Dont stop reacting to Abba. Do what's right for you man. Abba is good for the soul. Abba singing "The way old friends do" (live at Wembley Arena) is a must see. ✌️
And there's an incredibly moving video on RUclips of a brief ABBA 'reunion' in 2016 which uses 'The Way Old Friends Do' to amazing effect. Check it out. It really would bring tears to a glass eye. ruclips.net/video/LMLBji4DoWM/видео.html

Crying here in Brazil. JAMES, please, IF YOU WANNA go crazy about ABBA, react to Watch Out, The Visitors and I'm a Marionette. You won't believe the same band plays them.
Hi, new subscriber here! Im from Sweden, the home of ABBA. This is our go to song every new year. For 40 years!! You hear it on every station at that time of the year.
Sorry i have a question : In Vietnam we play this song every New year. We can say it as a Vietnamese newyear anthem :))). Do Swedishes play it every New year :-?????
The lovely angelic voices of the girls blends fantastically with the great melodie of the ABBA songwriters Benny and Björn...its just pure ear pleasure..
has anyone ever noticed that abba never oversing and dont strain its very smooth can still make it enjoyable unlike whitney houston or a lot of singers of today.
Check out Agnetha and Gary Barlow - I Should Have Followed You Home. 30 something years after this song, Agnetha performed on stage for BBC Children In Need. She has aged beautifully, and her voice still sounds as perfect as it does here.
I love your deep dive into ABBA.Anyone who discovers ABBA for the first time is bound to have the same reaction. They're one of those bands, like the Carpenters, Led Zeppelin and a few others, where the sound is so unique and varied that you just have to keep exploring.
You see my friend, this is the unbelievable, tremendous power of real music. A song written in a whole different world by a bunch of Swedes speaking so deeply four full decades later to an African American guy somewhere in the USA. Art is the native language of the soul and it transcends time, space, culture, everything.
You know what's crazy? they have so many hits but their voices sounded even more beautiful right before the band's breakup, it's amazing, and you're right, just enjoy the music and what it does to your soul. I understand how you feel, i enjoy new music i'm still young enough, but the older music i grew up with makes my soul smile, there's something very special about it.

