  • In this short video I've put together a list of the essential tools you need to make your own outdoor gear (MYOG) from scratch, such as DIY backpacks, fanny packs or even tents and sleeping bags - the tools are much the same. Most of it is commonplace sewing equipment but I've narrowed it down to the tools that I've found through experience to work the best for the kinds of materials and projects used in making outdoor gear using technical fabrics.
    Thanks for watching!

I love that RUclips exists. I have a backpack I inherited from a friend and like it - but like features of a newer model - but also some features of my existing and earlier model. So I wonder to myself, can I find on you RUclips someone that has made a backpack, and learn about doing it myself? Boy am I thrilled to learn there is an actual COMMUNITY of people that do that and an abbreviation for doing it regularly! Thank you. Happy new year.

Loving the content you put out. I've binge watched them all and love the minimalist / all-black vibe you're going for. Timeless and great looking. I was focused on DCF and XPAC but you opened my eyes on balistic nylon and cordura too. Thanks for that :)

I started on that machine but found the all metal tank built sewing machines of half a century ago adequate and fraction of the price of the modern 'heavy duty' ones. And bonded nylon thread is the way to go.

Great video, thanks. A rule measures to the end, a ruler doesn't.

Amazing video as always. I have a hand-me-down sewing machine from my mom but I cant say it has all the functionality of the Singer, and after seeing the price, I can see why people would go for it. Any chance you'd do a video on the functionality of it? I.E. what stich patterns/functions you use for specific situations, or when you'd adjust the length... Stuff... Who knows. Great video!

Thanks! Yeah, for sure considering a video about how to get the most out of the Singer, but as far as stitches go, I really only ever use straight and zigzag so if your machine has those then you are golden 👍
