Great video! I had my BMPCC hd from 2014 to 2018 and really enjoyed it. Sold it to get the BMPCC4K in October 2018 and never looked back. BM colour science is the way to go!
As a cinematographer where I work with many different cameras, my own equipment is a blackmagic pocket 4k and the pocket original, and the texture and feel of the original pocket is way more beautiful than the pocket 4k and many others DSLR and semi professional camera. I like it a lot, it's like having a toy in your pocket!
@@WillvonTagen Have you guys tried the Canon EOS-M with Magic Lantern? The newest Danne build with 170mbps sd card is AWESOME. 14 bi RAW 5k anamorphic ect.......
Got mine off eBay for about $500 with a few lenses. Just started filming my first short with it with a couple of friends. Love it so much, thanks for convincing me to go this route!
I have been working with the BMPCC OG since 2017. I have been looking for this channel ever since then, and I'm filled with so much gratitude for you making this.
That's exactly what I did last year - only with a Fujifilm X-T1. While everyone was upgrading to iPhone 12 I sold my 11 Pro and bought the camera and 35/1.4. Haven't ever gotten such beautiful images before, despite me doing photography part time almost half my life and trying out around 20 different cameras through the years. Now expanding into film as well I'm really looking forward to try Blackmagic sooner or later!
I was about to upgrade to the bmpcc4k but Davinci Resolve came out with their smart upscaling feature so sticking with the original. Also the fact that the original bmpcc looks more cinematic!
This camera has made me appreciate what filmmaking is all about. I had stepped up to the 4K - had more to do with control of the camera by the ATEM than image quality. With this camera, you can learn not to chase pixels. You can learn all the basics. The new lenses are really meant for newer and much heavier cameras. I stepped back to the BMPCC and regrouped. I now use manual vintage Angenieux lenses that produce amazing images when paired with the BMPCC. Now collecting dust are newer auto MFT lenses. Now, this camera comes alive in your hands. Shoot RAW into Davinci Resolve Studio 17. Learn to use your filters, Learn all the basics. You now have total control of the content of your videos. The real message is to decide what you want to be the end result of your work. This camera with vintage lenses delivers a look that cannot be duplicated chasing pixels, technology, and spending $$$. I do not have any aspirations of creating feature films. Yet the results are spell bounding in their quality. HD is more than enough for posting and sharing. Most of the time I have to downsize to 720p to send or upload for friends and family. Remember, enough is enough, go back to the basics. Vintage lenses complete the bargain when combined with this camera. Both of my BMPCCs cost under $500 - patience and determination is the guideword in pursuing one. I just picked up a mint Angenieux 15-150mm Anamorphic Parfocal Zoom lens in the original box for $305. What will your zoom lens for the 4K/6K will cost you? Enough said. Also thanks for the info on the SD cards - I use the Kingston 512K in both of my BMPCC shooting raw at 24fps. Another important step is getting a cheap reliable external battery setup. I am using a small rig battery plate with Sony NP-F970 high capacity batteries for external power into the DC in. I never worry about a low battery again. Again, affordable option. Thanks to Will, for inspiring me to take a step back and just stick with the basics and learn the craft.
Ah man between you and “Of two lands” I think my personal camera won’t be a photo camera at all. I love the idea of travelling with this BMPCCOG! I can’t get enough of the image.
Will von Tagen they are indeed. I am waiting for my BMPCC4K to arrive but I’m so keen to save up for a camera that’s just fun for me for personal films etc to keep me excited. I think this little guy is it! Thanks again. Keep sharing on YT
Hi, I need to say : THANKS for telling a big truth (in my opinion), that dark is dark, night is night, YES it is. People should watch the classics movies. Now my anxiety for iso, exposition, lighting is gone ! Merci dear, and your shots are superbes !
I love love love this camera. First camera I ever bought. Shot my first short film on this. Now I have the new BM 4K/6K and URSA, but I gave this to my little sister and she uses it for alll of her projects. If you’re looking for a cheap camera, this is 100% the way to go! Even considering picking another one of these up for easy gimbal work 🙏🏻
Totally! I also used it frequently before, but sold it a little over a year ago to get the 4K. I did always miss the look and compact nature of the OG, so I recently picked up another one to also have for easier travel and gimbal use (or just more casual projects).
