Far and away my favourite ABBA song. That insistent beat, the backing vocals, that synth trumpet fanfare in the chorus, all add so much to the song to raise it to genius level.

  • @Pulsar77

This is one of their most sophisticated songs. It's got 4 or 5 different melodies, all in less than 5 minutes. And the genius is that you don't realize this until you listen closely, because it all flows so well together. Don't let anyone tell you they made simple music, nothing could be further from the truth.

It is incredible that so many young people have reacted so positively towards ABBA. It just goes to show that their music is not only superb on every level, it is also timeless. For cryin out loud, their popular run was from 74-82. People are still clammering for their songs in 2020, and hoping for new ones in the future. That is greatness that is matched by only a few others.

Sometimes I think that in the US people don't know how big ABBA was. In 1977 they played at the Royal Albert Hall in London - capacity 5,272. Tickets had to be purchased by mail. The box office received 3.5 Million requests for tickets. If they would have been able to handle all of the requests the crowd would have been almost 8 times the size of Woodstock.

The thing that amazes me about ABBA , that very few other groups have managed to accomplish, is their voices are the main instrument in the song, and all other musical instruments simply play back up to their voices. Much love

I grew up with ABBA in the seventies, and I was engrossed by their music. At first the group wasn't popular in Sweden among all progg musicans.
But their music then conquered the world, and the rest is history.

Love your reaction and that get the magnificent talent of these 4 people. There is a reason they are one of the top-selling groups in history, with 500,000,000 records sold worldwide, and 28 hits, and they were only active for about 8 years. That is in the Beatles and Michael's orbit. Such talented singers, musicians, writers, producers, and arrangers. It's like they invented pop music!

They completely mastered the art of a melody and countermelody. Verse and chorus. Some songs even have two different choruses, which just seem to work naturally with each other. Then upon that, bridges are often small works of art in themselves. Like the acapella part in this song for example. And the girls were both trained sopranos with incredible range. They also had access to the cream of Swedish studio musicians at the time, plus an inventive and skilled studio engineer.

Didn´t they allow Roma Kenga to sample "Summer night city" in 2010 (even with their vocals) ? I´m not sure, but it was a hit in russia, so i guess that was legal. Maybe someone has informations about that.

ABBA were just something else. Please ready to The Visitors. It’s an amazing track of theirs. It wasn’t a single but it really set the tone at the start of the 80s with concerns about the Cold War. They were also about to split up as a group so there’s added tension too.
As for other female artists, I know you’ve reacted to some Kate Bush before. She is one of a kind. Cloudbusting, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Army Dreamers, Breathing, King Of The Mountain, the whole of side 2 of Aerial, and the whole of The Ninth Wave.
Also, I think you would love Judie Tzuke. Stay With Me Til Dawn was her only hit but she’s had so many great songs.

This is a great song that was one of their last hits before they "retired" in '81/'82.
They had a terrific production sound that was years ahead of their time.
Led Zeppelin recorded their last album "In Through The Out Door" in ABBA's studio and the difference was striking. It made them sound like a different band

    • @JulioLeonFandinho
      @JulioLeonFandinho 4 года назад

Well, Led Zeppelin last album sounds different but it's not because of what you said, it's because Jimmy Page become a deeper heroin consumer, so John Paul Jones, the bassist and keyboards player was on command of most of the arrangements, dominated by keyboards and a more melodic sound

They were heavily influenced by American R & M most notably Tamla-Motown as it's known in Europe. Benny (The Bearded One) grew up on Little Richard & Chuck Berry. Anni Frid aka Frida did her Version of Baby Love in Swedish in the 1960's. From 1974-1982 they "owned" the Swedish Charts. They were next to The Volvo Car and Pippi Longstocking a National Treasure. When Ace Of Base came along they were compared to them and the bar was so high it was very hard for them. Also, when they started out they were called The Swedish Mamas & Papas. They also were the only Act from Sweden to do American Bandstand in 1975.

The song I am thinking about is The Day Before You Came. This is a legendary song, and there are a lot of theories about the meaning of the lyrics, especially in the context of the video. I am almost sure he did a reaction to it a few months ago. It was the official video. Perhaps he had to take it down for copyright reasons. Or perhaps I'm having a senior moment. LOL. Great song though.

Thanks for reacting to this. One of my favorites and a suggestion I gave. Appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed! And I totally agree with your comment about how versatile and diversified their song catalog is.

Ann-Frida, Benny Anderson , Bjorn , Agnetha. Were the 4 people in group . Supposedly Benny and Frida were a couple and for sure Bjorn and Agnetha were married for years . You can Google their wedding
