The guy is a monster. There’s nobody better at his style than him. When rock players want you to show them how to do something you are known. Not by mainstream listers but if you play you KNOW who this guy is.

Tommy segues to Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" by Elton John and "Walk, Don't Run" by Johnny Smith in the middle of the song.

Tommy has reached the point of complete, total mastery of the instrument. In martial arts this is called “transcending technique”. Notice how completely relaxed he is. Most people trying this kind of hyper-technical playing will be so intense and focused you can see it in their body and face. Tommy is so freaking relaxed you think he could do this while reading the newspaper. Also watch his thumb during the transition to Saturday Night at 6:30. He moves the chord shape up and down two frets without moving his thumb. He’s said in interviews that his thumb is permanently dislocated as a result and that the only reason he’s able to do this is because of the dislocation.

That’s crazy about his thumb! He’s definitely hit point of transcending technique, everything looks so effortless!

I guess you didn't notice, but he threw to other song snippets in the middle of this performance. "Walk Don't Run" by the Ventures and "Saturday's Alright for Fighting" by Elton John.

By the age of six, he was a working professional musician. Recognizing the musical talents of Emmanuel and his older brother, Phil, their father created a family band, sold their home, and took his family on the road. With the family living in two station wagons, much of Emmanuel's childhood was spent touring 🇦🇺

@@setonhillstudiosFor more information about the history of the Emmanuel family, please check out “Tommy Emmanuel - This Is Your Life”. It’s not too long but there’s some footage of when he and his siblings were very young. He’s also a percussionist (which you may have already guessed). His late brother Phil was amazing on electric guitar. Sadly, he died of an asthma attack. Tommy also featured in the documentary “John Farnham: Finding The Voice”. He was an early member of John’s band which also included Brett Garsed and the late Stuart Fraser, both fantastic guitarists. They were with John for many years and Brett has made a YT homage to Stuart. They and the rest of the band feature in solos along with John Farnham singing “That’s What Love Will Make You Do”. It’s one of the best concert performances you’ll ever see! All the best from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺!

I enjoyed your reaction ver much. I love Tommy and have had the privilege and pleasure of seeing him 3 times so far, the last time just a few months ago. He is a top tier premier acoustic guitar player on the planet and is a stellar human being to boot! I love how much pleasure he gets from making his music and I will always be here for it. Thanks💯🎸🎶

I was fortunate to see Tommy play live many moons ago, Once at the Kuranda Amphitheatre in the Kuranda rainforest with his back-up artist being the King of the Dig David Hudson. Second time was at the Cairns Civic Centre. Kuranda is up in the mountains behind Cairns and had quite a hippy population back then. It will come no surprise that there was a strange sweet-smelling odour in the air that night. You should also check out a Duet with his Brother Phil, another great guitarist. I agree with you when you say Tommy always looks like he's enjoying himself because he is. Thanks for the reaction, I do have a couple of Tommy's Cds and also one David's callled Digitralia.