Give me one please, I'm an aspiring screenwriter and director who wants to tell a story through motion pictures, inspired by people like me who also strive for the same interest
@@WillvonTagen does it work well with a gimbal? I'm considering getting a BMPCC for a documentary project that will be mostly shot with a gimbal or a tripod, and a bit worried about the lack of autofocus in an uncontrolled setting. The gimbal would solve the stabilisation issues but wondering if that doesn't make it more difficult to keep the image in focus? Thanks so much in advance if you have a minute to answer!
I bought one last year, it's now my B Camera, but I shot a boatload of footage on this thing, super versatile camera with great image quality, and you can rig this guy out wonderfully.
I really liked this video. I think the message is clear: if you want to make movies, this can work. Don't focus on the technology, focus on the craft. Well done. I would recommend this video to my students or anyone that wants to make movies.
RUclips algorithm is being very good lately, glad it showed me your video amidst the R5 A7Siii review craze. Will defo look into BMPCC OG, loved the video, tons of great advise ^^
Your presentation is so well done. I felt like you were talking to me. You left out the cutesy stuff and just explained the merits of this camera in 2020 and how to take advantage of it. Thank you!!!
You did an awesome job brother. I'm with you. These new age wanna be DPs are too lazy to create. They are caught up on camera manufacturer hype and any large number with a K at the end of it. SMDH...They want to rely on the camera to do everything and they just hit record button. I come from film. Where your camera gives you what you design by the way you light it and create with it. I shot a full feature with the Canon 60D and till today, no one believes I shot that with a 60D...Some said Sony F3, some said Red Scarlet. But I shot it with a 60D. Camera doesn't make a film, is the person behind the camera that creates the image and a camera is just a tool to captures it.
Superb. I shot quite a few scenes with this camera before I had to sell it in 2016. Lately I’ve been looking at the BMC 4K but watching this makes me realise how much I miss it.
@@WillvonTagen- also hard to go wrong with your videos! Without exaggeration or doubt, you are posting the most informative and valuable videos on film production I have ever seen. Of the things you say which i know, you echo my thoughts exactly, and of things you say that I didn't know, you are pulling back the curtain. Thank you, please carry on.
Very inspiring and motivating video for people like me, that are just starting! I would appreciate it so much if you can do more videos about this camera! There is something about it that made fall in love with it without even owning one! Thank you !
I’ve had this camera since 2014 and i still love it till this day! Its such a shame Blackmagic got them out of production. I wish they kept making them or atleast update it and keep the same housing. This camera’s a dream!
I agree, as is truly a pocket camera. The 4K is barely pocket size. They should kept the production for this and also kept the 1080p to keep it as a consumer camera.
I think any camera you feel comfortable with will serve you well. If you build it up right I see no reason why it wouldn't work--but be sure you have a lens with IS or a full shoulder rig. Thanks for watching!
I used the Red Epic-X 5K. This was in the summer of 2014 when we filmed it. Yes! Lee was great! I think you hear the story of how I hired him in my other video on casting :)
Will von Tagen I watched the video after I wrote this comment lol... I loved that video also man... Really touched on things I never knew. I would inbox actors on IG and get crazy rates... Like one actor who’s name is not as big ass Lee Major’s, quoted me $50k for 3 days...
Thank you thank you. I was lucky enough to be given this camera. Not being a film person I found you video very informative , even if I am not going down your line of work, I will be going down the broadcasting live route... so keep up the great videos, for people like me that just need that little help. Carl
Thanks Carl! I actually got my start in Broadcasting--with almost 4 years with the NBC affiliates in Reno and Boise. Let me know if there are any videos you would like to see addressing topics in that field!
Will von Tagen Thanks Will for the reply. I am currently working for BBC (Wales) but my passion is beach Volleyball and while I am decommissioning the Old BBC broadcasting building I have the opportunity to have a lot of old unneeded equipment and what i am trying to do is setup videoing live streaming of ALL the courts at my new beach volleyball centre...so any advice tutorials always welcome.
