    When I was younger my friend had a Nokia 3310 and it would charge itself! Seriously it did, when we were out and his battery died, he'd leave it for about half an hour, turn it back on and it would have battery life for several more hours

    iPhones were cool at the time, but they have gone no where. They quickly let other companies surpass them with specs and features and design, yet that doesn't change that many people buy it because they think they are getting the best.

    I still think the original iPhone should be the best phone ever. It made the modern day smartphone. A complete creative and futuristic innovation.

    • @djs5089
      @djs5089 10 лет назад +3

      Well the thing about the original Iphone is that is looked very nice. The OS was unbelievably smooth for it's time and the OS looked very nice. BUT it didn't have a lot of features, when you look at the features such as apps or video player support, it was blown away by the popular Nokia Symbian phones of that time.
      But I have to admit: The OS looked a whole lot nicer than Symbian.

    • @YOURMOMxo69xo
      @YOURMOMxo69xo 10 лет назад

      I don't know, the biggest app store for any company was soon to come and compared to other phones of its time the usability of it was nothing short of amazing and like i said it started the revolution of modern day cell phones. Back in the time of the Nokia although that thing was a beast it not like everyone had a similar phone, some people had brick phones, some had flip, there just wasn't any phone that was a whole lot better than the others. Now basically everyone has a touchscreen smartphone capable of full internet access and a diverse app store, thanks to the original iPhone. I'm not trying to start an argument or anything like that and i'm not saying either of us is wrong or right, this is just my opinion.

    • @djs5089
      @djs5089 10 лет назад

      ***** But the original Iphone didn't have an appstore in advance while Nokia had some kind of appstore-ish thing. Like I said, indeed the OS was very smooth and nice for it's time and sure it was the phone that made touchscreen big but that was about it. Don't get me wrong, I also find the original Iphone a true pioneer in the mobile world but really that was just because of the UI and the looks of the phone self. The UI was truly revolutionary and phones of these days still use the same basic gestures the Iphone was using. The internet experience on the Iphone was better and much nicer but the internet support, mainly video codec support wasn't as good as Nokia phones and it didn't have good and the camera was really bad and didn't even shoot videos. It didn't have GPS while the Nokia N95 for example had.

    • @11rhaven11
      @11rhaven11 10 лет назад

      You really should look at some of the older phones.
      It wasn't the first full screen touch.
      Wasn't the first with apps.
      What Apple did do right like they do with all there gear is make it user friendly.
      Apple has this wonderful thing where they take other peoples/companies ideas and make them better...... Then claim that they invented it all!

You didn't fall for the hype of big specs, and instead went for historical importance of the phones in how significant they were for their time and for getting the world to go mobile. Overall, this is probably one of your best videos to date, Austin. Kudos on a great job!

  • @djoetma
    @djoetma 10 лет назад +4

    There certainly were phones with big screens before the iPhone. Think about the HTC Touch Cruise, Tytn, Tytn II, 4350. Sony Ericsson P1i, Eten M600, SE M600, to name a few. Yes, Apple brought the full touch form factor in that way, but also built on what was already there.
    Anyway, my favorite top 5 would at least have the Nokia 8210. Same advantages of the 3310/2310 but smaller, more beautiful/classy. It was also kind (at least, when it just came out it was) of a statement that you could afford more. This was when mobile phones just became a common thing, and the students were the youngest group of people to use them.
    Another favorite is the E71. Great built quality since it was made out of steel, and Symbian OS, so basically all the functionality we have today in Android phones, and then some. Symbian made me wonder if iOS even was a smartphone OS, since it was so limited. The keyboard on the E71 was great, and comparable to that of the Blackberries. Beautiful thin device that was feature-packed and built like a tank.
    The HD2 was awesome. At first I was disappointed since WinMo was ok with the Sense-skin of the time. But very few cool apps came out, you really noticed that WinMo was dying. It felt like a pretty crappy move by HTC to sell such an expensive phone with an OS that was EOL. Actually, the HD2 was supposed to get Android, but MS probably did HTC an offer they couldn't refuse. I bought a HTC Legend shortly after that, but with that phone I just noticed that it was less powerful, and that Android had less functionality compared to WinMo. And then de XDA-community came through. First we could run Android, and after that also WP7, and even in dual boot. The HD2 became the ultimate geek-gadget.
    Fourth I'd name the Nokia N8. Great camera, Symbian Belle made me wonder what that OS could have been with a better SoC. Again great built quality and a nice FM transmitter-feature.
    Didn't want to have so many Nokia's, but I can't help it: Nokia N9, simply because of Meego. So unfortunate Nokia went to Windows Phone and has now been devoured by Microsoft.
    The reason why I wouldn't pick the iPhone is that Apple did the industry more damage than good. Sure, they pushed friendliness in the OS. But they also pushed huge opportunism when it comes to making deals with providers and closing an ecosystem off and limiting the functionality for their own gains. When I look at what smartphones can do today, I can't help feeling that the development should have been so much further. Basically everything Ubuntu Mobile promises to be should have been here years ago.

