My favourite discovery of mine (within sensible distance from Sol) is HR 8119 It's a real (not procedural) blue supergiant in the Cepheus constellation that I got first discovery on. Has landable bodies, quite high above the galactic plane, very black skies with this one incredibly bright, almost LED or laser like star in the sky. Very purple. It's quite remote so route plotting might not like taking you there, might need to plot in small chunks. Good luck, love your videos o7
It's an egg world! edit: Just rewatched and saw it's tidally locked. Since it's so close, that really must be the effects of gravity, not graphics. Free range egg world confirmed!
You could have gone into the ship when it was hovering. They will do that if they can't find a landing zone within about 500 meters of your location. Evidence for solar tidal forces on extremely tight orbits distorting planets? Possibly I think. If so, it's pretty impressive that Stellar Forge has that included.
I dont think so - if it was gravitational stress, since the planet is tidally locked, it wouldnt be distorted so symmetrically. I think that it's because the planet has to rotate so fast to be tidally locked, it ends up with that shape.
One of my favourite discoveries was: Hypoe Bluae VP-O e6-8688 (Dances with Giants) a system whereby two gas giants orbit so close together that they share some stunning views of one another!
David Cooper that’s amazing. I want to see that. I haven’t done any exploring at all. Started playing about two weeks ago, and I just grinded LTD mining so I have like 640mil, a few nice ships. But idk I kinda want to explore. I usually play alone because my friend that got me into it doesn’t even play lol I wanna see the black hole in Sag A* and everything. Do you play often?
I have an acutal interesting place... NGC 1931 SECTOR DL-Y D51 E Its only a pair of binary stars but they are fun to fly round coz its dam dangerous.... would def be part of a race if it was closer to the bubble
I recommend a visit to GCRV 4981. It’s a small little system that went supernova and so forming the small Eskimo Nebula around it. It contains a black hole and the view and colourplay available is sooooo freaking awesome. A truely astonishing place to see. Due to it’s close distance to the bubble it’s a good spot you can visit even if your ship is not fully engeneered for exploration . Have fun and save travels o7
Haven't checked since last time I was there back in September 2018. Have to go 'Old School' to find it as DSS won't pick it up. Location is in the Ngulungbara system, 1st body, Lat 27.55 / Long 120.27. Graphical artifact or 'Monolith' is located there.
Watching you trying to find somewhere to land around the 3 minute mark reminds me of something about ED that has come to annoy me quite a bit lately. When I recall the ship from orbit using my SRV, the onboard AI always finds somewhere pretty damned close to my location that is suitable for landing. I wish you could get a HUD popup of suitable landing spots while piloting the ship yourself, since clearly your ship already has the capability of picking them out on its own.
Another system I'd recommend visiting is: Dryau Ausms KG-Y e3390, or how me and a buddy dubbed it 'The Dryau Awesomes', which the first handful of worlds have crazy orbits, especially the small gas giant whereby it's moons are somehow orbiting well within its Roche Limit zone, adding for some crazy views!
I found a planet that's orbit is so fast that you can hardly keep it on target for a surface scan, you can watch it move from normal space. So cool, location: PUEKIE AG-F C11-19 B 1 - CMDR KillGhar
Formorian Frontier, PLAA BRIAE EW-N D6-59, a triple triple, three water worlds by themselves, no other planets, orbiting three stars in the middle. Rare configuration to say the least.
@ 6:26 If u put on parking brake, while on ship, i hear, you stay in the air. @ 9:42 I've seen another planet shaped like that before. It was really small if I remember correctly. I could and did land on my planet. Once on the surface the ob long feature was not noticeable.
I guess no planets are perfecting spherical due to rotation flatening them out via centrifugal force. It's great to ponder the vastness and infinite possibilities of an never ending universe. 07 Cmdr!
As an asronomy nerd, i think i might have a good idea as to whats going on here. It could be tidal forces, yes, But i think we are actually seeing centrifugal forces at a play here. The same force that lets large spinning stations have artificial gravity. I think this is the case because of how fast the planet is orbiting around that brown dwarf. If that is indeed the case, it would mean that the equator would have lower gravity compared to the poles.
We have a dwarf planet in our own solar system shaped like that called Haumea, which is out in the Kuiper Belt. But something that large, clearly not made of ice, in that shape is a bit umm, unusual.
Mine would have to be the IC 1805 SECTOR DQ-Y E3 And only because of the beautiful view it has when you get close to it. There was another one but I can't remember which system it was in but it was a asteroid impact that well was visible from about 7Mm away.
I need to get Horizons, ASAP. Exploring planets is gonna be amazing. I remember finding two gas clusters (IDK what they are called) with crystals in it. One was bright purple mist with a more irregular shape. The other was a beautiful dense blue gas in a crescent shape. With tons of crystals and little potato looking creatures that shriek when you bump into them. The correct terms for all of these escapes me because this was like 3 months back, and I didn't write it down anywhere.
@@samarkand1585 Yeah, I found them when I had a Diamond Back Explorer. I remember they were labeled "Notable Stellar Phenomena" on the signal map. Don't remember the system though.
That depends on what you mean by "really long distance." 1k used to be a long distance to me, now I travel 3-5k on a whim, and it feels like nothing. So I have no idea where you're at as an explorer. But my first expedition outside of the bubble was to Witch Head Nebula, which I used for practice, and that I ultimately named my Exploration Ship after. Betelgeuse is another good target. If those seem too close for you, then it may be time to see Sagittarius A*
Thank you, I'm just trying to get up to elite in at least one category, but I don't just want it handed to me, and trading seems like it will take ages to get there. I'm gonna try my hand at exploration and have already respec'd my Asp Explorer to the "No Engineering" build you made a video on.
Suggestion: NGC 40 STAR, the centre of the bow-tie nebula. A dying wolf rayet star ejected dust in a nebula over 1 ly across. It has no planets unfortunately, and from the nearest system to it, 68 ly away, one might confuse it for a neutron star and its jet cones. I recommend some FSD injections as the star density is really low. But the sight is worth it.

This sense of scale and beauty is what sets ED apart from other space based games. Nice video.
Sean Kayll Only in VR. On a monitor it's just a flat miniature cartoon.
You can board your ship even if it's not landed, as long as you manage to align with the bay correctly.
You can bring it up solo too if you have geysers and low gravity.
It looks like the gravity of that small star is stretching it because it's so close. Great video though. o7
Yeah tidal stress
Wow, I'm a professional also. One time I tumbled for about two minutes. Good to know I'm not the only one.

I found a Water Giant tonight, something I never knew existed. I'm heading out to Colsack tomorrow.
I wish they had heart icons on youtube. Excellent video. Interesting AND funny AF. Thanks for helping me forget about the... man, I forgot. >.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many 'things' in this game. Just think of the back end data structure to hold it all. Crazy :-)

That planet has silicate vapor as an atmosphere because it's so HOT. We're talking vaporized rock, straight up rock gas, that's how hot it is
You can still board a ship that refuses to land I recently found out!!
the second planet looks like an egg xD

On my way to Colonia i found a system of a Black Hole and twin Neutron Stars rotating around each other. Are those rare?
you should go back to oblong now that odyssey has atmospheric landings
Surface pressure of 6.4 million might be a little abnormal...
Saw a white gas giant 5000 ls from its star look much the same way I called it space egg
it is probably stretched by tidal forces
@Supulcher Geist what would you recommend as a target destination for a first really long distance exploration trip?

Yup its squished
There are lots of highly elliptical worlds in the game, but most of them are gas giants... HMC's are much much more rare.
