  • If you need more adjustment out of your 848 1098 or 1198 Ducati Superbike swing arm, watch this video. I walk you step-by-step through this modification, which includes drilling and tapping a new rear brake caliper bracket pin hole. If you do not have an adjustable ride height linkage, (most of you 848 owners), you will need to install one. I use a Sato Racing adjustable linkage, but there are many good quality brands; Sling Shot Racing and Corse Dynamics are two others that I would consider. Wow that guy does some awesome work! The only bit i did cringe at was the hoover going over the swingarm..my OCD was like, "what if he scratches it" LOL... Nice work as always mate! You know how much i like watching these!

    Another great video! I should have this done before I install my new swingarm because I'm planning on trying a 200 rear with 14/40 gearing!

      Yes, I agree, I would recommend having this done while the new swingarm is off the bike. By doing this mod, you'll be able to use the full motion of the eccentric and experiment with a wider range of final drive and rear tire options without issue... good luck!

    Just completed relocating the rear brake caliper pin, what a difference! Great video & instruction on this. Running a Dunlop 180/60/17 Ntec, would not fit in stock form, now fits beautifully. Forgot to measure the ride height before the mod. Can you tell me what you're running? Thank you!!!

    • @Track848
      @Track848  6 лет назад

      I like the Pirelli race slicks, 180/60 preferably... I ran a couple of Michelins last year and they were okay too, but I like the Pirelli's better.

    Hello Track848!
    I own a 2016 Multistrada Pikes Peak. I was wondering where I could find the torque specs for my machine, on the owner manual I have nothing. By the way amazing content, thank you so much. Will the work you did on your Ducati be applicable to other models? Also what is the brand of that impact gun? Very nice!!

    • @Track848
      @Track848  4 года назад +1

      Hey Pipo, you can find the torque specs for your bike in the Service and Repair manual. If you do not have one, I recommend obtaining one. If you do not have one, you can probably find the specs on one of the Ducati forums. The work that I do in my videos will apply to some Ducatis, but it depends on what task specifically we're talking about. For example, if your fans stop working, you can follow the procedures in my video about overheating motorcycles on any bike, here's a link to that video: ruclips.net/video/kw11Onl7OLQ/видео.html.
      The impact gun is a cordless Ingersoll Rand W7150; I did a review on this tool several years ago, here's a link to that video: ruclips.net/video/U1G7b9lDmsM/видео.html; Good luck!

    Hello, great video! This is one of two ways I've found & the only video on how to get full rotation on the eccentric. The other way involves notching the rear brake bracket. Looks easier but I'm not so sure about removing material from the bracket that prevents the caliper from spinning around the hub. Need some advise. 2012 848, (race bike only) & looking to run 180/60/17 Pirelli Superbike slick. Usually run the stock 180/55 but they are getting less common & not always available at the track. 190/55-17 Dunlop will fit & clear with warmers on but is only available in MED+ the wider tire on a 5.5 rim squeezes the intended profile & I don't like the way it feels. So...have you ran a 180-60 with this set up? I plan on running 39/41 520 gearing.

    • @Track848
      @Track848  6 лет назад

      Thanks! I agree about modifying the bracket--I wasn't 100% comfortable doing that. The Swingarm comes from the factory with the pilot hole, so that made more sense to me. After completing this mod I switched to the Pirelli 180/60 Superbike slick and it was an excellent upgrade. I run the stock 15t front sprocket with 40t rear for the 180/60 and the 41t sprocket with the 180/55; I'm still set up with the 525 chain and sprockets. I did try the Michelin 190/55 this year and it was okay after I got used to the turn in characteristics. I prefer the Pirelli... Good luck!

    Cool video!. Question man, do 2009 - 2011 848 wheels fit my 2011 1198?, I am after a set of Red Marchesini wheels. Btw nice job on that swing arm 👌🏻

    • @Track848
      @Track848  8 лет назад

      +alfonso hernandez Thanks! The 848 rear wheel has a smaller axle/hub and will not fit. The front will fit with a spacer removal at the caliper (on a 1098S), I'm told by a buddy, and I would assume it's the same for an 1198. My buddy found this out the hard way: he bought Red 848 Marchesini wheels for his 1098S only to learn they wouldn't work; they're in my garage now!

    one question: does this modification allow the mounting of the 200/60 tire? need to increase the length of the chain? in any case, good job! thanks

    • @Track848
      @Track848  3 года назад

      Hi Emilio... This modification helped when I installed a 180/60 (from stock 180/55) onto my 848. I had previously upgraded to a quick-change sprocket carrier and a 41t rear sprocket, and at that time I also changed the length of my chain from a stock 98-link to a 100-link chain. I kept the front 15t. When I upgraded to the 180/60 I had to go from 41t rear to 40t rear. With the 41t I had only 7-8mm swingarm clearance. After the change to 40t I had about 15-16mm, which I felt more comfortable with. I'm not 100% sure about the 200 (I have never attempted to install one on this bike), but I believe in order for it to work on the 848 you'll need to switch the swingarm/hub with one from a 1098... probably would be a good idea to check this out to be sure at one of the Ducati forums. Good luck!

