Love what you've said about the Crows. Absolutely agree with so many of your thoughts - as a huge SOC fan, I LOVED what we got in this season, even though it will inevitaby change parts of the spin-off if we get it. For me, the 'how will you have me?' scene is absolutely perfect; I've watched it so many times since and it's still giving me chills. Freddy and Amita's scene chemistry is INSANE. Agree that I wish that Inej's trauma was also included, but I do feel like they could still bring it in later, since they sowed the seeds of it in season one. I'm conflicted because even though it felt too early, the Kaz v Rollins scene was SO GOOD and Freddy Carter in that scene stole the entire show for me. The look on his face when he told Rollins he'd buried his son was just absolutely deranged. Freddy was definitely the stand-out actor for me this season.
I'm with you on wesper too - as much as I adore them annoying each other all the way through soc, this season NEEDED at least one light-hearted romance, and they were the perfect choice for it. I also feel like Wylan and Jesper still have plenty of character arcs ahead which could be interesting with them already being a couple - Jesper's gambling, Wylan's backstory, a flashback to the night they met which could include the famous 'not just girls' line etc. At the end of the day, even though their story was very different, they still felt in-character, so it worked. Most hilarious scene for me was Kaz glaring at Jesper and Wylan kissing and going "everyone's lost their minds".
Other little things I loved - Kaz's "the barrel doesn't belong to kings, it belongs to bastards" line, Inej and Nina bonding, ALL of the crows fighting in their own unique ways, Wylan's "I too would like to know the plan", Jesper being very preoccupied by hats all season, Jesper wearing brighter colours (and a kilt!), no one wanting to listen to Tolya reciting poetry, Nina abandoning the table and casually returning with crucial information and waffles, all the cool new fabrikator and heartrender moves we got to see.
It's been a long time since I read the original trilogy, but without spoiling anything I'll say I think they hit all of the major beats of that side of the story well, even if it was very rushed and condensed. There's one particular line of Genya's that I'm gutted wasn't included, especially because it would have fit perfectly (I wonder if it was in the script, but later cut, because the set up for it was all there).
Would definitely be interested in a video on your thoughts for what the possible spin-off could entail. I agree, I think they could still create an incredible show - and it could even work in their favour that they've got more time to spend on the storyline's they've got left. On the other hand, there's the potential that the show will be weaker that it could have been. Time will tell, I guess. For now, I'm just thankful for what we've got, and that from what we've seen, the showrunners are good at keeping the crows in character even when they deviate from the book material. That keeps me hopeful that regardless of the direction they take the show, it'll still be good.

Never read the books, but was drawn in by the crows from S1. Just binged S2 and again, they are the MVPs imo;-) Love, LOVE Kaz, Jesper and Inej, but our new additions were great as well. Hope that that spin-off will happen!❤‍🔥

Liam!!! I'm only 17 mins into this review so far, but I'm completely in agreement with everything you're saying and just wanted to comment to say how wonderful it is to see you reviewing something you're passionate about again - and as a huge fan of the books, it's especially great to see you reviewing THIS show.

First of all i'm a non english speaker so forgive my mistakes but i really wanted to comment so here i try... I read all the books when they came out but i'm just gonna talk about the crows part since you read them too. I agree with all you said about them, and i feel like maybe they wanted to go too fast in case we don't have the spin off. Now i wonder what they could give us for later because the slow
developpement we have in the books has been rushed this season, and many events came to early... But like you said if we don't get a spin off i'm glad they did it specificly with Kaz and Inej

Totally agreeing with everything you said. My main gripe was definitely Inej's storyline