We got a Arri Alexa a while back, and i love it, but missed my old BMPCC so i just picket one up, i had one back in the day. But its crazy how well it holds up against the Alexa!!
@@WillvonTagen The price is going down on the alexa. Trust me i NEVER thought i would own an alexa, but we lucked out. I am so happy with the pocket, we did a coolor match test between the og pocket, the 6k pocket and alexa. It held up like a champ :)
I just picked one up last week! I'm amazed at how this camera looks. Also with the raw you can switch to the gen 4 color science. It's an absolute steal. Been loving the videos lately, I'd like to see a video of your practical lighting setups, specifically to use in a a micro budget feature setting. Thanks!
Absolutely! I was just matching the OG to my 4K last week after filming an interview and the gen4 synced it right up! Amazing. Yes, i have had a few requests for lighting videos! I will try and get to one soon :) Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this good video! It's been a while that I want to get my hands on it. But they are becoming expensive. It will be an amazing upgrade from my G7. These blackmagic colors are sooo good. Did you use it to film 'Almosting It' ? It looks amazing. It was a pleasure to come across your video !
They are great cameras and I think you will enjoy it after the G7 :) I used to pocket for "Heritage" (my second film). Almosting It was actually shot on a RED Epic-MX. In a lot of ways I did prefer the BMPCC over the RED, but the RED is certainly an amazing tool as well :)
@@WillvonTagen Oh thanks for the answer, the RED Epic-MX is definitly an amazing camera as well. Heritage's footage is really good, the BMPCC is fantastic. Greetings from France :)
Awesome video just found your channel. I was looking on ebay here in the states I did not see anything close to your price point but maybe in the future ill get lucky!
nice vid well done. I first saw that camera advertised in shutterbug magazine years ago and have always wanted one. will the first generation shoot raw video?
Hi! Yes it does shoot raw. Keep in mind this is actual, DNG Raw and not like the BRAW that the new 4k shoots. DNG is actually better, but requires some workaround with the edits.
Thanks for the great video on the original BMPCC. Especially addressing low light with this camera. I’ve recently expanded my creative media agency with services in video and filmmaking. Even within my budget limitations I was able to purchased 4 of the original pocket cameras at a price that I consider to be a steal. I recently started shooting music videos and local TV commercials, as a one-man production, I’ll set up all 4 cameras, one fully rigged camera on a tripod, one camera on a slider, one camera on a gimbal and a fourth camera on a shoulder rig. During a shoot I don’t have the need to strip down a camera from the tripod and re-rig it for the slider or balance it on a gimbal, Using multiple cameras this way, gives me freedom to quickly choose/change angles and shots during production...moving from one camera to another and then back-and-forth.
Really enjoyed the video. I've had my bmpcc since 2013 and the one issue I've yet to resolve is battery life. I haven't seen many people exploring the Juicebox Magic Power 2.0 and I'm curious if that's because there is something less than ideal about it or if it isn't well known. The price is comparable to the solution you've put in this video and it seems to be more of an all-in-one solution, which I think would be easier for mounting.
I bought one about a year ago. I love it! The picture quality is as good as the 4k and 6k, only with the common (but minor) flaws of 1080p. Then again, who really focuses enough to lose clarity? It works seamlessly with Divinci Resolve too. The only problem I had is that it overheats sometimes. I enjoy it ALMOST as much as my Canon EOS 750D (the GOAT budget camera).
@@noodlessoul8356, A Canon EOS 750D, is the best multipurpose camera I've ever seen, even by today's standards. Fact: Canon EOS DSLRs are commonly used to shoot b-roll for Marvel Comics movies. Out of the box, it's great for blogging and films. The video quality is so good that minimal post-production is necessary. Get it and a GOOD lens, and you can shoot anything. Also, it never overheats, the battery life is decent, and it shoots very well in low light. All you need is a few extra batteries, and you're set. You pick up a used body for around $500 and a cheap Canon 50mm lens for about $100.