    Hey Austin! Can you please answer me this quick question? It's totally unrelated to the video. Okay, is that $500 Gaming PC build that you just did more powerful than the PS4/XB1? If not, then is it as powerful?
    If the $500 build is not, then is the $600 build you did back in Oct as powerful as the PS4/XB1? Or even more powerful? Well hope to hear from you soon, thanks in advance Austin! Appreciate it!

    • @BarbecueGamer
      @BarbecueGamer 10 лет назад +1

      ***** -_-
      I wasn't asking which one would be better, people could go back and fourth on that discussion all day. I was asking which one would be more "POWERFUL". Oh, and is your name Austin?

    • @BarbecueGamer
      @BarbecueGamer 10 лет назад +3

      ***** What you just said was incredibly stupid. Because I never once asked for help on a PC build, I was simply asking "Austin" a simple question of raw power between that particular $500 PC build over the PS4/XB1. The facts are there, take a little gander at my comment.
      Word of advise, if you don't want to look like a complete and utter fool. Think and make sure you know the full scope of the situation before typing on that keyboard of yours. ;)

      When did he ask for help with a PC build?

    • @hmh530
      @hmh530 10 лет назад

      BarbecueGamer Ignore them...
      Here's my take...and I do not speak for Austin, but I also will not be rude like many others will:
      His $500 PC build is a bit over-spec what the XB1/PS4 are, and due to the ability to upgrade it further over the course of this whole console generation, you'll be better off with the PC build. NOW, if you have no plans on upgrading, want an easy-to-maintain unit, and have console-gaming friends, by all means, go with a console. (: It's meant more for the casual pick-up-and-play gamer. PC's are a bit more complex in that you can upgrade them freely, and very well may have to if you want to play your favorite games at 1080p, or the upcoming standard 4K resolution.
      A $500 PC can turn into a $2000 investment over 5-9 years. However, the games are cheaper through Steam's crazy sales, and it is more than just a gaming console. You can install photoshop, video editors, and such, and they all work smoothly on this new monster of a pc you have.
      it's up to you. in the end, ask yourself: would I really push this PC to the max, or do I just want pretty-looking, smooth operating, games?
      If just for the games, please dive into the world of the console. If you're into more than just games, go with the PC.

      @PatrickFitzerton 10 лет назад

      BarbecueGamer at least he gave some advice. You realize this is youtube right? Austin will most likely not see your comment so he was trying to help. Oh, my names not Austin either but you could build a $500- $600 PC that will own the PS4 and especially the Xbox One. Just advice, no need to be a dick about it.

      @djoetma 10 лет назад +2

      The only thing it did new were the speakers which isn't enough and kind of a useless and sometimes even annoying feature (teens in public transport who play music, yuck), and the camera, which was a failed project. De built is nice, but had been done before. The bezels are huge, the weren't the first 1080p-phone... And apparently did get send back a lot for repair. Not sure how the HTC-repair-service is in your country, but in the Netherlands, it sucks ass.
      So I would rather mention the Xperia Z first, if you want to mention something from that generation. Waterproof, 1080p, big screen. But let's be honest, that generation simply was beefing up specs like they have been doing for years. How can you be the best in any way, if the others are basically offering the same thing? Sure, one could talk about the complete picture, but a lot about the complete picture sucks, and you could just as well mention the S4 and Xperia Z, which was first of the three.

    • @aaronmcloughlin4410
      @aaronmcloughlin4410 10 лет назад

      And what's so special about the Xperia z? It's not the first waterproof phone nor the first waterproof smartphone, if you dislike the speaker location then how about the z speaker when you hold the phone with both hands you cover the speaker! The z also has bad problems with overheating that doesn't allow you to use the oversized camera. And annoying teens playing music is ridiculous argument that is not a problem with the phone, the original experia z when it got hot the back panel lifted up and stopped it being waterproof so that is a fail.and the s4 is not worth mentioning its just an overhyped remake of the s3 with a higher clock speed because they believe make the numbers bigger an it's better! Imagine buying a phone on a 2 year contract and a new one coming out a year later.

    • @djoetma
      @djoetma 10 лет назад

      Aaron Mc Loughlin I didn't say it was special. I said that the One wasn't special because the Xperia Z was already there with the same kind of SoC (600 is only a bit higher clocked, GPU is the same), 1080p schreen, same size screen. The S4 came a month later with the same. None of these phones really did anything special. Anyhow, read the second paragraph of my comment. The One is a nice phone, but in a list of all time best phones, it doesn't have a place.

The iPhone 5S has only two cores not 4 like most other phones and it uses only 1.2 GHz instead of 2GHz+ but still blows all other phones out of the water in benchmarks.
