But in Goldrush, he more often than not played drums, as his older brother Phil 'The Wiz' was the # 1 pick, if you can believe it. Playing together, they were untouchable, saw them blow Roy Buchanan off the stage one night. Phil passed away a few years ago. Tommy is likely the best steel-string acoustic guitar player on Earth, but do check out his electric stuff too, where he casually kills it.
This is what I love about Tommy. Doesn't matter if you're a total noob or an expert, the moment he starts playing all judgement goes out the window and you just watch with a big smile on your face. True entertainer that exists entirely outside the snobbery that comes with celebrity.

Check out 'Tommy Emmanuel CAAS 2009'. A whole catalog of his styles. Roy Clark and Glen Campbell were good but there are different levels! Tommy is the most rounded and just the best I have ever seen!

To make every note ring out clearly on an acoustic, and at the velocity that which he plays it is other-worldly!..If you get a chance, watch him play "Somewhere, Over The Rainbow" for the late Les Paul. Paul's favorite song..One of the greatest things I've ever seen!..Absolutely beautiful!

I had the pleasure of sitting with Tommy & Phil at the Greenfields Tavern in 1981 Last time i talked to Phil was 1998 in Mossman FNQ P.S. Phil was better than Tommy LOL. He plays the bass line with his thumbs and the rhythm & melody with his fingers. You should watch his tune called Initiation that will blow your mind the noises he can make with an Axe