Lyrically, it chronicles the end of 1979, the end of a decade. There's a level of sadness there. I've put this song on a number of mix cd's. With the right song coming before and after it, it sounds amazing in the car.
My family and I watch this video every 1st of January, after the clock strikes 12. It's a tradition we never miss. We gather around my P.C and enjoy every second of it; ) ABBA lingers in every corner of our house. Thank you for your reaction to it! ;)
this new year another decade will be over, just like in this song. Never gets old, we still don't know what lies ahead for us in the next ten years! I never listen to this song only once, but al least twice every time :) I so love that smile of yours, and I am so happy to accompany you on your journey!
You cannot go wrong with Abba, they can evoke so much emotion. I love The Day Before You Came, Slipping Through My Fingers and The The Visitors. My husband is more od a rock fan (& incredibly musical, he can hear a song & tell what key it is in, etc) and even he is in awe of the songwriting on display here!
did you know abba always completed the music before they wrote lyrics and only recorded anything only if it was good enough also i really like the way old friends do should be used as a anthem very beautiful lyrics. very hopeful and togetherness
ABBA's "The Day Before You Came" is one their most underrated tracks but alot of their fans love it...hope you react to it one day James,......Great reaction from you as ever.
It reminds me of parties my parents used to have when I was a kid in the 70's and early 80's. Good times with good people who are no longer with us, sadly never to return.
I was born in 81, and until the last few years all I knew of Abba was “Dancing Queen”. Not a good indicator of their talent and musical versatility. After I heard/saw the videos for SOS and Knowing Me, Knowing You, I gained appreciation for them. I’ve always liked Punk and Hard Rock, so turning on to Abba has been unlikely. But good music is good music!
When this song was released I was only 8 years old, didn't know who ABBA was. I had just gotten a tape recorder for Christmas and saw this video on t.v. (before Mtv) and recorded it. It haunted me for a few years before I realized who sang it. My mom and dad bought me the Super Trouper album for Christmas in 1986!
I have listened to ABBA before (since I'm from Sweden and all, and my parents listened to ABBA when I was growing up) but I'm re-discovering them now together with you, and I'm hearing them in a new way -and it's so fun! Thank you, and keep up the good work!
Thnaks again for a great reaction! Glad to see that this song and many others of ABBA have touched you, like it did to millions of people all around the world.
Man, I was looking for your reaction to Janis Joplin and...have found that!!! Absolutely shocked!! I was crying in the end of the video, don't know why... Melody, vocals, arrengement and lyrics: awesome in a very high level... who can say what lies waiting down the line in the end of 89! What f. poetry is this, man!?!?!? ... And you've reacted with your eyes expression...no words needed...
Happy new year and Thank you for the music are my favourite ABBA songs. I play Happy new year every new years eve. I too like Agnetha started to sing before i could walk and talk, and i still sing every day. Thank you for your reactions!❤️
Yes! ABBA is an amazing band, but I honestly don't listen to them that often - except for The Visitors, which is just ridiculously good. I've got that saved to several playlists.
Another masterpiece from ABBA. I have read about the video tricks that director Lasse Hallström did for the ABBA-videos. In this video as an example, the scenes where you see the band members turning heads was simply done by someone outside of cameras view turning the chairs they were sitting on. Simple, but it works very well.
I have always been a fan of ABBA's and when this album came out this song was and still is one of my favorites. I have played it every New Year's Eve ever since and it was especially meaningful when I played it New Year's Eve 1989. ABBA's music is timeless. I would like to see your reaction for their song Soldiers from the last album they recorded together "The Visitors"
You should try some of their more "experimental" songs, either Eagle or The Visitor. And the last song of their last album Like an angel passing through my room.
This song is still played on swedish radio and tv every new years eve, I can't remember any new years eve that I haven't heard it. Just came across your channel. Love watching your reactions to ABBAs music and other artists. Music is one of the best things in my life and can't go a single day without it. So keep on listening and share your reactions.
I'm fighting back tears; I recall when this album was released I was about 7 years old, and my dad and I would dance around to their music. And I remember (talk about nostalgia) my dad and I listening to this and talking wonderingly about how crazy it seemed to think of 1989 and wondering where we would be and what we would be doing. Now it's 2020 and we're all dealing with serious illness and facing our mortality in the face, and it's painful to hear this. But beautiful. Thank you for covering this.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful memories with your father. I hope that 2021 finds you in a much better place. Remember, we must continue to "have our hopes (and) our will to try."
This has always been one of my favorite ABBA songs (my parents used to play the 8 track of the Super Trouper album on a loop during road trips). Had no idea there was a video to go with it.
Someone may have already told you this, but ABBA reunited and is coming out with some new singles, possibly an entire new album. It was supposed to have been released in 2019 but has been delayed until 2020. Watching your reactions to ABBA's music takes me back to when I was a kid, laying on my bedroom floor with headphones on, listening to their greatest hits and feeling like I was out of my body.
The way old friends do is a good song as well...they had a mini reunion in 2016 at a little restaurant somewhere in Sweden I think and sang this together, it was beautiful but now someone is saying theres a performance in Wembley in 1979 of the same song.
Brother!!! When I was young and listening to ABBA for the very first time, wanna know what my all time favorite song was?? The very next ABBA song I hadn’t heard yet..
This song in Vietnam every new year. We love this song even we don't know what about the song says :)))). Vietnamese national Television plays this song hundreds times whenever new year ( or nunar New year ). Even I know this is a very sad song, but we don't fucking care about it. You like the Carpenters... you like ABBA... for good reason! So by definition this means you'll also like The Captain and Tennille, from the same era. Look into "Love Will Keep Us Together" and you'll learn why!
No new year celebration without ABBA:s "Happy New Year". It doesn´t matter where I am celebrating. They just have to play "Happy New Year". And I´m usually not the only one who feel that way. We´re usually a lot of people singing along to it. It´s just a part of celebrating New Years in Sweden. Now again we´re in the end of another decade.
One of my ABBA favourites too, along with "One of Us" and "I Have a Dream", which probably identifies me as a glass half empty kind of guy. I happen to have been around and in my early 20s during ABBA's peak but have to admit to not having been a fan. This was the song that made me listen, even though, as a fan of Soul, Funk and Reggae, I would have been embarrassed to admit it. Unfortunately it dates itself in the verse about "the end of the decade . . . . ten years time . . . . end of '89" or else they could re-release it every year just like other acts milk their Christmas songs. Honest question: I wonder if the youth of 2069 will discover any acts deserving of the description genius when they go back 50 years to their grandparents' music.
Shocking to think (for me who was around) that slice of perfection is 40 years old this year. Written during a warmer part of the Cold War the line "what lies waiting down the line, at the end of '89" they could never know that 1989 would see the fall of the Berlin Wall. Just an incredible song from the "Super Trouper" album, which is probably their best whole album.
They wrote some great songs,I remember another great one "(Andante andante) and fore me one of there best and underestimated songs.I think you should play that one.
Although, this isnt one of their greatest hits...it is one of my absolute favorites and I remember hearing it at a Rave party on New Years Eve in Sweden with my first love

