have to say .. with the thatch roof on , that roundhouse is a really beautiful building
Almost done! It's been an honor and a privilege to follow the ups and downs during the built of your masterpiece.
I'd love to meet the people that inspired and taught the lads. I imagine they must have an amazing family.
It is a wonderful melding of history in action, and modern day reality. The organization of skill set, hard labor, and the “joys” of hot work with biting flies, and outdoor cooking gives a great sense of satisfaction. It is coming along beautifully! I wonder if you will have a celebratory meal, dance, or get-together when it’s all finished? Thanks for sharing your journey, and making me hungry with your lovely looking meal. Best wishes!
Oh my goodness!!! I’ve been waiting to see this episode for what feels like (iron)ages!!! Hahah fantastic video production as per usual and beautiful craftsmanship! Keep up the amazing work boys! Looking forward to more content from this channel!
Thanks soo much for the kind words!
Thanks Marika! And thanks to the scallop-makers!
That stew looked amazing. I've got a big chunk of venison on the freezer that needs attention...
Man! You should have a bigger party when that roof is finished.
Very good job! And a very lot of work.
When this is done can you guys make a reality series just living in the roundhouse iron-age style. I would pay to see that.
Definitly my plan, the preperation and things will take some time though, likely will do it in the spring
@@SmoothGefixt So happy to hear this. It's been a journey watching this come to life. Really want to see it in use. It's amazing.
If you look up Lindybeige's videos "Interviews with John Rosetti, Iron Age Man" You can hear about a whole tv series in the 70s where they did just that with like 12 people for a year and a half
That is becoming a masterpiece!
Just amazing. Great work, all of you. 10 years of enjoyment knowing every scallop, every reed, and the satisfaction. Well done; and Done Well! Thank you for letting us share in your adventure. m
Always looking forward to these videos. I get to watch this one on my lunch break
same same ;)
I come from an Irish family, so I can say with surety that you gotta keep an eye on venison soaked in wine, chilling in the stream. Those schemers can smell it from a mile away ,😀
I gotta say I’m more than a little surprised at how many reeds those roofs need. Heck of a job.
These have to be my favourite videos on RUclips 👌👍🌲
So been looking forward to this! Wife’s out with her mates, just me and the dog, a few joints and a couple of cheeky beers. (It’s legal in B.C.) My how Friday nights have changed. Let the thatching commence.
Haha, enjoy!
You guys are amazing ! Exceptional work and y’all took us back hundreds of years . Simply fascinating , thank you so much!
Dude this channel still is so underrated
We've been watching y'all's progress since last winter. The results so far are stunning, really well done!
OHHHHH! i actually see the process with the fast motion video! awesome thats a wonderful technique for roofing!
the timelapses were so good in this episode 👌 very satisfying
So natural 😍😍
OOH, it's getting close to the finish! So exciting!
It is almost done! I am looking forward to that. Keep going boys, great project!
Proud of you lads...SMOOTH 🌿🍄
Sure breaks my heart to know that all your heartfelt efforts are for only maybe ten years??.. Ive heard of these lasting several hundred years!!you fellows are awesome!!😊👍👍
The main structire could last for hundreds of years, but just the thatch has to be maintained and partly replaced every so often 10-20 years
This roundhouse is going to last for the next thousand years. Quite the thought that people in the far future are going to look at it like we look at the old ruins today. Really an amazing build, I can't wait until the roof is finally finished.
That's one sexy thatched roof!
Dudes.. Said it before and saying it again: Airbnb (oid). My girl would love this.
Guys, I like the idea of taking game according to ethical & legal hunting principles much better than purchasing meat at a market. My family is working toward practicing that principle.
my first time watching your channel and i want to thank you .
watching you work in that forest , makes me think of how our ancient ancestors existed in balance with the forests that covered this island . i would enjoy meeting you and photographing you at work if that is possible , i am at home and at peace when in a forest .
thank you for your content .
You'll find us at Slieve Aughty Centre, Loughrea;)
I'm always happy to see that you've posted a new video! Now I'm looking forward to the next one.
Wow guys that roof looks amazing

