The fact that he would have used Anakin's lightsaber now explains an old action figure from 2005. When they first released all the ROTS toys prior to the movie coming out, there was a Palpatine action figure from that scene where he had a blue saber instead of red. Because it was believed to be an error, it was quickly changed to red and the blue saber version became extremely rare. And even more interesting, that figure also seems to be holding Anakin's hilt. Guess now we know it was never an error after all

To add to what you correctly said, I think the scene would also have worked much better if Anakin had arrived AFTER Palpatine had had his force lightning reflected back at him. Anakin would then not know how it happened. He might assume Windu had done it. The shock value for him of seeing his friend disfigured would have been greater. Also as a plea for sympathy "Hey, Anni, I was just chilling in my office when he just burst in and attacked me, look what he did to my face!" works far better than "Hey, Anni, I know I just revealed my badass sith power which I lied to you about by trying to fry Mace alive like a chicken, but I'm just a nice, innocent old guy, honest!"

      @Jiub_SN 11 месяцев назад +15

I disagree tbh, I think the scene is perfect as is. Lucas wasn't an idiot and this scene didn't happen in a vacuum. If anakin walked in afterwards his decision to help palpatine would've made him less responsible for what came after. He made the conscious decision to go against the Jedi here and join the sith, doing it your way would cheapen the choice he makes here and would have to happen later which may make anakin less susceptible overall and may result in him changing his kind

That kick Mace did to disarm Sheev should have ended with his leg being chopped off. But if Sheev sensed Anakin's arrival and gave up willingly, Mace would have sensed that shift in his focus and seen an opportunity for the kick. Perhaps, that was exactly what Sheev wanted in that moment.
The fact that Sheev unleashed his full power only seconds later, after Anakin sliced Mace's hand off, is all the proof I need for this. But I understand people who root for Windu, he is played by one of the most awesome actors in history.

It would make sense if one or two of them were slain right away due to surprise, but the original intention of having Kit Fisto last longer makes more sense. I think the overall fight between Palpatine and Mace actually works pretty well in the film if you don't have the context of this extra footage. I'm kinda confused why they didn't use the full choreo with the stunt double because they obviously did use a stunt double for _some_ shots in the final. The movie would have played better if General Grievous was an unseen offscreen mcguffin who only serves to isolate Anakin from Obi-Wan, by cutting all of the GG scenes there would have been more time to focus on the important aspect of the film which is the corruption of Anakin Skywalker. I don't mind truncated Kit Fisto scenes largely because with all of the money and talent that they throw at these movies the aliens often look like Don Post masks. I should take that back Don Post masks in the 1970s looked better than what they pull off. I know people hate on Valloren but at least their aliens looked convincing.

It makes sense when you think about his reasoning for it, if palpatine was way cooler in this fire then that would imply every Jedi was way cooler as a result of them all being able to fight palpatine. That said, the weak point is definitely that the first Jedi die so badly. They even have an lightsaber style dedicated to deflecting projectiles so it even makes more sense.
Before thinking in what I call the "Open Field-Straight Line Fallacy" in which you just think you can shoot the other guy and he's running straight at you think about what else he has and does that make that a little bit more difficult since he's also trying to kill you and survive. Like, you can't just "shoot a jedi" because they're either fast, deflecting, and/or just holding their hand out and catching your shots as they come at you really fast. Context will help you land your shots
Now with that tangent out of the way, there books make Palpatines fight with Mace and the other Jedi a lot more exciting and Anime-ish which as you know translate poorly to live action. Oal had two goals in that fight: kill Mace and/or take anakin. He failed one

I'm assuming you're okay with a bit of spoilers from the book if you're asking me this question. 😄
I can only really say that things play out a bit differently. The scene, like many others in the book, are given a lot more detail. For instance, the Dooku/Anakin duel was considerably longer in the book, going into Dooku's thought process and motivation a bit more. I guess that should be expected from a novel compared to a screenplay though.
      Sorry, got sidetracked 😅
The short answer is no. It goes somewhat like the movie. But it's up for debate whether Sidious let Windu "win"... Sidious decapitates, impales, and destroys two Jedi before dueling with Kit Fisto and Windu simultaneously. His speed was ridiculous and it appeared he was toying with/humiliating the Jedi almost. Mace even recognized at one point his Vaapad (form VII), which is itself a ferocious form of saber combat, could not overpower the sith.
Some differences I can note in the novel are the brutal impaling and decapitation of the 2 Jedi in the beginning of combat, the 2 vs 1 with Kit and Windu against Sidious, Anakin is outside the window on a speeder watching all this go down instead on walking in last minute, and Windu cut the Dark Lord's saber instead of a kick to the face. At which point Sidious and Windu speak about fear (can't remember the conversation), instead of Sidious saying, "No, no, no... You will die!"
      Anyway... Long tangent, sorry. 😆
It's up for debate, but to answer your question, I think Sidious let's Windu "win" in both the movie and the novel.
Not trying to discredit Windu, he was a ferocious fighter... But Sidious was on a whole different level.

