I grew up in Dallas in the 60's and have great memories of the older players. Loved Dandy Don, Bullet Bob Hayes, Jethro Pugh, George Andrie and especially Walt Garrison. They don't make Dallas Cowboys like that anymore.

Id go to my grandmas house in Oak Cliff and spend the weekend just to catch a bus and go to the Cotton Bowl when I was a kid in the 60’s. Then I’d stand behind the stadium and get autographs. Calvin Hill actually stood and talk to me one night, man those where the days!

Chuck Howley, along with Bob Lilly, were my favorite defensive stars. I was a lucky kid indeed to have gone to the Thanksgiving Day game at the Cotton Bowl vs the Washington Redskins in 1968. R. I. Lived in Dallas in the 50's and 60's and pro football loomed large in our family. Big Dallas Texan fan - sorry Cowboys - 1960 to 1962. At least the Texan's gave Dallas its first national championship before packing off to Kansas City.
I worked at KRLD AM NewsRadio in 1980s when it was flagship station for the Cowboys.I didn't cover sports but I met a lot of the current and past players at the time. It was an honor.

My brother was a suitemate of Calvin's during his Freshman year. I was a Cowboys fan when Calvin was in Dallas. He went back to Yale and got his divinity degree and was in community service in Baltimore. Probably in his late 70''s today.

Don Smerek, a 6 foot, 7 inch defensive lineman who was often injured and mostly filled in for starters who were injured, was not a victim of a homicide. In 1981 he was shot in the chest during a traffic accident related altercation in the parking lot of a Dallas restaurant, but survived, and went on to play football until he retired in 1988. The shooter was not indicted, as the jurors were convinced that he acted in self defence. He died of some form of cancer. I realize that this was not Intended to be a complete list, but the next time you update it please include the late/great Jerry Tubbs, and Eddie LeBaron, the first quarterback. So many of the players here didn't play for the Cowboys for very long. Respectfully