Love your info. Thou sadly seems like this camera on eBay is pretty expensive about $500 from what I am seeing. Has the demand gone up? Seems like a few guys with recent videos have suggested this camera. I am thinking if it costs over $500 for this camera might buy the 4K newer version ??
yeah it definitely has spiked recently, check craigslist mercari offerup and other places for it. There were some on mercari a few weeks ago for 300ish
Thanks man! The 4K is a fantastic and maybe (if you need it for client work) a better route, but It will end up costing you much more than $500 extra. All the "add-ons" are a bit pricier to get the 4K rigged and ready for full use.
Yes they have been going up in price as everyone is now seeing how good they are compared to other camera systems. They used them on The Avengers Age of Ultron because they are closest in latitude to the Arri Alexa. It was a D cam, but still!
yeah, all well put and I am very close to pull the trigger and buy it back :), great tool for filmmakers BUT those prices of that camera are going crazy recently, what happened ?
I love this video... I needed to hear every word you said here bro... I have a few questions do you think we should really focus on someone like Netflix to purchase our films or just market, promoting and monetize our own projects?
Thats a good question. I think first and foremost focus on making the best film possible. If you accomplish that then finding a buyer should come fairly easily. Netflix is a GREAT goal, but don't spend too much time chasing the things you can't control--focus rather on what you can, like making the movie. I did some initial self distribution of both my movies and to be honest, that is where I made most of the money back on them. But having distribution will carry a lot of validity on its own and will help you down the road when working on future projects.
Will von Tagen I appreciate it... tonight, I watched “Heritage” on Prime and I couldn’t find “Almosting it” on Prime but did find it on Tubi TV... They both were entertaining, my wife and I enjoyed them both. Heritage looked just as good on BMPCC as the other film shot on RED...
Will von Tagen It seems making film is really a passion you must have and not worry about making a living Doing it. It’s something that could happen but can we really count on making more than Our initial investment. I ask because I’m also a music producer and RnB soul singer and I’ve been making a good living selling my music from the trunk of my car like MC Hammer did, but I made a career out it since 1998... I sell 8 hours a day within a 50 mile radius of my home and I sell 40-90 CDs everyday. Plus I produce and mix records for other artist for a fee. Music Streams/Downloads And shooting music videos for other artist bring in other income... I tried selling my film from the trunk but the music seems to sales 70% more than the film. I’m not sure why, I’m guessing the people feel their getting a full album of 15 songs as opposed to 1 movie, so they have better odds of liking something for the cash they spent on an unknown artist/Film maker. But I’m only speculating. What’s your thoughts on this?
This video is fantastic, as are your other videos. Question: How would the original BMPCC work together with Panasonic Lumix 12-35mm and the Viltrox EF-M2 II SpeedBooster 0.71x Adapter Canon EF to MFT?
Hey Kent. Unfortunately not, the Panasonic 12-35mm is only available in the native MFT Mount. Only EF Mount lenses will couple with an EF Speedbooster to the BMPCC. However the 12-35 covers almost all focal lengths you would need without needing a speed booster. If you are trying to go wider, consider the 9mm 2.8 or 7.5mm 2.0 from Laowa. Either one could be found for between $350-500 USD used and are fantastic lenses :)
@@WillvonTagen You're fantastic, Will. We're planning a micro budget movie, and the wide angle concern is due to a lot of the story taking place inside a car, so this is very useful info. I very excitedly told my main collaborator about your channel. He'll also thank you for your help, and best of luck with whatever projects you're working on.
@@kentjensen4504 wow, thank you! And that’s exciting about the upcoming project, good luck! FYI, If you do decide to go with 7.5mm, pay a little bit more for the cine “zero distortion” version. For wide, establishing shots the normal would be enough, but inside of a car (especially with movement) you might see some bending. This wouldn’t be the case with the zero D 7.5mm (about the same price as the 9mm-which is also zero D but a stop slower). Glad this helps and thanks again.
Great to see this! Just ordered my OG pocket cinema camera and have a question. Seen and heard alot about the HDMI port being weak, do you advise still to use a an external monitor with clamps for the wire? If so which one you recommend?
