I think this is one of their best songs ever the lyricks wow i have always loved the hollies one of my fav 60s group the dont make songs like this anymore
This song was first performed by Peter Paul and Mary as a folk song. It's on their 1963 album "In the Wind." This original version is also on RUclips, sung live by PP&M. The Hollies do such a great job of covering the song, and I especially love the guitar solo by Hicks.
I love the guitar solo by Tony Hicks too. It conveys that innocently displayed drive to excel in front of the camera. This is apparently a studio version. What year did it come out?
Wasn't it?Very surprising. In Sweden it reached 3rd place on the sales list and stayed high up most of it's 13 weeks there. Bus Stop was on the chart at the same time but reached no 1 and stayed there for 2 weeks but it was just 10 weeks on the list. Hollies was always very popular in Sweden and I loved them.
So I've listened to this version Vs the beat club version. The studio version is much darker, almost sinister but the beat club version is more fun - Graham Nash is clearly trying to make Allan laugh and you hear Tony's guitar solo better. I'd really like to hear a stereo remixed version of this song, I reckon it would kick ass.....!!!!!!!
Rock music.
ManzannaSaotome43 Tony Hicks is the most underrated guitarist in pop-history.Most people see him as the Hollies babyface because of his good looks, but he is an excellent musician
I wonder if any more modern artists have done heavier covers of this song. Some bands I could think of are Motorhead, Metallica, Live, Blind Guardian, Rush and quite a few others
I wish the bass was much higher in the mix. Eric Haycock had a virtuosity on the bass guitar that Bernie Calvert simply could not touch. If you listen to the beat club performance, the bass is loud and sounds fantastic but if it had been Eric, it would have been perfection!
I thought Eric had left. I read somewhere that The Hollies would record with session bassist, like Jack Bruce, and tour with other bassist like Klaus Voorman.
Another killer top harmony by Graham Nash.
So beautiful and wonderful love you guys always
Hollies were really the goods. And this song is soooo good. Alan Clarkes voice is so exciting.
LOVE THiS!
My favorite band of all time.
Everone there is fabulous
Allan Clarke is simply the BEST!
His voice is like velvet, so smooth, love it
Oh, Alan’s voice is magical ! And of course together with Graham is gold !!!!!
Magnificent band of the sixties, Allan Clarke’s voice is so good and strong and so recognizing for the Hollies!!!
Tony Hicks was pure britpop 30 years before Britpop was a thing. One of the Hollies best songs
Johnny Marr from the Smiths was influenced by Tony
Tony is one of the Best Hollies!

0:03 Love that late entry

Why in God's name was this never released as a single in UK sure this would have done very well in charts

Я только сегодня открыла эту песню для себя, как-будто сокровище откопала! Давно слушаю Hollies, но именно эта ни разу не попадалась.
лучшая их песня..
Allan Clark hermosa voz
1:45 Johnny Marr's biggest influence

Great of all time
Every body is going to pray on jugment day..
めっちゃカッコイイ!
Like this version better better than P P& M's. I swear the Hollies use more verses.
Same verses as PP&M. I’ve sung it in church with my guitar.

Disagree.

I think the instrumental is what’s throwing you off.

No, it's the differentverses.
I really like the camera angle...makes me feel as if...well, never mind!! ;)

the only cover i know of is by the barracudas
There is a cover by Vicky Leandros and it is very good.
Oh Jesus, Graham Hash straps on the white Telecaster once again. Why? Leave it out!

Every time I listen to the Hollies, I’m wishing the bass had been recorded louder in the mix. On some of their recordings it’s hard to hear it at all.
@@KieroUnasBotasAGoGo Yes, Eric is on the studio version.
@@yesman2755 The bass being turned down only started after Bernie joined the group (mid-1966).
