I will be using FIAR 1 & 2 for first grade this year. We are so excited! I will also be trying the new FIAR volume 5 with my 6th grader. I have not seen many youtubers talk about FIAR & I don't get how this gentle/ realistic way of learning can be so overlooked.
Love it! I will be using volume 1 and 2 with my daughter this year, too! I’m very excited to share more about all of the levels we are using this year. It definitely needs to be talked about more.
You almost have the same age kids as I do. I’m using Volume 5 for my 12 and 10 year old, Volume 1 and 2 for my 7 year old, and before five in a row for my 4 year old. For your two year old, you could always just have him/her be involved with what the five year old is using, and combine the 11 and 8 year old in one Volume.
@@BethPavlik I wonder if there’s a certainly volume that I could essentially use for k-5 kiddos!? BFIAR for my toddler, but my 5yo already has a good grasp on late Kindergarten things… my mom did a fantastic job with her for preschool!!
It’s really up to you and where you think your kids are at. Volumes 1-3 are for ages 5-9 and volumes 4 and 5 are for ages 9-12. I would suggest looking at the book lists and seeing if they would be good for all of your older kids.
I have the first edition of five in a Row Volume 1 , what are the differences in the second edition, in your opinion do you think it’s worth purchasing the new edition?
I have the first edition of Volume 1 as well and I don’t plan on getting the new edition at this time. On their website, it says the changes to Volume 1 are 100+ pages of new content like multiple activity pages and room for teacher’s notes. The book selections aren’t changing. I think the first edition will be enough, especially since I plan on adding in the fold n learn packets and the notebook builder they offer for more content.
It really depends. The manual suggests taking two weeks per book and there are six books, so it would take you a semester to complete if you stayed on a tight schedule and didn't take any breaks. They also have bonus books you could add on. You could definitely extend the studies on each book or you could do two volumes in one year. Thanks for the question!
I’m considering using FIAR for my upcoming 1st & 3rd graders. We are trying the sample lesson. But I hadn’t thought about using it for my 6th grader next year…Would I need to continue with Fix it grammar & his math. Are you adding writing, history, or science?
While using FIAR, you will still need a full math curriculum and languages arts curriculum. FIAR is more of a supplement and ties all subjects together through books.
This is pulled directly from their FAQ page on their website: “ ‘Is this a Christian Curriculum?’ We are Christians so you’ll find that the stories we’ve chosen and the academic lessons suggested in the teacher’s manuals come from a Christian worldview. But you won’t find specific bible teaching UNLESS you purchase the FIAR Christian Character and Bible Study Supplement that goes along with the stories you will be reading.”
