curly or not, there is nothing wrong with that. I seem to get more curls from shampoo than conditioner alone, and Im 4a hair. So I see nothing wrong with washing hair daily
🎉😂Sis, you’re African so it’s Afro hair. 😂 Doesn’t matter if it grew out wavy straight or curly!!! It’s growing out of your African scalp!!! 😂 😊 btw… I wash every other day depending on how I feel. We can wash every single day if we’re gentle with it & using the right 3 products for our hair. Also NO daily extreme HEAT!! 😎🥳
I think that it’s really great that you’ve managed to find a routine that works for you but I don’t agree with shading other curly girls who are following the curly girl method and have found good results with that The reason why it probably didn’t work for the girl you mentioned is because: 1. Many curly girls don’t towel dry there hair because it the surface is too rough and it causes frizz, tangled hair strands and breakage 2. Blow drying is also out of the question because it cause heat damage and therefore breakage 3. Tighter curls tangle easily if they are manipulated everyday therefore people prefer to keep them in low manipulation styles 4. High porosity hair has problems retaining moisture and daily washing (even with mild surfactants and lots of conditioner) daily washing can be drying 5. Tighter curls struggle with detangling their hair once a week and it can be very time consuming and those of us with jobs don’t have the time to do that everyday There a probably several more reasons that I haven’t thought of. Whilst it’s great your happy with this new routine, I don’t think you need to promote at the expense of another girl. If she seemed disingenuous to you it’s most likely cause she was addressing an alleged pedophile and racist
Yes I've heard these reasons before. But many people say those things without even trying to see if it's true. I believed i couldn't wash my hair every day because im black and that was obviously a lie. I still don't believe that people with my hair textures and similar ones have to avoid daily washing. We choose to and that's fine, but we don't have to. It's just easier and cheaper to wash once a week or less. I just want to dispel a myth.

Cowash causes terrible buildup. Companies didn't create conditioner for washing. Do you skip taking showers because the soap strips your skin on oil? No, you just use lotion. Just use conditioner after shampooing.

YASS SAY IT LOUDER
I looked this topic up because I’ve been thinking lately: if curly hair is the driest hair type, why are we told to avoid watering it everyday? We’re encouraged to moisturize with oil, but dry hair needs hydration. That only comes from water. If our bodies are dehydrated, do we drink a bottle of oil or a bottle of water?
Just random thoughts I’ve been having about this. So thanks for talking about it.
Yeah seems like common sense don't it?
that’s not how it works. when we say moisture we don’t mean actual moisture. we mean conditioning. the reason curly hair is considered drier is because it tends to be high porosity and have less sebum on it both of these properties let moisture ESCAPE, and that’s why it’s “dry”. if your hair is dry don’t put more water on it, instead focus on sealing the cuticles and sealing in the moisture that’s already there. scalp however does need frequent washing, a clean scalp = healthy scalp = healthy hair
I was thinking the same thing.!

I stopped, I found them to be too misleading.
I think we’ve been lied to our whole lives.

I have decided to try this and I have been co-washing everyday and I must say my hair is much more moisturized, less shedding and breakage. Detangling with a widetooth comb or finger detangling, use a conditioner with a lot of slip. I think the misconception comes in with African American ethnic women that we aren't able to wash Co wash daily because we are assuming that is going to break or strip our hair, but if you detangle properly let it air-dry leave in conditioner and may be seal with the oil and you can do clarify shampoo once a week to remove the build-up and deep-condition. it’s about hair porosity and it is really by a case by case basis low porosity hair tends to like being manipulated a lot less than high porosity hair high porosity hair would also benefit greatly from moisture so if you have high porosity hair that just loves water Like being moisturized because it’s constantly losing moisture then you’d probably benefit from this.

@@WhatsUporDown no matter who you are the theory is that if you wash and detangle it more often it shouldn’t take you an hour or so to detangle it over time because you’re not leaving it to get tangled days on end.
@@WhatsUporDown my hair is thick and highly dense mostly type 4b hair.

@@denyshadials5702 You're right it's very time-consuming to wash your hair every 1 once a week and then moisturize it after, iv been doing that without shampoo for 2 weeks and boyy I'm tired of it already, so for the type of lifestyle I have I think I should just wet my hair every 2 weeks and then style and re-moisturize,
Before I usually just leave it alone for 2 months at a time, not doing anything to it, just leaving it in my twist and spritzing it with water and cream probably every 2 weeks throughout that time, but since iv been wetting my twist with water and actually truly moisturizing it, I find it feels a lot softer and less dry.