Looks better every episode. Can't wait to see the final product of all y'alls hard work
What else to say than: Impressive! Who would have expected you guys a few years ago, building such an awesome masterpiece. What a development. Hats off!
You guys have been on an icredible journey.i have followed you from the start waiting patiently(hurry up and finish)each week or with each new video to see the progress of the roundhouse.even though its not complete it really does look fantastic. You guys are brilliant!!
Outstanding!
Yusss. I love thatching so much
Wow ,Now its becoming awesome. Waiting for the finish... Love from India
SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH gefixed jongeee!!!
Julius, I'm so thrilled that you're learning to focus more on local sustainability rather than preaching full veganism as a one-size-fits-all solution. Which is not to say that veganism is bad, just that you have to take a holistic approach to your local conditions, and I appreciate that you're doing the work and staying informed. 🙂
I know it's not traditional, but to protect all that work, I'd be spraying Siloxain, (not sure I spelled that right) we used it to protect our chimneys when I was a chimney mason. Water just flows off, an it lasts about 10 years before needing to be reapplied. Probably get skin cancer but I use it to water proof most of my gear. It's ment for masonry an concrete, but works well with other materials.
looks very good nearly finished just needs a interior designer : )
love seeing progress when you know how much work went on to gather all the building materials and to make some of the tools .Julius is literally a scallops making machine 19:33 , legend
❤️🇮🇪☘️ Cant wait to watch😊
It's amazing. Great job guys! I'm looking forward to seeing more.
The Roundhouse and your filming are things of great beauty! In admiration of your stamina and perseverence! Good to see you get some decent grub in you for once😆🖒. Wincing everytime you knock scallops in by hand, palms must be well bruised 🤔. Looking forward to next week. Thanks guys👌
This round house looks sooo nice, great job!
This is so amazing, such a joy just watching it ...
Getting better and better😍👌

Wow, again.
Great to see the many (and happy) helpers, who work for and with you on this epic project. Thanks to all of you. MVP goes to Marika, the lady of reed!
Wow the roof looks so beautifully soothing. I love the fact, that you already use the house as protection for the building materials.
It’s looking like a beautiful work of Art. Meticulous careful construction. You guys have truly accomplished something worthwhile! 👏

You boys have done a superb job on the roof, I'm so proud of you guys, it looks like it will withstand. The stew looks like a professional made it. I know it tasted wonderful. Bye for now. Lol
Jeez ye boys eat well now eh? I have to say that the red wine in the stew ruined the whole Iron age thing for me! lol. Great job, enjoyed every minute, Thanks!

Beautiful work on the roof and the venison made my mouth water, aside from the fennel, it gets used far too much here in Spain.
Beautiful lines!,from the stonework to the thatch ,the roundhouse is stunning.Random question,is a Dutchoven called a Dutchoven in the Netherlands?
We call them dutch oven too in the Netherlands. I don't know what the relation to the dutch is. In it's just a cast iron pan. In dutch: gietijzeren pan.
I'm wondering how long this would have taken back in the day. Because whoever was making it would have needed somewhere to live pretty quickly. I wonder if they just got a whole village together to build it in a few weeks, kind of like an old fashioned barn raising or something. The main thing that brought this to mind is when you covered it with a tarp, which of course they wouldn't have had back when.
Thanks for the input. Also something I have been wondering about. With some historician input we might have an answer sometime;)
The roundhouse is looking gorgeous guys! I'm very curious as to what you guys will do for lighting and ventilation.
Well done if it is ready you both csn work in Reet roof building
Take care yours
Frank
16:10 nice cartwheel/handstand. Im from Aus and I wanna help out so bad
Did he say smoke hole? I thought the point of thatch was the smoke would seep through the thatch not go out a hole. And that this was a fire protection method also.
be kind about nature
Always wanted to have a go at this kinda thing, but not too sure on the land and if it's legal etc
Guys would it be an idea to use a green tarp permanently fitted to the roof in the winter months to prolong the life of the roof?
