They are amazing. Bjorn and Benny are musical geniuses. Extremely talented song writers. And those girls could sing! Their music is timeless.
ABBA's music is addictive, it's worldclass.
This song is their FINEST! Harmonies, guitar, horns etc...PURE PERFECTION!!! ABBA FOREVER!
My obsession with ABBA has been going on since 1974.
This is a criminally underrated song, probably their best song in terms of its craftiness, structure, musicality...
I think so
Their most Beatle-esque song, in the best possible way.
I absolutely agree with you. A pop masterpiece.
Yes I it’s their most complex popular hit
Agreed. This is a cornucopia of sounds and moods.
Awesome groovy bass line...Absurdly magical voices and a trumpet-like sound in the chorus... Magic, magic, magic...
This is one of the finest pop songs ever written
This has always been my favorite Abba song.
Far and away my favourite ABBA song. That insistent beat, the backing vocals, that synth trumpet fanfare in the chorus, all add so much to the song to raise it to genius level.
Sion Hughes - Well said. Agree completely!
This is one of their most sophisticated songs. It's got 4 or 5 different melodies, all in less than 5 minutes. And the genius is that you don't realize this until you listen closely, because it all flows so well together. Don't let anyone tell you they made simple music, nothing could be further from the truth.
Probably my favourite ABBA song. Agnetha and Frida both get a chance to shine and Benny and Bjorn continued to evolve their sound. And I'm loving your reactions to their music!
You do realize that you will never get rid of the ABBA "bug"...it will be with you till the end of your days....
This is my FAVORITE ABBA song! So amazing, with all of the transitions & instrumentation.
It is incredible that so many young people have reacted so positively towards ABBA. It just goes to show that their music is not only superb on every level, it is also timeless. For cryin out loud, their popular run was from 74-82. People are still clammering for their songs in 2020, and hoping for new ones in the future. That is greatness that is matched by only a few others.
I could listen to ABBA all day. 😊
there are two constants in life. ABBA and QUEEN.
Ted Gärdestad (a young swedish music prodigy kid) somehow brought ABBA together as a music group when Björn and Benny produced his songs and Agneta Anne-Frid sang the choirs. Not many ABBA fans knows about Ted Gärdestad.
The one constant though are those wonderful harmonies, gives me chills. And I’ve loved her face too, for over 40 years..😍
Sometimes I think that in the US people don't know how big ABBA was. In 1977 they played at the Royal Albert Hall in London - capacity 5,272. Tickets had to be purchased by mail. The box office received 3.5 Million requests for tickets. If they would have been able to handle all of the requests the crowd would have been almost 8 times the size of Woodstock.
I'm still waiting patiently for Gimme Gimme Gimme, Eagle, If It Wasn't For The Nights, Summer Night City and Voulez Vous.😍
Me too! :)
And me 😀
I vote for Eagle, Summer Night City and The Visitors :)
And 'I Have A Dream' :)
If It Wasn't For The Nights is Dancing Queen on steroids.
Yes Yes Yes I said this before, ABBA is the soundtrack of my life. And i enjoy your reactions to them so much. "The name of the game" spent 4 weeks at no.1 in the UK. There are so many more masterpieces they released. Thank you so much for this reaction.
My favourite Abba song, a touch of magic, ageless.
The thing that amazes me about ABBA , that very few other groups have managed to accomplish, is their voices are the main instrument in the song, and all other musical instruments simply play back up to their voices. Much love
I grew up with ABBA in the seventies, and I was engrossed by their music. At first the group wasn't popular in Sweden among all progg musicans.
But their music then conquered the world, and the rest is history.
And their music never get old....
Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
ABBA were so good that they had more consecutive No 1 albums(8) than The Beatles in The UK
Yes, ABBA getting the credit they deserve right here! They can be addicting, I know. I've had ABBA fever myself, recently. It felt so good, it was painful. I love them so much.
They never disappointed ! Their liverecordings were even better than their studiorecordings ......
Love your reaction and that get the magnificent talent of these 4 people. There is a reason they are one of the top-selling groups in history, with 500,000,000 records sold worldwide, and 28 hits, and they were only active for about 8 years. That is in the Beatles and Michael's orbit. Such talented singers, musicians, writers, producers, and arrangers. It's like they invented pop music!
Hi James, do yourself a favour and react to ABBA The day before you came. I think it was the last song they recorded together and it's also their darkest. A masterpiece.
I agree...their command of English in the writing of the lyrics could fool anyone that English was their native language.
One man, one woman...a very bittersweet song, well worth a listen.
"That's me" as wel..
But don't listen at the breakfast table!
They just make perfect music don't they? The arrangements, the harmonies, the vocals...a perfect blend almost every time! Great song! Universally understandable lyrics: This is what goes through every lover's mind as they're beginning to fall more deeply. Does your partner feel the same? If you share your feelings will they reciprocate or leave you feeling like a fool? 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 ❤️✌🏻✌🏻❤️
I grew up with ABBA and love them so underrated their music will always last
As I was growing up, I remembered a song I sang when I was 3 years old that had to do with a game. When Abba's 20th anniversary songs came out, I realized this was the song. This is my favorite Abba song.
