Hey, don't get rid of that rotting straw that you were raking away from the garden! Use it as mulch/compost. Saint Fiacre (of gardening and herbal medicines) was from Ireland (600s CE), and he would not approve of wasting such organic richness. (Even if he did bugger off to France, he's still Irish by birth.)
Haha, we have yet to reach agricultural age
@@SmoothGefixt Bah! i saw you using a draft animal to pull that wagon earlier! Or borrowing it. You really need to keep up with your neighbors! And do think of getting a vacuum cleaner / garbage disposal soon. It's getting towards late spring, so someone is bound to have a litter of piglets running around somewhere, soon!
@@ladyofthemasque The two of them seem to be members of the Clean Plate Club ;) Not so many scraps fall to earth, and those that do are likely leapt upon by dogs!
Excellent production fellas, this series you're making is definitely something to look forward too, all the best regards from here on the West Coast side of Australia 🌏🖖🙏🤟
looking forward to watch the 60 day living episodes keep up the great work guys SMOOTH 💪🏾🤙🏾 watching from the Sunshine Coast Australia 🇦🇺
Love the medieval tarp, who knew that woad would make such a clear blue:)
I’m so happy your back weekly! I discovered your channel during lockdown. Your challenges together were my favourite. I hope after the roundhouse series you go back to doing them. Please continue to post weekly.
What an epic production! 60 day challenge awaits!
never forget to like all the video that how i support this channel 😎
YESSS! Friday is saved. cant wait to watch this!
Hey Julius & Dylan...!!!🙂
Just found your channel this evening when a student sent a link to the thatching project you're doing now...Love that you show it all...the good, bad, ugly...and beautiful...That is honest documenting...Good for you!!!
I have been an indigenous arts teacher, wilderness guide, as well as Timberwright, and related folk arts practitioner for over 40 years now (still teaching and building.) If you ever find a need or want of a question and think I can be of help, please do reach out...
Here is a link to a dear friend, colleague, and someone I have mentored now for almost 10 years. We met by his wish to learn more about homesteading traditionally. Josh (aka Mr. Chickadee) is one of the most talented young men I have met that has the gift of mastering a given craft in a fraction of the time it takes others. Most of what you see in his earlier videos are his first or maybe third attempts at something. Now, almost a decade later, I have no issue calling him professional at many of these skill sets. Hope you enjoy watching his work, which is similar to your own...
Looking forward to more of your videos and the work you both are doing...
Blessings,
j

My Friday is saved too👍🔥🌳👍
This is a legit show. Watching from Tennessee, USA
Its one thing to build a cool structure like this, it's even cooler still to do the experimental archeology to actually live in the structure, and to learn the practical needs to really make it work as a real place to live, solving problems like this smoke issue, furniture, the muddy floor, and so on. This project could end up being quite enlightening.
Love watching you guys thank you for great entertainment and sharing all the best Budo
I have gotten my entire family hooked on this channel 😁 amazing to see the finishing touches guys.
This was beautifully shot and edited. Nice work as always.
What a task! You nailed it in the end though, great persistence 💪
Walks out of house with a great big smile and even bigger mallet. lol
Hi Guys and Girls , you need a drainage ditch around the Hut ! all of the Roundhouses that I have seen Dug , have had a drainage ditch .
How cool would it be to have a community that build and live in these houses
Count me in.
It would be like the past has made it's way to the present... An actual Celtic medieval village. Now that would be something to see, although i can't imagine there are that many people out there that are as talented with bushcraft as these two
Let's do it as social experiment
Look up Earthships dude
@@troycassidy6177 Yeah, very cool, but very different.
Love watching these from Australia but it makes me so homesick ..
Lesgooo new smooth gefixt
The Reed harvest in the old days, before rubber boots, must have been a terribly chilly affair.
Improvise, adapt, overcome! 👍👍
I love your channel and look forward every week to new adventures
The round house witch’s hat looked perfect a bit askew I say :).
SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH gefixed jonge!!!
House of dream
Awesome sauce. A new episode. Thanks guys.
i've been waiting for the series of you to stay on the roundhouse..hello from the Philippines 🤙
Love that you guys are figuring it out trial and error and showing the process. Makes it all that much more interesting and real to watch. Keep on keepin on, your almost there.