I’m not sure that’s true about the Kit Fisto actor being replaced after filming the original idea with anikan in the room.
The episode 2 actor Zach Jensen was part of the construction crew for the sets specifically for episode 2 and was asked if he wanted to be in the film.
Ben Cooke was a stunt performer hired to be doing stunts for episode 3.
The one still that’s included in this video is very clearly the episode 3 mask. (Albeit perhaps a more rough stunt mask).
If you put episode 2 and 3 kit fisto next to eachother you can see they’re done very differently.
Episode actually has the actors own mouth free and painted to blend in with the prosthetic. Episode 3 has a very different mask that covers the entire face.
I think these scenes were always Ben Cooke but the mask in the still is a stunt mask that isn’t glued down but perhaps allows more freedom. Maybe if more footage can be found we can know for sure, but I can’t imagine a crew member would be rehired to do specific stunt choreography imo.

What I said to Nick was absolutely disrespectful, abhorrent, and outright vile. However, it’s important to establish that Nick is leaving out key elements of the story as to why those things were said at all. He’s also adding in some lies (such as that I removed his logo/watermark, which I never did). Nevertheless, there is no excuse for the things that I said to such a hero in the fanbase, but I simply got caught up in my own rage of the moment. Allow me to explain from the very beginning.
My conversation with Nick first began on October 14 when I explained that I like to analyze scenes that were deleted from Star Wars. I asked him if he could share the extended Palpatine vs 4 Jedi footage. I spoke to him with nothing but adoration, praise, and respect.
2 weeks later on November 1st, he shared the very footage that I had asked for, and I sent him another message letting him know how much I appreciated him for doing that. We chatted back and forth a bit, but I didn’t hear back from him again until about a week later.
On November 8th, rather than texting me like usual, he sent me an email cursing at me.
Despite him cursing at me, I was very apologetic, respectful, and even said “If you want me to remove anything or make any changes, please just let me know...”
He didn’t respond to me, so I decided to send him another text message where I told him
“Hopefully you can see man to man, that this was just a misunderstanding. I fully apologize and want you to know that I’m genuinely sorry.
If you’d like me to remove the content, please let me know…”
He NEVER responded to this text message, and I did not hear from him again until 2 months later.
I was more than willing to take down the videos, or make any adjustments, but then in January, I received 6 copyright takedown notifications from Nick. This was when I sent those nasty messages to him.
Was I wrong? Of course I was. There’s no excuse for that amount of disrespect. I was just very upset and overwhelmed about my channel receiving so many copyright strikes when I had specifically told him that I would just remove anything that he wanted me to.
I would like the opportunity to apologize to Nick myself, but naturally, I have since been blocked.

calling dooku a simple fight... clearly disney has addled your mind. dooku was the preeminent lightsaber duelist of that era, no one could best him in single combat. he was famed for it while in the order. he was the only living force user of that era to master form 2 a style dedicated to fighting against other lightsaber wielders, making him practically a hard counter to any jedi which is why palpatine grabbed him up as a temporary replacement apprentice for the decade surrounding the clone wars. his mastery of the force was rivaled only by yoda, and his mastery of the lightsaber was rivaled by none.

Let's also remember that Sheev betrayed him at very last moment, 2 hands could have been replaced. But Anakin killing him was never part of the plan, as far as Dooku was concerned.
People seem to forget that he held his own against Yoda, even if he decided to run in the end. For one, he would have stomped Maul, even in his 20s. The dark side made him stronger, according to Yoda. Or at least the general experience since they last saw each other did.
The point is, Dooku was at his peak in his 80s. And he mopped the floor with everyone except his master and 3 Jedi (Yoda, Mace and Anakin). That makes him one of the strongest Force-sensitives in galactic history.

That's awesome Nick gives you information and content to share. It's hard to imagine how Lucas could have gotten this pivotal moment so wrong. Changing the fight and forcing Ian to do it not only made the fight pathetic, but also made the Jedi who went with Windu look beyond inept. I would love to have seen the duel we are getting glimpses of here.

This explain a lot. The fight between Dooku and Kenobi/Anakin at the end of AotC was clearly cut short to make space for a duel against Yoda, a late addition to the script.
In the BTS the stunt coordinator tells he created a choreography that would have intensify with time, each next move nearly a checkmate. Instead, we got a shorter version that ends with Kenobi knocked down and an abrupt cut to Anakin with his arm wide open for no reason only to be cut by a light saber.

The part about him being a Shakespearean actor makes me imagine a slightly altered classic line.. “whether tis nobler to suffer the sabers and blasters of outrageous fortune, or take arms against a sea of Jedi…” then Anakin runs in, “Oooo, did somebody say something about taking arms? Or maybe.. haaands? 😏”

I'm not too upset about three jedi masters getting killed within minutes of igniting their lightsabers, but I think it works out with the whole theme of the prequels:
The jedi order had grown arrogant and stagnant in their position of power. It makes sense that as soon as the secret sith lord was discovered, they'd walk in there and assume everything would go exactly like it did a thousand years ago when the sith order was (supposedly) wiped out.
In their arrogance, they had no reason to assume Palpatine would be a threat, especially not against four jedi masters.
    They were mistaken.