Yes!!! Passion! You got it in mass!!! Such a joy to see your Abba reactions! (I'm ashamed to say, but I have'nt seen your other reactions yet). But i completely understand your "obsession" twith Abba. So much joy, so much fantastic music and lyrics. They go beyond all genres. Make you feel human! Gets deep in an easy way, so to say.
They have immense charisma.
You have to look the Abba documentary. This kind of music is hard work.
There ya go!! One of my favorites of Abba! LIsten to my requests; you can't go wrong!! :-)
This is a very good ABBA song.but ..so are all of them..like the video much too....so soft song...perfect harmonies,melody..perfection...do more..
Hey James, back to ABBA again ! I love them, one of my favorite bands..!
My favorite ABBA song.
One of my favorite ABBA songs. The girls voices sound incredible on this song. ABBA got back together in April 2018 and recorded 2 new songs. As far as I know they haven't been released yet. I'm dying to hear some new ABBA. There's even rumors of a new ABBA album coming out, but we'll see. Great reaction!
Still so many ABBA songs to discover, it never ends :) Here are my favourites that you haven't heard yet:
The Day Before You Came (1982) 5:50
Eagle (Album Version) (1977) 5:51
I'm a Marionette (1977) 3:54
The Way Old Friends Do (live) (1980) 2:53
Summer Night City (Full-length Version) (1978) 4:18
I Have a Dream (1979) 4:44
Lay All Your Love on Me (1980) 4:33
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (Full-length Version) (1979) 4:49
I Let the Music Speak (1981) 5:20
Voulez-Vous (Album Version) (1979) 5:11
I've Been Waiting for You (1975) 3:39
My Love, My Life (1976) 3:52
I Wonder (Departure) (1977) 4:33
Tiger (1976) 2:55
The Visitors (Album Version) (1981) 5:49
Cassandra (1981) 4:50
Arrival (1976) 3:00
SOS (1975) 3:22
Our Last Summer (1980) 4:18
Hole in Your Soul (1977) 3:41
They completely mastered the art of a melody and countermelody. Verse and chorus. Some songs even have two different choruses, which just seem to work naturally with each other. Then upon that, bridges are often small works of art in themselves. Like the acapella part in this song for example. And the girls were both trained sopranos with incredible range. They also had access to the cream of Swedish studio musicians at the time, plus an inventive and skilled studio engineer.
You should react to more ABBA song, like Thats me,My love My Life,Tiger,Soldiers,Kisses Of Fire,Gimme,Gimme,Gimme,Chiquitita,Angel Eyes and SOS
This track by abba is the most underated song they recorded only number one in the uk very adult themed song so catchty
I saw an interview with one of the guys (Bjorn, I think) ... ABBA has been in the studio working on new music and hope to release this year!
The trumpets 🎺 ❤️❤️❤️
It’s funny you say about a rap song as TNOTG was sampled by The Fugees for their track ‘Rumble In the Jungle’. The only other Abba track they ever allowed to be sampled was ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ for Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’
Didn´t they allow Roma Kenga to sample "Summer night city" in 2010 (even with their vocals) ? I´m not sure, but it was a hit in russia, so i guess that was legal. Maybe someone has informations about that.
ABBA were just something else. Please ready to The Visitors. It’s an amazing track of theirs. It wasn’t a single but it really set the tone at the start of the 80s with concerns about the Cold War. They were also about to split up as a group so there’s added tension too.
As for other female artists, I know you’ve reacted to some Kate Bush before. She is one of a kind. Cloudbusting, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Army Dreamers, Breathing, King Of The Mountain, the whole of side 2 of Aerial, and the whole of The Ninth Wave.
Also, I think you would love Judie Tzuke. Stay With Me Til Dawn was her only hit but she’s had so many great songs.
I love ABBA. Great stuff.
It is so easy to fall in love with them. Their talent and personalities, not to mention looks, draws you in like a magnet. It doesn't matter if you are male or female. It is good to fall in love with something that brings out the passion in you. Trust me.
The Fugees used a sample of this in ‘Rumble in the jungle’. It was the first time that Benny and Björn have allowed a sample. In fact they’ve only allowed it twice. The other was Madonna for ‘Hung Up’.
Agnetha and Frida were naturally beautiful...what a fantastic group!!
Chiquitita, easily my favourite Abba song, and Lay all your love on me.
Love Abba and you! :)
This was my favorite band during childhood, it was the most popular band (in Europe at least) for a decade, so no wonder man, they were good.
More ABBA is great
Yay! More ABBA! ❤️❤️
More ABBA? YAAAAAAY!
Great reaction - an automatic thumbs up and ..... you have taste if you like Abba!
At their prime they were the biggest band in the world. Their music is still amazing!
Sort of their "God only knows". Love, man.
This is a great song that was one of their last hits before they "retired" in '81/'82.
They had a terrific production sound that was years ahead of their time.
