Domesticated sheep need to be shorn once a year since they are unable to shed. The weight of the matted wool is going to cause it’s skin to tear and become chronically infected. Should it ever lose it’s footing and fall over sideways, chances are it won’t be able to get up again.

This sheep now named Fiona was saved by 5 highlanders. Her name came from a famous sheep called Shrek. He was rescued in New Zealand 2004 and featured on the the Bondi Vet show. Shrek’s fleece weighed 27kg/59.5lbs. Shriek is the most famous, but Chris, a Canberran ram found in Canberra, Australia 2005 holds the record of sheared fleece at 41kg/90.3lbs. He likely had only weeks to live due to his wool.
    Other rescued fleece weights:
Shaun, 2014 Merino ram Tasmania 23.5kg/51.8lbs fleece.
Big Ben, 2014 Merino ewe New Zealand 28.9kg/63.7lbs fleece.
Sheila, ewe 2015 Tasmania 21.8kg/50.3lbs fleece.
Ewenice, ewe 2020 found in Victoria, Australia 20kg/44lbs fleece.
Baarack, Merino ram 2021 Victoria, Australia 35kg/77lbs fleece.
Shrekapo, Merino sheep 2022 from New Zealand with 18kg almost 40lbs of fleece.
Alex, 2022 Victoria, Australia produced a 40kg/88lbs fleece.

The farmer making stupid facetious comments, showing that for him a sheep is just a money making thing. Sheep farmers have no emotional connections to their flocks, they don't feel rescuing one sheep is worth the effort. It's all about the money, not some cute wooly baa lamb. I've seen a dead sheep in the local field, left for days, while the rest of the flock grazes around its body. The farmer probably thinks we're all mad wanting to rescue it and sees it as a laugh.

Asking a sheep farmer about a sheep's wellbeing is simply absurd. A sheep farmer! Someone who makes money by breeding and selling sheep like soulless, emotionless things, which they aren't, mind you. They're among the gentlest souls imaginable out there and capable of experiencing all sorts of emotions just like us humans. Joy, happiness, sadness, fear, LONELINESS. Plus they're HERD animals. They DEPEND on company. The sheep was literally CRYING OUT FOR HELP when Jillian Turner found her. But our sheep expert here says, "I don't really worry about it's psychology." Well, that's just cruel and plain stupid. How about throwing Mr. Jones down a cliff and leaving him behind to rot there all alone for the rest of his life without any hope of ever getting rescued? Quite frankly, I wouldn't be worrying about his psychology neither.
"Euthanize it or put it to sleep." No surprise this crap is coming from someone whose job requires blocking out all empathy towards the animals he exploits. Please, SAVE THE SHEEP and let her live the rest of her life free from harm in an animal sanctuary as she deserves! Her life MATTERS

I too think rehousing "Sheepy" or "Fiona" at Dalscone is a bad idea. 2 years of being alone is probably very traumatising, though in time got used to living a solitarily life. Indeed made the best of it as was found slightly overweight!
Reintroducing Sheepy / Fiona to other sheep and also the other animals kept at Dalscone will probably be very traumatic. Maybe it was a lifestyle choice for her to have strayed from the flock and live alone?
Surely the best outcome now is to make a unique set of kilts woven from the huge fleece that has just been sheared and sold to the highest bidder.
But of course the biggest money-spinner, especially with Christmas coming up, is to accept the reasons farmers breed sheep. After being humanely killed and skilfully butchered then hold a lottery for the many different parts.
She could end up as a special treat on many Christmas Day platters for the enjoyment of many.... and while devouring her get that special sense that you've been part of her special story.
But let's not forget Charity, I suggest the eyeballs be placed in a special "Schools Raffle" where two lucky "Biology" lessons involve kids dissecting them to teach them how the eyeball actually works and how the eye evolved in all animals due to evolution.
While it may be a bit early I wish you all a good festive Christmas season ... and will "Sheepy" / "Fiona" end up on your plate this Christmas?? Well if someone has the sense to adopt my special “Butcher Lottery” idea... it could be EWE!
