    i love how the lift charge is more powerful than the shell itself

      It’s because how the energy is released in the tube it only has one way to go which is up and has to push out a 50 gram mortar out causing more pressure thus bigger sound and when the shell explodes up its a 360 energy release with really thin walls to break through

    If you rolled up the casings with glue in between each layer the report would be louder because of more pressure of the glue hardening the paper

    I'm making them the same way you can make cake inserts. Get a 1.5 inch to 1.75 inch peice of dowel or preferably a metal one made for this purpose with a 3mm size hole for visco or one quarter inch if you use time fuse. And gets your tubes and put a 1.5 to 2 inch peice of fuse assuming its visco fuse and use bentonite clay mixed and some granulated preferably and press with a press or hand ram the clay around the fuse with the dowel that has the same size hole in the center as the fuse. Fill and depending on the contents........ hot glue in the paper end plug or even use plaster.. and done super fast to make. Pretty much how the Chinese do it... but I do prefer the Italian style shells myself but for shells only 3 inches and up. Great video thanks.

    Very interesting inside-out case-forming technique, thanks. I bet yours come out round more consistently even than my traditionally rolled technique. This is the second time I've gotten what I consider to be a useful tip on case rolling from a RUclips, the previous being that of the Skin Man. You obviously ARE an expert, your disclaimers and aw-shucks "...what I believe they call..." expressions to the contrary. I might try the toasted Rice Krispies too; probably better than my dampened popped popcorn bits or sawdust.
    The only thing I'd fault would be the glass jars. The metal lids will prevent static build-up, but in the event of accidental ignition (even if the contents don't explode but just get the glass hot), who wants glass fragments?

    I would make the stars smaller and add a Gramm or 2 of whistle mix to get a stronger break.

    That is awesome man. I really enjoyed watching and listening to you explain all this. The show at the end was the cherry on top. I have one question if I may. The time fuse between the lift and the shell, how did you make it exactly. Did you just fill a tiny tube with BP and pack it inside? If so, was it air float, or did you use the same powder in your time fuse as your lift and break? I have a pyro bug in me as well lol. Im an old fart now, but I still enjoy making my own BP and shooting my old cannon as well as my BP guns. Ive made little paper salutes as well as small BP rockets with my sons. I enjoy the process of doing this stuff, very fun and relaxing when its a passion. Again, thanks for any advice you have for an old fart with the same interests.

    Woodglue would have made the shells alot louder by pasting several layers on it over the spiking. U got this far, im sure u probably know that, but thought id share it anyway. Overall not to bad man.
    I use Chinese time fuse cause i aint had much luck with spolettes, either to long or not long enough. Next time i make some if i remember ill try to tag you to the video. Fireworkers are a dyin breed brother, we gotta stick together.

    Add magnesium powder or flash to your star mix for faster burn rate or some rocket file from a model rocket engine

    • @Pyrokartoffel
      @Pyrokartoffel 2 года назад +1

      When you add magnesium powder it doesnt burn faster, it makes White Sparks. You need to add more potassium Nitrate or other oxidizers to increase the burnrate

  • @556andy
    @556andy 2 года назад

    Im very curious on how the time fuse lasts 4 seconds when black powder burns much fast than that. Is it diluted with some kind of chemical for slower burn? And another thing did you ever had a failed shell where it falls back down without exploding

    • @budddove6480
      @budddove6480 Год назад +1

      Its because the powder is packed tightly into a small tube.. Both ends of the tube are open, causing the BP to burn slower, and at a somewhat controlled rate. The ends being open means no pressure build, which equals steady burn. The packed powder burns slower and more controlled than a pile of loose powder due to surface area available to ignite. Its basically a tiny black powder rocket that burns from lift to burst, hope that helps.
      Also, very cool videos on YT about making timed BP fuse/spolettes.

    Question I made cia black powder ran it threw a kitchen type strainer it's fast powder but It berly comes out of the tube shell slides down the tube nicely is this because of lift pouch needs to be thicker why won't they go up lol can't find much info on google....

    • @LionSilverVideos
      @LionSilverVideos  4 года назад +2

      I'm not sure it i understand the question. if you are not getting good lift, it's most likely due to the home made BP. Don't worry mine is not great either. When using home made BP of lower quality you will want to make sure the shells have a snug fit in the tube. Just snug enough to not slide down under gravity, but not to tight where you have to ram it in with force.

    get kraft paper and wood glue or just pva glue it makes rock hard shells or other things

    • @goodmaro
      @goodmaro 3 года назад +2

      OK, but the Maltese use newspaper! They're cheapskates but make excellent cylindric shells in Malta, making up for the weak paper with much more spiking. His printer paper might have the best springiness for his inside-out case forming technique. Rolling kraft paper with glue, I sometimes get bubbles between layers. With paste the layers smooth into each other better, but take longer to dry and don't dry as hard for a given thickness as with PVA glue.