Led Zeppelin recorded their last album "In Through The Out Door" in ABBA's studio and the difference was striking. It made them sound like a different band
Well, Led Zeppelin last album sounds different but it's not because of what you said, it's because Jimmy Page become a deeper heroin consumer, so John Paul Jones, the bassist and keyboards player was on command of most of the arrangements, dominated by keyboards and a more melodic sound
Viejotrueno I'm speaking of the deep sonic range in the studio mix
This song is from 1977. Maybe you're confusing it with When All Is Said and Done.
Top 3 greatest song writers of all time...
I grew up listening to them, and still do!
Obsession?? We all do Brother... When it comes to ABBA
this was soul music.. Love from Africa
Never miss an ABBA-tunity to listen to their songs man!
Love your ABBA reactions. Have your reacted to 'The Visitors' or 'Like an angel passing through my room'? Completely different songs, gloomy and sad, but brilliant. No videos were made, but you can find the audios with lyrics on youtube.
Be grateful for the Abba-tunity to listen to this.
The intro of this was memorably sampled by Fugees and Tribe Called Quest on Rumble in The Jungle. You should check that out if you don't already know it.
I'm surprised more people have not mentioned this....
when i heard abba songs ... i feel it's timeless and Many of youth memories pass in front of me .... thank you bro for blowing our minds
Please react to Abba's 'Eagle' - their best song ever...
You had a good ABBA'tunity to listen to the best music.
Turn the volume up!!!!!!!
OH!!!! Bjorn and Benny scored the musical, Chess. Speaking of them doing a rap, check out One Night in Bangkok by Murray Head. It's not them singing, but it's their composition!
It was a great success this song. The Fugees sampled the intro of this song.
Thank you, you said it as it is, lovely to hear and see your reaction! All the best from Finland (subbed!)
I'm so glad you enjoy music from the past because so many young people could not relate
I started really listening to ABBA when I was 9, in 1977, when The Name Of The Game came out. I can even remember the first time I heard it on the radio!
I adore this song and also think this song is more adapted for America
The music is just so pretty, isn't it?
They were heavily influenced by American R & M most notably Tamla-Motown as it's known in Europe. Benny (The Bearded One) grew up on Little Richard & Chuck Berry. Anni Frid aka Frida did her Version of Baby Love in Swedish in the 1960's. From 1974-1982 they "owned" the Swedish Charts. They were next to The Volvo Car and Pippi Longstocking a National Treasure. When Ace Of Base came along they were compared to them and the bar was so high it was very hard for them. Also, when they started out they were called The Swedish Mamas & Papas. They also were the only Act from Sweden to do American Bandstand in 1975.
Oooooh. ABBA. 💕
SOS and CHIQUITITA!!!!!!!! My all time two favorite ABBA songs!!! PLEASE?!??!?!
If you want a song to cheer you up on a Saturday, try listening to I've Been Waiting For You by ABBA! Quite an unknown gem by many! In fact, ABBA is like The Beatles or Elvis, There are like endless amounts of good songs! And you haven't even reacted yet to what Pete Townsend of The Who called the best pop song ever, S.O.S.! Or what about the groovy Summer Night City!
The Fugees were the first group to sample an ABBA song (name of the game) and theres a video for it featuring John Forte so it was a rap song :). The second ever was Madonna (she sampled Gimme Gimme Gimme a Man after midnight). ABBA is very particular about their songs being sampled
Try “ should I laugh or cry “ or “ lay all your love on me”
Sooooo many good ones. I used to listen to waterlooradio.net but it had to shut down. All ABBA 24/7.
Great reaction to a timeless great.
I have a request for you, and that is the last song ABBA ever recorded, well... until recently. There are a couple of new songs on their way, actually! The song I am thinking about is The Day Before You Came. This is a legendary song, and there are a lot of theories about the meaning of the lyrics, especially in the context of the video. It is not necessarily as simple as it seems!
😁Funny how we posted the same song recommendation almost at the same time. Crazy!
@@briankinney8056 It is because the song is so great! We had to post it instantly after we found out that JB was back on ABBA!
Cool ~~~~& fantastic!
Great reaction. It still surprises me that it surprises people to learn ABBA is among the top 20 best selling groups of all time. It only takes one listen to understand why, IMHO.
You are such a poet the way you react to and describe music! I think it's your super power, and a gift to us. Keep it up! Much love : )
I also love ABBA Man !!!! LG from Austria 👍❤😘🌹🇦🇹
You haven’t listened to SOS, which is arguably their best song
He has!
@@synchronicityman9062 Where is it? The Seaside Special version is my fave.
I am almost sure he did a reaction to it a few months ago. It was the official video. Perhaps he had to take it down for copyright reasons. Or perhaps I'm having a senior moment. LOL. Great song though.
Have you watched documentaries about ABBA's backstory?
I agree my favourite song by them I’ve looked back and can’t find it unfortunately
Your reactions to Abba can make my day!
when you discover ABBA's sound for the first time
Thanks for reacting to this. One of my favorites and a suggestion I gave. Appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed! And I totally agree with your comment about how versatile and diversified their song catalog is.
Ann-Frida, Benny Anderson , Bjorn , Agnetha. Were the 4 people in group . Supposedly Benny and Frida were a couple and for sure Bjorn and Agnetha were married for years . You can Google their wedding
Timeless..you said it