Looking forward to seeing the next episode
Woooooppp its Smoothgefixt friday 🥰
Not without sinead!😅
Looking forward to seeing you guys spending time there, awesome place!
So excited that you guys are back and posting! I really appreciate that you guys are posting real living abodes and not Man caves or club houses.
Brilliant episode. Paths to reduce footfall on ground flora 👍 great conservation measure. Looking forward to the next episode.
Have you seen yourself!?? haha, thanks my man James
@@SmoothGefixt
Ya seen myself on the reed harvest. Killer to see the work that went into the cap to be remade. But that's what I love about this channel, very honest content. Hopefully I'll be passing before you enter the roundhouse. Keep up the good work lads. Great viewing!!
Very nice Videos, loads of beautiful cuts! Love to keep watching you guys explore new techniques and improve with every step.
Lots of love from Germany ;-)
The new hat looks great
I follow ca. 500 youtube channels. This is nr. 1. No contest ☝️🙂
The content continues 😎
Really enjoy your vids guys can't wait to see this place finished and actually stay in it gotta take my hat off to you guys you really test your skills in your videos
Deeply impressed guys 😊
A simple hatch, framed deer/cow hide controlled from the inside either by counterweight pully or a long stick tied to it, low weight and easy to put in place, you can see it in scandinavia and north amerca on everything from houses to tents...
I think its probably already done, but interesting idea
@@skeetsmcgrew3282 yes probably done by now... but im amazed by the fact that they even tried that clumsy and heavy Reed construction, there's so much historical reconstruction where this very thing is obviously clear...
-I'm not hating, I love what they're doing, and I really enjoy the series, they just seem to overdo things at times. ♡♡♡
@@coconutfleetsleeper5717 part of the issue with that idea is also that they are essentially vegans. They only eat meat if its hunted sustainably, which would certainly include leather/hide
@@skeetsmcgrew3282yes, I thought Julius was the only one vegan? but I might be wrong. Ethnically obtained hides should not be a problem to find in the British Isles, isn't the overpopulation of deer a big threat to what ever remains of the forests?
-taking care of resources goes all ways, marrow bone, fatwood, bluebells and what ever:)
@@coconutfleetsleeper5717 Oh yeah you def might be right. But its both of their project so Id imagine theyd respect Julius' beliefs. Not sure how he feels about hunting as a whole, like if he would participate or buy something off a local hunter. In my experience, most places are pretty good about sustainable hunting, hell my state is considering pushing the start of deer season back because global warming is messing with their rut season. But maybe Julius disagrees with how its run
What a terrible shame, I am really glad that you found a solution 🙏
Like deployed 👍
I sure missed you guys, so glad you're back.
Yay ive waited and waited .. like better than a big bowl of choclate ice ream you two 😋 .
Absolute heroes ♥️
Na fair play to ya Bois! Yer some men!💪
It's just incredible what beauty, what atmosphere you were able to create. This is truly a meditative experience watching you. Grretings from Belarus tourist.
Another great video. Not too shabby.
Aw, sorry about your roof! I hope your new plan works!
Yeez, quality can't go higher!
yay
Good luck guys!!
You have come so far with this magnificent build - love it! And all your other survival videos :) Love from Latvia!
Can't wait for the 60 days challenge. So much work has been done into this! Good work! Looks genuine and awesome!
Hmmmm...would like to suggest that you make a workshop with a rooftop since you have lots more projects to craft.. perhaps a blacksmith forge too there..and a cooking area as you might have visitors coming there soon...tq
Great episode! That hoist was quite the odd job, hahaha!
Lekker dat jullie weer terugzijn, Julio!
Jij ook Daveyyy !
Man id love to do something like this when i have a patch of land in the future, sending good vibes from clare
OK, well boys... chaps... lads... you precocious forkers....
The level and the quality of your work is unsurpassed.
The only explanation for your preternatural skills must
be that you are of the Sidhe--- your knowledge exceeds
the bounds of your (apparent) ages, and so most nearly
too of this very age in which we dwell.
I did think frame up first then thatch when it’s in place but you guys know best!