Yes! And also "Get on the carousel" (Australian Tour 1977) is a must see.
There’s no such thing as too much ABBA! ❤️❤️❤️
Amen to that 😉
Nope, just nope...
So true!
This song gives my chills and tears to my eyes...
Du är inte ensam...
"The day before you came" is another great Abba song... one of my favourites 😍
Mine too - so different to anything else at the time.

Yes, that's a great song. Barlow is also a great song writer. Since I love dance music/mixes I love the 7th Heaven mix of Should've followed you home.
This song has played on radio and tv all thru Europe on Jan 1. It’s gorgeous. So happy ABBA will release new songs in 2020.
I'm a metal head and I love ABBA. So much talent och great musicianship...those great melodies (and Agneta's voice!).

Yes... in my opinion, they have at least 40 songs I could regularly listen to.
One of us....One of us....One of us ...One of us
ABBA "The Way Old Friends Do" (WEMBLEY - UK - 1979) - amazing live performance!

The Group Blancmange do a great rendition of that song!
freaking love the day before you came. Captures swedish melancholy like nothing else.
also just like that when it is released
I'm rediscovering ABBA through your reactions! You are a beautiful soul. Thank you❤
I was hoping you'd find this one! One of my favourites of Abba.
"perfection" -made me smile when you said that
Same, it gets way too little recognition in my opinion....
Please react Andante Andante, the music is so beautiful. IT has a sweet and powerfull arrangement. That contract is pure heaven.
This was probably my favorite song of theirs. You might like "One Man, One Woman".
I know what you mean - PERFECTION ! Try "Slipping through my fingers" which about watching your child growing up and slipping away (growing up).
I listen to this record whatever the time of year is, stunningly beautiful singing. Abba's videos alway seem to capture the music perfectly..
As much as I love this song, it always makes me sad for some reason... Andante, Andante does the same thing to me.
same for me
Same, but in a beautiful way. Could be the built-in melancholy found in many of their melodies....
It reminds me of parties my parents used to have when I was a kid in the 70's and early 80's. Good times with good people who are no longer with us, sadly never to return.
Keep the ABBA coming! Don't stop.
How many beautiful Abba songs have you listened too ? Sorry to say, but you've only just started !!
You've only got some 85 + to go !!! Cheers.
Ian
They have over 300, and as far as I have checked so far, all written by ABBA
You, my friend, light up when you see and hear Agnetha.
I have felt the same since I was 6 back in 76.
Have fun on your musical quest.

yes he should do that one
React to The Visitors. That song is SO original and quite dark. No other song like it. You wouldn't believe it was ABBA!
You should check up "Im a marionette" with Abba that one is also kinda dark. I bet you would like it.