Yes, the HDMI Micro port generally works fine but it is extremely fragile--and if broken can cost more than the camera to replace. I suggest getting a camera cage that has "port cable locks" so that the cable cannot jiggle or get yanked. I used to have a "pigtail" that was a Micro-to-Normal HDMI adapter and I left that locked in so I only had to plug and unplug a normal sized cable. As for which monitor, it depends on your budget. SmallHD-501 is about the best in my book, but I have a Fotga A50T that only costs about 150-. The build quality feels very cheap but it is bright and accurate, and the price is certainly low.
Thanks man! I appreciate it! Congrats on getting a great deal, I hope you keep having fun with it and creating! (cool channel btw! I had a coin collection when I was younger :) )
I own and use a BMPCC OG. For your feature films, what audio equipment do you use? I’m in the process of making a feature on a budget and I don’t know what boom mic to get. I already have an H4N Zoom recorder.
For the first round of principle photography we had a pretty pro kit--but I am not sure what all was included. However, for a number of reshoots (60% of the final film) we did use a stripped down budget kit. I would recommend the H6N over the H4N, as having the ability to dial the input levels of each track while filming is crucial. Beyond that we had 2x Sennheiser ew 100 Wireless Lav microphones as well as a mix of Rode NTG3 and Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun mics (depending on when the filming was occurring). All actors had a wireless on as backup with the boom serving as the main source. The boom was just a cheap, carbon fiber pole off of Amazon--I don't recall the brand at the moment. Remember--you can always sell your gear after the shoot. And if you purchase used--often you can resell it for exactly what you paid. So stretch that dollar as far as you can, and even if you don't think you can afford something, remember: you can look at it as more of a "free rental" after resale and only get gear on project-to-project basis. Sound is very important--so definitely try your best to get "good enough" gear and ideally someone who has experience field recording. Get the shotgun as close as possible to your actors.
I am rocking my Magic Lantern equipped $100 EOS M which after todays update shoots 2.7K RAW 24p. Even 5K with lower frame rates. APS-C with a $80 speedbooster makes it 1.1x crop - almost FF. I think it’s the better deal for a cheap mirrorless.
This is the third time I watch this video Finally after having bought it myself, with two vintage cine lenses Looking forward to learning how to use it
@@SuperEchinacea Turn on the focus peaking for sure. But also--a little known trick--if you double-click the "ok" button it will punch in on the image for easier focusing ;)
liked and subbed. Great vid man, and smooth natural delivery! I got one of these last year on the recommendation of my teacher. He showed me the link and I was like "Noel, that's 7 years old" He just looked at me and repeated, "this is the camera you want" I'm still learning, and like you said, the curve was pretty steep. Just about 25% through a Udemy grading course, and it's really starting to open my eyes to the possibilities. Best of luck!
Great video. I considered selling my BMPCC but have kept it to experiment with raw video and DaVinci Resolve. It is a great educational tool in that aspect.
I had never thought much about this camera i may have to find one i can borrow and try out for a C camera. I shoot bands so low light is important and often i have no control there, but this may still be ok. Worth a shot anyway.
Sure! Try it out. If this is the stage camera where you have a lot of lights it shouldn't be a problem. Could also be easy to hide on stage for a live performance.
Fantastic breakdown, Will! Much love and appreciation for you, brother! I'm most definitely picking up one of these little cinematic beasts. Best Wishes
Fantastic presentation thank you! :) I hope to be able to pick it up in the future! Does this camera have aliasing and moire problems and are there different debayering settings available? How is rolling shutter? I expect the sensor resolution to be native, so there is no further crop mode am i right? :)
No further crop options. Rolling shutter is only a problem if you are "bare bones" hand held (no rig) and no OIS lens (especially at telephoto). I've had a few instances where Moire on certain textures, but there is an easy fix for that in Resolve--just look for some tutorials.
first congratulations on the video! I have a question about the HDMI output, I would like to know if it has a clean HDMI output to use on an external recorder or even on the capture card.