WE should have had some longer ladersss:/
beautiful!!!!
60 days? That's wild.
Your friend was right in saying You guys are a good pair, ye have such great chemisty and skills, the patience of saints and i love the banter between ye cousins , the hiberno-english is perfectly shplendid to this cork womans ears. Your accent Julious is starting to pick up a Galway twang🥰
Great episode again, its all going Smooth, roof is looking great👌
That roof lookinn grear, Not in this episode anyway;)
I love it
Really nice work.
Brilliant effort from everyone, best wishes to you all, Smooth :)
Love it 👍🏻
This is so cool
I realy love this project... May the "FORCE" be with you...
Can't wait for the next update and roof finale, good job!
That is just wonderful. I'm so looking forward to the 60 days! All the best!
Now that you're back on (semi)regularly, the extra time you are spending refining production & editing is very apparent. Don't get too "slick" though: it's the raw, spontaneous stuff that's part of your gezellighied (ja, ik heb gewoond in Twente for a while). P.S: I always get a chuckle when I see you guys walking through lush, green ferns and the caption comes up as "Januari" when I'm getting to my cabin in the woods pulling a toboggan in snowshoes1+ metre of snow and minus 30 degrees. If you ever want a different winter adventure like you have done in other snowy places, you're always invited to Canada!
Your channel never disappoints love what you guys are doing
Not sure how adding a hint of Dutch makes you sound more Irish, but okay doke😉
I love your videos, keep up the good work
I wonder if part of the role for the roof cap was to help regulate how well smoke escaped. Maybe you could adjust the cap a bit to increase or decrease the smoke level inside.
Geweldig om te zien hoe jullie bezig zijn. Proost heren
Great work as always guys! That cap looked like a mission to get up there, a pity it all fell apart.
Looking forward to the next one.
Cheers.
Hey buddys,,your fire is smoking inside because you have a bigger inlet of air than the exit,,you need to close your door,,even in a modern day house,,a fireplace or a stove will draft back if the door get open before the internal heat can drive the convection,,your hut need to warm inside to create a good convection out,, put a skin or a wooden door, and forget the roof
Perhaps the cap at the top would be woven from soaked reeds, young or split perhaps. Or if an underbark in the region is usable for weaving.
عمل رائع البيت ممتاز انا احب متل هذه البيوت
Seems awfully warm for January. Here in New York, the ground would be frozen. Everything would be grey and dead. Upstate, it would be 2 feet of snow...
this is really cool! would have been really impressive to do all this with Iron age/medieval tools.
I love how okey doke got a subtitle
Mystery lovely ladies voices…the plot thickens
You don't need to use metal rings for the cooper style bucket. I've seen them bound together with twisted bark in museums
Hello there, I love the house built and all your adventures. I cannot find the video where you fixed the draft to the fireplace!!! Cheers
and it needs a corridor and corridor roof, a mini version of the same construction the building is at the entrance !
Say what?;)
Dont worry about it 😅 love your vids wish you da best👍👍👍
The new puppy has the patience , but still he cannot train you to throw the stick .
Did you ever consider building a crane out of long wood stakes and rope?It was an old traditional thing to use.
I really enjoyed the logaplitting and reed harvest. Will you do it again next year?
Also good to see the critical work done in full concentration. Just gopro and standing cam is totally fine. Maybe frist person gives an even better perspective.
Likely would have been easier just to build the cap in place instead of building it on the ground then trying to drag it up.
Also most of those early buildings were known to be pretty smoky till proper fireplaces and chimneys were a thing.
You coulda just made a frame covered with an oiled hide, no? Wouldn’t last as long, but would have been easy to make and replace. Could even make it adjustable with a couple long poles on the inside.
👍
I'd love to see a colab with Fandabidozi in Roundhouse.
Haha, Im trying but he doesnt want to prioritise, maybe spam his channel;P
@@SmoothGefixt I just might do so. LOL
Are you guys posting the 60 day living in may or is that when yall filming it
A little bit of both;)

I just wonder, everybody makes great construction and when finish, he wonders how it will just jump up itselfs :D Same did I a few years ago. but only just 2 times :D
Ohooh, bit of wind..
This construction is part of the reason Smurfs live in mushrooms!
