I love how Pichi has settled and is no longer shy. Poki and Pichi make a lovely couple. All your cats are so cute as they run ahead of you down the stairs.
Maybe consider getting one of the tray's that goes under a planter box? You could probably find one long enough to fit under the feeder box to catch any water that falls down. And they are low profile so it would probably fit just fine! They're typically sold seperately as well. :D
I was thinking the same thing, but I worry maybe since it would be dark and moist down there that it would be a breeding ground for bacteria they don't want. Maybe do like a floor mat instead that they can wash every so often?
if they cut a small slit on the bottom it could be a removable drip tray? Rachel said she was going to wipe down underneath every time, but this way she can just pull out the trays and clean them instead. No chance for mold or bacteria growth!
When Rachel started hand-sawing the bowl hole my heart cried, "get thee a jigsaw!" and lo, it came to pass. Now y'all just need a router and there will be nothing you can't build. Also you are a great inspiration to me as I attempt to regulate my one food-gobbling, brash, chatty cat and protect the caloric intake of my quiet, self-regulating cat.

an absolutely beautiful build! While there will always be chaos, this seems to help contain it. I've no doubt Pichi will adapt like the little badass that she is~
I cannot believe you tried to do those by hand Rachel, gambatte indeed! I once tried to make a hole in a cheap bookshelf so I could have a tree branch “growing” out of it, I swear it took 20 minutes for one hole smaller than that in softer wood. I’m excited you have a jigsaw now, I can’t wait to see what you build next.
to limit the water on the floor you could put a folded up towel under the feeding station and then after feeding remove the towel or a mat that extends to where the cats sit while eating.
I love how close Poki and Pichi are! Would the Ichiran Ramen Cat Station benefit from a water collecting mat underneath it so you don't get water directly on your floors?
It needs little numbers and decoration to make it look even more like a ramen shop! That would be so cute! And like a plastic trail or sth hidden underneath, so the water is caught to save the floor and also in case you forget to wipe, or if there is rest moisture
As an idea to put something underneath the stand if you plan on keeping it on the ground there throughout the day(s), in order to avoid having to wipe up any spills with a rag each time - working in retail, we have these "super absorbent" pad like pieces of fabric (they aren't like a shamwow or reusable towel, but work better than paper towels and the like,) that are designed to be used for hazardous materials/spills and then bagged up and either tossed, or put in a specific haz waste area for collecting. They work very well for water and the like, and are thick enough that you shouldn't have to change them after each meal. I don't know how easy it would be to find something similar at bigger hardware stores, but they should work perfectly under the stand, because they aren't too big, are flexible and soft, and can be cut down to size very easily. You could just replace them every week to twice a week, and wouldn't have to worry about cleaning up the floor after each meal. Either way, the stand looks great, and hopefully it helps (even just a little) with Poki's gluttonous ways!
The start of the video makes me think back of your old, small apartment. It's so great to see the cats (and hoomans) have more room to walk around now.

this is absolutely BRILLIANT Rachel and Jun 🤩👍👍. I also created a cat feeding system similar to this but nowhere near as fancy. but yes it raises their foodbowls so that my furbabies doesn't have to stoop when eating and they have a common "placemat" / eating mat that indicates where they should be eating. it's lots easier doing clean up after eating. I just shake out the eating mat over the yard and that leaves their main eating area spotless. maybe you can do a placemat system as well?
If anyone wants to build something out of wood and would like to protect it against spills I can recommend a natural wax from the German manufacturer “AURO”, type 171. It’s a mixture from beeswax and plant wax and is safe even for children’s wooden toys. I’ve been using it for over ten years and am very happy with it. Initially waxed surfaces might not be as strongly protected as when you use lacquer but its advantage is that you can easily fix small damages without having to sand the entire piece.
I am like you, Rachel - whenever I think of a way to make things easiwer, more comfortable, I try to DIY it, but from cardboard mostly since I cannot bbuild here. Nice idea with the station. Maybe put some bigger shallow bowls under each, so the water goes to be bottom bowl instead of the floor?

im sure yall have already tried this but just in case it's helpful to anyone: i also have a poki in my life that eats everything in sight within 2 seconds, and then tries to steal food from the other cats. i originally tried a classic slow feeder (the ones with the raised walls that people usually get for their dogs) and that didn't work because he would just gnaw on the walls, and would also try to pick it up and drop it to make the food pop out (which was pretty entertaining but not great for me). so i bought him a lick mat instead. it works really well with wet or dry food. and i'm also able to pour water or broth over the food without it spilling everywhere. definitely made things waaaay easier
Would you guys do a video about what you normally feed your cats? I've never seen this water method before. I'm trying to get more water into my cats' diets!
I was thinking about the water issue and maybe you could use like a rubber seal strip (similar to the one used on the window frames) to waterproof the holes. So that when you put the bowls in it is a nice and seamless fit. Alternatively, you could try to find some sort of a rubber mat with a slight edge so that even if the water drips down it won't end up on the hardwood floors.
I was going to suggest a carpet under the neko ichiran, one made of a material easy to wash and dry for use on the same day... but seeing how far Pichi can get the water to go, I'm not sure xD This is very cute! I love to see the things you build, Rachel is very creative!
