Thanks for the review James! Looking at your results, would you agree that you should either not be playing the 5-iron from either set or use a hybrid instead of the 4-irons? My logic is the following: you seem to have a nice 30 yard gaps between the PW and the 8-iron as well as the 8-iron and the 6-iron - so assuming the 9-iron and 7-iron behave accordingly both sets should produce 15-yard average gaps on full shots. But on both sets you only have a 16-yard gap between the 6-iron and the 4-iron - thus there is no useful distance space for the 5-iron. Depending on how the 5-iron performs (assuming it's around 14-yards past the 6-iron) you could add that to the set and then move to a hybrid, or you could skip the 5-iron altogether. What do you think?
I am a P760 fan. It is exactly what I am looking for. I am very torn between them and Ping I210. To me. They both feel similar and go the distance I expect. The new ping finish tho. Very nice. Both of those are good products.
nice idea James, but shouldn´t it be more like golf? So like hitting to a certain distance and finding out that it is easier to hit a 9 iron P790 than a 7 iron JPX 990 tour. al the discussion about spin and stopping power should no longer be an issue either
Can you do an on course review of the p790s? I’m looking to buy a set and want to know how they preform hitting into the greens. I usually put some decent spin with my irons I have now, but they are as strong of lofted
Jack Miller good thats my number one concern with looking at new irons. I don’t know how but I’ve finally started my irons better and putting spin on them. I somehow managed to zip back a 3 iron on the green a few rounds ago lol
You nailed it for me..... The 790 look incredible and then the club that I would be using looks like the gimmicky one whereas typically your GI irons are the ones that look silly.
I have a split set of the two. I change to the 790 at 5 iron have them them till 4. Obviously weakening the 790s and I love it. Now that I’m a bit better though I do wish I was 760s throughout the bag tho 😬
I’d like to see a review of the P760 vs the P730. Especially for guys looking for the thin top lines and smaller club heads. Basically those are the two lines of irons I’m looking at but just aren’t sure which ones would work distance wise for me
Thanks James! Yes exactly, many (all?) of the major brands are building really good clubs nowadays. Really comes down to what one is most comfortable with personally.
Able to do some occasional stuff aimed at your scratch or low single digit handicap range? Would like to see reviews comparing your bleeding edge blades with something with a little more forgiveness when playing at that level
Hi James, how about a high handicap test/review of the Taylormade P790 irons? My understanding is that they can be suited to many different levels of golfer
I'm sorry but i just don;t understand the rationale of "I'm a better player so i have to have a club with a "soft" face". Is it just perception or is there data to back up the need for a "soft" face. Help me here James. To me, it shouldn't matter what the club is, looks, or feels like, if you like it, regardless of standard. If i was scratch and i played a P790 what is the big deal versus a scratch player playing Ping Blueprints? (Oh, and I am NOT a scratch player).
Enjoyed watching this head to head and I was expecting to see a bigger margin on distance between the two, I would like to see you put the P790 irons up against the new Titleist irons I would definitely consider using them and I’m possibly going to try them next week
Great review and comparison James! You know, I very nearly went with the P760s over the AP2s this year. The tie breaker for me ended up being shot dispersal. I definitely hit the AP2s a little straighter. When I tested the P760s I found them to be a bit on the longer side than I expected for their lofts too. Not in a bad way, though. Spin was largely still in the acceptable range for me so maybe it was just the Speed Foam? In any case, I’m curious about how TaylorMade will update the P760s in the coming year. They are already such nice clubs that any further refinement could finally put them in my bag over the 718 AP2s I’m currently gaming....course, I still need to test the T100s!
I thought the grooves were there for when I have to hit a left handed shot from up against a tree, to get a bit of spin on my shot. 150 yard P/W. Where's Big Al Etches. Al, James has put a challenge out.
Couple of months ago I tried both the then current P790s and P760s. I really like the look of the P760s and was hoping that they would suit me, - I was then an M1 player so definitely not anti-TM. IMO in the good player category the P760s are by some distance the most disappointing clubs I have tried, the feel was both very hard and harsh - JPX919 Tour (or Forged), i210s, Apex Pro, MP18-MMC are all far nicer feeling clubs. The biggest surprise for me was how nice the P790s felt, although I agree the top line is a little thicker than I would like (but positively svelte compared to the new T300s)
have these clubs longgevity or do they lose there playability in a year or 2 where as mizuno clubs go on for a few years i have a felling these are gimmicks that only last a year and you have to replace thm after spending lots of money your thoughts please james
When you talk about 5000 spin on an 8 iron being worrying, but surely that’s relevant to distance? You’d need a 5/6 blades iron to make that distance and you’d be happy with 5k spin?
James Robinson Golf idk I just saw your carry and total and looked like they had no problems with control. And big gap on the bottom of the bag is true but just don’t leave your shots at a distance where you don’t have a shot for 🤟
Tell ya what I’m thinking... when are you going to test the beautiful new mizuno clubs. If it’s not tomorrow, then you’re making me wait too long. Crack on James...
Players want to see a smaller head? That's a more traditional look versus a modern take, IMO. I wouldn't care about the smaller head and thinner top line. It's about results. I'll take a forged club that has consistent distances and spins, regardless of what it looks like. Ego is where trouble comes in because of that "I'm a better player so I have to play pure blades" mentality. again, just my opinion, which isn't worth much.
Bill Kendell ,I agree mate ,I'm no scratch player ,far from it but yeah I agree on the forged irons with traditional lofts ,I would rather have consistant distances and feel on good strikes than speed foam ,kryptonite injection ,plutonium face inserts etc .If people like hitting a 28.5 degree iron shovel with a number 7 on the bottom of the sole ,fair enough ,each to their own .
I looked at both P760 and P790, chose the P760 due to weaker lofts and thinner lines. Handicap 8.
I went with p760 due to looks, more traditional lofts, and feel. They're amazing I just bought a second set I love them so much
@@tazhillleader Can i ask what a solid price is for a 760 is today?? Or what you got your second set for? thanks!
If I were to play TM irons, I would do a split set 4-6 in P790, 7-8 P760, 730 9-PW.

