Thank you so much for your input. I love that you deliver genuine insight and actual analysis that best informs my own decision rather than just blindly recommending a traditionally “better” lens based on specs alone. You actually take into account the needs and preferences of the photographer and how it relates to the kit lens, which is exactly what I needed to know. Huge help!
For many hobbyists the 15-45mm kit lens will be a great starting point. It's relatively cheap and very compact to match the size of the M50. Canon have been quite smart in their choice of kit lens as the 15-45 is the full size equivalent of a 24-72, combining 3 lenses into one (wide angle, standard lens and portraitish lenses). It might not be the fastest or sharpest lens but it does a fine job if you work with those limitations. Thanks again The Crowley Crew.
the last lens I got with this camera before upgrading was the 22mm f2 and it was amazing. did most of my videos on those and it was amazing, but the 15-45 is a solid lens for this camera. it does everything you need and if you do post work, this lens is probably everything you need!
I am legit obsessed with the m50.. got it about a month ago - thanks to your videos I'm learning lots!!!
Bro , how is the battery life for you ?
@@scotsman_notes It’s pretty terrible for me. I’ve adjusted a few settings and now it’s reasonable but personally I would keep spare batteries with me.
I've actually also been appreciating the 15-45mm more and more! First I was like "pfft, F3.5 is way too high" so I bought the 22mm. But in a studio environment I keep going back to the 15-45mm, just for the wider range. Great video as always Job!
Keep up the great work! Your videos on the M50 are super helpful and one of the reasons behind why I got it and shoot with it! Cheers!
Great video. I loved how you jumped right into the topic at hand rather than “wasting” a minute or three on the non essential openers (skateboarding, cabinetry, etc).
It's 6 AM here in Indonesia. And I watch ur video once u uploaded it. I appreciate your works, putting your grind to M50 related videos.. keep it up, you deserve more subscribers
You’re awesome! Thank you so much!
Totally agree with everything is this video. I do love the Sigma 16 for the awesome image and 1.4 ap but this dang kit lens is so handy. Don't pass it up if you are in the market for an M50 it is pretty much free!!!
i agree the kit lens is good and i use it all the time, it's small but for my use, it's only usable up until the 17mm where it is still f/3.5
I think you hit the nail on the head with the comment about enabling what it is you need to be doing. Agonizing over additional purchases doesn't actually get the job done. Also, there is a benefit in using what you have, and MAKING it work for you rather than expecting to have a specific piece of gear for every scenario.
Thanks. I love new gear as much as the next guy but sometimes what you have is better than looking for the next greatest thing. I still find myself using the kit lens more than anything else.
@@TheCrowleyCrew I actually bought an M50 mk2 today and held off on buying the 11-22 lens for this reason. I did pick up the 28mm macro but I have specific uses for it. I think these two lenses will last me quite some time.
I agree, I use the kit lens alot for video, I only really change it if I'm doing photos or need a blurry background.
Definitely! The kit is definitely not as good for photos.
Your videos helped me become confident enough to record with my M50, thanks!
That’s what I love hearing!
Awesome advice and i love the part about if you are not getting the footage you want then gear is not the issue.
Yeah, not that better gear won’t make your stuff better, but good gear doesn’t fix bad footage.
Your image looks sharp to me. Did you ramp up the sharpness in post production or in the picture style settings of the m50?
I use the natural picture style with sharpness at 2 and the contrast and -4 and then I don’t do anything in post.
@@TheCrowleyCrew by natural, do you mean the standard?
This video was very helpful! Thank you so much for making it!
Your advice is worth more than I’m paying for it. Thanks,
I just picked up Fuji's consumer line XC 15-45mm kit lens to play around with on my Fujifilm X-T1. I have the Samyang 12mm F/2 and then the next size I had up was a 25mm lens, so the 15-45mm let's me play right in between those. I'm enjoying it so far.
Wish I would’ve watch this video before getting my m50 bundle. Live and learn. Great video!!!!
What happened?
I'm always inlove by how you pronounce every word that has letter 'r' 🤩🤩
First time watching one of your videos, and I swear your accent changed 3 times lol. Good info on video. :)
Thanks. It is just because I cannot pronounce my Rs.
@@TheCrowleyCrew Rs?
I speak English, an I have same problem with Spanish “r”s
It’s not the accent but the climate which gave a change to his accent 🤣🤣🤣
Lol
Great video as usual, I also have this kit lens, been using it on me travel, I like it because it is very versatile, it is really annoying to swap lenses everytime, you loose a bit of image quality, but it is a really nice lens ...