knowing this now, I think a better routine for me would be washing it with shampoo every 2 weeks and wetting it with water every 1 once a week, that's what iv been doing and so far and it's working!!! my hair's not dry at all, as long as I moisturize it well after. I'd even go far enough to say that I don't even need deep conditioner doing this routine!!! (since I haven't been using one since I shampooed it, its still moisturized because of the fact that I'm wetting it more often).
I have type 4 hair and constant water is the best thing for it. I'm in approaching three weeks of washing my hair daily.
How are you working a 9 to 5 job, washing your hair and just going?
Everything isn’t for anyone. Using a blow dryer on my hair everyday would cause crazy damage and my hair will not dry on its own in a couple hours. It’s dense with think strands. If you can do it go ahead. You have low density, type 3 hair with fine strands. Medical Professionals also advice against washing the hair everyday as well.
Use the Revair!
Trust me honey, medical professionals get stuff wrong all the time.
😒
@@AA-yc9dqRight.
I have 4b hair. I wanna try this experiment lol.
did it grow your hair
Do i still need to wash my hair everyday if washing it is when it sheds the most? Also, my hair grows long while in a sew-in without being touched or washed. So is that a sign I wouldn't benefit from washing my hair everyday?
Your hair looks gorgeous 🥰
Unless the shampoo is sulfate free you can wash as much as you want . The sulfate will clean it so much that it cleans the natural moisture leaving your hair dry which is really bad for curly hair
I don’t believe that. When I was in high school I washed my hair daily with regular shampoo and conditioner. I used mousse and hairspray. My hair was long shiny and very moisturized. I never had a split end.
@@twin86040317 maybe the mousse mended your split ends together :)
@@JayJay-oo2sc I don’t wash my hair daily anymore and I’ve been using mousse for the past year and have had so many split ends and my hair doesn’t grow fast like it used to
@@twin86040317 Interesting, really? Did you ever get around to washing more often again?
@@ChesireWaltz no. I think hormones, age, diet plays a part in it as well. But I don’t have time to wash daily. I also have realized I’m protein sensitive. Which has caused breakage on my hair. I now have been trying to use protein free products and my hair seems to be improving.
Your hair looks beautiful!!!!
My main quest is how you dry your hair
Well it’s because it strips your hair off moisture that causes damage... well that’s me personally. Even if I replenish it with oils the oils aren’t in long enough to actually make a difference. My hair would just fall out honestly
Mac Loca yeah! It takes way too much work for me. I only shampoo 1 or 2 a week, and condition, and Detangle every time I shower (every other day).
I am experiencing the same, tried 3 times weekly and once weekly. Both frequencies still had lots of breakage.
I am about to try twice monthly to see what happens.
It's beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
BEAUTIFUL hair!
Herbal Essences is the real mvp
You look like you could be a third sister of mine! It's almost scary
Nice you have the texture that can wash everyday, my 4G mid back hair could never, it’s take 4-6 hours so it’s every 2-4 weeks for me.
When I first went natural I washed my hair 3 to 2 times a week and my hair was always stripped and I couldn't figure out why, until my mom and aunt told me to stop washing it a lot, and that's not even a everyday thing and it damaged my hair, I stopped washing my hair like that and started Wash my hair once to every 2 weeks and my hair was so much better, the feeling of my hair wasn't so stripped anymore.
ballet artist out of curiosity ... what’s your hair type?? I’d also like to try washing my hair less often to see if my hair improves ....
Bet anything you were using cheap drugstore shampoo. Products do matter!
What shampoo did u use, did your tangle
I wash my hair everyday since i have dandruff..shampoo dries it though so sometimes i just put conditioner
anything from 3a and 4c is afro textured hair!
Uh , pating dry isn't completely dry 🙄
Did you use conditioner?
U might have a point
Your hair looks so healthy lol.
i wash my hair every 3 days and I think that's too often.
You have very beautiful hair❤❤❤
Nice and natural 👍🏼
Does this apply for high porosity hair?
Ya'll curly girls still using excessive amounts of conditioner and styling products and don't even use shampoo so...🤷🏾♀️
What shampoo did u use?
🎉😂Sis, you’re African so it’s Afro hair. 😂 Doesn’t matter if it grew out wavy straight or curly!!! It’s growing out of your African scalp!!! 😂 😊 btw… I wash every other day depending on how I feel. We can wash every single day if we’re gentle with it & using the right 3 products for our hair. Also NO daily extreme HEAT!! 😎🥳
Summer time fine hair can get oily
I think that it’s really great that you’ve managed to find a routine that works for you but I don’t agree with shading other curly girls who are following the curly girl method and have found good results with that
The reason why it probably didn’t work for the girl you mentioned is because:
1. Many curly girls don’t towel dry there hair because it the surface is too rough and it causes frizz, tangled hair strands and breakage
2. Blow drying is also out of the question because it cause heat damage and therefore breakage
3. Tighter curls tangle easily if they are manipulated everyday therefore people prefer to keep them in low manipulation styles
4. High porosity hair has problems retaining moisture and daily washing (even with mild surfactants and lots of conditioner) daily washing can be drying
5. Tighter curls struggle with detangling their hair once a week and it can be very time consuming and those of us with jobs don’t have the time to do that everyday
There a probably several more reasons that I haven’t thought of.
@@keke10783Can I Use Baby shampo Every Day
@@keke10783 you didn't dispel a myth bc you don't have true 4c hair 🤦🏿 so you followed the trend for no reason
@@SlavyyDGirl there's a 4c woman washing every 2-3 days here on RUclips. She has thigh length hair and it's thick as heck. She says her fast hair growth is from frequent washing which she's been doing for many years. Her name is Ms. Mississippi. Y'all out here defeated without even trying.
It strips the hair not unless you co-wash.
Cowash causes terrible buildup. Companies didn't create conditioner for washing. Do you skip taking showers because the soap strips your skin on oil? No, you just use lotion. Just use conditioner after shampooing.
Everytime u Shampoo did u Condition
I think so, you should to retain some moisture