I mean to be fair, only Kit and Mace did anything in the original fight anyway. The other two (Tin and Kolar) get bodied just as fast as the movie. Kit actually backs up Mace originally and even holds his own for a good chunk of the overall fight. He only ends up dying because Palpatine specifically fought with only one blade and used the most aggressive form to ramp up his speed and give Kit less room to swing. Kit's form works best against multiple opponents or multiple swords, and he was THE BEST up to this point in history at it. I've seen legitimate arguments that Kit was better at swordsmanship than Anakin and Obi-wan, and the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" of the forms is why he wasnt the best duelest period.

Often a lot of the time we're WOWED by new footage is because we've seen the original so many times that we cant not center on and become fixated by the mistakes or how we think the fights could have gone better. Personally I like the idea that Palpatine goes off and cuts through 3 of the Jedi like they were nothing before going toe to toe with Mace. But I also feel that Palpatine was stalling for time before Anakin arrived so he Palpatine could put himself in a vulnerable position and allow Anakin to make a decision, I don't think for a moment that Palpatine was ever in danger or ever out of control. He's like Hannibal Lecter with a lightsaber. And the fact he just goes through 3 Jedi like they were nothing helps back up just how powerful Palpatine was. Still, I would have enjoyed watching a fight where he did a bunch of ninja moves with 4 Jedi masters. But that's after the fact, at the cinema back in 2005 I was like 'WOW!!! Damn look at that'. I was 17 and WOWZERS!!! One minute he's this calm, aging politician and the next he's zipping around in the air and giving Mace a run for his money, which I enjoyed because I always thought Mace was a smug git. But then after multiple, multiple and multiple re watches I was like hang on a minute!!! Why is he carrying Anakin's lightsaber, why are there all these strange closeups of Ian pulling funny faces and wielding a lightsaber like he's a stiff old man, as opposed to a powerful Sith lord.

What I love about high level lightsaber combat is it's basically a 3 dimensional chess game being played by prescient beings, an intensely sophisticated dance of moves and counter-moves, where any mistake could spell instant death or lifelong disfigurement. The only way to avoid that fate is to drill yourself to be the peak of martial arts. Beyond that, it comes down to your ability in the Force and your own resourcefulness. In Palpatine's case, he and the Sith loathed the Jedi so much that he forced himself to master all forms of it to humiliate them.

Interesting to learn, thanks. Not sure if it really would've been "the best", but I'm a little lukewarm on the flashy jedi fights in general. They're not bad, they just consistently always feel a bit fake since there's a lot of "flashy for flashy's sake" moves that get used.
Honestly Andor is quickly becoming my favorite Star Wars content because it's so grounded and realistic. When someone pulls a blaster, it's a real threat instead of a joke.
That's what I'd love to see from Star Wars: the version where force users are grounded. Where you _can_ block blaster shots, but it requires concentration, and if the enemy distracts or overwhelms you, you get hit and die. Where non-force-users approach combat smarter, probably using their ranged advantage or traps in order to deal with the jedi threat. It'd be fine if 'anti-Jedi tactics' aren't well-known because this hypothetical series takes place in a time when they're rare, but that still won't mean that a guy with a blaster is going to slowly walk forward firing it -- he's going to take cover and shoot smart.
And then when you do get to the actual saber vs. saber duels, have them really feel like serious sword fights where death is on the line. Fewer flashy moves. Probably don't _entirely_ eliminate flashiness: I'm not recommending The Duelists-style fights where much of the duel is spent waiting and looking for minute openings before striking (extremely realistic, but also quite boring). I'm just hoping for a middle ground where the swords feel more real and lethal and the participants really feel like they're fighting a life-or-death struggle.
Basically it's a bit like wanting 'Andor with Jedi' (but I also still want Andor; it's amazing).

George has an interesting sense of what's necessary and proper.
i appreciate that he wanted to be able to say ''that WAS Ian. we didn't cut corners, we did it the hard way, i think what we gave up for that WAS worth it.'' i think that when we see more and more CGI and AI replace the actors with digital models, way beyond Andy Serkis Mo-Cap, George will be vindicated for this decision, for this fight, but at the same there's no denying that A LOT was sacrificed and this decision was not cheap. i like the zoom in shots on faces, i like imagining what's going through the minds of the characters as much as l like seeing the combat moves. George has in mind what his ideal audience is, and i know he wants to tell his story to people who can fill in some of the missing parts with their imagination. obviously A New Hope was not as action packed a saber fight as it could have been, but George figured that the emotions of the Death Star duel was more important that the physical fight moves, and he was definitely right about that one. maybe there is no perfect way to do Emperor Palpatine dueling because no actor that could play a good Palpatine in a remake is likely to be able to physically do the fight scene without going to more CGI. there's always going to the question of the trade-off, when is CGI good to add and when is it bad. George's decisions on the subject are controversial, but very thought-provoking, and i like how deliberate he is. he has a reason every time, even when people don't agree with him. i like trying to understand his vision the way he wanted it made.