That's a good question.. I don't know the answer unfortunately I have only ever used internal recording options. I think you can record via the hdmi but only in the prores options. However I could be wrong.
I love this camera. I got two. Then the 4k and then a URSA 4.6 k g2. So you can say I'am a fan of blackmagic camera. Anyway I continue to use the BMPCC especially during my trip. But I have to say that I would not recommend to buy it today because of the memory card. It is quite impossible to found today. The actual generation of SD card is no longer compatible. See blackmagic forum about this issue. If you are lucky you may found an old generation but it is not for sure. It's s a shame. Blackmagic doesn't really care and memory manufacturer says Blackmagic has to update his driver. So, do not buy it if there is no tested memory card available....
I have good news for you! Tomorrow I am releasing a video thats covers EXACTLY this issue and I have 3 cards to recommend that can be purchased new! (and 2 that are still well within the low-budget realm) :) And yes! I love BM all around! Just got back from a shoot today with the 4K using old FD Primes. A beautiful combination!
In the past I used an Alphatron. Right now I am looking at getting a Zacuto (still deciding between the gratical HD, EYE, or Kameleon.. What do you use?
Yo btw can you make a video on how to finance your project? Because yeah sure, you may not need a huge budget like these big movies, but what about other stuff? Locations, if someone needs to stay somewhere, marketing, distribution. There are costs everywhere and they stack up.
I've been thinking about buying this camera but still haven't. I really love the BMPCC 4k. I think the BMPCC has to be used in the right hands because I've seen some nice footage of it here in YT but I've seen more bad ones. Anyways, good content man. Just subscribed. Plus I appreciate that you actually do films and have them streaming unlike many so called filmmakers who just do a lot of tech talk but never have anything to show. I'll be seeing Heritage soon. Stay safe.
Hi Will. Congratulations for your work, movies, everything. Great shots! A question: I using the BMPCC original for my films. I really want to know what is the top what you can expect from this little "Magic"camera. I know that you have a lot of experience with BMPCC OG. The movie Almosting it was shot entirely with the original BMPCC? Greetings, Neogray
Hi Neogray. Almosting It was shot with a RED, but my second film, HERITAGE, was shot on the BMPCC OG. It is still my favorite camera and if you build it up I believe it can definitely hold its own with any big-budget system. Just be sure you have enough power, monitoring essentials and a good lens or 2 and you will be able to produce magic. Heritage played briefly in a couple Independent theaters and on a big screen the image looks just as good any a RED or ARRI.
I love the way u explain the camera and actually i bought one and you know here in our country only a few knows this camera and i guess i was the only one who had like this camera because of it's power as a cinema camera
Cheers! I learnt so much. I'm new to all this photography and video stuff; covid19 has thrust me into it, and I really appreciate your time. You've inspired me to get something and to shoot in manual
I think this video just because my new "intro bible" to the BMPCC OG (and I hate that we have to add that now, to get any useful google searches for the OG.) I've had my camera for almost 5 years, and I've been struggling with how to set it up for me so that I'm gonna be happy. I have a 19mm MFT lens that works great, but I have to move if I want to change my field of view, it gets lame...I just picked up a 12-35 thanks to this video ($350, from Japan, and it looks like it's never been used). That was the last piece of the puzzle. I have Canon glass, but not in the 12-35 range, which makes this setup just about perfect.
Give this one a look: amzn.to/2LKA0Kx As with anything budget, it isn't perfect. But it is pretty solid for the price. For 20- less, the one from newer is also pretty decent: amzn.to/2J0A4os
Great review, great camera. I prefer to use BMPCC with Zeiss manual fast lenses (Biotar and Tevidon). It's amazing to see a 30-60 year old lens in action with this camera. The results are very interesting.
I just put together a set of canon FD Primes for my other BM. I will be curious to try them on the original pocket as well! Vintage glass is always a special way to go :)
@@WillvonTagen Very interesting, can you specify these lenses in more detail? Aperture, focus? I want to test these lenses as well. I'm currently modifying cheap Yashica glasses for the BMPCC, I'm looking forward to the first shots.