Which way did you go?
On course testing would be nice for a change.....get out there mate n hit off a fairway
I always get the impression you love the P790’s.

bigmac7920 mine are great! Launch high and stop
Jack Miller good thats my number one concern with looking at new irons. I don’t know how but I’ve finally started my irons better and putting spin on them. I somehow managed to zip back a 3 iron on the green a few rounds ago lol
I play off 5.1 and I love my p790s
Jack Miller I think I’m around a 12 really don’t keep track but I usually score mid 80s
You nailed it for me..... The 790 look incredible and then the club that I would be using looks like the gimmicky one whereas typically your GI irons are the ones that look silly.

Bryce Larson, me tooo, but one slight difference. P-5 in 760’s and 4-5 in 790’s, I play the 790-5-iron one degree and the 4 irons 2.5 degrees.
James, you are swinging it well. Position at top much better and more stable than a few months ago.
Would love to get a set of the p790...distance and forgiveness? Altho the price tag is a bit much
I looked at the 790 the other day and was surprised at how compact they were. I was expecting them to be a bit bigger.
I’d like to see a review of the P760 vs the P730. Especially for guys looking for the thin top lines and smaller club heads. Basically those are the two lines of irons I’m looking at but just aren’t sure which ones would work distance wise for me

P760 looks like a good club much prefer them
over the P790

Great test James. Looking to get fitted for the new P790, love the look of them S first forgivenesses.
James, both 4 irons have speed slots??? No slots on P760 irons. Keep up the good work.
The phrase you were looking for was “super model sandwich.” 😂
Thanks for all you do James. ✌🏼🇺🇸
James can you test the new ptx pro black irons and compare them to the P790's
Love my p 790 was using ping g irons with the same lofts as the p790 I hit the 790 about 8yrs more per club
James! Mizuno MP 20s are coming out! Hope you get to do a vid on them.
Still love my P770 and I'm play of 21hcp. Don't understand what is suppose to be a players iron needing speed foam.
Never been a fan of TM, but they are turning out some decent products lately. However the mega strong lofts does bug me somewhat
Go watch Rick Shield’ review on the TM wedges he got them to rust instantly 😂 Poor James
Shiels* idiot

P790 looks abit straighter James, that must be the decider in this test?
Oh James, so humble you are! Give yourself some credit! You're a handsome guy!
Review Iv been looking for👍🏻
I just don't understand that TM cut out the P750 ... it's not too much say that P750 is the best in TM history
안지환 you’re not the only person I’ve heard this from. Fwiw, pga pros seem to agree. Plenty played 750’s, don’t know any that play 760’s.
Two supermodels in the side and me in the middle
*Added to liked videos 🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
James, I’m in between the JPX 919 and the Titleist AP3. Thoughts? I’m a 14 handicap.
919 as still current mate for me
I use the rocketbladez tour irons so it would have to be the p760 for me
Can u review the old tom wedges
Which felt softer to you?
Just ordered split set
Any news of a new P760?
When you talk about 5000 spin on an 8 iron being worrying, but surely that’s relevant to distance? You’d need a 5/6 blades iron to make that distance and you’d be happy with 5k spin?
Yes but I would want much more control with an 8 than a 5. And also leaves. A giant gap at the bottom end of the bag
James Robinson Golf idk I just saw your carry and total and looked like they had no problems with control. And big gap on the bottom of the bag is true but just don’t leave your shots at a distance where you don’t have a shot for 🤟
Great review james still loving my Rsi 1s which i got fitted from new 4 years ago do like the new 790s though😍🏌️♂️
Two super models on the sides isnt a bad place to be 😎
I think the p760 fly ed under the radar....like the p750-p770
the 790s look damn nice !
Looks like you set your wrists immediately in the backswing...
Just order a combo of these!
Tell ya what I’m thinking... when are you going to test the beautiful new mizuno clubs. If it’s not tomorrow, then you’re making me wait too long. Crack on James...

Nice review.
P-790 less loft, made for players who do not know what forward shaft lean is. P-760 made for pro's who lean the shaft & deloft irons at impact.
Love the music 🎶
Stop the corny chit chat and hit the ball. Ull get a lot more thumbs up.
Why the awful music?
Neither! 😂
Ray M nothing feels like a mizuno