I agree.
I just got the M6ii with the 15-45mm kit lens today to have a small camera package when I'm out and about and don't feel like or just can't carry my 90D.
same here bro. the 15-45mm just fine in day time it's really good.
Great, no nonsense video, good stuff !
Thank you!
totally worth it.. infact, i did a behind the scenes video shooting beautiful model on the beach just using this kit lens
I bought the M50 with the kit lens about 12 months ago and i was quite ok with it.
I found it to be ideal for vlogging, i very rarely take photo's as i'm still learning the ropes in that area.
Checking out various tutorials and comments on forums about the M50, i took the advice of one such commenter and bought the 11-22 lens, which on reflection, maybe i shouldn't have.
I didn't find it much improved anything i was using the camera for, which as i mentioned, was mainly vlogging and filming footage along with my drone.
I've hardly used the 11-22, as i find the 15-45 kit lens does everything i need it to do, so maybe i'll consider selling the 11-22.
Any advice you can offer on the 11-22 lens and what, if any advantage it has over the kit lens?
Interesting and informative video, many thanks and take care.
I have the Canon 17-40 f4 that I only used once because I consider it a "creative" lens. So I might buy the M50 II body only and use it exclusively on it.
Have to agreee. .i love the m50 kit lens....all the great reasons...btw perfect storm was a great MOVIE.. take away kit lens help me do my vlogs and tech vids...
Hey I wanted to ask, I'm using it for podcast streaming as a guest camera. Do you think it would do the job for focus on 2-3 people? What would you suggest?
Direct to the point, great starter but still a great video presentation......
love this lens bought a couple of wider lens but the kit lens is awesome stay safe
Dude the rumored specs for the m50 mark 2 suggest that camera is going to be a mini beast. Ive already started saving for it bc its gonna be at least between 800 to 1000 for sure.
Nice!! Hopefully that won’t go so far they have overheating.
@@TheCrowleyCrew hahahaha
Thanks for the great videos
I am not sure it's the camera or the editing software but even though I record on 24fps Fhd ,I still have to render the footage at 59fps . Because when I render it at 30 or 24fps ,the video comes out extremely choppy and unwatchable. I use sony vegas though. Any thoughts on this ?
i think canon made the M50 super good just waiting for someone to unlock 4k with dual pixel auto focus
That’d be nice.
Also 1080p 120 fps with dp autofocus
@Mugen00 so basically the canon m50 has 4k dual pixel auto focus but canon disabled it from factory so the camera doesn't get too powerful at this price point, canon has another mirror less camera which has 4k dual pixel auto focus but it is pricier so if they had given the 4k dual pixel auto focus on the m50, there was no point in buying the pricier version so to save that pricier camera, canon disabled the 4k dual pixel auto focus on the m50, but the m50 has the feature and still waiting on someone to crack it so we unlock that feature.
Basically, but I think it is more than that. The sensor has the auto focus points on it. I think it probably has to do with the older sensor cannot handle the heat it creates. As we can see now Canon putting everything into one camera is causing that thing to nearly melt in people’s hands. That’s why Sony decided to avoid 8K on their A7siii. Also remember the Eos M. Magic lantern “unlocked” 12bit Raw but it is sensitive to heat and the camera can’t handle it very well.
@@TheCrowleyCrew well yea the oeverheating didnt think about that
Great Advice
hey, how does 15-45 mm lens work for photos of landscapes? is it good enough for beginners?
Yes the 15-45 is great when I do wider shots with two people cooking videos. Not for portraits though. I got a vintage 50mm 1.3 for 25 bucks at a thrift store (and a 20 dollar adapter)and damn..it is so much better! It taught me to use manual mode as well.
Nice! I have an old Nikon E series lens I want to make a video about.
@@TheCrowleyCrew yes do it!
Amazing plz suggest is it worth buying or eos m200 or g7x mark 2?
Your right , should make use of 15 -45 kit lens with m50!!!!
love camera m50 😘
Thank you for this video! Just got the Canon m50 mark II and learning it and was wondering if I should invest in more lenses now or wait. Hugely helpful!
what lens were you using to make this video?
Ok so. Thoughts. How do YOU feel about using the m50 as a single camera for an interview style mini doc?
I think you can do it. You’ll have to be aware of audio, but then just the normal stuff you have to do with any camera.