I've used a few monitors with this, and I think it depends on your needs. I think right now the SmallHD FOCUS (5 in) is a great compact option. If you are in need of something more low budget--I actually use a FOTGA AT50 with my other rigs. It is very cheap (about $150) and feels a bit plasticy, but it is bright, has some cool options and gets the job done. If are fine with buying used I think the SmallHD 501/502 is a great monitor and a great price used.
damn needed that video like 6months ago... i bought the bmpcc4k. like yes its great, butnto great for me, file sizes and the camera itself. i love to film trips with friends and damn this little thing would be perect for that
Dude... I watched this entire video thinking you had a million subscribers or something. Blown away by your candidness and insight. Definitely subscribing. I'm really interested in learning cinematography at a deeper level. I currently own a Sony A7iii but I was looking for a cheap cine set up. Would you still recommend this for me? Thank you again!
Wow, thank you! Yes, the channel is pretty new and I am only doing it in my spare time right now. Thanks for the support! The a7iii is a great camera, but I have never been a fan of Sony's color science--especially that you have to shoot in such a high ISO to get the most from Log. I think it depends on what your Cine needs will be. This is definitely an outstanding option and gives some of the best images possible, but as I say--it can be a bit tricky when first starting off. If you have patience and can add some of the supplementary peripherals I mentioned I think it could definitely be a game changer for your output--and a nice variation from your Sony. Stay tuned, in a couple of days I am releasing a new video discussing the memory cards for this camera. Thanks again!

Got mine off eBay for about $500 with a few lenses. Just started filming my first short with it with a couple of friends. Love it so much, thanks for convincing me to go this route!
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy!
I have been working with the BMPCC OG since 2017.
I have been looking for this channel ever since then, and I'm filled with so much gratitude for you making this.
Thanks for watching!
You never forget your first. I still have mine. The image is magical.
Pure Magic ;)
Great opening. "Sell your phone, and buy this."
Nothing wrong with voicing opinions. It makes these 'tubes more interesting.
Hahaha, thanks! :)
It's a great camera :) I'm always surprised when ever I fire it up again.
how does this upscaling really work ? what are the downsides in comparison to the p4k camera? thanks for sharing some light at this aspect! :)
This is the most uplifting video on cinematography and low budget filmmaking I have ever seen. Thank you.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
100% agree with you. The original BMPCC is way more cinematic than latest ones... thanks for the video
It's hard to go wrong with BMD :)
Thanks so much for the kind words and detailed comment! I hope others find it useful as well :) Good luck!

Of course! Such a great camera :)
Hi, I need to say : THANKS for telling a big truth (in my opinion), that dark is dark, night is night, YES it is. People should watch the classics movies. Now my anxiety for iso, exposition, lighting is gone !
Merci dear, and your shots are superbes !
Thank you!
Fortunate to own one of these when I found one being sold on social media. The filmic / cinematic look is still awesome to this day.
That's great! :)
I really liked this video. I think the message is clear: if you want to make movies, this can work. Don't focus on the technology, focus on the craft. Well done. I would recommend this video to my students or anyone that wants to make movies.

The 4K is also an mazing camera. Hard to go wrong with anything from BM :)

Agreed! Probably my favorite camera to use.
I agree, as is truly a pocket camera. The 4K is barely pocket size. They should kept the production for this and also kept the 1080p to keep it as a consumer camera.
Great video and very informative. Do you think this camera is good for a wedding filmmaker? Love to hear your take on it. Thanks Will.
I think any camera you feel comfortable with will serve you well. If you build it up right I see no reason why it wouldn't work--but be sure you have a lens with IS or a full shoulder rig. Thanks for watching!

Awesome video just found your channel. I was looking on ebay here in the states I did not see anything close to your price point but maybe in the future ill get lucky!
With a bit of patience (and keeping you search setting to "new listed" and "buy now" you can still find goos deals. I saw one go for 400- last week.
nice vid well done.
That's fantastic! Congrats on getting such a great deal!
The Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera is still the favourite camera for Film Students. A host of CCTV lenses are still out there.
Great camera 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Will, as an avid BMPCC fan it's great to see another channel raving about it in a world crammed with spec-chasing.
