Time sure flies doesn't it! I saw many of these guys play when I was growing up as a kid in the late 1960s... I'm turning 67 on November 20. So sad to see so many familiar faces pass away.

I hear you brother, I turned 67 in July. Roman Gabriel was my first football hero and I met him and became good friends with him about 12 years ago as he went to the same gym as me back home in South Carolina. He is originally from Wilmington, NC. I sure miss him as we had some awesome conversations in the gym about the old NFL back when he played. I'm retired army so he liked to hear my stories as well. Man I loved the NFL back then, but don't care for it much anymore.

@@mikeallen3518 I grew up as a kid watching most of these guys play. I was a Ram fan living in the L.A. area idolizing Roman Gabriel, Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen, Bernie Casey... Hard to watch them pass on.

@@69FOSTER Being from North Carolina my whole family were big Roman Gabriel fans cause he was from Wilmington, NC and played at NC State, so that made us Rams fans too. The Carolina Panthers didn't exist back then. I liked the Packers back then too and Bart Starr. So I am so blessed to have met and become good friends with Roman. You will appreciate this story......I asked him this one day in the gym, "Roman just how tough was it to play in Green Bay back in those days of the Glory Years in the NFL? (I always told him he played in the Glory Years of the NFL, he would always smile and liked to hear that from me).......So Roman said to me, "Mike we would get on the plane in LA and it would be 80 degrees and we'd get off in Green Bay and it would be 20 degrees, then I had to go out there and face Ray Nitschke all day." That said it all because as you may recall Ray was a terror in the NFL back then much like Dick Butkus. And there were no special rules to protect the QB back then either. Man I miss talking to Roman in the gym brother. Yes they were ALL special to us back then and it is so hard to see them pass away. Its like we are losing our own family members when they do.

Makes you cry. Like each of us they had a place in time. It came and it went and it reaches out to another generation. But that time and place is very unique and very special. They played the game and we loved them❤ for it.