      Why run that wide of tire on the 848? Would you not need a wider rim for the correct profile?

    I need your advice man the forums have been ignoring me. I've got a monster 1200 frame engine and swingarm but I can't find affordable forks or lower triple clamp. But after looking it looks like the 1098 will fit. Do you know if it will I know it's a random question I'm just looking for any help I can get

      I've been off-line for a few days, sorry for the late reply... I recommend checking with Imperial Sportbikes, (do a google search, they're based in Denver, Colorado, USA; They have a lot of Ducati parts and you might be able to find some affordable forks there. At a minimum they should be able to advise you on fitment. They also have an ebay store... Good luck!

    Hey, nice video, swing arm/ adjustment related question, i have fitted a 180/60 rear tyre on my 2012 evo corse se race bike, and am having massive issues getting enough clearance to fit my warmers and retain a good tension on the chain, its either very loose and good clearance, or tight and not enough clearance, i have slotted my calliper bracket, and tried lots of combos 14/15 front with 39 rear, and 14/15 front with 42 rear, but throughout all these different combos i have found it impossible to get sufficient tyre to swing arm clearance while achieving a correct chain tension. Can you tell me what you do/run? Im running metzeler raceteks on standard rim and standard swing arm, any help is much appreciated, thanks

      Hey Jeff, Thanks. I'm currently using a 180/55 Pirelli Superbike Pro rear tire. For my final drive I have a 15t Front and 41t Rear sprocket. With this set up and the stock chain I had the same problem (there was no clearance between the tire and the inside of the swingarm); I resolved my issue by replacing the stock 98-link chain with a 100-link one. How many links does your chain have?

    • @jeffmetaldemonz
      @jeffmetaldemonz 8 лет назад

      Hey i sorted my problem, a 15 tooth front and 43 tooth rear works out to be good clearence for 180/60 tyre and warmers, and the chain is a nice tension, with a little bit of adjustment left, (i have already slotted my caliper mount) the gearing seems to be similar to factory setting with the 15/39 and 180/55 tyre, did not count the links as it was a new chain and just cut it to suit

    • @Track848
      @Track848  8 лет назад +1

      Nice! I tried the 15/43 combo and found it made the bike amazingly 'peppy'. I liked it a lot, however, in 6th gear at one of my favorite tracks I found the rev limiter would come on much sooner than the 15/41 on the longer back straight. I had to change it back to the 41t rear. If top end is not of concern, 15/43 would be my gearing of choice. Glad to hear you got it sorted!

    Greetings brother, I’m planning on doing this mod manually. What size drill bit and tap was used for this?

    • @Track848
      @Track848  3 года назад +1

      The final drill bit size is 10.8mm and the tap is M12x1.25; Be sure to spot-face the surface around the hole as mentioned in the video before you drill and tap...

    How much did you (or can we) expect to pay a machine shop to do this mod? thanks!

    • @Track848
      @Track848  8 лет назад

      It probably depends on your location and the shop's rate, but I would guess for a disassembled swingarm like mine in this video, low end would be around $40 USD and high end around $100; that's just a guess based on approximately 40-60 minutes of labor.

    Hey, my pin was very difficult to remove and eventually, the hex bolt on one side was stripped. I managed it get it out of the swingarm and I'm going to buy a new pin bolt. I saw stuff coming out when I was taking out the pin bolt from the swingarm and it looks like it was Loctite and some shaving from the inside. What do you recommend for the installation of the new pin? I was going to just clean up the area with a wire brush lightly and compressed air and use a bunch of recommended Loctite. I also thought about using the new bolt and using WD-40, to make sure the threads were good inside..

    • @Track848
      @Track848  6 лет назад

      I would just clean it like you mention and use some threadlocker/loctite... I use the blue medium strength on this bolt. I believe it gets torqued to 42 Nm, I'll double-check later today...

    • @orlandoducati
      @orlandoducati 6 лет назад

      According to the service manual, it states 33 NM with LOCK 8 (Loctite 601), which I was going to use Loctite 271 aka RED loctite....What do you recommend using BLUE or RED? Also, I'm replacing the rear axel spindle, which requires rear brake disk to be removed and transferring to the new spindle..DO you know why it states to use Grease B for the rear disk bolts?
      AGAIN, I absolutely appreciate the videos you make and appreciate the quick responses!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

    • @Track848
      @Track848  6 лет назад

      Yes, I just double-checked and my manual also states 33 NM and LOCK 8; I've always used blue medium strength for the rear brake caliper bracket pin, and I've never had any problems. Use whatever you feel comfortable with (601, 271), but medium strength has worked fine for me. Regarding the Rear Brake Disk bolts, the manual for my 2009 848 calls for 25 NM of torque with LOCK 2, which is the medium strength Loctite. What year and model is your bike?

    • @orlandoducati

    • @orlandoducati
      @orlandoducati 6 лет назад

      Track848 I was also talking to another guy on his channel about the bolts on this bike being over torqued. I attempted to remove the rear disc and those four screws are super super super tight. It seems like everything was over torqued from the factory. Did you run into this issue as well? My only solution is heating it up with torch.