Thank you! I appreciate the support :) :)
Cannot agree more about specs chasing marketing hype etc.
By far the best review on this camera. Thanks for not trying to get cute or politically correct or trying to be too smart!
Hahaha, thanks Jeff! I appreciate it :)
I own all of the first gen cameras. They're terrific!
Agreed! :)
Totally agree, it's a great camera. Thanks for watching!
You prefer the Canon DSLR? Why goat?
Too many of us made videos about them, lol. Oops!
Nice video bro! Do you have the link for your feature film or its trailer shot on the BMPCC?
Thanks man! The trailer is on this channel, just look under my videos--it is called Heritage.
You made so many good points here, and just about this gorgeous camera. Solid advice.
Thanks for watching :)
@@WillvonTagen I will find that one. Terrific. I see you're in Germany. I'm Norwegian and in Norway, so fairly next door. :)

Sounds like a great combo!

Can you do a video on the best gimbals for the Bmpcc og?
Great video. I considered selling my BMPCC but have kept it to experiment with raw video and DaVinci Resolve. It is a great educational tool in that aspect.
Such a great way to learn :)
I have the 4k and had the original pocket. Was a nice camera but not a touch on the 4K. Nice nostalgic buy, but why anyone would bother now not sure.
The 4k is definitely an amazing too, no questions there!

@@WillvonTagen thank you very much! :)
first congratulations on the video!
(and 2 that are still well within the low-budget realm) :)
And yes! I love BM all around! Just got back from a shoot today with the 4K using old FD Primes. A beautiful combination!
Very nice shoulder rig. What EVF are you using?
In the past I used an Alphatron. Right now I am looking at getting a Zacuto (still deciding between the gratical HD, EYE, or Kameleon.. What do you use?
Yo btw can you make a video on how to finance your project? Because yeah sure, you may not need a huge budget like these big movies, but what about other stuff? Locations, if someone needs to stay somewhere, marketing, distribution. There are costs everywhere and they stack up.
I'm getting there :) I wanted to build the channel a bit first before diving in to the deep end of things :) Thanks for watching and stay tuned.
Stay safe.
Thanks man, I appreciate that :)
@@WillvonTagen Hi Will. Thanks a lot!
@@WillvonTagen I just watched the Heritage trailer. I m SHOCKED 😲! You are a great cinematographer even with a low budget camera! Congratulations!
@@NEOGRAYFILMS Thank you very much my friend :)
I love the way u explain the camera and actually i bought one and you know here in our country only a few knows this camera and i guess i was the only one who had like this camera because of it's power as a cinema camera
Fantastic video, very fair, comprehensive and well explained
Thank you! :)
They need to relaunch this camera
Agreed
Cheers! I learnt so much. I'm new to all this photography and video stuff; covid19 has thrust me into it, and I really appreciate your time. You've inspired me to get something and to shoot in manual
Fantastic! So glad you found it useful :) Have fun!
I think this video just because my new "intro bible" to the BMPCC OG (and I hate that we have to add that now, to get any useful google searches for the OG.)
I've had my camera for almost 5 years, and I've been struggling with how to set it up for me so that I'm gonna be happy.
Any budget tripod you'd recommend? :) subscribed!
Give this one a look: amzn.to/2LKA0Kx
As with anything budget, it isn't perfect. But it is pretty solid for the price. For 20- less, the one from newer is also pretty decent: amzn.to/2J0A4os
please tell BM design to relaunch it. its so small and portable. Id totally by it
I'll see what I can do ;)
Great review, great camera.
Hi there. What external monitor do you use with your BMPCC? thank you and loved your review. Keep it up!
@@WillvonTagen Thank you so much, that was very helpful!
The OG blackmagic cameras were a different breed. The original BMCC 2K and BMPCC nothing like these ever again
So good!
damn needed that video like 6months ago... i bought the bmpcc4k. like yes its great, butnto great for me, file sizes and the camera itself. i love to film trips with friends and damn this little thing would be perect for that
Such a wonderful camera! Thanks for watching :)
