That summer night air as the brass hits you with a wall of sound that makes the hair on your neck stand up, even in the highest bleacher. As the horns cut, you hear the sound drift as it drifts past you across the midwest corn and soy fields as it sails across the night sky.
I saw them at Drums Along the Rockies in Denver that summer. My first drum corps show ever. I didn't really know then how lucky I was, I just knew it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen.
Just seeing them march on the field is positively aggressive and nurturing to my soul. I appreciate your contribution to the advancement of the future of 🥁&🎺 corps.
Some of the best days of Drum Corps! This is Madison Scout' s REAL identity! These are the REAL Madison Scouts!! I don't know what the people today are doing!
I'm 55 years old. My brother marched corps two seasons and me as well. So I am old school. I had the same thoughts as you about new corps style. I decided, however, that I had to leave my corps interest behind or embrace. I decided to embrace. I'm reminded of how "old" my parents appeared to be by not accepting my music when I was a teenager. I certainly dont want to become like they were.
@@woodsman335 I'm the same age, and not as closed minded as people think. I've tried to enjoy what Corps has become, but I just don't like it. I wish DCI didn't force all corps in to this new style. There is no variety in the corps today. It's all esoteric concepts that usually don't allow the audience to connect to corps the way they used to.
This is an amazing early season performance. With such a strong early season, I would have expected a top three placement at finals. Their finals performance was amazing, too.
They fought most of the season in 1st or 2nd with Blue Devils. It wasn't until August that they started getting judged lower and Cadets and Cavaliers (having beaten both corps every time they played at the same venue through July) started moving up. The scores are still up on dcxexperience.
I love the Scouts… but the cameramen for this production made us miss so much while filming 3 guys at a time, people’s backs, etc… they missed the show!
that mello line at 8:40, i wonder if they kept that lick in for finals, it sounded great. this video is a bonafide GEM, thanks eternally for sharing. can't ask for much more than mid-season scouts 95.
What are the problems today with, drum c o r p s, the organizations that wore shakos, they never pay attention to put them properly level on the head. Notice the scouts their hats are level and parallel to the ground. It's called uniformity of style, they had always paid attention to detail, so many DCI, organizations, never paid attention to proper, uniformity of their uniforms including shakos. Suncoast sound that Drumline would put the chin strap in their mouth like a high school band, because that's where they came from and that's all they know.
That's when the scouts were truly a real drum and bugle Corps until unfortunately DCI kept pressuring them to join the crowd to dance and all the props it's sad pathetic one of my favorite Drum Corps , however for many years I have always enjoyed them fantastic they set the pace
that's so absurd, you're describing 7:30 of THIS SHOW and acting like drum corps in 2015 is the problem. corps were dancing around doing their star wars disco and macarthur park stuff in the early 70's too, don't get it twisted.
@@andrewholifield2405 yup, exactly. some of these folks are so blind. last i checked flamenco dancing counts as a DANCE. dude can't even spell drum corps right, what an authority figure on it, eh? the point you should actually be extracting from this, is that dancing and prancing around has always been a thing, including in the most beloved drum corps shows ever, so relax and embrace the greatness.
@@americanspirit8932 i’ve beaten every corps in the activity at least once, beat the blue devils in brass on finals night, finished ahead of corps like SCV, the cadets, Madison, and Crown, had multiple ballad solos that I played in huge college and pro stadiums, was the only person in my section to play upper lead split parts for all of my three years, was in the first corps to ever be featured in a movie theater in the first big loud and live event, took part in a 400+ person alumni corps, marched in a first-year division 2/3 corps, did DCI before smartphones, marched when there was full retreat after every show throughout the summer, and pulled off a 19.8 finals week in horns that’s STILL the highest brass score in bluecoats history, even after the most recent championship edition of the corps finally managed to snag that elusive Ott on finals week. I’ve taken every variation of shower conceivable (hot, cold, insane pressure, no pressure), slept on the bus floor, taken part in rookie talent night, gotten through a rehearsal in Louisiana where all we got for breakfast was Kristy Kreme glazed donuts, helped create our pre-show bus hype playlist and morning stretch music, was a central part of my corps first ever viral video, and randomly came up with a pre-show hype tradition that is somehow STILL BEING DONE BY THE CURRENT CORPS. I could tell you about the most recent Canadian corps to make finals, or the last all girl corps, or “the combine,” or which shows were alleged to have officially been the death of drum corps back in 1971, or I could talk to you about which corps used to be from Schaumburg or Revere or Racine or Jacksonville or Hutchinson or DeSoto or San Antonio or Garfield or Chicago or Quebec……. But would you believe me?
Not likely, the administration team essentially are being forced by DCI politics and unwritten rules to place the corps on a different trajectory to keep up with other corps. A progressive approach vastly different than the corps you remember. Anything can change, but that was my impression while I marched there. Still a great group of guys though!
Christian Johnson my stepson aged out in 2012 with one of the last corps to add the electronics. The only reason they did was because the director of that corps, when asking why his corps always finished in a certain spot, was told they wouldn’t score better until “they got with the program” and added electronics. They did and went from 17th to 13th.
@@brianjungen4059 It's truly sad. Even if the only "request" is to add electronics. It's not what the members or your stepson signed up for and as you can see. Such additions have drastically altered and diminished the number of people wanting to march Madison.
Man! I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes because I remember all of the emotions of been on the field with this show. Truly this is real Drum Corp!
I also!
Marched 2011 for scouts 95 and 88 are my favorite years to listen to. I know that feeling!

Saw this show on VHS later on and went to my first show in 1999. Vanguard was there and the same thing happened to me: I was hooked.
May Jesus bless you for your contribution to the advancement of drum and bugle corps through uploading this video.
Can I hear an AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw them in Houston in late July and we thought they had a really legit shit of winning it all.
Interesting...they hadn't put in the soprano solos at the end of "La Danza Pasillo" at that point. Thanks for uploading! MYNWA!
7:24 onwards (until they finish that movement of their show) is probably one of the best buildups I've heard.
