The line, “it’s so strange, when you’re down, and lying on their floor, how you rise, shake your head, get up and aak for more” is personally very inspirational for me. The one line has empowered me at several points in my life. I grew up with this being my favorite ABBA song, I was very young when it came out, and it never achieved the popularity I have always felt it deserved.. it makes me so very happy to see the younger generation enjoying it.
But that one line is LIFE to me.

Frida's vocals here are not out of this world, they are so worldly, painful and dignified, and it strikes med and my emotions everytime I hear this song.

I grew up listening to ABBA, but haven't listened properly to their music for a long time. Thankyou for helping me rediscover just how good they were. Please react to "He is Your Brother" and "People Need Hope" and "Nina, Pretty Ballerina" - three early ABBA gems.

You can pick any song from ABBA and its amazing. I'm more into a more heavier music but to write a good pop-song isn't easy and ABBA is the kings and queens of writing a great chorus. If you really listen carefully to their songs you notice how masterful its done. They always use the best musicians and their studio in Stockholm was at that time state of the art. My top Abba-songs are SOS, Gimmie, Gimme, Gimme and of course Dancing queen.

If you're looking for heavier ABBA songs, try I'm A Marionette, Watch Out, So Long, Hole In Your Sole, King Kong Song, Rock Me, Intermezzo No 1 or Hey Hey Helen.

Because of the technology now, you can listen to all the good music across the decades. I hadn't heard this song from and I am a fan of ABBA. I enjoy seeing young people discover this music which is new to them. The songs remind me of happy times. I remember when CDs came out. Then soon after that we could burn CDs where as before we had mix tapes. Now is the best time for music lovers..

This Group split up in 1983. Many people thought they would soon be forgotten. As a fan of ABBA I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the fact that in 2019 a young guy in the US ( where Abba were not as big as in the ROW) is going through their back catalogue which such respect for them!
And Man, you know what? Abba have recorded new songs and will hopefully release them in the next year! I'll check your reaction then!😎

Saw them in concert live at Wembley twice in 1979.
Sounded just as good as the records.
Try and find ABBA the movie which was recorded on their Australian tour, hammy story but still good to see.

Such a beautiful song. Great lyrics (as always with Abba) and great vocals. All before auto-tune and not in their native language. Try Slipping Through My Fingers. ELO will blow your mind if you haven't already reacted to them! Their fellow countrymen Roxette are also worth a listen, especially Joyride and Spending My Time

We were very spoiled, it's true. We had no idea that the well would one day run dry.
When you feel like doing another group of ABBA songs, I would suggest "One Of Us", "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)" and "Voulez-Vous". But there really are no bad choices.

ABBA recorded this song in Spanish ‘No hay a quien culpar’. The video for that features bits from the English version, so you see Frida in exactly the same clothes but with totally different hair styles! Long, brown and curly and then short and red!

The Visitors album was so underrated as it came out just before ABBA split and one of the few Frida takes lead, but for me this is one of their most joyous songs. And yes I was spoilt to have grown up with this music in the 70’s and 80’s. Thank you for reminding me what I took for granted ❤️

  • @edned5504

Best wishes to you JB Lethal. I still have faith in you, and I have subscribed to help in a tiny way. You deserve the best. You said you'd like to have known what the 70s and 80s were like. Life was simpler then, and the world was a much cleaner place with less plastic in the ocean and fewer throwaway things. But there was poverty, racism, starvation and disease as there is now. There were fewer manufactured music acts, and for that we are grateful. And we had Abba, and now 40 years on we still have Abba and when all is said and done there really is no way to shut them down, as a new generation of fans - like you - come along.

Yes, back in the 70' we were were spoiled, but we only realize that now. Back then, there was so much really great music that something new came everyday on the radio. We used to dismiss good stuff because there was so much other good stuff. I have a hard time, today, listening to anything new on the radio because it all sounds so molded, cookie-cutter, and formulated. Not to mention, computer manipulated because the voices are not in key. Nothing seems natural. The girls of ABBA had a pure natural sound, not trying to be over trilled or sparrowed. Just, naturally simple. But, RUclips lets you experience it too, easily enough! Thanks for your reactions, I really enjoy them

You’ve got something going here J. I’ve watched loads of reaction videos yet I find your reactions and comments connect with me. I grew up listening to Beatles and Rolling Stones and when the 60’s were over I shed a tear as I thought that was the end of great music. Then along cane ABBA and we knew we were experiencing something quite special again. I particularly liked ‘That’s Me’ from their Arrival album - a dreamy song that just washes over you. My other favourite was ‘Cassandra’. Yes, of course there were other groups with great songs but like you, I watched in awe as they turned out one great song after another in a way that only The Beatles before them managed to achieve. You’re a cool guy J. You let your emotions hang out there and that’s what makes your vids interesting. - Mike (66) from UK.