I know you stop shooting a lot because of rain, I would love to see a video about some water protective options for this camera, like if I wanted to shoot in the rain or bring it kayaking. Or at least how to properly clean it if it does accidentally get dirty or wet.
Did you ever find out?
@@TariqMK not yet
Nice video man! Do you think the EF-M 15-45 F/3.5-6.3 lens that the camera comes with is fine to use for personal pictures for instagram? Like I'm not using it for professional use like not for work, I am simply using it to take high quality pictures of myself for my instagram feed.
Absolutely, I think alot of us assume that a kit lens can't give us good quality pictures. Does it have it's limitations? of course it does but overall in my opinion not a bad kit lens overall. Always try to control your light if possible.
Wow I agree.
could you please share your settings, mine isnt zooming on me.
Hi all, I am getting M50 Mark ii along with 15-45 mm kit lens at 575 CAD. Is it worth it in 2024?
Would recommend it for wedding photography and videos?
Great video. congratulations.
You are the M-50 guy on RUclips I think ! I also think your advise is worth something. I hope people with money or gear will donate some to you. Sorry i don 't have either. I want to thank you for all of your info and i wish you and your family the best.
Can I use the kit lens to shoot a green screen video?
What X does this lens zoom to?
I always use the kit lens when out and about especially for b-roll. QUESTION..how do you know when you card is full before getting the message on your camera? Sometimes I've taken the camera out for filming then suddenly get the message the card is full so I have to erase all footage to start filming
Usually the camera shows you on the display, how many minutes of footgae you have left ...
@@RicardoSilvaTripcall thx I never noticed that..only see the message "your card is full"
what lens would you say for car fixing ?
Ive been photographing my travels for years now, (on film in a shoebox somewhere!), and only just getting into video. Your'e a fine example of getting the best out of the gear you have. I was blinded by the 'best gear' but my main criteria is size. It has to be mostly pocketable which the M50 set up is. I love the adage...what's the best camera?.....the one you have with you!
I have a question I just got the m50 if anyone can help me when im shooting at video in 1080p why do my video come out a little grainy can someone help my im using the standard len im new to the camera 📷 life if someone can please help me
I literally just bought the fotowelt wm100 pro. Hoping it works out well. But on topic I’m running the kit lens religiously. The only other that I use is my nifty
Nice. I need a better Lav so I can use that more.
The Crowley Crew ill let ya know Friday how it works lol
Do you normally shoot on 4K or 1080p? I have the M50 but always think that the 1080p is not enough sharpness for my videos. However, file management is getting ever more difficult.
Well shot 1080p will always look better than poorly shot 4k. 9/10 people watching any of your content more than likely don’t even own a 4k display. And, like you’ve realized, 4k files get huge quick. Also, you need a relatively decent machine if you want reasonable 4k rendering times. 1080p is still very manageable. No point in shooting in a format (4k) that isn’t even close to being standard yet.
Learn how to optimize your 1080p footage and you’ll be just fine for several more years at least. Work on 4k when you can reliably afford the storage space and computing power needed to do so. You’ll save and incredible amount of money sticking with 1080p for the foreseeable future.
Having said that, now IS a great time to build a great editing PC. Part prices are at a low for now and SSD storage is cheaper than its ever been. Although, with 4k, it’s still expensive as hell once you start storing hundreds of gb worth of content.
I always use 1080p. I use the natural picture style with sharpness at 2 and contrast at -4 and I avoid color grading since the more you edit a clip’a exposure or color the softer it gets.
Hey I noticed you said you have an M1. Does the 15-45mm lens work with the M1? Want to confirm before I buy it. Thanks for the video man I really appreciate it.
I LOVE your accent dude :)
at the end we can check one flaw of this lens, bad quality on low light :) that's my only con. Sharpness is not that good. I've been there as well and add some lights to balance the sharpness. Have a great day my friend :)
Awesome content, Bro- is Canon M100 good ?(I am confused between iphone 11 or Canon M100)
To be honest I would stick with the iPhone 11 especially if you get the one with the ultra wide lens. The M100 is a fine camera but it is very limited.
Hi, please share if this camera will be good for cooking video.. thank you in advance.
Can you use the canon m50 for small client work and for Instagram photos?
Definitely. I think I could do a really good small job with it.
I just can't decide if I should get this camera, I've seen M50 footage from your channel, and it looks really impressive, but at the same time I've seen other reviews from some other RUclips Channels and the quality doesn't seem to be that good. So it's like this 50 / 50.
the person behind the gear matters more than the gear itself
thx a lot
I just use my EF and EFS lenses with and couple of adapters
Big respect boss
2:54 Nice
Does the m50 15 -45 kit lens have the "power off self retracting " feature?