Agnetha Faltskog, the blonde from ABBA has a recent album out called A. The song "When You Really Loved Someone" is modern with that 70's vibe you love. Check it out. She's 68 now and her voice is as fresh and has every bit of depth it always had. A minor hit here but a top 10 throughout Europe and Australia.

All of that. We young people used to hang out together every day and play, listen to music, flirt and enjoy being together. I think you would have love it! And Abba has a way of bringing back those feelings in me. Their music has helped me through som rough times and accompanied me through the Good. Do listen to all the songs. Some of my favourite once are the once not so well known. And If you love Agneta Feltskog you should listen to her solo album with the song; Wrap your arms around me! Wish you all the best! This song is underrated, if The Winner Takes It All is Agnetha’s break up song then this must be Fridas. The vocals are so ‘ballsy’ and reflects the different outlooks on life they have. Alright the guys wrote them both but they knew the girls better than any of us.

As a song from their last album, "The Visitors", to have the line "thanks for all your generous love and thanks for all the fun" could sound like a message to fans (even though it isn't). Get the album and listen to the last track "Like an angel passing through my room" eyes closed on headphones. No video to it but it is Frida being perfect and drawing the curtain on ABBA. Honestly, it is gorgous.

Abba's "Andante, Andante" is w/o a doubt (in my mind, anyway), their most underrated compostion, arrangement, & performance; an exquisitely beautiful piece. Fortunately, it was included as part of the Mama Mia sequel soundtrack. But you have to hear the original version; guaranteed to send shivers down your spine. Their early track, "Eagle" is a very musically powerful number.

Nice reaction and insights, James! In 1983 in the U.S, the redhead AnniFrid (she's one of the A's in ABBA ... Agnetha/Bjorn/Benny/AnniFrid) had a solo hit with "I Know There's Something Going On," which was a little more 1980s new-wave synthesizer-pop-sounding than all their previous ABBA hits. By then, she was billed as Frida instead of AnniFrid. ruclips.net/video/372436tJiaM/видео.html

The Swedish glam-pop group ABBA was unique in that each of the members had had successful music careers before coming together as a group. Agnetha married Björn in 1971. and they had a daughter in 1973. Benny and Anni-Frid were dating. Their music reflected their maturity. Thet weren’t some 16 year old pop artist singing about puppy love. Their lyrics held gravity from much longer relationship experience. Benny and Anni-Frid married about the same time Agnetha and
Björn were splitting. Eventually, both marriages would fail, but they kept singing together. As their relationships were failing their music reflected the melancholic changes they were feeling. Poor Agnetha would be singing the emotional heartbreaking lyrics her ex would write for her. ABBA broke up in 1982.
In 1974, they competed in and won the Eurovision Song Contest, a dubious honor as no previous winner had ever achieved any real fame beyond the song they performed in the competition. With their first single not charting in the UK, it looked like ABBA would suffer the same fate.
However, far away in sunny Australia, the host of the weekly Countdown music program, Molly Melbrum, had come into possession of two of their videos (pre-MTV, then called promotional clips), S.O.S. and Mamma Mia. RCA Records was set to release the single S.O.S., but Molly played Mamma Mia. The response was instantaneous. There was just one problem: The kids who stormed record stores couldn’t find the 45 anywhere. Thus began a war between Melbrum and RCA. Melbrum refused to play S.O.S. first and RCA refused to press Mamma Mia. After three weeks, RCA relented. Back in the UK, music executives were shocked to see ABBA atop the Australia charts, so they released it there, and the rest is history. Altogether, the group has sold 380 million records.
In 1977, ABBA made their one and only visit to the country where they were more popular than anywhere else. They gave sold out in minutes concerts in Sydney and Melbourne. If you’re looking at footage from one of the Australia concerts, spotting which city they’re playing in will be no mystery. If it’s driving rain on the thrilled audience, they’re in Sydney.
For the record, Celine Dion (Switzerland) was the other winner of Eurovision who made an international impact, and that’s all, to this day. ABBA defeated, among others, Olivia Newton-John in 1974.
Lest you think Molly is a one-hit wonder himself, he also created industry breakthroughs for Madonna, Meat Loaf, Boz Skaggs, Cindi Lauper, Blondie, and Michael Jackson before they scored success in the US market.