No.
Can you edit the photo to add some vividness?
Please which is better for photograhy nikon d5600 or canon m50 or canon sl3
I am really not sure.
Did u shoot that inside home footage with kit lens?
Think yes
Bro does that puzzle foam really work To help reduce echo?
Good question. I have no clue. I just did it to look cool.
I haven't tried it, but the answer is yes.
Your colours seem so much better than mine, anything specific you're doing?
I use the natural picture style with sharpness at 2 and contrast at -4 and I always make sure I get my white balance right. Don’t use auto white balance.
Cropped sensors are annoying with how cropped in the 15mm is compared to full size, but better than 18 definitely.
It’s never really bothered me since I’ve only owned APS-C and Micro Four Thirds.
The Crowley Crew it hasn’t bothered me too much because I’ve only owned them too, the m50 was my first camera. But just seeing comparable footage from a full framed sensor makes me feel like I’m missing out a bit. Anyway really good video!😂
Thanks. Yeah I know having a 16mm that was a real ultra wide would be nice.
I'm conflicted in deciding about to pursue a M50 or wait the rumored M50 mk2
That’s hard. If you buy used you probably could sell it for about the same when the MKII comes out. I am really looking forward to seeing what Canon does.
@@TheCrowleyCrew I don't like the idea to buy used electronic devices, Moreover something like a camera. So I'm still waiting for a while. In the worst I coul buy the M50 discounted cause the release of the new one eventually.
Anyway I plan to use a lot the kit lens. It's one of the main Reasons I like the M50
Makes sense. I think the mark ii will be great, but as of right now the M50 is still so good.
@@TheCrowleyCrew a Mark 2 to be satisfactory to me would need:
-better battery (new ones)
-clean hdmi output native
Then wishes
-1080p 120fps (not a real necessity but a wish)
-autofocus dualpixel 4k (I don't need 4k, I need only to make some peculiar zoom and keep resolution and focus)
-one extra button
-double exposure native option
Wait for the rumored m50 mk2! The m50 has some flaws. 4k at 2.5 crop and no dual pixel autofocus. Kit lense does shoot well in the dark. Short battery life. No head phone output to monitor audio! And it has only 1 or 2 log profiles that work with the camera. And it only has an 8bit codec.
You videos are so helpful bro I’m a auto youtuber and you made me get the m50 I’m tynna to have more a cinematic style to my videos can you go in more detail with a dji gimbal
I don’t have a gimbal. I always shoot handheld.
The Crowley Crew your highly slept on fr
I’m definitely apart of the Crowley crew
Ok but what camera are using @3:26 I love the focusing of the camera
M50 and Kit lens
What will happen if you add speed booster to kit lens?
You can’t. The speed booster only works with Full Frame EF DSLR lenses. It doesn’t work with EF-M or Eos R mirrorless lenses.
Did you make any video about 10-18mm in m50 ?
I haven’t yet.
So I’m confused, is this the default lens it comes with?
Yes. This video is about the kit lens.
The kit lens is really a 24-72mm lens because of the m50's crop factor. The wide angle lens for Canon's m line serious cameras is really a 17.6mm. it's a bait and switch. You think you're getting wide angled lenses so you buy the camera with the lense and find out you get a point-and-shoot's focal length. Sucks!
Yeah, Well I’ve only ever had crop sensors so I have to do the math in the other direction every time I pick up a full frame.
@@TheCrowleyCrew Multiplying everything by one is easier than 1.6. Unless the full frame camera has a crop at different resolutions.
start watching at 1:10
My friends still prefer the canon 200d mark ii, They still think you need a DSLR and not a mirror less camera. Could you do a comparison video ?
Unfortunately I don’t have access to a 200D MKII. I would say though that I like the idea of having a speed booster and making my camera close to full frame. Can’t do that with the 200D Mark ii.
@@TheCrowleyCrew okay
I mean, mirrorless cameras are taking over. But if you prefer a optical viewfinder, the SL3 (250D) is a great choice, it's basically a M50 with a mirror.
I think for beginners it's better to start with mirrorless this days.
which varaible nd filter would fit on this kit lens
49mm
Thank you sir so basically it will fit 15-45 mm efm lens
I purchased the 11-22 then never used the kit lense anymore.

it only cost like 30USD for the kit lens with the kit. why not.
I would suggest getting the kit lens.
